٥٨۔ كِتَابُ التَّارِيخِ ص ١
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had hair which reached the lobes of his ears, and I saw him wearing red robe. I did not see anything more beautiful than it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4072)
«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَجُلًا مَرْبُوعًا بَعِيدَ مَا بَيْنَ الْمَنْكِبَيْنِ لَهُ شَعَرٌ يَبْلُغُ شَحْمَةَ أُذُنَيْهِ رَأَيْتُهُ فِي حُلَّةٍ حَمْرَاءَ لَمْ أَرَ قَطُّ أَحْسَنَ مِنْهُ ﷺ»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ قَامَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ
Al-Bara' reported that Messenger of Allah ﷺ had the most handsome face amongst men and he had the best disposition and he was neither very tall nor short-statured. (Using translation from Muslim 2337c)
سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ يَقُولُ «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَحْسَنَ النَّاسِ وَجْهًا وَأَحْسَنَهُمْ خَلْقًا وَخُلُقًا لَيْسَ بِالطَّوِيلِ الذَّاهِبِ وَلَا بِالْقَصِيرِ»
ذِكْرُ لَوْنِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ
«كَانَ لَوْنُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَسْمَرَ»
ذِكْرُ مَا كَانَ يُشَبَّهُ بِهِ وَجْهُ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ
"A man asked Al-Bara: 'Was the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ like a sword?' He said: 'No, like the moon.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3636)
رَجُلٌ لِلْبَرَاءِ كَانَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِثْلَ السَّيْفِ؟ قَالَ «لَا وَلَكِنْ مِثْلَ الْقَمَرِ»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ عَيْنِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a wide mouth (Dali' Al-Fam), his eyes were Ashkal, and he had thin heals (Manhus Al-'Aqib)." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3646)
عَنْ صِفَةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «كَانَ أَشْكَلَ الْعَيْنَيْنِ ضَلِيعَ الْفَمِ مَنْهُوسَ الْعَقِبِ»
ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ قَوْلَ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ أَشْكَلُ الْعَيْنَيْنِ، أَرَادَ بِهِ أَشْهَلَ الْعَيْنَيْنِ
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a wide mouth, captivating eyes, and his heels or feet were slightly raised."
«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ضَلِيعَ الْفَمِ أَشْهَلَ الْعَيْنَيْنِ مَنْهُوسَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ أَوِ الْقَدَمَيْنِ»
ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ كَانَ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ النَّاسِ ثَغْرًا
[Machine] The translation of the passage into English is: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed and had the most beautiful smile among people."
«ضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ النَّاسِ ثَغْرًا»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ شَعْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ
I asked Anas b. Malik: How was the hair of Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Thereupon he said: His hair was neither very curly nor very straight, and they hung over his shoulders and earlobes. (Using translation from Muslim 2338a)
قُلْتُ لِأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ كَيْفَ كَانَ شَعْرُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ «كَانَ شَعْرًا رَجِلًا لَيْسَ بِالْجَعْدِ وَلَا بِالسَّبْطِ بَيْنَ أُذُنَيْهِ وَعَاتِقِهِ»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ الشَّعَرَاتِ الَّتِي شَابَتْ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ
[Machine] From Thabit, it is narrated that they asked Anas ibn Malik, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reach old age?" He said, "Allah did not create any gray or white hair on his head or beard, except for about seventeen or eighteen strands of hair."
عَنْ ثَابِتٍ أَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا لِأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ هَلْ شَابَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ «مَا شَانَهُ اللَّهُ بِشَيْبٍ مَا كَانَ فِي رَأْسِهِ وَلِحْيَتِهِ سِوَى سَبْعَ عَشْرَةَ أَوْ ثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ شَعْرَةً»
ذِكْرُ خَبَرٍ أَوْهَمَ بَعْضَ النَّاسِ ضِدَّ مَا وَصَفْنَاهُ
[Machine] "I counted nothing on the head and beard of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except fourteen white hairs."
«مَا عَدَدْتُ فِي رَأْسِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَلِحْيَتِهِ إِلَّا أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ شَعْرَةً بَيْضَاءَ»
ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ قَوْلَ أَنَسٍ الَّذِي ذَكَرْنَاهُ لَمْ يُرِدْ بِهِ النَّفْيَ عَمَّا وَرَاءَ ذَلِكَ الْعَدَدِ
“The white hair of the Prophet ﷺ numbered approximately twenty.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3630)
«كَانَ شِيبُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عِشْرِينَ شَعْرَةً»
ذِكْرُ الْمَوْضِعِ الَّذِي كَانَ فِيهِ تِلْكَ الشَّعَرَاتُ
[Machine] "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with about twenty white strands of hair in the front of his head."
«رَأَيْتُ شِيبَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَحْوًا مِنْ عِشْرِينَ شَعْرَةً بَيْضَاءَ فِي مُقَدِّمَتِهِ»
ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ الشَّعَرَاتِ الَّتِي وَصَفْنَاهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ فِي لِحْيَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ دُونَ غَيْرِهَا مِنْ بَدَنِهِ
The Messenger of Allah [SAW] did not dye his hair; his gray hair were only a little beneath his lower lip and at his temples, and a little on his head. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 5087)
«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَخْضِبُ إِنَّمَا كَانَ شَمَطٌ عِنْدَ الْعَنْفَقَةِ يَسِيرًا وَفِي الرَّأْسِ يَسِيرًا وَفِي الصُّدْغَيْنِ يَسِيرًا»
ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ الشَّعَرَاتِ الَّتِي ذَكَرْنَاهَا كَانَ إِذَا مُشِّطْنَ وَدُهِنَّ لَمْ يَتَبَيَّنْ شَيْبَهَا
His face was as (bright) as the sword. Thereupon he (Jabir) said: No, it was round and like the sun and the moon. And I saw the seal near his shoulder of the size of a pigeon's egg and its color was the same as that of his body. (Using translation from Muslim 2344b)
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ يَقُولُ «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَدْ شَمِطَ مُقَدَّمُ رَأْسِهِ وَلِحْيَتُهُ وَإِذَا ادَّهَنَ وَمُشِّطْنَ لَمْ يَتَبَيَّنْ وَإِذَا شَعِثَ رَأَيْتُهُ وَكَانَ كَثِيرَ الشَّعْرِ وَاللِّحْيَةِ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ وَجْهُهُ مِثْلُ السَّيْفِ؟ قَالَ «لَا كَانَ مِثْلَ الشَّمْسِ وَالْقَمَرِ الْمُسْتَدِيرِ قَالَ فَرَأَيْتُ خَاتِمَهُ عِنْدَ كَتِفِهِ مِثْلَ بَيْضَةِ النَّعَامَةِ* يُشْبِهُ جَسَدَهُ»
ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ هَذِهِ اللَّفْظَةَ مِثْلُ بَيْضَةِ النَّعَامَةِ وَهِمَ فِيهِ إِسْرَائِيلُ إِنَّمَا هُوَ مِثْلُ بَيْضَةِ الْحَمَامَةِ
[Machine] "I looked at the ring that was on the Prophet's ﷺ finger and it appeared as if it was the size of a pigeon's egg."
«نَظَرْتُ إِلَى الْخَاتَمِ الَّذِي عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ كَأَنَّهُ بَيْضَةُ حَمَامَةٍ»
ذِكْرُ تَخْصِيصِ اللَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا صَفِيَّهُ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ بِالْخَاتَمِ الَّذِي جَعَلَهُ بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْهِ
[Machine] "He saw the Prophet ﷺ and observed the seal between his shoulders."
«أَنَّهُ رَأَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَأَبْصَرَ الْخَاتَمَ الَّذِي بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْهِ»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ الْخَاتَمِ الَّذِي كَانَ بَيْنَ كَتِفَيِّ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ
[Machine] Amr ibn Abi Asim An-Nabeel narrated to us, my father narrated to us, Azrah ibn Thabit narrated to us, Ilba ibn Ahmar Al-Yashkuri narrated to us, Abu Zaid said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me, "Come closer to me and wipe my back."
حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ أَبِي عَاصِمٍ النَّبِيلُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَزْرَةُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ حَدَّثَنَا عِلْبَاءُ بْنُ أَحْمَرَ الْيَشْكُرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَيْدٍ قَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «ادْنُ مِنِّي فَامْسَحْ ظَهْرِي»
ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ قَوْلَ أَبِي زَيْدٍ عَلَى كَتِفِهِ أَرَادَ بِهِ بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْهِ
[Machine] "He heard Jabir ibn Samurah saying, 'I saw the seal between the shoulders of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ resembling the size of a pigeon's egg, its color similar to the color of his body.'"
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ يَقُولُ «رَأَيْتُ الْخَاتَمَ الَّذِي بَيْنَ كَتِفَيِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِثْلَ بَيْضَةِ الْحَمَامَةِ لَوْنُهَا لَوْنُ جَسَدِهِ»
ذِكْرُ حَقِيقَةِ الْخَاتَمِ الَّذِي كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ مُعَجِّزَةً لِنُبُوَّتِهِ
[Machine] "The seal of prophethood on the back of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , was like a piece of flesh with 'Muhammad Rasul Allah' written on it."
«كَانَ خَاتَمُ النُّبُوَّةِ فِي ظَهْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِثْلَ الْبُنْدُقَةِ مِنْ لَحْمٍ عَلَيْهِ مَكْتُوبٌ مُحَمَّدُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ لِينِ يَدَيِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَطِيبِ عَرَقِهِ
[Machine] "I have never touched silk or brocade softer than the palm of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I have never smelled a fragrance more beautiful than the sweat of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
«مَا مَسَسْتُ حَرِيرًا قَطُّ وَلَا دِيبَاجًا أَلْيَنَ مِنْ كَفِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَلَا شَمَمْتُ رِيحًا قَطُّ وَلَا عَرَقًا أَطْيَبَ مِنْ رِيحِ عَرَقِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ طِيبِ رِيحِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ
[Machine] "I have never smelled musk or ambergris that is more fragrant than the scent of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."
«مَا شَمَمْتُ مِسْكَةً وَلَا عَنْبَرَةً قَطُّ أَطْيَبَ مِنْ رِيحِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ»
ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ عَرَقَ صَفِيِّ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَدْ كَانَ يُجْمَعُ لِيُتَطَيَّبَ بِهِ
[Machine] It was narrated that the Prophet ﷺ would visit Umm Salamah and it would be said to her, "He is upon a mattress." And he used to sweat a lot, so she would trace his sweat from the mattress and collect it in bottles along with fragrance. And he used to pray upon a triple mat.
«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَأْتِي أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ فَيَقِيلُ عِنْدَهَا عَلَى نَطْعٍ وَكَانَ كَثِيرَ الْعَرَقِ فَتَتَبَّعُ الْعَرَقَ مِنَ النَّطْعِ فَتَجْعَلُهُ فِي قَوَارِيرَ مَعَ الطِّيبِ وَكَانَ يُصَلِّي عَلَى الْخُمْرَةِ»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ حَيَاءِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was more modest than a virgin in her harem."
«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَشَدَّ حَيَاءً مِنَ الْعَذْرَاءِ فِي خِدْرِهَا»
ذِكْرُ الْخَبَرِ الْمُدْحِضِ قَوْلَ مَنْ زَعَمَ أَنَّ قَتَادَةَ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي عُتْبَةَ
[Machine] I asked Abdul Rahman bin Mahdi and said, "O Abu Sa'eed, was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ more modest than a virgin in her own home?" He said, "Yes, he was more modest than that. So ask about such matters and ask."
سَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ مَهْدِيٍّ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَشَدَّ حَيَاءً مِنَ الْعَذْرَاءِ فِي خِدْرِهَا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذَا فَاسْأَلْ عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذَا فَاسْأَلْ
ذِكْرُ الْخَبَرِ الْمُدْحِضِ قَوْلَ مَنْ زَعَمَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي عُتْبَةَ مَجْهُولٌ لَا يُعْرَفُ
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was more modest than a virgin in her chamber. If he disliked something, that could be seen in his face.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4180)
«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَشَدَّ حَيَاءً مِنَ الْعَذْرَاءِ فِي خِدْرِهَا إِذَا رَأَى شَيْئًا يَكْرَهُهُ عَرَفْنَا ذَلِكَ فِي وَجْهِهِ»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ مَشْيِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ إِذَا مَشَى مَعَ أَصْحَابِهِ
"I have not seen anything more beautiful than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. It was as if the sun flowed upon his face. And I have not seen anyone quicker in his walking than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. It was as if the earth was made easy for him. We would be exerting ourselves while he would not be struggling." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3648)
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ يَقُولُ «مَا رَأَيْتُ شَيْئًا أَحْسَنَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَأَنَّمَا الشَّمْسُ تَجْرِي فِي وَجْهِهِ وَمَا رَأَيْتُ أَسْرَعَ فِي مِشْيَتِهِ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَأَنَّ الْأَرْضَ تُطْوَى لَهُ إِنَّا لَنُجْهِدُ أَنْفُسَنَا وَإِنَّهُ لَغَيْرُ مُكْتَرِثٍ»
ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ مِشْيَةَ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ كَانَتْ تَكَفِّيًا
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a radiant complexion, as if his skin was pearls, when he walked, he walked with dignity.
«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَزْهَرَ اللَّوْنِ كَأَنَّ عَرَقَهُ اللُّؤْلُؤُ إِذَا مَشَى مَشَى تَكَفِّيًا»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ التَّكَفِّي الْمَذْكُورِ فِي خَبَرِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، الَّذِي ذَكَرْنَاهُ
[Machine] He, when describing the Prophet ﷺ , said, "He had a great stature, white-skinned with a reddish complexion. He had a great beard and a long mustache. His hands and feet were beautiful, and when he walked, it was as if he was walking on rainwater. I have never seen anyone like him before or after him."
أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا وَصَفَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ « كَانَ عَظِيمَ الْهَامَةِ أَبْيَضَ مُشْرَبًا حُمْرَةً عَظِيمَ اللِّحْيَةِ طَوِيلَ الْمَسْرُبَةِ شَثْنَ الْكَفَّيْنِ وَالْقَدَمَيْنِ إِذَا مَشَى كَأَنَّهُ يَمْشِي فِي صَبَبٍ لَمْ أَرَ مِثْلَهُ قَبْلَهُ وَلَا بَعْدَهُ»
ذِكْرُ مَا كَانَ يُسْتَعْمَلُ عِنْدَ مَشْيِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي طُرُقِهِ
"When the Prophet walked, his Companions would walk in front of him, and he would leave his back for the angels." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 246)
«كَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا خَرَجُوا مَعَهُ مَشَوْا أَمَامَهُ وَتَرَكُوا ظَهْرَهُ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ أَسَامِي الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ
I have many names: I am Muhammad, I am Ahmad, I am al-Mahi through whom Allah obliterates unbelief, and I am Hashir (the gatherer) at whose feet people will be gathered, and I am 'Aqib (after whom there would be none), and Allah has named him as compassionate and merciful. أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ لِي أَسْمَاءً أَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ وَأَنَا أَحْمَدُ وَأَنَا الْمَاحِي الَّذِي يَمْحُو اللَّهُ بِيَ الْكُفْرَ وَأَنَا الْحَاشِرُ الَّذِي يُحْشَرُ النَّاسُ عَلَى قَدَمِهِ وَأَنَا الْعَاقِبُ الَّذِي لَيْسَ بَعْدَهُ نَبِيٌّ» وَقَدْ سَمَّاهُ اللَّهُ رَءُوفًا رَحِيمًا
ذِكْرُ خَبَرٍ ثَانٍ يُصَرِّحُ بِصِحَّةِ مَا ذَكَرْنَاهُ
I am Muhammad, Ahmad. Muqaffi (the last in succession), Hashir, the Prophet of repentance, and the Prophet of Mercy. (Using translation from Muslim 2355)
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُسَمِّي لَنَا نَفْسَهُ أَسْمَاءً فَقَالَ «أَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ وَأَحْمَدُ وَالْمُقَفِّي وَالْحَاشِرُ وَنَبِيُّ الرَّحْمَةِ وَنَبِيُّ الْمَلْحَمَةِ»
ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ قَالَ مَا وَصَفْنَا وَهُوَ فِي بَعْضِ سِكَكِ الْمَدِينَةِ
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying on one of the roads of Al-Madinah: "I am Muhammad, I am Ahmad, I am the Gatherer, I am Al-Muqaffi, and I am the Prophet of Mercy."
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ فِي سِكَّةٍ مِنْ سِكَكِ الْمَدِينَةِ «أَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ وَأَحْمَدُ وَالْحَاشِرُ وَالْمُقَفِّي وَنَبِيُّ الرَّحْمَةِ»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ قِرَاءَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ الْقُرْآنَ
‘He used to elongate his voice.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1353)
عَنْ قِرَاءَةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «كَانَ ﷺ يَمُدُّ صَوْتَهُ مَدًّا»
ذِكْرُ الْخَبَرِ الْمُدْحِضِ قَوْلَ مَنْ زَعَمَ أَنَّ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ
[Machine] The reading of the Prophet ﷺ used to start by extending with 'In the name of Allah' and extend with 'The Most Merciful' and extend with 'The Merciful'.
«كَانَتْ قِرَاءَةُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مَدًّا يَمُدُّ بِبِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَيَمُدُّ بِالرَّحْمَنِ وَيَمُدُّ بِالرَّحِيمِ»
ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ كَانَ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ النَّاسِ قِرَاءَةً إِذَا قَرَأَ
[Machine] "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reciting, and I have never heard anything better recitation than his."
«سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقْرَأُ فَمَا سَمِعْتُ شَيْئًا قَطُّ أَحْسَنَ قِرَاءَةً مِنْهُ»
ذِكْرُ الْإِخْبَارِ عَنْ قِرَاءَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ عَلَى الْجِنِّ الْقُرْآنَ
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "On this night, I recite to the jinn, the kind companions of the darkness."
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «بِتُّ اللَّيْلَةَ أَقْرَأُ عَلَى الْجِنِّ رُفَقَاءَ بِالْحَجُونِ»
ذِكْرُ مَا أَبَانَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلَا فَضِيلَةَ صَفِيِّهِ ﷺ بِقِرَاءَتِهِ عَلَى الْجِنِّ الْقُرْآنَ
[Machine] I asked Ibn Mas'ood, "Did anyone from amongst you accompany the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the night of the jinn?" He responded, "None of us accompanied him, but we lost him one night in Makkah. We suspected that he was assassinated or taken away by the jinn. We spent the night in great distress and fear. When it was morning or at the time of dawn, we found him coming towards us from the direction of Hira. We informed him about what happened and he ﷺ said, 'Indeed, a caller from the jinn came to me, so I went to them and recited upon them.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then went with us and showed us the traces of their presence and the marks of their fires."
قُلْتُ لِابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ هَلْ صَحِبَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ الْجِنِّ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ؟ فَقَالَ مَا صَحِبَهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ وَلَكِنَّا فَقَدْنَاهُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ بِمَكَّةَ فَقُلْنَا اغْتِيلَ أَوِ اسْتُطِيرَ فَبِتْنَا بِشَرِّ لَيْلَةٍ بَاتَ بِهَا قَوْمٌ فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ السَّحَرِ أَوْ قَالَ فِي الصُّبْحِ إِذَا نَحْنُ بِهِ يَجِيءُ مِنْ قِبَلِ حِرَاءَ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَذَكَرْنَا لَهُ الَّذِي كَانُوا فِيهِ فَقَالَ ﷺ «إِنَّهُ أَتَانِي دَاعِيَ الْجِنِّ فَأَتَيْتُهُمْ فَقَرَأْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ» فَانْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَرَانَا آثَارَهُمْ وَآثَارَ نِيرَانِهِمْ
ذِكْرُ إِنْذَارِ الشَّجَرَةِ لِلْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ بِالْجِنِّ لَيْلَتَئِذٍ
[Machine] "That the tree warned the Prophet ﷺ of the jinn on the night of the jinn."
«أَنَّ الشَّجَرَةَ أَنْذَرَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بِالْجِنِّ لَيْلَةَ الْجِنِّ»
ذِكْرُ قِرَاءَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ {وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى}
The Prophet ﷺ read the Qur'anic verse, "And take ye the Station of Abraham as a place of prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3969)
«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَرَأَ {وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى} »
ذِكْرُ قِرَاءَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ {حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى}
[Machine] He used to transcribe the Qur'an during the time of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ . Hafsah wrote down a copy for me and said, "When you reach this verse from Surah Al-Baqarah, do not write it until you come to me with it. I will dictate it to you as I learned it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." So when I reached that verse, I came to her with the paper on which I had written it. She said, "Write 'Guard the prayers and the middle prayer' and 'And stand before Allah in obedience'" (Quran 2:238).
أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَكْ تُبُ الْمَصَاحِفَ فِي عَهْدِ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ فَاسْتَكْتَبَتْنِي حَفْصَةُ مُصْحَفًا وَقَالَتْ «إِذَا بَلَغْتَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ مِنْ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ فَلَا تَكْتُبْهَا حَتَّى تَأْتِيَنِي بِهَا فَأُمِلَّهَا عَلَيْكَ كَمَا حَفِظْتُهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ» قَالَ فَلَمَّا بَلَغْتُهَا جِئْتُهَا بِالْوَرَقَةِ الَّتِي أَكْتُبُهَا فَقَالَتِ «اكْتُبْ {حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى} وَصَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ {وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ} »
ذِكْرُ قِرَاءَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ {يُثَبِّتُ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِالْقَوْلِ الثَّابِتِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ}
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "When a believer testifies that there is no god but Allah and recognizes Muhammad ﷺ in his grave, then that is Allah's statement: 'Allah will establish those who believe with the firm statement in the worldly life and in the Hereafter.'"
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «الْمُؤْمِنُ إِذَا شَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَعَرَفَ مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ فِي قَبْرِهِ فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ {يُثَبِّتُ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِالْقَوْلِ الثَّابِتِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ} »
ذِكْرُ قِرَاءَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ {لَوْ شِئْتَ لَاتَّخَذْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا}
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "(If you wanted, you could have taken a reward for it) in a reduced form."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ «(لَوْ شِئْتَ لَتَخِذْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا) مُخَفَّفَةً»
ذِكْرُ قِرَاءَةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ {إِنْ سَأَلْتُكَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدَهَا فَلَا تُصَاحِبْنِي}
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "If I ask you about something after this, then do not accompany me. I asked you a question from Hamez, and you have reached me an excuse from (the Divine) presence."
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «{إِنْ سَأَلْتُكَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدَهَا فَلَا تُصَاحِبْنِي} سَأَلْتُكَ هَمَزَ {قَدْ بَلَغْتَ مِنْ لَدُنِّي عُذْرًا} »
ذِكْرُ قِرَاءَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ {فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ}
[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ used to recite "Is there anyone to remember?"
«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ {فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ} »
ذِكْرُ خَبَرٍ ثَانٍ يُصَرِّحْ بِصِحَّةِ مَا ذَكَرْنَاهُ
[Machine] I heard Abdullah bin Mas'ud say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited {Is there any that will receive admonition?} [Surah Al-Qamar, 54:17] mentioning the letter 'Dal'."
سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ يَقُولُ «قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ {فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ} دَالًا»
ذِكْرُ قِرَاءَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ «إِنِّي أَنَا الرَّزَّاقُ ذُو الْقُوَّةِ الْمَتِينُ»
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made me read the verse "It is I who give (all) sustenance, Lord of power, steadfast (for ever). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3993)
«أَقْرَأَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ » إِنِّي أَنَا الرَّزَّاقُ ذُو الْقُوَّةِ الْمَتِينُ «
ذِكْرُ قِرَاءَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ {وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَى وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّى}
[Machine] I arrived in Sham and Abu Darda was informed about it. He came to us and said, "Which one of you recites the recitation of Ibn Umm 'Abd?" We all said, "We all recite." He asked, "Which one of you recites the best?" He pointed to me with his companions and Abu Darda said, "Did you memorize it?" I said, "Yes." He asked, "How does it recite "By the night when it covers"? I said, "By the night when it covers and by the day when it appears and by the male and the female." He said, "Did you learn it from Abdullah?" I said, "Yes." He said, "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, this is how I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and these people, by Allah, want me to stop following them forever."
قَدِمْتُ الشَّامَ فَأُخْبِرَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ فَأَتَانَا فَقَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ يَقْرَأُ عَلَيَّ قِرَاءَةَ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ؟ » قَالَ قُلْنَا كُلُّنَا نَقْرَأُ قَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ أَقْرَأُ؟ » قَالَ فَأَشَارَ أَصْحَابِي إِلَيَّ قَالَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ «أَحَفِظْتَ؟ » قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «كَيْفَ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ {وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَى} ؟ » قُلْتُ وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَى وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّى وَالذَّكَرِ وَالْأُنْثَى فَقَالَ «أَنْتَ حَفِظْتُهَا مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ؟ » قَالَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «وَأَنَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهَؤُلَاءِ يُرِيدُونَ وَاللَّهِ لَا أُتَابِعُهُمْ أَبَدًا»
ذِكْرُ الْخَبَرِ الْمُدْحِضِ قَوْلَ مَنْ زَعَمَ أَنَّ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ إِبْرَاهِيمُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ
[Machine] I heard Ibrahim say that Alqamah went to Damascus. He came to the mosque and prayed two units of prayer, then said, "O Allah, grant me a righteous companion." He sat next to Abu Darda and asked, "Who are you?" Abu Darda said, "I am from the people of Kufa." Alqamah asked, "Do you not have the companion of the secret who no one else knew except Hudhaifah?" Alqamah continued, "Do you not have the one whom Allah entrusted with protection from the devil through the tongue of His Prophet ﷺ , Ammar ibn Yasir?" And do you not have the companion of the blackness, Abdullah ibn Mas'ud?" Then Alqamah asked, "How do you read this verse, 'And [by] the night when it covers and [by] the day when it appears'?" Abu Darda replied, "I said, 'And [by] the male and female.' He said, 'These people continued to doubt me, even though I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .'"
سَمِعْتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ يَقُولُ ذَهَبَ عَلْقَمَةُ إِلَى الشَّامِ فَأَتَى الْمَسْجِدَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي جَلِيسًا صَالِحًا فَقَعَدَ إِلَى أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ فَقَالَ «مِمَّنْ أَنْتَ؟ » قَالَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ قَالَ «أَلَيْسَ فِيكُمْ صَاحِبُ السِّرِّ الَّذِي كَانَ لَا يَعْلَمُهُ غَيْرُهُ حُذَيْفَةُ؟ » أَلَيْسَ فِيكُمُ الَّذِي أَجَارَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّهِ ﷺ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ؟ أَلَيْسَ فِيكُمْ صَاحِبُ السَّوَادِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ؟ وَقَالَ كَيْفَ تَقْرَأُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَى وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّى} فَقُلْتُ وَالذَّكَرِ وَالْأُنْثَى قَالَ «فَمَا زَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ كَادُوا يُشَكِّكُونِي وَقَدْ سَمِعْتُهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ»
ذِكْرُ قِرَاءَةِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ {يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُ أَخْلَدَهُ}
I saw the Prophet ﷺ reading the verse; "does he think that his wealth would make him last for ever?" (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3995)
«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَرَأَ {يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُ أَخْلَدَهُ} »
ذِكْرُ اصْطِفَاءِ اللَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا صَفِيَّهُ ﷺ مِنْ بَيْنِ وَلَدِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, Allah chose Kinanah from the children of Isma'il, and He chose Quraish from Kinanah, and He chose Hashim from Quraish, and He chose me from Banu Hashim." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3606)
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَى كِنَانَةَ مِنْ وَلَدِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَاصْطَفَى مِنْ كِنَانَةَ قُرَيْشًا وَاصْطَفَى مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ وَاصْطَفَانِي مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ»
