I asked 'Alqama if Ibn Mas'ud was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the night of the Jinn (the night when the Prophet met them). He (Ibn Mas'uad) said: No, but we were in the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one night and we missed him. We searched for him in the valleys and the hills and said. He has either been taken away (by jinn) or has been secretly killed. He (the narrator) said. We spent the worst night which people could ever spend. When it was dawn we saw him coming from the side of Hiri'. He (the narrator) reported. We said: Messenger of Allah, we missed you and searched for you, but we could not find you and we spent the worst night which people could ever spend. He (the Holy Prophet) said: There came to me an inviter on behalf of the Jinn and I went along with him and recited to them the Qur'an. He (the narrator) said: He then went along with us and showed us their traces and traces of their embers. They (the Jinn) asked him (the Holy Prophet) about their provision and he said: Every bone on which the name of Allah is recited is your provision. The time it will fall in your hand it would be covered with flesh, and the dung of (the camels) is fodder for your animals. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Don't perform istinja with these (things) for these are the food of your brothers (Jinn).

AbuZayd quoted Abdullah ibn Mas'ud as saying that on the night when the jinn listened to the Qur'an the Prophet ﷺ said: What is in your skin vessel? He said: I have some nabidh. He (the Holy Prophet) said: It consists of fresh dates and pure water. Sulayman ibn Dawud reported the same version of this tradition on the authority of AbuZayd or Zayd. But Sharik said that Hammad did not mention the words "night of the jinn".
On the night of the jinn, the Messenger of Allah said to him: "Do you have water for ablution?" He said: "No, I have nothing, but some Nabidh in a vessel." He said: "Good dates and pure water (i.e. there is no harm from the mixing of the two)." So he performed ablution with it. This is the narration of Waki'.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ asked the Jinn, "Do you have any purification (i.e., ablution)?" They replied, "There is nothing except some wine in a container." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Good dates and pure water are sufficient for ablution." He then performed ablution.

I asked 'Abd Allaah b Mas'ud: Which of you was in the company of the Messenger of Allaah ( sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam ) on the night when the jinn attended him? He replied : None of us was with him.
Jabir [may Allah be pleased with him] said: “The Messenger of Allah came out to his Companions, and recited Surat Ar-Rahman from its beginning to its end for them, and they were silent. So he said: ‘I recited it to the Jinns on the ‘Night of the Jinns,’ and they had a better response to it than you did. Each time I came to Allah’s saying: ‘Which of your Lords favor do you deny.’ They said: “We do not deny any of Your favors our Lord! And Yours is praise.”
Messenger of Allah said: "Do not perform Istinja, with dung, nor with bones. For indeed it is provisions for your brothers among the Jinn."
On the night of the Jinn the Messenger of Allah said to Ibn Mas'ud: "Do you have water?" He said: "No, only some Nabidh in a large water skin." The Messenger of Allah said: "Good dates and pure water." (i.e. there is no harm from the mixing of the two.) Pour it for me." He said: "So I performed ablution with it."

[Machine] When it was the night of the jinn, two men remained from them and said, "We will witness the dawn with you, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do you have water?" [Machine] When it was the night of the jinn, two men from among them - meaning from the jinn - were present. Al-Ramadi said, "I thought they were the slaves of Abdul Razzaq." They said, "We want to witness the prayer with you, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ asked me, "Do you have ablution?" I said, "No, I have a vessel in which there is wine." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do you have any dates?" I said, "Yes, I have good dates and pure water." So he (the Prophet) performed ablution.

Then the Prophetﷺ said, 'O Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, it is a drink and a purification.'"

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said that on the night of the jinn, a group of them surrounded him. One of them came, as dark as the trunk of a palm tree, and told me not to leave my place. He instructed me to recite the Quran to them. When the jinn saw Zut, he said that they were similar to them. The Prophet ﷺ then asked if I had any water, to which I replied no. He asked if I had any wine, and I replied yes. He then performed ablution with it.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not recite upon the jinn nor did he see them. However, he set out with a group of his companions, intentionally, to the market of `Ukaz, which was blocked off by the Shayateen (devils). The shooting stars were sent upon them, so they returned to their people and said, "What is wrong with you?" They replied, "There is a barrier between us and the news from the heavens, and shooting stars were sent upon us." They said, "This is nothing but something that has happened. So go forth to every corner of the earth and look at what has happened." So, they went forth in all directions, striking the eastern and western parts of the earth, seeking to find out what had happened between them and the news from the sky. When they returned to their people, they said, "Indeed, we have heard a wonderful Quran which guides to righteousness, so we have believed in it and will never associate anything with our Lord. Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, then revealed, "Say: It has been revealed to me that a group of jinn listened and said, 'Indeed, we have heard a wonderful Quran which guides to righteousness, so we have believed in it and will never associate anything with our Lord.'" (Quran, Surah Al-Jinn, ayah 2)

[Machine] I asked Ibn Mas'ood, "Did anyone from amongst you accompany the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the night of the jinn?" He responded, "None of us accompanied him, but we lost him one night in Makkah. We suspected that he was assassinated or taken away by the jinn. We spent the night in great distress and fear. When it was morning or at the time of dawn, we found him coming towards us from the direction of Hira. We informed him about what happened and he ﷺ said, 'Indeed, a caller from the jinn came to me, so I went to them and recited upon them.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then went with us and showed us the traces of their presence and the marks of their fires."

[Machine] We said to Abdullah, "Did anyone from among you accompany the Prophet ﷺ on the night of the jinn?" He said, "None of us accompanied him except me. We set out that night in search of a man who had been missing. We thought he might have been taken captive or killed, so we scattered in the valleys and the ravines to search for him. Then I met the Prophet ﷺ approaching me from the direction of Hira. I said, 'By my mother and father! We have been in search of a man who spent a night with some people.' He said, 'Indeed, he was called by the jinn, and I answered them by reciting the Quran to them.' He showed me their tracks and the traces of their fires."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ followed me one night to the valley of the jinn, so I went with him until we reached the highest point of Makkah. He drew a line for me and said, "Do not leave." Then he went obediently into the mountains, and I witnessed men descending upon him from the tops of the mountains until they surrounded me and him. I unsheathed my sword and said, "I will strike until I rescue the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." Then I remembered his words, "Do not leave until I come to you." So I remained in that state until dawn came. The Prophet ﷺ arrived while I was standing and asked, "Are you still in the same position?" I replied, "Even if I stayed here for a month, I would not leave until you come to me." Then I informed him of what I intended to do, and he said, "If you had gone, neither you nor I would have ever met until the Day of Judgment." Then he intertwined his fingers with mine and said, "I have been promised that the jinn and mankind will believe in me. As for mankind, they have believed in me, but as for the jinn, you have seen them." He said, "I do not think that the appointed time is far off." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, should I nominate Abu Bakr as your successor?" He turned away from me, and I saw that he did not agree. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, should I nominate Umar?" Again, he turned away from me, and I saw that he did not agree. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, should I nominate Ali?" He said, "That is the one, by the One other than whom there is no deity. If you pledge allegiance to him and obey him, he will admit you to Paradise."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the night of the jinn, while he was with Jibril and I was with him, the Prophet ﷺ began reciting and the Afrit drew closer and got closer. Then Jibril said to the Prophet ﷺ , "Shall I teach you some words that if you say them, the Afrit will fall on his face and his flame will go out?" Say, "I seek refuge in the noble face of Allah and His perfect words from the evil of what descends from the sky and what ascends therein, and from the evil of what is spread in the earth and what comes out of it, and from the trials of the night and the day, and from the evil of those who blow on knots, and from the evil of an envier when he envies, O Rahman (the Most Merciful), then the Afrit fell on his face and his flame went out." Malik Ibn Anas went against him and Al-Harith Ibn Maskeen recited it in a different way. Ibn Al-Qasim reported to me that Malik narrated to us from Yahya Ibn Sa'id, who said, "I was taken on a journey with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and I saw a jinn seeking him with a torch of fire. Whenever the Prophet ﷺ turned, he would see him. So Jibril ﷺ said to him and recited the hadith."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and said, "I have been commanded to recite to your brothers from the jinn, so let one of you stand with me who does not have in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of arrogance." He said, "So I stood with him, and I had with me a pot of water." He said, "When we emerged, I drew a line around me, and he said, 'Do not leave it, for if you leave it, you will not see me and I will not see you until the Day of Resurrection.'" He said, "So I stood there until dawn came, and he said, 'Why do I see you standing?' I said, 'I did not sit for fear that I would leave it.' He said, 'If you had left it, you would not have seen me and I would not have seen you until the Day of Resurrection. Do you have any light with you?' I said, 'No.' He said, 'What is in the pot?' I said, 'Dates, sweet and pure water.' Then he performed ablution and established the prayer. When he finished the prayer, two jinn men came to him and asked him for provisions. He said, 'Did I not command both of you and your people with what is good for you?' They said, 'Yes, but we wanted some of us to attend the prayer with you.' He said, 'Who are you both?' They said, 'We are from the people of Nasib.' He said, 'Both of them have succeeded, and their people have also succeeded. I have commanded them with bones and dung as food and fodder, and I have prohibited them from performing istinja with bones or dung.'" Abu Sa'd Ahmad bin Muhammad al-Malini narrated this hadith on the authority of Abu Ahmad bin 'Adiy al-Hafith, who said, "I heard Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Hammad say that Muhammad bin Ismail al-Bukhari said, 'May Allah have mercy on Abu Zaid who narrated the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud that the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Dates are good and water is pure. A man of unknown origin who was not known to be in the company of 'Abdullah narrated this hadith, as narrated by 'Alqamah from 'Abdullah. Shu'bah narrated from 'Amr bin Murrah, who said, 'I asked Abu 'Ubaidah, 'Was 'Abdullah with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the night of the jinn?' He said, 'No.' Abu Sa'd al-Malini reported that Abu Ahmad bin 'Adiy narrated this hadith on the authority of Abu Sa'd al-Malini, who said, "This hadith was narrated by Abu Ahmad bin 'Adiy from Abu 'Abdullah al-Daraqutni, who weakened the chains of this narration. 'Ali bin Zaid has been deemed weak, and this hadith is not included in Hammaad bin Salamah's collections. The trustworthy narrator from Ta'if, whose name is Rashed bin Kaysan, is unknown, and nothing from this narration can be proven. Abu Bakr bin al-Harith al-Faqih said, 'Abu al-Hasan al-Daraqutni, the Hafiz, has deemed this narration weak.'"
