25. Chapter of Mīm (Male) (18/33)
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think of a man who meets a woman he does not know, and he does not do anything with her except talk?" So Allah revealed the verse, "Establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember." The Prophet ﷺ said to the man, "Perform ablution and then pray." Mu'adh said, "O Messenger of Allah, is this command specific to him or is it for all believers in general?" The Prophet ﷺ said three times, "No, it is for all believers in general."
[Machine] I was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when a man came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, a man has been afflicted by a woman whom it is not permissible for him to have relations with. He has not left anything that can afflict him from his wife except that it has afflicted him, except that he has not had intercourse with her." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Perform ablution well, then stand and pray." Then Allah revealed this verse {Establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember.} Mu'adh then asked, "Is this for him specifically, O Messenger of Allah, or for all Muslims in general?" He said, "For all Muslims in general."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed a prayer and lengthened its standing, bowing, and prostration. When he finished the prayer, we said, "O Messenger of Allah, you have prayed a prayer that you prolonged its standing, bowing, and prostration?" He said, "Indeed, it was a prayer that I offered out of desire and fear. And I asked my Lord three things, so He gave me two and withheld one. I asked Him not to subject my Ummah to an enemy other than themselves who would overpower them, so He gave it to me. And I asked Him not to destroy them with a calamity in a single year, so He gave it to me. And I asked Him not to make them fight amongst themselves, so He withheld it from me."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed a prayer one day in which he prolonged his standing, bowing, and prostration. When he finished, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, you have indeed prayed a prayer in which you prolonged your standing, bowing, and prostration." He replied, "Indeed, it was a prayer of desire and fear. I asked my Lord three things in it, and He granted me two and turned away one. I asked Him not to subject my Ummah to an enemy from among themselves who would overpower them, and He granted it to me. I asked Him not to inflict them with a year of famine that would cause their destruction due to hunger, and He granted it to me. I asked Him not to cause them to fight one another, so He prevented me from that twice."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "The thing I fear the most for my ummah (nation) is three: the slip-up of a knowledgeable person, the argumentation of a hypocrite using the Quran, and the worldly life being opened up to you."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "The virtue of the congregational prayer over the prayer of a man alone is twenty-five."
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet, ﷺ : Two men from the Children of Israel traced their ancestry during the time of Moses, ﷺ . One of them was a Muslim and the other was a polytheist. The polytheist claimed: "I am the son of so-and-so, son of so-and-so," going back nine generations. Then he said to his companion, "Trace your lineage; you do not have a mother." The Muslim replied, "I am the son of so-and-so and I disassociate myself from anything beyond that." Moses called the people together and said, "The matter between you has been decided. As for you (the polytheist), by tracing your ancestry to nine forefathers, you will be the cause of their destruction in Hell. As for you (the Muslim), by tracing your lineage to your two parents, you are an individual from the people of Islam."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Two men from the Children of Israel were attributed to each other, one being a Muslim and the other a disbeliever. The disbeliever said, 'You attribute yourself.' The Muslim replied, 'I am so-and-so, the son of so-and-so, and I disassociate myself from those above me.' Then, the Caller of Moses ﷺ announced, 'O you two who are attributed to each other, I have passed judgment between you. As for you, O disbeliever, you have been attributed to nine fathers, and you are the tenth among them in Hell. As for you, O Muslim, you have acknowledged two Muslim parents, so you are from the people of Islam and you have disassociated yourself from all others."
[Machine] Two men came to the Prophet ﷺ and there were two men with him. One of them became angry until he started rolling on the ground from anger. The Prophet ﷺ said, "I know a word that if he were to say it, his anger would go away." So, I approached him and said, "O Prophet of Allah, what is it, O Prophet?" And I wanted to know the word that would remove anger. I approached him and said, "O Prophet of Allah, what is it, O Prophet of Allah?" And I wanted to know if it had a special benefit for the believers in general. He said, "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the accursed Satan." So, I approached the man and said it to him, but he did not say it and his anger only increased.
[Machine] Two men argued in front of the Prophet ﷺ , and one of them became extremely angry. The Prophet ﷺ said, "I know a word that, if he says it, Allah will remove from him what he finds troublesome." The Prophet ﷺ was asked, "What is it?" He replied, "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the accursed devil."
[Machine] Two men came to the Prophet ﷺ and one of them became angry. He said, "I know a word that, if he were to say it, his anger would go away. I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan."
[Machine] Two men came to the Prophet ﷺ and one of them became extremely angry to the point that it seemed to me that his nose was about to become rubbed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, I know a word that if this angry person says it, Allah will remove his anger. I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan."

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ delayed the Fajr prayer for us until the sun almost rose, so he went out and led us in prayer. He shortened his prayer and then turned to us with his face and said, "Shall I inform you of what delayed me from you today in this prayer? I prayed in my night so Allah willed, then my eyes closed, and I saw my Lord in the most beautiful and perfect form. He said, 'O Muhammad,' so I said, 'Here I am, O my Lord.' He said, 'What do the highest assembly dispute about?' I said, 'I do not know, O my Lord.' Then He said, 'O Muhammad,' so I said, 'Here I am, O my Lord.' He said, 'What do the highest assembly dispute about?' I said, 'I do not know.' Then He placed His hand between my shoulders until I felt the coolness of His fingertips between my chest, and I knew everything and saw it clearly. Then He said, 'O Muhammad,' so I said, 'Here I am, O my Lord.' He said, 'What do the highest assembly dispute about?' I said, 'In acts of expiation.' He asked, 'And what are they?' I said, 'Walking to Friday prayers, performing ablution in unfavorable conditions, and ascending stairs.' He asked, 'And what is it?' I said, 'Feeding the hungry, speaking gently, praying at night while people are asleep.' He said, 'Ask.' I said, 'O Allah, I ask You for good deeds, abandoning evil deeds, loving the poor, and for You to forgive me and have mercy on me. And when You intend a trial among Your creation, deliver me to You untempted. And I ask for Your love and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds that will bring me closer to Your love.'
[Machine] I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the expedition of Tabuk, and I saw an opportunity, so I took advantage of it. I put my camel towards it until I had ridden it, and then I said, "O Messenger of Allah, teach me a deed that will enter me into Paradise." He said, "You have asked a great thing, but it is easy for one whom Allah makes it easy. Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish the obligatory prayers, give the obligatory charity, and fast the month of Ramadan. Then he proceeded, and I followed him."

Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish the obligatory prayers, pay the obligatory charity, and fast during Ramadan." Then he walked away, and I followed him.

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about an action that will enter me into Paradise and distance me from the Fire." He said, "You asked about something great, yet it is easy for those whom Allah has made it easy. Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish the obligatory prayers, pay the obligatory charity, and fast during Ramadan. And if you want, I will inform you about the gates of goodness." I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Fasting is a shield, charity erases sins, and a person's standing in prayer at the depths of the night seeking the face of Allah." Then he recited this verse, "Their sides forsake their beds," (Surah As-Sajdah, 32:16).
قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنْبِئْنِي بِعَمَلٍ يُدْخِلُنِي الْجَنَّةَ وَيُبَاعِدُنِي مِنَ النَّارِ فَقَالَ «سَأَلْتُ عَنْ عَظِيمٍ وَإِنَّهُ لَيَسِيرٌ عَلَى مَنْ يَسَّرَهُ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ تَعْبُدُ اللهَ وَلَا تُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا وَتُقِيمُ الصَّلَاةَ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ وَتُؤَدِّي الزَّكَاةَ الْمَفْرُوضَةَ وَتَصُومُ رَمَضَانَ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْبَأْتُكَ بِأَبْوَابِ الْخَيْرِ» قُلْتُ أَجَلْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُكَفِّرُ الْخَطِيئَةَ وَقِيَامُ الرَّجُلِ فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ يَبْتَغِي وَجْهَ اللهِ» قَالَ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {تَتَجَافَى جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ}

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, inform me of a deed that will admit me into Paradise." He said, "Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish the obligatory prayers, and pay the obligatory charity. Shall I guide you to the gates of goodness? Fasting is a shield, charity extinguishes sins, and the standing of a servant in the depths of the night." Then he recited the verse, "Their sides forsake their beds." I said, "Shall I inform you of that which encompasses all of them?" He gestured with his hand towards his tongue and said, "Restraint of the tongue." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, will we be held accountable for what we say?" He said, "May your mother be bereaved of you! Is there anything that throws people into the Hellfire upon their faces or on their noses except the harvests of their tongues?"

[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ to seek him, but I was told that he had left. So I decided not to ask anyone until I found him standing in prayer. When he finished his prayer, I said, "You have indeed prayed a long prayer." He replied, "I prayed out of desire and fear. I asked Allah three things and He gave me two of them and prevented me from one. I asked Him not to destroy my nation by drowning and He granted it to me. [Machine] Umar ibn Al-Khattab went to the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he found Muadh ibn Jabal crying near the grave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Umar asked, "What makes you cry, O Muadh?" He replied, "Something I heard from the owner of this grave." Umar asked, "And what is it?" Muadh said, "I heard him say, 'Even a little bit of showing off is a form of shirk (associating partners with Allah), and whoever opposes the awliya' (close friends) of Allah, Allah will wage war against him. Indeed, Allah loves the hidden ones among the pious believers, who, when absent, are not missed, and when present, are not recognized. Their hearts are like lamps of guidance, emerging from every dark and impure place.'"

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ missed him on Friday, so when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed, he came to Mu'adh and said to him, "O Mu'adh, why did I not see you?" He said, "O Messenger of Allah, a Jewish man owed me some money, so I went to him and he detained me from you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "O Mu'adh, shall I not teach you a supplication that you can invoke? If the debt were upon you as high as a mountain, Allah would fulfill it for you. And if it were a mountain in Yemen, Allah would also fulfill it for you. So say: 'O Allah, Master of the Kingdom, You give the kingdom to whom You will and You take the kingdom from whom You will, and You honor whom You will and You humiliate whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent. You cause the night to enter the day, and You cause the day to enter the night; and You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living. And You give provision to whom You will without account.' O Most Merciful of the world and the Hereafter, and O Most Merciful of them both, You give to whomever You will among them and withhold from whomever You will. Have mercy on me with a mercy that will suffice me from the mercy of anyone other than You."

[Machine] Amr ibn Bakr ibn Bakkār al-Qa'nabi narrated to me, Itha Mūjaši'a ibn 'Amr ibn Ḥassān al-Asadi narrated to me, Itha Layth ibn Sa'd narrated to me, from 'Āsim ibn 'Umar ibn Qatāda, from Maḥmūd ibn Labīd, from Mu'ādh ibn Jabal, that his son had died. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to him to console him regarding his son. He wrote to him, "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, to Mu'adh ibn Jabal: peace be upon you. Indeed, I praise to you Allah, whom there is no deity except Him. As for what follows, may Allah increase your reward, inspire you with patience, and grant us and you thankfulness. Verily, our souls, our wealth, and our families are from the blessed endowments of Allah, which He allows us to enjoy for a designated time and then takes back at an appointed time. And indeed, we ask Him for gratitude for what He has given us and patience when He tests us. And indeed, your son was from the blessed endowments of Allah, which He allowed you to enjoy with happiness and joy, and then He retrieved him from you with abundant reward, prayers, mercy, and guidance, if you seek reward in patience and do not let your grief diminish your reward, causing regret. And know that grief does not bring the dead back nor does it remove sorrow. And what has happened is as if you have bid farewell."

[Machine] While we were walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Where are the forerunners?" They said, "Some have passed and others have lagged behind." He said, "Where are those who belittle the remembrance of Allah? Whoever desires to dwell in the gardens of Paradise, let him abundantly remember Allah." And the wording is from the hadith of Abdullah bin Umar bin Aban.
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever prays these five prayers and fasts in the month of Ramadan, I do not know if he has mentioned his charity or not. It is the right of Allah to forgive him whether he emigrates or stays where his mother bore him." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, shouldn't I go out and announce it to the people?" He said, "No, leave the people to do their work, for paradise has one hundred degrees, and between each degree is like the distance between heaven and earth. The highest of its degrees is Al-Firdaus."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever bears witness that there is no god except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishes the prayer, gives the zakat, and fasts during Ramadan, it is the right of Allah to forgive him." Then he mentioned a similar hadith of Hisham ibn Sa'd.

[Machine] A man had a right over me, but I was afraid of him, so I sat and stayed indoors for two days without going out. Then I went out and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, "O Mu'adh, what kept you back?" I said, "A man had a right over me, and I was afraid of him until I felt shy and hated to meet him." He said, "Should I not teach you some words by which, if you say them, Allah will settle the matter for you even if it is equal to the mountains?" I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Say: 'O Allah, Controller of the kingship, You give the kingship to whomever You will, and You take the kingship from whomever You will. You make the night to enter into the day, and You make the day to enter into the night. You bring forth the living from the dead, and You bring forth the dead from the living. You give provision to whomever You will, without limit.'" Then he said, "Say: 'O Allah, make me independent of the need of others and create reliance upon You within me, and settle my debt for me.' Then he said, "Say: 'O Allah, cause me to die as one submitting to You, and make me count among Your righteous servants.'"
