1. Purification
[Machine] Abu Huraira used to follow the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to take care of his ablution and needs. One day, he caught up with the Prophet and asked, "Who is this?" Abu Huraira replied, "I am Abu Huraira". The Prophet said, "Give me some stones so I can clean myself, but do not bring me bones or dung". So, I brought him stones in my garment and placed them next to him. When he finished, he got up and I followed him. I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what about the bones and dung?" He replied, "A delegation of two tribes came to me and asked for provisions. I supplicated to Allah for them that they should not pass by any bones or dung without finding food on them". This was reported to us by Abu Hazim al-Abdawi al-Hafiz, Muhammad bin al-Hasan bin Ismail al-Muqri, Abu al-Abbas Muhammad bin Hayyan al-Mazini from Basrah, who narrated from Abdullah bin Abdul Wahhab al-Hajabi, who narrated from Amr bin Yahya, from his grandfather Sa'id bin Amr, from Abu Huraira. Abu Huraira said, "I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ carrying his water tools, and I caught up with him when he wanted to relieve himself. So, I reminded him of it indirectly".
[Machine] He heard Abdullah say, "The Prophet ﷺ went to relieve himself, and he ordered me to bring him three stones." He said, "So I found two stones and searched for the third but couldn't find it. So I took a piece of dung and brought it to the Prophet ﷺ . He took the two stones and threw the dung away, saying, 'This is impure.'"
[Machine] I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for his need, and he said: "Bring me something to perform Istinja with, and do not obstruct me or go back." And this narration, if it is authentic, strengthens the narration of Abu Ishaq from Abdul Rahman ibn Al-Aswad, except that Laith ibn Abi Sulaim is weak.
[Machine] I asked Alqamah, "Was Ibn Masood with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Night of the Jinn?" Alqamah said, "I asked Ibn Masood and said, 'Did anyone of you witness the Night of the Jinn with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' He said, 'No, but we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a certain night, and we lost him. So we searched for him in the valleys and mountains, and we said, 'He was taken away or killed.' So we spent the night fearing that some people had captured him. When morning came, he appeared to us from the direction of Hira and said, 'We lost you and searched for you but did not find you, so I spent the night with some people.' He said, 'A caller from among the jinn came to me and I went with him, and I recited the Quran to them.' He then took us to see their tracks and the marks of their fires, and they asked him for provisions. He said, 'Every bone that mentions the name of Allah upon it will be enough for you as meat, and every dung will be enough for your animals.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do not relieve yourselves with those two things, for they are the food of your brothers.'"
A deputation of the jinn came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Muhammad, forbid your community to cleans themselves with a bone or dung or charcoal, for in them Allah has provided sustenance for us. So the Prophet ﷺ forbade them to do so. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 39)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited using a bone, dung, or animal excrement for istinja. Ali ibn Rabah is reported to have heard it but there is weakness in the chain of narration, and Allah knows best. In this matter, there is also a narration from Abu Uthman ibn Sanaa al-Khuzai and Abdul Rahman ibn Rafi al-Tanukhi, both narrating from Ibn Masood, but neither of them mention the use of animal excrement.
[Machine] "He heard Jabir bin Abdullah saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from using bones or dung for rubbing or cleaning ourselves."
Shayban al-Qatbani reported that Maslamah ibn Mukhallad made Ruwayfi' ibn Thabit the governor of the lower parts (of Egypt). He added: We travelled with him from Kum Sharik to Alqamah or from Alqamah to Kum Sharik (the narrator doubts) for Alqam. Ruwayfi' said: Any one of us would borrow a camel during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ from the other, on condition that he would give him half the booty, and the other half he would retain himself. Further, one of us received an arrowhead and a feather, and the other an arrow-shaft as a share from the booty. He then reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You may live for a long time after I am gone, Ruwayfi', so, tell people that if anyone ties his beard or wears round his neck a string to ward off the evil eye, or cleanses himself with animal dung or bone, Muhammad has nothing to do with him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 36)
