1. Purification (7/28)
[Machine] We returned with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from Mecca to Medina and we reached a water source on the way. A group of people were hurrying to perform ablution while they were in a rush for Asr prayer. We reached them and their heels were white, untouched by water. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Complete your ablution properly. Woe to the heels from the fire, complete your ablution properly."
[Machine] I heard Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was passing by us and people were performing ablution from the purification (water source), saying, "Perform ablution thoroughly, for surely the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Woe to the heels (from entering) the Fire!' That is the wording of the hadith of Adam."
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ saw a man who did not wash his heels and said, "Woe to the heels from the Fire!"
[Machine] She says to her brother, "O Abdur Rahman, perform the ablution thoroughly, for I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Woe to the heels from the Fire on the Day of Resurrection."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Woe to the people of the burning wind (Iraq) from the Fire."
[Machine] "He heard the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saying, 'Woe unto the ankles and bellies of the feet from the fire.'"
'Umar b. Khattab said that a person performed ablution and left a small part equal to the space of a nail (unwashed). The Apostle of Allah ﷺ saw that and said: Go back and perform ablution well. He then went back (performed ablution well) and offered the prayer. (Using translation from Muslim 243)
A person came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He performed ablution and left a small part equal to the space of a nail upon his foot. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him : Go back and perform ablution well. Abu Dawud said: This tradition is not known through Jarir b. Hazim. It was transmitted only by Ibn Wahab. Another version adds the wording : “ Go back and perform the ablution well.” (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 173)
1.77 [Machine] Reading "and your feet" [Al-Ma'idah: 6] as a specification and that the matter refers to washing and that whoever reads it as a lowering, it is only for the purpose of proximity.
[Machine] The Quran returned to ablution and recited "And your feet up to the ankles" [Al-Ma'idah 6] with its pronunciation.
[Machine] The Quran returned to the topic of washing and recited "And wash your feet" [Al-Ma'idah: 6] with its accusative case.
[Machine] That he used to recite it "and your feet" [Al-Ma'idah 6] as an object.
[Machine] Regarding the passage, the translation into English is: "And [O believers], wash your feet." (Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:6)
[Machine] I have read from Nafi' ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Nu'aim al-Qari' this recitation more than once, and he mentioned in it "your heads and your legs" open.
[Machine] And about Al-Kisayi, all of these were attributed to him, and whoever diminished it, it is only for the sake of ease. Al-A'mash said: They used to recite it with a lowering tone and they used to wash it.
[Machine] He said, "Wash the feet up to the ankles as you have been commanded, and it has been narrated in the authentic hadith from Amr ibn Absa from the Prophet ﷺ about ablution, then he washes his feet up to the ankles as Allah the Almighty commanded him, and in that there is evidence that Allah the Almighty has commanded their washing."
[Machine] "Wash your faces, your hands, and your feet. Then wash their fronts, their backs, and the skin between their toes. For indeed, this is closer to Paradise." Anas said: "Allah spoke the truth and Al-Hajjaj (a person) lied." So wipe your heads and your feet up to the ankles." He said: "He recited it by heart." So Anas bin Malik did not deny the recitation; he denied the washing before it. For indeed, we have been narrated from Anas bin Malik from the Prophet ﷺ that it is obligatory to wash."
[Machine] Regarding the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , the hadith mentioned the description of the Prophet's ablution ﷺ . In it, she said, "Then he washed his feet." She said, "And your cousin (Ibn Abbas) came to me, meaning Ibn Abbas, so I informed him. He said, "I find in the book only two washes and two wipes. So if this is correct, it is possible that Ibn Abbas used to read it with "al-khafd" (grammar rule) and that it implies wiping. Then, when he found out that the Prophet ﷺ threatened leaving washing them or leaving something from them, he regarded it as obligatory to wash them and read it with "nasb" (grammar rule). And we have narrated from him that he read it with "nasb".
[Machine] Let me tell you how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution. He stated, "Then he carefully washed another room, and spread his legs over it, and the sandals were on his right and left feet, like that. Then he wiped the bottom of the two sandals."
[Machine] He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution. He put his hand into the vessel, rinsed and gargled once, then put his hand in and poured water on his face once, and poured water on his hands twice, then wiped his head once. Then he took a handful of water and spread it over his feet, while he was wearing shoes. Thus, he did so."
[Machine] "He said, then he took a container of water and sprinkled it on his left foot, then he said, 'This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performing ablution.' Al-Bukhari narrated it in Sahih from Muhammad ibn Abdul Rahman, from Abu Salamah al-Khuza'i, and he said in the hadith, 'He took a container of water and poured it on his right foot, meaning, until he washed it. Then he took another container and washed his left foot with it, then he said, 'This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performing ablution."'
[Machine] Then he entered a room, then he washed his right foot, then he entered another room, and he washed his left foot.
[Machine] said Ibn Abbas: "Shall I not show you the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" He then washed his hands three times, rinsed his mouth once, sniffed water into his nostrils once, washed his face once, washed his arms up to the elbows three times, wiped his head once, and washed his feet up to the ankles three times. Then he said, "This is the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." We have mentioned narrations before except that of Muhammad ibn Ja'far, and it is in what has passed.
[Machine] Then he took a handful and washed his right foot, and he took another handful and washed his left foot. These narrations have agreed that he washed both of them, and the narration of Ad-Darawardi suggests that he may have washed them in his sandals. Hisham Ibn Sa'd is not a very reliable narrator, so what contradicts the authentic sources cannot be accepted from him. How can he be the one countering the consensus when they are many, and he is just one? Ath-Thawri and Hisham Ibn Sa'd have also narrated from Zaid Ibn Aslam.
[Machine] "Can I tell you how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution? He called for a vessel containing water, mentioned his intention for ablution, then took a handful of water and poured it on his right foot while wearing a shoe. He then wiped his hand over the top and underneath his foot. He repeated the same actions with his left hand. This is the most authentic narration reported from the Prophet ﷺ regarding this matter according to the narration of the majority."
[Machine] Ibn Abbas said to me, "Shall I not show you the Prophet's ﷺ ablution?" So, he performed ablution once, then washed his feet while his sandals were still on. This indicates that he washed his feet with the sandals on. Allah knows best.
[Machine] It was narrated that the Prophet ﷺ wiped over the top of his feet, and it was also narrated that he wiped their backs. One of the two had a reliable chain of narration, and even if it was reported in isolation, it would still be considered sound. The one who went against it had a weaker chain of narration. As for the other narration, it is not considered reliable by the people of knowledge in hadith. If it were reported independently, it would not be considered as valid. The Shaykh stated that the first hadith referred to the narration of Ad-Daraqutni and others from Zaid, while the other narration refers to the hadith of Abd Al-Khair from Ali regarding wiping over the top of the feet. We have already explained that he meant it if the tops of the socks were clean, and it is mentioned in the chapter on wiping over the socks, with its reasons. It has also been narrated from Ali in another context that supports the first hadith.
ʿAli entered upon me in In house and called for water for wudoo’. I brought him a wooden vessel that held a mudd or thereabouts and put it in front of him. He had urinated and he said: O Ibn ‘Abbas, shall I not do wudoo’ for you as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did wudoo’? I said: Yes, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you. He said: A vessel was placed before him and he washed his hands, then he rinsed his mouth, and took water into his nose and blew it out. Then he took water in his hands and splashed it onto his face, putting his thumbs at the top of his ears. He did that three times. Then he took a handful of water in his right hand and poured it over his forehead, then he let it drip on his face. Then he washed his right hand up to the elbow three times, then his other hand likewise. Then he wiped his head and the backs of his ears. Then he scooped up water with two hands and poured it onto his feet, with sandals on his feet, then he turned his foot over (to wash it). then he did the same with the other foot, I said: With his sandals on? He said: With his sandals on. I said: With his sandals on? He said: With his sandals on. I said: With his sandals on? He said: With his sandals on. (Using translation from Aḥmad 625)

He mentioned the speech until he said, 'Then he poured with his right hand thrice upon his right foot, then washed it with his left hand. Then he poured with his right hand upon his left foot thrice, then washed it with his left hand.' Then he said, 'This is the purification of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .'"
[Machine] About the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he poured water into the container and then said, "Where is the one asking about the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" So he washed his hands three times, his face three times, his arms three times, and wiped his head until he felt the wetness. He washed his feet three times, three times. Then he said, "This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution." The narration of the jurist does not include his statement, "until he felt the wetness," but the rest of the narration is the same.
I saw ‘Ali ؓ doing wudooʿ. He washed his hands until they were clean, then he rinsed his mouth three times, then he rinsed his nose three times; he washed his face three times and his forearms three times; he wiped his head and washed his feet up to the ankles. And he took the leftover water and drank it whilst standing. Then he said: I wanted to show you how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did wudooʿ ‘Abd Khair narrated a hadeeth like that of Abu Hayyah from ʿAli, except that ’Abd Khair said: When he finished his wudoo’, he took some of the leftover water in his hand and drank it. (Using translation from Aḥmad 1046)
[Machine] He prayed the afternoon prayer, then sat in the needs of the people in the spaciousness of Kufa until the afternoon prayer arrived. Then a cup of water was brought to him, so he took a handful and wiped his face, hands, head, and feet with it. Then he stood up and drank the rest while he was standing. Then he said: "Indeed, some people dislike drinking while standing, and indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did as I have done, and he said: 'This is the Wudu' for the one who has not performed Wudu'."
[Machine] "So he took, drank, while standing, then performed a light ablution, wiped over his sandals, then said, 'This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do, as long as it was not new or different in meaning.'"
[Machine] He called for a cup of water, then performed a light ablution (wudu). Then, he wiped over his sandals and said, "This is how the Prophet ﷺ used to perform ablution for the one who is in a state of purity, as long as he did not nullify it." This indicates that what has been narrated about Ali wiping over his sandals is only in a voluntary ablution, not in an obligatory ablution due to a state that requires it or if he intended to wash his feet in the sandals or if he intended to wipe over his socks and sandals, as well.

the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid attention to the people and said three times; straighten your rows (in prayer); by Allah, you must straighten your rows, or Allah will certainly put your faces in contrary directions. He passed by wearing a red garment and I heard him saying, "O people, say there is no god but Allah, you will be successful." A man followed him and threw stones at him, causing his feet to bleed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned this incident.

[Machine] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as a newcomer from the Bani Al-Muntafiq tribe, and I said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about ablution." He said, "Perform the ablution thoroughly, separate between the fingers, and thoroughly inhale water during rinsing the nose unless you are fasting and the time for the forenoon prayer has passed. In a hadith narrated by Shu'ayb ibn Salamah, it is mentioned about the description of the Prophet's ﷺ ablution that he also separated between his toes."

1.80 [Machine] The Process of Pickling
[Machine] I heard my father, Abd al-Rahman al-Hubuli, say: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ massaging between his toes with his pinky finger.
[Machine] I left him until the people calmed down, and then I said to him, "O Abu Abdullah, I heard you giving a fatwa regarding removing the calluses from the fingers of the feet, claiming that it is not necessary for people, but it is a sunnah for us." He asked, "What is the evidence for that?" I said, "Al-Layth ibn Sa'd, Ibn Lahi'ah, and 'Amr ibn al-Harith narrated from Yazid ibn 'Amr al-Ma'afiri, who narrated from Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Hubuli, who narrated from al-Mustawrid ibn Shaddad al-Qurashi, who said, 'I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ massaging the space between his toes with his little finger. He said, 'This is a good hadith, and I have never heard of it before except at this hour.' Then, I heard him being asked about this later, and he ordered the removal of the calluses. My paternal uncle said, 'I have never seen anyone perform ablution without the line under the thumb on the foot surrounding them. For people touch their thumbs during ablution, and whoever overlooks that is safe.'"

1.81 [Machine] The Legislator's Recommendation regarding the Legislator
I saw Abu Huraira perform ablution. He washed his face and washed it well. He then washed his right hand including a portion of his arm. He then washed his left hand including a portion of his arm. He then wiped his head. He then washed his right foot including his shank, and then washed his left foot including shank, and then said: This is how I saw Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform his ablution. And (Abu Huraira) added that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had observed: You shall have your faces hands and feet bright on the Day of Resurrection because of your perfect ablution. He who can afford among you, let him increase the brightness of his forehead and that of hands and legs. (Using translation from Muslim 246a)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You are the radiant ones with shining foreheads on the Day of Resurrection from the traces of ablution. So whoever among you can increase his radiance and bring fragrance to it, let him do so."

[Machine] They performed ablution and prayed, then they rode the animal. When it was time for the Dhuhr prayer, they removed it with the best dye. They did not neglect their ablution, as the wives of the Prophet ﷺ used to apply perfume after the last night prayer.

We were entrusted with the task of tending the camels. On my turn when I came back in the evening after grazing them in the pastures, I found Messenger of Allah ﷺ stand and address the people. I heard these words of his: If any Muslim performs ablution well, then stands and prays two rak'ahs setting about them with his heart as well as his face, Paradise would be guaranteed to him. I said: What a fine thing is this! And a narrator who was before me said: The first was better than even this. When I cast a glance, I saw that it was 'Umar who said: I see that you have just come and observed: If anyone amongst you performs the ablution, and then completes the ablution well and then says: I testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the servant of Allah and His Messenger, the eight gates of Paradise would be opened for him and he may enter by whichever of them he wishes. (Using translation from Muslim 234a)

They said, 'Yes.' They said, 'Yes.' And in the narration of Abu Hudhaifa, he called for ablution by the seats, and this is how it is mentioned in the narrations of al-Thawri, narrated by Abdullah bin al-Walid al-Adani."
