[Machine] Narrated Aisha, the wife of the Prophet (PBUH), she mentioned the Hadith and said, "Then the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) woke up and the prayer had come, so he sought water but could not find it, so the verse of Tayammum was revealed."
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Ibn 'Umar through another chain of transmitters. (Using translation from Muslim 1501b)
[Machine] Abu Amr, referring to Al-Awza'i, was asked, "If I am in need of prayer and there is water blocking the way, am I obligated to make my way to it?" Abu Amr replied, "Musa bin Yasir narrated to me from Nafi' who narrated from Ibn Umar that when he was traveling, prayer time would come and there would be water between him and the place of prayer, causing him to take a detour of one or two miles or the like. However, he did not make his way back to it."
[Machine] About a shepherd with his flock or a shepherd who is affected by Janaba (impurity) and there is a distance of a mile or three between him and the water. He said, "Let him perform tayammum (dry ablution) with clean sand."
[Machine] "Ask for water until the last moment, and if you do not find water, then perform Tayammum and pray. However, this narration is not considered authentic, as it is transmitted from Ali and by Thabit from Ibn Umar. And with him is the apparent meaning of the Quran."
