1. Purification
The Prophet ﷺ would take a bath because of sexual defilement on Friday, after opening a vein and after washing a dead body. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 348)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that washing is required for five things: sexual impurity, cupping, washing on Fridays, washing the deceased, and washing with the water of a bath. Muslim reported in Sahih the hadith of Mus'ab ibn Shaybah from Talq ibn Habib from Ibn Zubayr from Aisha from the Prophet ﷺ who said that there are ten acts of fitrah (natural disposition), but he left out this hadith and did not include it. I do not see any problem in leaving it out except for criticism from some of the narrators. However, there is a witness for it in the hadith of Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As, except that he did not mention washing the deceased.
[Machine] We used to wash five times from impurity and cupping and shaving the armpits and from the bathroom, and on Fridays, Al-A'mash said, "I mentioned that to Ibrahim, and he said, 'They used to consider obligatory only washing from impurity, although they preferred to wash on Fridays.'"
[Machine] He washed himself from the bathroom, Friday, janabah (major ritual impurity), and cupping therapy and Moses.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He who washes the dead should take a bath, and he who carries him should perform ablution. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3161)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever washes him with a thorough bathing, and whoever carries him with ablution, meaning the deceased, and likewise."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever washes him/her, performs the ritual washing, and whoever carries him/her, performs ablution, meaning in the case of the deceased and the funeral."
[Machine] From the Prophet, ﷺ , he said, "Whoever washes him (the deceased), it is a washing, and whoever carries him, it is ablution." 'Ali ibn Ahmad ibn 'Abdan informed us, Ahmad ibn 'Ubayd al-Saffar informed us, Muhammad ibn Ghalib informed us, Musa ibn Isma'il, meaning ibn Isma'il, informed us, and Wahb mentioned it and added, He said, "So I mentioned that to Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib." He said, "If I knew that he was impure, I would not have touched him." It was narrated from Ishaq, from Abu Sa'id, and it was said: something different.
[Machine] Abu Sa'id said: "Whoever washes a dead body, let him wash himself, and whoever carries him, let him perform ablution." Al-Bukhari said: "And Ma'mar said, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Ishaq, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: 'And Musa ibn Ismail narrated to us, from Aban, from Yahya, from a man of Bani Layth, from Ishaq, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: 'And Musa ibn Ismail narrated to us, from Hammad, from Muhammad ibn Amr, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, similar to it.' And Al-Awaisi narrated to us, from Ad-Darawardi, from Muhammad ibn Amr, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurairah, who said: 'This is the closest narration.' And Ibn Hanbal and Ali said: 'Nothing in this chapter can be considered authentic.'"
[Machine] He rewarded him by allowing Abu Salih to come between him and Abu Hurayrah in this matter, meaning Ishaq, the slave of Zaidah, said: "And the Hadith of Mus'ab is weak, it has qualities that are not required for action." The Sheikh said, and Abu Isa said: "I asked Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari about this Hadith and he said: "Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Ali ibn Abdullah said that nothing in this chapter is valid." Muhammad said: "And the Hadith of Aisha in this chapter is not like that 1441." And Abi Saeed ibn Abi Umar told us that Abi Abbas al-Asamm, I am al-Rabi, said: "Al-Shafi'i said: "The reason why I did not mention the obligation of washing from washing the dead is that in its chain of narration there is a man whose knowledge I am not sure of, who reports his Hadith until the present day on what convinces me. But if I find someone who convinces me, I will consider it obligatory and I will consider ablution from touching the dead obligatory towards him, because they are in one Hadith." And Abi Abdullah al-Hafiz told us, Abi Bakr ibn Ishaq narrated to us from Abi Bakr al-Mutarriz, he said: "I heard Muhammad ibn Yahya saying: 'I do not know about the one who washed the dead, let him wash himself with a confirmed Hadith, even if it is confirmed, we must use it.'" Imam Ahmad said: "And it has been narrated from another perspective, it is weak from Abu Salamah, raised."
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ : Whoever washes a dead body should then perform ablution. This is the statement of the Qadi, and in another narration by the Hafiz, he said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "From washing the dead body is the washing, and from carrying it is the ablution." There is no argument based on the opinions of Ibn Lahiah and Hunayn bin Abi Hakim. The preserved narration from the Hadith of Abu Salamah, which Al-Bukhari referred to, is attributed to Abu Huraira.
[Machine] He said, "Whoever washes a dead person, let him wash himself, and whoever carries a dead person, let him perform ablution, and whoever walks with it, let him not sit until its burial is completed." The Sheikh said, "This is the correct (narration), attributed to Abu Hurairah, as indicated by Al-Bukhari. And it has been narrated from another source as well, from Abu Hurairah in a raised (narration)."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever washes a dead body should then perform ablution. And whoever carries the dead body should then perform ablution." Zuhyr bin Muhammad said, "Al-Bukhari narrated from him (Abu Huraira) disapproved hadiths. And Abu Abdullah Nisa'i said that Zuhyr is not reliable. It was also narrated from another source that Abu Huraira said this statement."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever washes the dead should then purify himself, and whoever carries him should then perform ablution. This is 'Amr ibn 'Umayr, he is known by this hadeeth but it is not well-known."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever washes a deceased person should perform ablution, and whoever carries a funeral procession should perform ablution. This is the well-known saying from the hadith of Ibn Abi Dhi'b and Salih, the servant of Al-Tu'ama, and it is not strong."
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever carries him (the deceased), then let him perform ablution.' Al-Layth said: 'It reached us that this is from the Hadith of Abu Hurairah, mentioned by Abdullah bin Amr bin al-'As, so Abdullah said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended that one should not attend the funeral except while in a state of ablution.' The Sheikh said: 'And this has also been narrated from another face from Abu Hurairah, though its chain of narrators is weak.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever wants to carry a dead body should perform ablution." The sheikh of the narrations raised in this chapter said: "The narration from Abu Huraira is not strong due to the ignorance of some of its narrators and the weakness of some of them. The authentic narration from Abu Huraira is his statement, which is stopped but not raised."
[Machine] "Whoever washes the deceased, let them perform ablution, and whoever enters them into their grave, let them perform the ritual purification. It has been said about Ibn Al-Musayyib regarding his statement."
[Machine] To wash the one who washes the deceased, and to perform ablution for the one who enters his grave at the time of burial, and not to perform ablution on anyone other than those who prayed for him, or who carried his funeral procession, or who walked with it. It has been reported that Ibn al-Musayyib said, "If I had known that he was impure, I would not have touched him." And it was narrated from Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, elevated, concerning that.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever washes a deceased person, let him also wash himself." And other than him, Ma'mar reported from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir from Abu Ishaq from Abu Hurairah, and Aban reported from Yahya from Abu Ishaq who heard it from Abu Hurairah. The Shaykh said, and Abu Bakr ibn Ishaq, the scholar, reported the news from his father, from his father, from Hudhaifah. He said, and Ali ibn al-Madinah said, "There is no established hadith regarding it." The Shaykh, may Allah, the Exalted, have mercy on him, said, and it is well-known that it is reported from Abu Ishaq, from Najiyah ibn Ka'b al-Asadi, from Ali.
[Machine] When Abu Talib passed away, I went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, your uncle has died." He said, "Go and bury him." I said, "I cannot bury him alone." He said, "Then go and call for help." So I went and buried him, and then the Prophet ﷺ told me to perform ghusl (ritual bath) and he supplicated for me with prayers that pleased me more than anything on earth. Al-Thawri, Shu'bah, and Sharik narrated it from Abu Ishaq and Al-Amash narrated it from him from a man from Ali and Najiya ibn Ka'b al-Asadi. However, his credibility is not established according to the two Sahih authorities, and it is not mentioned in it that he washed him. Abu Abdillah al-Hafiz informed us that I am al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Ishaq; Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Bara'ah said: Ali ibn al-Madinini said: The hadith of Ali is that the Prophet ﷺ ordered him to bury Abu Talib. We did not find him except with the people of Kufa, and in his chain of transmission is some weakness.
[Machine] When Abu Talib passed away, I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Indeed, your uncle, the sheikh, has passed away." He said to me, "Go and wash his body, then do not say anything until you come to me." So I performed ablution, then I went to him. He made supplications for me with supplications that delighted me, which were the supplications of the red camel. And Umar ibn Abdul Aziz narrated to us, on the authority of Al-Abbas ibn Al-Fadl An-Nadrwi Al-Harwi, who informed me that Ahmad ibn Najdah narrated to him, on the authority of Sa'id, who mentioned it with his chain of narration in a similar manner, and added the supplications of the red camel and its blackness. And Ali, when he washed a dead body, would wash it individually. Al-Hasan ibn Yazid, the deaf, narrated a similar hadith with his chain of narration. And Abu Sa'd Al-Malini narrated to us that Abu Ahmad Abdullah ibn Adiy Al-Hafiz said, "Al-Hasan ibn Yazid Al-Kufi is not strong, and his hadith from As-Suddi is not preserved. And the well-known transmission of this hadith is attributed to Abu Ishaq As-Sabi'i, on the authority of Najiya ibn Ka'b, on the authority of Ali."
[Machine] Ali ibn Abi Talib entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him about the death of his father, so he said: "Go and wash him, and do not inform me of anything until you come to me." So I washed him and shrouded him, then I went to him and he said: "Go and perform Ghusl." Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Abdullah al-Nawaqani informed us of this, and Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Asfahani as-Saffar informed us, narrating from Ja'far ibn Muhammad at-Tayalisii, narrating from Ishaq ibn Muhammad al-Faruwiyy, narrating from Ali ibn Abi Ali who mentioned it. And this is a disapproved narration with no basis in this chain of narration. Ali ibn Abi Ali Al-Lahbi is weak, criticized by Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Yahya ibn Ma'in, and also criticized by Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Abdur Rahman an-Nasai. It is also narrated from Ali from another perspective, and this chain of narration is also weak.
[Machine] When Abu Talib died, I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, the misguided old man has died." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Go and wash him, shroud him, and give him funeral rites." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, should I do that?" He replied, "Who else is more deserving than you to do that? Go and wash him, shroud him, and give him funeral rites, and do not speak about anything until you come to me." So I left and did as he instructed. Then, when I came to him, he said, "Go and perform the ablution for the major impurity. This is a mistake. The well-known narration from Abu Ishaq, from Najiyah, from Ali, as mentioned previously, and Salih ibn Muqatil ibn Salih narrates the anomalous things, and it is also narrated from Al-Harith, from Ali, in his statement."
A similar tradition has also been transmitted by Ibn 'Abbas through a different chain of narrators. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2127)
[Machine] "Whoever washes a dead person, let him perform ghusl (a ritual bath) as it has been narrated about him with this chain of narration, and the authentic (narration) from Ibn Abbas contradicts that."
[Machine] You have made your companion impure, it is enough for him to perform ablution from it.
[Machine] "They are impure, so you wash from them, meaning the washing of the deceased."
[Machine] There is no obligation on you to wash your deceased with a specific washing. Indeed, your deceased is a believer who is pure and not impure. It is sufficient for you to wash your hands. This has been narrated as a raised Hadith and its elevation is not valid.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "You do not have to wash your dead in a specific way. When you wash them, they are considered a Muslim, a believer, and pure. And a Muslim is not impure. It is enough for you to wash your hands. This narration is weak, and there is doubt about its attribution to Abu Shaybah. Some others narrated it from another source, Ibn Abbas, as a raised (i.e., a statement directly from the Prophet)."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Do not defile your dead, for a Muslim is not impure whether alive or dead." And it was narrated from another source that Ibn Uyaynah also said the same, and the widely accepted view is suspended.
[Machine] Then wipe over the believer as much as you are able
[Machine] Ibn Umar used to say, "Whoever washes a deceased person and gets some of its water on himself, let him take a complete bath. Otherwise, let him perform ablution."
[Machine] We used to wash the deceased, so some of us would wash themselves and some of us would not wash themselves.
[Machine] "And Nafi' said, 'We used to wash the deceased, so some of us would perform ablution and others would take a bath, and then he would come back, and we would shroud him, then embalm him, and pray upon him without repeating the ablution.'"
[Machine] Nafi' said, "I have seen Abdullah bin Umar grain grinding Sa'id bin Zaid and carrying him while he was being carried by someone. Then he entered the mosque, prayed without performing ablution."
[Machine] For me, I did not wash from my own washing, but I washed from the heat.
[Machine] If your companion is impure, then cleanse yourselves. But if he is a believer, why would we cleanse ourselves from the believer? Its chain of transmission is not strong.
[Machine] We were only in prayer and then returned to prayer, so there was no ablution.
[Machine] Glory be to Allah, the dead believers are impure. And is he not but a man who took a stick and carried it?
