1. Purification (6/28)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , wiped over his shoes and wiped the front of his head and placed his hand on the turban or wiped over the turban.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ performed ablution, washed his face, washed his forearms, wiped his head, wiped over his turban and his socks. This is also reported by Jarir ibn Hazim from Muhammad ibn Sirin, also narrated by Qatadah, Awf, Hisham, and others from Muhammad, from Amr ibn Wahb.
1.65 [Machine] The choice in head scanning
Can you show me how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution? ‘Abd Allah b. Zaid replied: Yes. He called for ablution water, poured it over his hands, and washed them; then he rinsed his mouth and snuffed up water in the nose three times; then he washed his face three times and washed his forearms up to elbow twice; then he wiped his head with both hands, moving them front and back of the head, beginning from his forehead, and moved them to the nape; then he pulled them back to the place from where he had started (wiping); then he washed his feet. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 118)
[Machine] So he wiped his head with both of his hands, starting from the front to the back, once, and mentioned the saying. Then he said: "Whoever wishes to see the purity of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ ablution, this is how it was."
I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution. When he reached the stage of wiping his head, he placed his palms on the front of the head. Then he moved them until he reached the nape. He then returned them to the place from where he had started. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 122)
Mu'awiyah performed ablution before the people, as he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution. When he reached the stage of wiping his head, he took a handful of water and poured it with his left hand over the middle of his head so much so that drops of water came down or almost came down. Then he wiped (his head) from its front to its back and from its back to its front. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 124)
1.66 [Machine] Investigating the Forehead in Head Scanning
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution, and he wiped the front of his head and the back of his head, and he wiped his temples and his ears, both their outer and inner parts, and their origins.
1.67 [Machine] Wiping the hair on the head
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution in her presence. He wiped the whole of his head from its upper to the lower part moving every side. He did not move the hair from their original position. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 128)
[Machine] And Abu Abdullah said, "This is the meaning of the hadith of Rabi'i, they both convey the same message and do not alter the course of the poetry."
1.68 [Machine] Passing water over the edge
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wipe his head by starting from the front with both hands until he reached his ears and the back of his head.
[Machine] He saw the Prophet ﷺ when he performed ablution, he wiped his head and his ears, and he also passed his hands over his socks. This narration was reported by Abdul Warith from Layth ibn Abi Sulaym who said: He wiped his head until he reached the qadhal, which is the beginning of the feet coverings, and he did not mention repetition.
[Machine] "It was if he would wipe his head, he would wipe his forehead along with his head. This is what has been halted and the authority in its chain is weak. And Allah knows best."
1.69 [Machine] Wiping on the turban with the head
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed behind, and I stayed with him. When he had relieved himself he said: 'Do you have any water with you?' I brought some water to him, and he washed his hands and face, then he started trying to uncover his arms, but the sleeves of his Jubbah were too tight, so he threw it over his shoulders and washed his arms and wiped over his forehead and 'Imamah, and over his Khuff." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 108)
1.70 [Machine] The benefits of head massaging even if it's generalized
I saw the Messenger ﷺ perform ablution. He had a Qutri turban. He inserted his hand beneath the turban and wiped over the forelock, and did not untie the turban. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 147)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution and poured water over his head or said, "he wiped the front of his head or the side of his head with water." This hadith has been narrated connectedly in the hadith of Mu'gheerah ibn Shu'bah.
[Machine] Narrated by Umm Alqamah Al-Mawlati Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, she said that whenever she performed ablution, she would put her hand underneath her cloak and wipe her entire head.
"I asked Jabir bin Abdullah about wiping over the Khuff. He said, 'O my nephew! It is the Sunnah.'" [He said:] "And I asked him about wiping over the lmamah. He said, '[Wipe1 the hair [with water].'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 102)
[Machine] He used to lift his turban when he wiped his head and wipe the front part of his head.
[Machine] He saw Safiyyah bint Abi Ubaid, the wife of Abdullah bin Umar, removing her veil and wiping her head with water, while Nafi' was still a child then.
[Machine] That his father used to remove the turban and wet his head with water, and in all of that, with the apparent meaning of the book, there is evidence indicating abbreviation that occurred from the narrator's perspective.
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping over his socks and khimar.
[Machine] The prophet ﷺ wiped over his socks and edges and the headscarf Humeidh is tall and Khalid is the son of Abdullah al-Wasiti and this is a good isnad and it is like the hadith of Mugheerah bin Shu'bah from the prophet ﷺ regarding wiping over the headscarf and the edges all together, and it is similar that this abbreviation also occurred in...
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out an expedition. They were affected by cold. When they returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he commanded them to wipe over turbans and stockings. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 146)
1.71 [Machine] Repetition in head wiping
[Machine] Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz reported to us in the book "Ikhtilaf al-Ahadith" by al-Shafi'i, may Allah exalt him. Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, I am al-Rabi ibn Sulayman, I am al-Shafi'i, I am Sufyan, from Hisham ibn Urwah, from his father, from Humran, the servant of Uthman ibn Affan, narrated that Uthman said that the Prophet ﷺ performed ablution three times each.
[Machine] "And he said: 'This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ make ablution, then he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: There is no man who performs ablution and does it well, then he prays, except that Allah forgives him for his sins between that prayer and the next, until he prays it.'"
[Machine] This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution, and then he said, "Whoever performs ablution without omitting any of my ablution, this is sufficient for him."
I entered upon Ibn Darah, the freed slave of ʿUthman, and he heard me rinsing my mouth. He said: O Muhammad! I said: Here I am. He said:Shall I not tell you about the wudoo’ of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? I saw ʿUthman when he was in al-Maqaʿid. He called for water for wudoo’, then he rinsed his mouth three times, rinsed his nose three times, washed his face three times, washed his arms three times, wiped his head three times and washed his feet, then he said: Whoever would like to see how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did wudoo’, this is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did wudooʿ. (Using translation from Aḥmad 436)
[Machine] And he said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing as you have seen me doing."
[Machine] He performed ablution, then washed his hands three times, each time pouring water over them, and rinsed his mouth three times. He washed his face three times and washed his hands up to the elbows three times. He wiped his head three times and washed his feet three times, pouring water over each foot. Then he said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution in this manner." This narration was also reported by 'Ata' ibn Abi Rabah from 'Uthman, who is a reliable narrator. It has been reported from other sources that 'Ali ibn Abi Talib also narrated this, but the narration that is confirmed is reported from him and others.
[Machine] This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do, and thus.
[Machine] He performed ablution, then washed his face three times, washed his hands three times, wiped his head three times, and washed his feet three times. He said, "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution." Ibn Wahb said, "He also wiped his head three times." Hajjaj narrated from Ibn Juraij that he wiped his head once.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ performed ablution, then washed his face three times, his hands twice, wiped his head twice, and washed his feet twice. Abu Abdur Rahman Al-Nasai narrated this in the book of Sunan from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyaynah. This is the way to wipe the head twice, but Malik, Wahayb, Sulaiman bin Bilal, Khalid Al-Wasiti, and others contradicted him and reported that Amr bin Yahya said he wiped his head once, but he said that he approached and turned his head.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to come to us and say, "Pour water for me to perform ablution." So I poured water for him in a container, which was a large basin. He took a handful or a little more of water and poured it on his hand. Then he washed his hands three times and said, "Pour water on my hands." So I poured water on his hands, and he washed his hands three times. Then he said, "Put water on your face." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am looking at you." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution, and while I was watching him, he washed his face three times, rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nose, and blew it out once. Then he washed his right hand three times and his left hand three times. After that, he wiped his head twice, starting from the back of his head, then the front, then again the back, and finally the front. Then he wiped his ears, both the outer and inner parts. After that, he washed his right foot three times and his left foot three times. It was narrated by someone other than Bashr, who did not mention what he said. And Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated from Ishaq ibn Yusuf al-Azraq, who narrated from Abu Al-Ala, who narrated from Qatadah, who narrated from Anas, that he used to wipe his head three times, taking fresh water for each one.
[Machine] He said, so he took water and wiped his head and ears, then he washed his chest and back once, then he washed his feet. Then he said, "Where are the questioners about ablution? This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution."
"The Prophet wiped his head and his ears: the outside and the inside of them." ($ahih) (Using translation from Tirmidhī 36)
[Machine] Anas performed ablution and we were with him. Then he started wiping the inside and outside of his ears, and he noticed the intensity of our gaze towards him. So he said, "Ibn Mas'ud used to instruct us to do this."
[Machine] The son of the mother of Abdullah used to order us to do that.
1.72 [Machine] Inserting the two fingers into the earholes
He wiped his ears inside and outside. Hisham adds: He inserted his fingers in the ear-holes. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 123)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ performed ablution and then inserted his fingers into his ears, as reported by Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad Al-Faqih, who narrated from Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Bakr, who narrated from Abu Dawud, who narrated from Ibrahim ibn Sa'id, who narrated from Wakii', who narrated from Al-Hasan ibn Salih, who narrated from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn 'Aqil, who mentioned it in this way and said, "He inserted his fingers into the openings of his ears."
1.73 [Machine] Cleaning the ears with fresh water
[Machine] "He saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performing ablution, and he took water for his ears separately from the water he took for his head. This is a valid chain of narration, and it is also narrated from Abdul Aziz ibn Imran ibn Miqlass and Harmalah ibn Yahya, from Ibn Wahb, Hadith 309. Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj also narrated it in Sahih from Harun ibn Ma'roof and Harun ibn Saeed al-Aili and Abu Tahir, from Ibn Wahb with a valid chain of narration. He saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performing ablution and mentioned his ablution. He said, 'He wiped his head with water other than the leftover water in his hands, but he did not mention the ears.' Abu Ali al-Rudhbary informed us, Abu Bakr ibn Dasa narrated to me, Abu Dawood narrated to me, and Ahmad ibn Amr ibn al-Sarh, meaning Abu Tahir, narrated to me from Ibn Wahb, from Amr ibn al-Harith, and he mentioned it. This narration is more authentic than the one before it."
[Machine] That Abdullah ibn Umar used to dip his fingers in water and then wipe his ears with them.
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who said, "Indeed, the ears are part of the head." This was narrated with weak chains of transmission, and we have mentioned them in the discussions.
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution, then he washed his face three times, and his hands three times, and wiped his head. He said, "The ears are from the head." It is narrated in this Hadith that there is disagreement among the narrators regarding whether it is from both sides of the face. One view is weaker because of some of the narrators, and the other view is that doubt is cast on its authenticity. Abu Abdullah Al-Hafith informed us, that Abu Al-Abbas Muhammad bin Ya'qub informed us, that Abbas Ad-Duri said, "I heard Yahya bin Ma'in saying, 'Sinan bin Rabee'ah reported from Hammad bin Zaid, and he is not strong.'" Abu Abdullah Ar-Rahman As-Salami informed us, that Abu Saeed Al-Khallal informed us, that Abu Al-Qasim Al-Baghawi informed us, that Mahmoud bin Ghaylan informed us, that Al-Nadr bin Shumayl informed us, that Ibn Awn was mentioned to him, and he said, "The people criticized him." Then the tongues of the people started slandering him. And with this chain of narrators, Mahmoud bin Ghaylan informed us, that Shu'bah said, "Shahr bin Hawshab accompanied a man from the people of Sham, and he stole his clothing." Abu Abdullah Al-Hafith informed us, that I am Abu Al-Abbas Muhammad bin Ya'qub, Shahr bin Hawshab sold his religion for clothing. So who will trust the reciters after you, O Shahr?" Abu Bakr Ahmed bin Muhammad Al-Faqih informed us, that Ali bin Umar Al-Hafith informed us, that Da'lj bin Ahmad said, "I asked Musa bin Harun about this Hadith, and he said, 'There is nothing in it from Shahr bin Hawshab, and the Hadith regarding its authenticity is doubtful.'" Al-Bayhaqi said, "And there is doubt regarding the authenticity of the Hadith."

[Machine] He described the Prophet's ﷺ ablution, saying that when he performed ablution, he would wipe his ears with water. Abu Umamah said, "The ears are part of the head." Sulaiman ibn Harb said, "The ears are part of the head. This statement is from Abu Umamah. Whoever says otherwise has changed or altered a word that Sulaiman said, in other words, made a mistake."
[Machine] Abu Umamah narrated that the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was mentioned, and it was said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would wipe the backs of his hands." He also said, "He would wipe his ears from the sides of his head." Sulaiman bin Harb said, "Abu Umamah used to narrate this." Qutaybah said, "Hammad said, 'I do not know if this is from the statement of the Prophet ﷺ or from Abu Umamah,' meaning the narration of the two ears." Qutaybah also said, "Sinan bin Rabeeah mentioned this in my book of Mawaqeen, which is in the narration of Abu Sulaiman Al-Khattabi, from Ibn Dasa Al-Mawaqeen." Abu Sulaiman explained it as the edge of the eye that is next to the nose and it is the exit of tears. And what was narrated from his wiping of his head and ears in some of the previous narrations, the general description of how it is done is present in it.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution and then took some water and wiped his head with it. He said, "I wiped the insides of my ears with the middle fingers of my hands and the thumbs from behind my ears." Our companions said, "It is as if he were isolating two fingers from each hand and when he finished wiping his head, he wiped his ears with them." It has been narrated in this hadith that he wiped the insides of his ears with his index fingers and contrary to that, he wiped the inner and outer parts of his ears with his thumbs. Abu Abdullah al-Haafiz informed us, Abu al-Walid al-Faqih narrated from Al-Hassan ibn Sufyan, who narrated from Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah, who narrated from Ibn Ajlan and he mentioned it in his chain.
1.74 [Machine] Washing the feet
[Machine] Ibn Abbas said, "Shall I not show you the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" He then washed his hands three times, rinsed his mouth three times, sniffed water into his nostrils once, washed his face once, washed his arms up to the elbows three times, wiped his head once, and washed his feet up to the ankles three times. Then he said, "This is the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." This is an authentic narration.
1.75 [Machine] Repetition in Washing the Feet
[Machine] That Uthman bin Affan one day called for ablution. So he performed ablution, washed his hands three times, rinsed his mouth and nose three times, washed his face three times, washed his right hand up to the elbow three times, and washed his left hand in the same manner. Then he wiped his head and washed his right foot up to the ankles three times, and washed his left foot in the same manner. Then he said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution similar to my ablution, and then he said, 'Whoever performs ablution similar to my ablution and then stands and prays two units without allowing himself to become distracted, his previous sins will be forgiven.'"
I came to ʿAli ؓ and he had prayed. He called for water for wudoo’. We said: What is he going to do with water when he has just prayed? He can only want to teach us something. A large vessel and a small vessel were brought to him. He lifted the small vessel and poured water over his hand and washed it three times. Then he dipped his hand in the vessel and rinsed his mouth and nose three times, and he did that from the same handful of water that he had taken. Then he washed his face three times, his right arm three times and his left arm three times. Then he put his hand in the water and wiped his head once. Then he washed his right foot three times and his left foot three times. Then he said: Whoever would like to learn the wudoo’ of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, this is it.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell behind from us during a journey we were on, and he caught up to us when we were tired from performing the Asr prayer and still in the process of performing ablution. We were wiping our feet and he called out in a loud voice, "Woe to those who trail their heels in the Fire!"
