[Machine] I went to Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , to ask her about wiping over the socks. She told me to ask the son of Abu Talib, for he used to travel with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . So I went to Ali and asked him, and he said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to wipe over the socks three times when we are traveling, and for a day and a night when we are staying in one place. Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us, Abu Amr ibn Abi Ja'far informed me, Abdul-Razzaq informed Isaac, and he mentioned it in a similar manner except that he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted three days and nights for the traveler, and a day and a night for the resident." And Sufyan, when he mentioned Umar, praised him.
[Machine] Ask Ali ibn Abi Talib, for he used to go on military expeditions with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . So I asked him and he said, "We used to perform Tayammum (dry ablution) for three days and nights for the traveler, and for the resident it was one day and night."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered wiping over the two socks during the Tabuk expedition for three days and nights for the traveler, and one day and night for the resident. Abu al-Hasan al-Muqri' narrated to us, who was narrated to by al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who was narrated to by Yusuf ibn Ya'qub, who was narrated to by Abu al-Rabi', who was narrated to by Hushaym ibn Bashir, who mentioned it in a similar manner. Abu 'Isa al-Tirmidhi said: I asked Muhammad, meaning Al-Bukhari, about this hadith, and he said: it is a good hadith.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about wiping over the socks, so he said for the traveler, three days and their nights, and for the resident, one day and one night. And my father used to take off his socks and wash his feet. And Abu Al-Qasim Abdur-Rahman ibn Ubaidullah Al-Hurfi from Baghdad informed us, narrating from Abu Al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Al-Zubayr Al-Qurashi Al-Kufi, that I am Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Affan, and he mentioned it in a similar way. And this is the narration.
[Machine] I came to Safwan ibn 'Assal Al-Muradi and he asked me, "What brings you here?" I said, "I seek knowledge." He replied, "Verily, the angels spread their wings for the seeker of knowledge out of satisfaction for what he seeks." I said, "May I ask you a personal question? I have a habit of wiping the two soles of my feet after relieving myself or urinating, and I was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Have you heard anything from him regarding this matter?" He said, "Yes, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to instruct us, when we were on a journey or traveling, not to remove our socks for three days and nights, except for sexual impurity (janabah), but we can remove them for defecation, urination, or sleep."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out a military expedition, and in it, he said, 'Let one of you wipe over his socks when traveling for three days and nights, and when staying in a place, for one day and night.'
The Prophet ﷺ said: The time limit for wiping over the socks for a traveller is three days (and three nights) and for a resident it is one day and one night. Abu Dawud said: Another version adds: Had we requested him to extend (the period of wiping), he would have extended. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 157)
[Machine] The wiping for the traveler is for three days and their nights.
[Machine] He said that a man wipes on his socks until the time of its day and night.
[Machine] Al-Harith, I do not remove my shoes until I come to my bed.
[Machine] I went out with Abdullah ibn Mas'ud to the city and he did not remove his shoes three times and wiped over them.
[Machine] A day for the resident and three days for the traveler.
I asked ʿAʿishah ؓ about wiping over the khuff (leather slippers) and she said: Ask ʿAli ؓ . I asked him and he said: Three days and nights - i.e., for the traveller - and one day and night for one who is not travelling (Using translation from Aḥmad 780)
