[Machine] Ask Ali ibn Abi Talib, for he used to go on military expeditions with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . So I asked him and he said, "We used to perform Tayammum (dry ablution) for three days and nights for the traveler, and for the resident it was one day and night."  

البيهقي:١٣٠٥ – وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ الضَّرِيرُ ثنا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُخَيْمِرَةَ عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ فَقَالَتْ

سَلْ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يَغْزُو مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ كُنَّا نَمْسَحُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيَهُنَّ لِلْمُسَافِرِ وَيَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ لِلْمُقِيمِ  

رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ زُهَيْرِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ وَقَالَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ فَقَالَتْ ايتِ عَلِيًّا فَإِنَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِذَلِكَ مِنِّي فَأَتَيْتُ عَلِيًّا فَذَكَرَهُ وَأَخْرَجَهُ أَيْضًا مِنْ حَدِيثِ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ

[Machine] I asked Ali about wiping in ablution and he said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command us to wipe over the [non-leather] socks for one day and night for the residents, and three times for the traveler."
