[Machine] Muawiya left Sham wanting to go to Mecca, so he stayed in a place between Mecca and Medina called "Al-Abwaa". He looked into an ordinary well and a force hit him, causing his foot to become swollen. Despite this, he continued to walk until he reached Mecca. The gatekeeper came to him and said, "O Amir al-Mu'minin, people are waiting at the door. What should I tell them?" Muawiya replied, "Let them wait for me." Then he called for a turban, wrapped it around his head, and slashed his face with it. After that, he went out and praised and thanked Allah. Then he said, "As for what comes next, if I am well, then the righteous before me have been well before me. And there is no secret that I hope to be among them. But if it is a disease from me, then I cannot count my blessings. And if I find any of your own specific sins, then I have been at war against your common people. And I have no desire to ask Allah for more than what He has given me. May Allah have mercy on a man who prays for my well-being." The voices raised in supplication, and he wept. Marwan asked him, "What makes you cry, O Amir al-Mu'minin?" He replied, "I remembered what I have left behind. My age has become long and my bones have become weak, and tears have filled my eyes. I have been thrown into the best of situations, and what is apparent from me is due to my own desire towards Yazid."  

خَرَجَ مُعَاوِيَةُ مِنَ الشَّامِ يُرِيدُ مَكَّةَ فَنَزَلَ مَنْزِلًا بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْأَبْوَاءِ فَاطَّلَعَ فِي بِئْرٍ عَادِيَّةٍ فَأَصَابَتْهُ لَقْوَةٌ فَأَجَدَّ السَّيْرَ حَتَّى قَدِمَ مَكَّةَ فَأَتَاهُ الْحَاجِبُ فَقَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ النَّاسُ بِالْبَابِ مَا أَفْقِدُ وَجْهًا قَالَ فَأَبْسِطْ لِي إِذًا قَالَ ثُمَّ دَعَا بِعِمَامَةٍ فَلَفَّ بِهَا رَأْسَهُ وَشَقَّ وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنْ أُعَافَ فَقَدْ عُوفِيَ الصَّالِحُونَ قَبْلِي وَمَا أُسِرُّ أَنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنْهُمْ وَإِنْ كَانَ مَرِضَ مِنِّي عُضْوٌ فَمَا أُحْصِي صَحِيحِي وَإِنْ كَانَ وَجِدَ عَلِيَّ بَعْضُ خَاصَّتِكُمْ فَقَدْ كُنْتُ حَرْبًا عَلَى عَامَّتِكُمْ وَمَا لِي أَنْ أَتَمَنَّى عَلَى اللهِ أَكْثَرَ مِمَّا أَعْطَانِي فَرَحِمَ اللهُ رَجُلًا دَعَا لِي بِالْعَافِيَةِ» فَارْتَجَّتِ الْأَصْوَاتُ بِالدُّعَاءِ فَاسْتَبْكَى فَقَالَ لَهُ مَرْوَانُ مَا يُبْكِيكَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ؟ قَالَ رَاجَعْتُ مَا كُنْتُ عَنْهُ عَزُوفًا كَبِرَتْ سِنِّي وَرَقَّ عَظْمِي وَكَثُرَ الدُّمُوعُ فِي عَيْنِي وَرُمِيتُ فِي أَحْسَنِي وَمَا يَبْدُو مِنِّي وَلَوْلَا هَوًى مِنِّي فِي يَزِيدَ أَبْصَرْتُ قَصْدِي  

[Machine] I was saying in a church in Arijah, which at that time was a mosque where prayers were held. Awf ibn Malik woke up from his sleep and found a lion walking towards him. He quickly grabbed his weapon and the lion said to him, "I have been sent to you with a message to deliver." I asked, "Who sent you?" The lion replied, "Allah sent me to inform you that Muawiyah al-Rahhal is one of the people of Paradise." I asked, "Who is Muawiyah?" He said, "He is the son of Abu Sufyan."  

كُنْتُ قَائِلًا فِي كَنِيسَةٍ بِأَرِيحَا وَهِيَ يَوْمَئِذٍ مَسْجِدٌ يُصَلَّى فِيهِ قَالَ فَانْتَبَهَ عَوْفُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ مِنْ نَوْمَتِهِ وَإِذَا مَعَهُ فِي الْبَيْتِ أَسَدٌ يَمْشِي إِلَيْهِ فَقَامَ فَزِعًا إِلَى سِلَاحِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْأَسَدُ مَهْ إِنَّمَا أُرْسِلْتُ إِلَيْكَ بِرِسَالَةٍ لِتُبِلِّغَهَا قُلْتُ مَنْ أَرْسَلَكَ؟ قَالَ أَرْسَلَنِي إِلَيْكَ اللهُ لِأَنْ تُعْلِمَ مُعَاوِيَةَ الرَّحَّالَ أَنَّهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ قُلْتُ مَنْ مُعَاوِيَةُ؟ قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ  

[Machine] I accompanied Mu'awiya ibn Abi Sufyan in a campaign in the land of Rome. He had a hole in his saddle, so he called out, "O slaves of Allah, O Muslim men!" Mu'awiya was the first to respond, and then the rest of the people responded. They said, "It is enough for the prince," but he said, "No, I have been informed that he (Gabriel) is the first to respond to those in need, so I wanted to be the second."  

غَزَوْتُ مَعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ أَرْضَ الرُّومِ فَوَقَعَ ثَلْبٌ فِي رَحْلِهِ فَنَادَى يَا عِبَادَ اللهِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ أَجَابَ مُعَاوِيَةَ فَنَزَلَ وَنَزَلَ النَّاسُ فَقَالُوا نَكْفِي الْأَمِيرَ فَقَالَ «§أَلَا إِنَّهُ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّهُ أَوَّلُ مَنْ يُغِيثُ جِبْرِيلُ فَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ الثَّانِي»  

[Machine] "Ali said: 'May my and Muawiyah's killers be killed in Paradise.'"  

عَلِيٌّ «قَتْلَايَ وَقَتْلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ»  

[Machine] I heard Mujalid ibn Sa'id saying, "May Allah have mercy on Mu'awiya, how strong was his love for the Arabs."  

سَمِعْتُ مُجَالِدَ بْنَ سَعِيدٍ يَقُولُ «رَحِمَ اللهُ مُعَاوِيَةَ مَا كَانَ أَشَدَّ حُبِّهِ لِلْعَرَبِ»  

[Machine] Abu Sufyan, leave your brother.  

أَبُو سُفْيَانَ دَعْ أَخَاكَ  

[Machine] I heard Al-A'mash saying, "If you see Muawiyah, you would say, 'This is the Mahdi.'"  

سَمِعْتُ الْأَعْمَشَ يَقُولُ لَوْ رَأَيْتُمْ مُعَاوِيَةَ لَقُلْتُمْ هَذَا الْمَهْدِيُّ  

[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ by the shearing of an Arab man near Al-Marwah, he says, "When he forbids us from pleasure."  

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِمِشْقَصِ أَعْرَابِيٍّ عِنْدَ الْمَرْوَةِ يَقُولُ «حِينَ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُتْعَةِ»  

[Machine] "From the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , during his Umrah, on Al-Marwah with a razor."  

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي عُمْرَتِهِ عَلَى الْمَرْوَةِ بِمِشْقَصٍ»  

[Machine] "From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Al-Marwah, with a hairpin in his hand during his pilgrimage."  

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ الْمَرْوَةِ بِمِشْقَصٍ فِي حَجَّتِهِ»  

[Machine] "From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Al-Marwa with a certain comb."  

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ الْمَرْوَةِ بِمِشْقَصٍ»  

"I cut the hair of the Messenger of Allah at Al-Marwah with the edge of a Bedouin arrow. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2988)  

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْمَرْوَةِ بِمِشْقَصِ أَعْرَابِيٍّ»  

[Machine] "He informed him that he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and trimmed some of his hair with scissors. We said to Ibn Abbas, 'We only heard this from Muawiya.' Ibn Abbas said, 'Muawiya was never accused of anything against the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .'"  

أَخْبَرَهُ «أَنَّهُ رَأَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ» قَصَّرَ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ بِمِشْقَصٍ قُلْنَا لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَا بَلَغَنَا هَذَا إِلَّا عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ مَا كَانَ مُعَاوِيَةُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مُتَّهَمًا  

[Machine] Muawiyah said to me, "Have you seen anyone who enjoyed the gifts of Hajj without having any of his hair affected?" I replied, "No." He said, "Indeed, I bear witness that I took a few strands of hair from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during his circumambulation at Marwah, after he finished, with a pair of scissors from his cloak."  

لِي مُعَاوِيَةُ «أَرَأَيْتَ مَنْ تَمَتَّعَ وَسَاقَ الْهَدْيَ هَلْ يَمَسُّ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ شَيْئًا؟» فَقُلْتُ لَا قَالَ «فَإِنِّي أَشْهَدُ لَأَخَذْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ عِنْدَ الْمَرْوَةِ حِينَ فَرَغَ مِنْ طَوَافِهِ بِمِشْقَصٍ مِنْ كِنَانَتِهِ»  

[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ, it is narrated that he prohibited wearing gold.  

عنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ «أَنَّهُ نَهَى عَنْ لِبْسِ الذَّهَبِ»  

[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ, "He forbade wearing jewelry and gold."  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ «أَنَّهُ نَهَى عَنْ لِبْسِ الْحُلِيِّ وَالذَّهَبِ»  

What makes you sit here? They said: We are sitting here in order to remember Allah. He said: I adjure you by Allah (to tell me whether you are sitting here for this very purpose)? They said: By Allah, we are sitting here for this very purpose. Thereupon, he said: I have not demanded you to take an oath, because of any allegation against you and none of my rank in the eye of Messenger of Allah ﷺ is the narrator of so few ahadith as I am. The fact is that Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the circle of his Companions and said: What makes you sit? They said: We are sitting here in order to remember Allah and to praise Him for He guided us to the path of Islam and He conferred favours upon us. Thereupon he adjured by Allah and asked if that only was the purpose of their sitting there. They said: By Allah, we are not sitting here but for this very purpose, whereupon he (the Messenger) said: I am not asking you to take an oath because of any allegation against you but for the fact that Gabriel came to me and he informed me that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, was talking to the angels about your magnificence. عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ؓ قَالَ خَرَجَ مُعَاوِيَةُ عَلَى حَلْقَةٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ؟ قَالُوا جَلَسْنَا نَذْكُرُ اللهَ قَالَ آللَّهِ مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ إِلَّا ذَلِكَ؟ قَالُوا وَاللهِ مَا أَجْلَسَنَا إِلَّا ذَلِكَ قَالَ أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أَسْتَحْلِفْكُمْ تُهْمَةً لَكُمْ وَمَا كَانَ أَحَدٌ بِمَنْزِلَتِي مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَقَلَّ عَنْهُ حَدِيثًا مِنِّي وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ عَلَى حَلْقَةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ «مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ؟» قَالُوا جَلَسْنَا نَذْكُرُ اللهَ وَنَحْمَدُهُ عَلَى مَا هَدَانَا لِلْإِسْلَامِ وَمَنَّ عَلَيْنَا بِكَ قَالَ «آللَّهِ مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ إِلَّا ذَاكَ؟» قَالُوا آللَّهِ مَا أَجْلَسَنَا إِلَّا ذَلِكَ قَالَ «أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أَسْتَحْلِفْكُمْ تُهْمَةً لَكُمْ إِنَّهُ أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ اللهَ ﷻ يُبَاهِي بِكُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Do not investigate people, as you may cause corruption among them."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا تُفَتِّشُوا النَّاسَ فَتُفْسِدُوهُمْ»  

[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ passed away at the age of sixty-three, Abu Bakr passed away at the age of sixty-three, and Umar passed away at the age of sixty-three."  

«قُبِضَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ وَقُبِضَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ وَقُبِضَ عُمَرُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ passed away at the age of sixty-three.  

«قُبِضَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ»  

[Machine] I heard Muawiyah say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away at the age of sixty-three, Abu Bakr passed away at the age of sixty-three, and Umar passed away at the age of sixty-three."  

سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَقُولُ «مَاتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ وَمَاتَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ وَمَاتَ عُمَرُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ passed away at the age of sixty-three. Abu Bakr also passed away at the age of sixty-three. Umar also passed away at the age of sixty-three.  

قُبِضَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ وَقُبِضَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ قُبِضَ عُمَرُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah has placed the truth upon the tongue and in the heart of Umar."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ جَعَلَ الْحَقَّ عَلَى لِسَانِ عُمَرَ وَقَلْبِهِ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us on the day of Ashura and said, "This is a day that fasting is not obligatory upon you, and I am fasting. Whoever wishes to fast, let them fast, and whoever wishes to break their fast, let them do so."  

خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ فَقَالَ «هَذَا يَوْمٌ لَمْ يُكْتَبْ عَلَيْكُمْ صِيَامُهُ وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ فَمَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يَصُومَ فَلْيَصُمْ وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يُفْطِرَ فَلْيُفْطِرْ»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , say, "How excellent are the people of Azd and Ash'ariyyun." Mu'awiya said, "He did not say that. He only said, 'They are from me and I am from them.'"  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «نِعْمَ الْحَيُّ الْأَزْدُ وَالْأَشْعَرِيُّونَ» فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ لَيْسَ هَكَذَا قَالَ إِنَّمَا قَالَ «هُمْ مِنِّي وَإِلَيَّ»  

[Machine] Regarding Muawiya's words in the conversation that took place between him and Yazid during the allegiance, Muawiya said to me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If there are two caliphs on earth, kill one of them."  

لِمُعَاوِيَةَ فِي الْكَلَامِ الَّذِي جَرَى بَيْنَهُمَا فِي بَيْعَةِ يَزِيدَ وَأَنْتَ يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ أَخْبَرَتْنِي أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا كَانَ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَتَانِ فَاقْتُلُوا أَحَدَهُمَا»  

[Machine] If you come to Fustat, stand among the people and inform them of what I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Verily, the merchants are wicked." A man said, "O Messenger of Allah, did Allah not permit trade?" He replied, "Indeed, they lie and swear falsely, hence they commit sins."  

إِذَا أَتَيْتَ فُسْطَاطِي فَقُمْ فِي النَّاسِ فَأَخْبِرْهُمْ مَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ التُّجَّارَ الْفُجَّارُ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَمْ يُحِلَّ اللهُ الْبَيْعَ؟ فَقَالَ «إِنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ فَيَكْذِبُونَ وَيَحْلِفُونَ فَيَأْثَمُونَ»  

[Machine] About something that Muawiyah saw in the prayer, he said: "I prayed with him (Muhammad) the Friday prayer in the enclosure. When he finished, I stood in my place and prayed. When he entered (the enclosure), he sent for me and said, 'Do not repeat what you did when you pray the Friday prayer. Do not connect it with another prayer until you speak or leave. For the Prophet ﷺ commanded that.' Additionally, he added in his narration, 'Do not connect it with another prayer until you speak or leave.'"  

عَنْ شَيْءٍ رَآهُ مِنْهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ صَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ الْجُمُعَةَ فِي الْمَقْصُورَةِ فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قُمْتُ فِي مَقَامِي فَصَلَّيْتُ فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ «لَا تَعُدْ لِمَا فَعَلْتَ إِذَا صَلَّيْتَ الْجُمُعَةَ فَلَا تَصِلْهَا بِصَلَاةٍ حَتَّى تَتَكَلَّمَ أَوْ تَخْرُجَ فَإِنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَرَ بِذَلِكَ» زَادَ هَوْذَةُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ أَلَّا تُوصَلَ بِصَلَاةٍ حَتَّى تَتَكَلَّمَ أَوْ تَخْرُجَ  

[Machine] Mu'awiyah said, "Do not do it, for I know about the Prophet of Allah ﷺ."  

مُعَاوِيَةُ «فَلَا تَفْعَلْ فَإِنِّي أَعْلَمُ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ»  

[Machine] About the two prostrations performed after the Friday prayer in the mosque and the two prostrations performed after the Asr prayer, Muawiyah says, "I am aware of the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."  

عَنِ السَّجْدَتَيْنِ تُصَلَّيَانِ بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَالسَّجْدَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ» يَقُولُ مُعَاوِيَةُ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ بِصَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ  

[Machine] He heard Muawiyah giving a sermon in the city on the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , with a piece of hair in his hand. He said, "Where are your scholars, O people of the city? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbidding this and saying, 'Indeed, those before you were destroyed when their women took to adornment.'"  

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَخْطُبُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَفِي يَدِهِ قُصَّةٌ مِنْ شَعَرٍ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ؟ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ هَذِهِ وَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ حِينَ اتَّخَذَهَا نِسَاؤُهُمْ»  

[Machine] He heard Muawiyah giving a sermon saying, "Oh people of the city, where are your scholars? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'This is the day of Ashura and Allah has not made its fasting obligatory. But I am fasting so whoever likes to fast may do so, and whoever likes to break the fast may do so.'"  

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَخْطُبُ يَقُولُ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ؟ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «هَذَا يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ وَلَمْ يَفْرِضِ اللهُ صِيَامَهُ وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ فَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَصُومَ فَلْيَصُمْ وَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُفْطِرَ فَلْيُفْطِرْ»  

[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "Juhaynah is part of me and I am part of them. They get angry for my anger and are pleased with my pleasure. I get angry for their anger and am pleased with their pleasure. Whoever angers them has angered me, and whoever angers me has angered Allah." So Mu'awiyah said to him, "This hadith was only said about the Quraysh." Imran said, "I heard it from the Prophet ﷺ and you were dead at that time."  

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «جُهَيْنَةُ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُمْ غَضِبُوا لِغَضَبِي وَرَضُوا لِرِضَايَ أَغْضَبُ لِغَضَبِهِمْ وَأَرْضَى لِرِضَاهُمْ فَمَنْ أَغْضَبَهُمْ فَقَدْ أَغْضَبَنِي وَمَنْ أَغْضَبَنِي فَقَدْ أَغْضَبَ اللهَ» فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ إِنَّمَا قَالَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فِي قُرَيْشٍ فَقَالَ عِمْرَانُ أَنَا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَنْتَ يَوْمَئِذٍ مَيِّتٌ  

[Machine] We were sitting around Muawiyah's bed when he came out to us and said, "What were you talking about?" They replied, "We were discussing something from the stories of the Ansar." Muawiyah then said, "Shall I tell you a story I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" They said, "Yes, O Amir al-Mu'minin." He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever loves the Ansar, Allah will love him, and whoever dislikes the Ansar, Allah will dislike him.'"  

كُنَّا جُلُوسًا حَوْلَ سَرِيرِ مُعَاوِيَةَ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا فَقَالَ مَا كُنْتُمْ تَتَحَدَّثُونَ؟ قَالُوا كُنَّا فِي حَدِيثٍ مِنْ حَدِيثِ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ أَلَا أَزِيدُكُمْ حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ أَحَبَّ الْأَنْصَارَ أَحَبَّهُ اللهُ وَمَنْ أَبْغَضَ الْأَنْصَارَ أَبْغَضَهُ اللهُ»  

[Machine] I heard Muawiyah say that when the muadhin says "Allahu Akbar" (God is the greatest) two times, Muawiyah also says it two times. And when the muadhin says "Ashhadu allā ilāha illā-llāh" (I bear witness that there is no deity but God) two times, Muawiyah also says it two times. Then he turned towards me and said, "This is how I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say at the time of the call to prayer."  

سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ إِذَا كَبَّرَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ اثْنَتَيْنِ كَبَّرَ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَإِذَا شَهِدَ اثْنَتَيْنِ شَهِدَ اثْنَتَيْنِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ عِنْدَ الْأَذَانِ  

[Machine] The muezzin heard him say Allahu Akbar twice, and then he testified to what he testified to. Then he said, "This is how Muawiyah narrated to us that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, just as the muezzin said, when he says, 'I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,' he (the Prophet) said, 'And I bear witness.' Then he remained silent."  

سَمِعَ الْمُؤَذِّنَ كَبَّرَ كَبَّرَ وَتَشَهَّدَ بِمَا تَشَهَّدَ بِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ كَمَا قَالَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَإِذَا قَالَ «أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ» قَالَ «وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ» ثُمَّ سَكَتَ  

[Machine] I entered with Muawiya to Aisha, the mother of the believers. She said, "O Muawiya, you have killed a man and his companions and done what you have done. Did you not fear that I might hide a man for you who would kill you with Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr?" He said, "No, I am in a safe place. I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , say, 'Faith restrains killing. A believer does not kill.'" She said, "O mother of the believers, how am I in need of you and your messengers and your affairs?" He said, "Leave me and the stone until we meet Allah."  

دَخَلْتُ مَعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَقَالَتْ يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ قَتَلْتَ حَجَرًا وَأَصْحَابَهُ وَفَعَلْتَ الَّذِي فَعَلْتَ أَمَا خَشِيتَ أَنْ أُخَبِّئَ لَكَ رَجُلًا فَيَقْتُلَكَ بِمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ؟ قَالَ لَا إِنِّي فِي بَيْتٍ آمَنٍ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «الْإِيمَانُ قَيَّدَ الْفَتْكَ لَا يَفْتِكُ مُؤْمِنٌ» يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كَيْفَ أَنَا فِي حَاجَاتِكِ وَرُسُلِكِ وَأَمْرِكِ؟ قَالَتْ صَالِحٌ قَالَ فَدَعِينِي وَحَجَرًا حَتَّى نَلْتَقِيَ عِنْدَ اللهِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever is pleased that when he is seen by men he be imitated by them in standing up, then he should take his place in the fire".  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ سَرَّهُ إِذَا رَأَتْهُ الرِّجَالُ مُقْبِلًا أَنْ يَتَمَثَّلُوا لَهُ قِيَامًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ بَيْتًا فِي النَّارِ»  

[Machine] That the Prophet of Allah ﷺ forbade falsehood and falsehood is for a woman to extend her hair.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الزُّورِ وَالزُّورُ أَنْ تَصِلَ الْمَرْأَةُ شَعَرَهَا  

[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ forbade lying."  

«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الزُّورِ»  

[Machine] "O people, surely the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden you from falsehood, and he came with a black cloth and threw it among them. Then he said, 'This is what a woman wears on her head, and then it ferments upon it.'"  

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَاكُمْ عَنِ الزُّورِ فَجَاءَ بِخِرْقَةٍ سَوْدَاءَ فَأَلْقَاهَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ «هُوَ هَذَا تَجْعَلُهُ الْمَرْأَةُ فِي رَأْسِهَا ثُمَّ تَخْتَمِرُ عَلَيْهِ»  

[Machine] Muawiyah entered the city and stood on the pulpit. In his hand was a piece of hair. He said, "I never saw anyone do this before, because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called it falsehood."  

قَدِمَ مُعَاوِيَةُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَقَامَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَفِي يَدِهِ عِقْصَةٌ مِنْ شَعَرٍ فَقَالَ مَا كُنْتُ أَرَى أَحَدًا يَصْنَعُ هَذَا لِأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ سَمَّاهُ الزُّورَ  

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If Allah wants to do good for somebody, he makes him comprehend the Religion (i.e. Islam), and Allah is the Giver and I am Al-Qasim (i.e. the distributor), and this (Muslim) nation will remain victorious over their opponents, till Allah's Order comes and they will still be victorious." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3116)  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ»  

[Machine] I was sitting with Muawiya, and when the caller for prayer called, Muawiya said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah." Then the caller for prayer said, "I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." Muawiya said, "I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." Then the caller said, "Come to prayer." Muawiya said, "There is no power or strength except with Allah." Then the caller said, "Come to success." Muawiya said, "There is no power or strength except with Allah." Then the caller said, "Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest." Muawiya said, "Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest." Then the caller said, "There is no god but Allah." Muawiya said, "There is no god but Allah." Then Muawiya said, "This is how I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say."  

كُنْتُ جَالِسًا مَعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ فَلَمَّا أَذَّنَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَقَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلَاحِ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ «هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ»  

[Machine] That Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah said, "I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." Then he said, "Come to prayer." He said, "There is no power or might except with Allah." He said, "Come to success." He said, "There is no power or might except with Allah." He said, "Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest." Muawiyah said, "Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest." Then he said, "There is no god but Allah." He said, "There is no god but Allah." Then he said, "This is how I heard your Prophet ﷺ say."  

أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ «أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ» فَقَالَ حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ «لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ» قَالَ حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلَاحِ قَالَ «لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ» قَالَ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ «اللهُ أَكْبَرُ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ» فَقَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ فَقَالَ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ» ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُ نَبِيَّكُمْ ﷺ يَقُولُ  

[Machine] He heard Muawiyah on the Prophet's pulpit, and with him was a lock of hair. He said, "I found this among my family, and they claim that women add it to their hair. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'May Allah curse the one who adds hair and the one who has it added.'"  

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ قُصَّةُ شَعْرٍ فَقَالَ إِنِّي وَجَدْتُ هَذِهِ فِي أَهْلِي وَإِنَّهُمْ زَعَمُوا أَنَّ النِّسَاءَ يَزِدْنَهُ فِي شُعُورِهِنَّ وَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَعَنَ اللهُ الْوَاصِلَةَ وَالْمَوْصُولَةَ»  

[Machine] Regarding the prophet ﷺ, he said, "Marriage is a reward for its people."  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «الْعُمْرَى جَائِزَةٌ لِأَهْلِهَا»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Umrah is a reward."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «الْعُمْرَى جَائِزَةٌ»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Umrah is equal to inheritance."  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «الْعُمْرَى بِمَنْزِلَةِ الْمِيرَاثِ»  

[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "The people with the longest necks are the Muadhin (callers to prayer)."  

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «أَطْوَلُ النَّاسِ أَعْنَاقًا الْمُؤَذِّنُونَ»
