[Machine] Narrated Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiped over the two socks. Abu 'Abdullah al-Hafiz narrated to us, Abu al-Hasan Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Abdus ibn Salamah al-Anzi narrated to me, `Uthman ibn Sa'id al-Darimi narrated to me, Ahmad ibn Salih and Harun ibn Ma'ruf that Abdullah ibn Wahb narrated to them from 'Amr. He mentioned his like with its chain, and added that Abdullah ibn 'Umar asked 'Umar about it, and he said: Yes, if Sa'd narrates anything to you from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , do not ask anyone else about it. (Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith 1275)
[Machine] Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas narrated a hadith to the Prophet ﷺ regarding performing ablution over the socks. Abu Salamah also narrated that Abdullah ibn Umar mentioned the same thing, and Umar said to Abdullah, as if he was blaming him: "Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas narrated this hadith to you, yet you did not accept it. When Sa'd narrates a hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , do not seek another narration behind his hadith." Bukhari mentioned its chain of narration.
Jarir urinated, then performed ablution and wiped over the socks. It was said to him: Do you do like this? He said: Yes, I saw that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ urinated, then performed ablution and then wiped over his shoes. A'mash said: Ibrahim had observed that this hadith was a surprise for them (the people) because Jarir had embraced Islam after the revelation of Surat al-Ma'ida. (Using translation from Muslim 272a)
Jarir urinated. He then performed ablution and wiped over the socks. He said: What can prevent me from wiping (over the socks); I saw the Messenger of Allah (doing so). They (the people) said: This (action of yours) might be valid before the revelation of Surat al-Ma’idah. He replied: I embraced Islam after the revelation of Surat al-Ma’idah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 154)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ walked to the tribe of Saba'ah and found someone standing. Then he called for water, so I brought him water. He performed ablution and wiped over his footwear.
[Machine] "From the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , that he went out to attend to his need and Al-Mughirah followed him with a container of water. He poured it on him when he finished attending to his need, then he performed ablution and wiped over his socks."
[Machine] "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wipe over his turban and his socks, the wording of a hadith of Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak, and in another hadith, it is mentioned that he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wipe over his socks and turban."
[Machine] I saw the Prophet ﷺ wiping over his socks, and Al-Bukhari mentioned these narrations as a reference to them.
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution and wipe over his socks and headscarf. This is the wording of the hadith of Isa. And in the hadith of Ibn Numair with his chain of narrators on the authority of Bilal, it is reported that the Prophet ﷺ performed ablution and wiped over his socks and turban."
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah perform ablution multiple times and wipe over his socks, and he prayed all the prayers with one ablution. Umar said to him, "You did something that you did not used to do before." He said, "Yes, I deliberately did it, O Umar."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed five prayers with the same ablution of the occasion of the capture of Mecca, and he wiped over his socks. ‘Umar said to him(the Prophet): I saw you doing a thing today that you never did. He said: I did it deliberately. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 172)
[Machine] With the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he entered a valley, fulfilled his need, then came out and performed ablution and wiped over his socks. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, you forgot to take off your socks!" He said, "No, rather you forgot. My Lord has commanded me to wipe over them." And it has been narrated to me that the permission to wipe over the socks has been granted by Umar ibn al-Khattab, Ali ibn Abi Talib, Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Abdullah ibn Abbas, Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, Ammar ibn Yasir, Jabir ibn Abdullah, Amr ibn al-'As, Anas ibn Malik, Sahl ibn Sa'd, Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari, Mugheerah ibn Shu'bah, Bara' ibn Azib, Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, Jabir ibn Samurah, Abu Umamah al-Bahili, Abdullah ibn al-Harith ibn Jaz', and Abu Zaid al-Ansari. All of them agree.
[Machine] That whoever is narrated from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he disliked wiping over the socks, it has been narrated from him otherwise. The Shaykh said: The only thing that reached us regarding his dislike of that is from Ali, Aisha, and Ibn Abbas. As for the narration from Ali that he said, "The wiping of the socks preceded the book (Quran) and it was not narrated from him with a connected chain of transmission that proves its likeness. As for Aisha, she disliked that, and it was established from her that she referred to Ali's knowledge about it. And Ali reported from the Prophet ﷺ concerning its permissibility.
[Machine] I asked Ali about wiping in ablution and he said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command us to wipe over the [non-leather] socks for one day and night for the residents, and three times for the traveler."
[Machine] Go to Ali, for he used to travel with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . So I went to him and asked him, and he said: "When we used to travel with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he would command us to wipe over our socks. As for Ibn Abbas, he disliked it when he did not have the Prophet's ﷺ permission to wipe over his socks after the meal was served. But when it was confirmed for him, he returned to it."
[Machine] He informed him, Omar said: I was with Umar when Saad and Ibn Umar asked him about wiping over the socks, so he ruled for Saad, and I said to Saad: We have learned that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiped over his socks, but did he do so before the meal or after it? No one informed you that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiped after the meal, so Umar remained silent.
[Machine] Indeed, when Umar was in a dispute with Saad and Ibn Umar regarding wiping over the socks, he ruled in favor of Saad. I said, "If only you had said this about wiping over the socks during long journeys and extreme cold." He said, "This is an allowance from him for wiping over the socks during long journeys and extreme cold, after he used to completely reject it. It has been narrated from him that he issued a fatwa allowing it for both residents and travelers alike."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ allowed three days and nights for the traveller and one day and night for one who is not travelling (i.e., with regard to wiping over the khuffain or leather slippers) (Using translation from Aḥmad 1126)
[Machine] From the Prophet, ﷺ , that he wiped (his hands) after the meal was served. He said, "Ata' did not say anything."
[Machine] Jareer performed ablution (wudhu) from a purification place and wiped over his slippers. They asked him, "Do you wipe over your slippers?" He replied, "Indeed, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping over his slippers, and this narration amazed the companions of Abdullah ibn Mas'ood. They said, "Verily, Jareer embraced Islam after the revelation of the verse about wiping over the slippers."
[Machine] Yes, I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping over his socks. He said, "Did I not perform ablution except after the meal was brought down?" Abu Yahya said, Ibrahim ibn Adham said, "I have not heard a better hadith regarding wiping over the socks than this one."
[Machine] I saw the Prophet ﷺ wiping over his socks, and after the meal was served, Jarir said, "I only embraced Islam after the meal was served."
