[Machine] He informed him, Omar said: I was with Umar when Saad and Ibn Umar asked him about wiping over the socks, so he ruled for Saad, and I said to Saad: We have learned that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiped over his socks, but did he do so before the meal or after it? No one informed you that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiped after the meal, so Umar remained silent.  

البيهقي:١٢٩٠ – أَخْبَرَنَا بِصِحَّةِ ذَلِكَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ السُّكَّرِيُّ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الرَّمَادِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أنا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي خُصَيْفٌ أَنَّ مِقْسَمًا مَوْلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ

أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ كُنْتُ أَنَا عِنْدَ عُمَرَ حِينَ سَأَلَهُ سَعْدٌ وَابْنُ عُمَرَ عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ فَقَضَى لِسَعْدٍ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لِسَعْدٍ قَدْ عَلِمْنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ وَلَكِنْ أَقَبْلَ الْمَائِدَةِ أَمْ بَعْدَهَا؟ لَا يُخْبِرُكَ أَحَدٌ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَسَحَ بَعْدَ الْمَائِدَةِ فَسَكَتَ عُمَرُ

[Machine] He informed him, saying, "I was with Umar when Saad and Ibn Umar asked him about wiping over the socks. Umar then gave a verdict to Saad and said, Ibn Abbas then said, "O Saad, we know that the Prophet ﷺ wiped over his socks, but did he do it before or after eating?" Saad asked, "Did he do it before or after the meal?" Ibn Abbas replied, "No one informed you that the Prophet ﷺ wiped over them after the meal was served." Umar remained silent.
