1. Purification (5/28)
I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performing ablution as you saw me perform ablution. He then reported the tradition like that of al-Zuhrl and completed it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 109)
[Machine] If one of you wakes up from sleep, he should pour water on his hands before putting them in the vessel. Then Qais Al-Ashja'i asked: "What should we do with this mihras of yours?" Abu Hurayrah replied: "I seek refuge in Allah from your evil. Abu 'Ubaid said: Al-Asma'i said: The mihras is a carved, rectangular stone, enormous like a basin, from which people perform ablution. None of you can move it."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When one of you wakes up from sleep, he should not put his hand in the container until he washes his hand, as he does not know where his hand has spent the night. Sulayman said that he mentioned this to Ibrahim, who replied that the companions of Abdullah said, "How does Abu Huraira use the utensil?" Sulayman said that they did not see any harm in using it if it is clean. And Shafi'i relied on the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas narrated from the Prophet ﷺ about leaving ablution during eating after leaving the toilet, and it has already been mentioned. The Sheikh said that our companions relied on the hadith of Rifa'a ibn Rafi' narrated from the Prophet ﷺ , and it has already been mentioned.
1.47 [Machine] Inserting the right hand into the vessel and inhaling and gargling in the rooms
[Machine] I saw Uthman perform ablution (wudu) and he poured water from a container onto his hands, washing them three times. Then he put his right hand into the water and rinsed his mouth and nose. After that, he washed his face three times and washed his hands up to the elbows. He then wiped his head and washed his right foot three times, followed by his left foot three times. He said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution similar to my ablution. Whoever performs ablution like this and then prays two units (rak'ahs) of prayer without letting his mind wander, all his previous sins will be forgiven." Abu Al-Hasan bin Abdul Dan narrated to us, who was informed by Ahmad bin Ubayd Al-Saffar, who was narrated by Ubayd bin Abdul Wahid and Ahmad bin Ibrahim bin Malhan, who said it was narrated by Yahya, who mentioned its meaning and added that the washing of the foot extended up to the ankles. Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz narrated to us, who was informed by Muhammad bin Al-Fadl Al-Muzakki, who was me, Muhammad bin Hamdoon, who was informed by Imran bin Bakkara, who was informed by Abu Al-Yaman, who was me, Shuayb bin Abi Hamza, who was informed by Al-Zuhri, who was informed by Ata bin Yazid, who mentioned it with its meaning. He said, "Then he put his right hand into the water, rinsed his mouth, and rinsed his nose."

I saw ʿUthman bin ʿAffan ؓ do wudooʿ, He poured water onto his hands three times and washed them, then he rinsed his mouth and nose, then he washed his face three times, then he washed his right arm up to the elbow three times, then the left arm likewise, then he wiped his head, then he washed his right foot three times, then the left foot likewise. He said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do wudooʿ similar to what I just did, then he said: “Whoever does wudooʿ as I just did, then prays two rak’ahs without letting his mind wander, his previous sins will be forgiven” (Using translation from Aḥmad 421)

[Machine] "He then immersed his hand in the vessel, so he entered his right hand into the vessel and filled his mouth. He rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nose, and blew it out with his left hand. He repeated this three times. Then he put his hand back into the vessel and washed his face three times. Afterwards, he washed his right hand three times up to the elbow, then washed his left hand three times up to the elbow. He then put his right hand back into the vessel until the water covered it, and he raised it with the water it held. Then he wiped his head with his left hand, and wiped both of his hands on each other once. Then he poured water onto his right foot three times, then washed it with his left hand. He poured water onto his left foot three times, then washed it with his left hand. Then he said, 'This is the purification of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . So whoever wishes to see the purification of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , this is his purification.'"
Note: The phrase " ﷺ " ﷺ is a customary prayer said after mentioning the names of prophets in Islam.
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who said: "When one of you performs ablution, let them sniff water through their nostrils, and then let them blow it out."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When one of you performs Wudu, let him put water in his nose and then blow it out, and whoever does Istinja should do it properly."

[Machine] And he said in the end, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day performing ablution similar to my ablution.
[Machine] Regarding ablution, he called for water and a vessel was brought to him. He poured water onto his right hand and washed his mouth thrice and sniffed water into his nostrils thrice. Then he said the supplication. At the end, he said, "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution." The Sheikh also narrated this hadith, and it was also narrated by Abu Alqamah from Uthman, and it was confirmed by Abdullah ibn Zaid from the Prophet ﷺ . It was also narrated from Ali ibn Abi Talib from the Prophet ﷺ .
[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who said: "When one of you wakes up from sleep, let him perform ablution and then sprinkle water three times, for indeed, the devil spends the night on the inside of one's nostrils."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "If one of you gargles and sniffs water up his nose, let him do it two or three times, fully."

[Machine] "It was narrated that he came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned some things, so the Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'Perform a perfect ablution, clean between your fingers, and when you sniff water into your nose, do it thoroughly, unless you are fasting.'"
1.51 [Machine] Combining the mouthwash with the nasal rinse
[Machine] We asked him to perform ablution for us, the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . So he called for water and poured it upon his hands, washing them three times. Then he inserted his hand and pulled them out, rinsing his mouth and sniffing water through his nose from one handful of water, doing this three times. Then he washed his face three times, and washed his hands up to the elbows twice, each time. Then he put his hand and wiped his head, and brought his hand forward and wiped the back of his head once, then he washed his feet up to the ankles. Then he said, "This is how the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was."
[Machine] About the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he called for a container of water and performed ablution for them. He poured water on his hands three times from the container, then washed his hands. He then put his hand into the container, rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nose, and blew it out three times from three handfuls of water. He then put his hand into the container, washed his face three times. He then put his hand into the container, washed his arms up to the elbows, two times each. He then put his hand into the container, wiped his head, and then passed his hand over his feet, up to the ankles.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ performed ablution, rinsing and inhaling water separately.
[Machine] Then he gargled and rinsed three times, and he scattered water from the hand from which he took it, and he mentioned the statement and said at the end: "Whoever is pleased to know the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , this is it."
[Machine] "That Ali was brought a chair, so he sat on it. Then he was brought a container of water, so he washed his hands three times. Then he rinsed his mouth and nostrils with one handful of water. He washed his face three times with one hand, and washed his arms three times. He put his hand in the container, then wiped his head with it. He then wiped his head and face with both hands, and I do not know if he wiped them forwards or backwards. He washed his feet three times, then he said, 'Whoever wants to see the purification of the Prophet, ﷺ , should look at this purification of his, ﷺ .'"
1.52 [Machine] The distinction between gargling and inhaling
[Machine] I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ while he was performing ablution and water was flowing from his face and beard onto his chest. I saw him rinsing between gargling and sniffing water into his nose. Abu Dawud mentioned in another hadith from Al-Laith ibn Abi Sulaim from Talhah ibn Musarif from his father from his grandfather about ablution. Musaddad reported this to Yahya, meaning Al-Qattan, and he disapproved of it. Abu Dawud said, "I heard Ahmad say that Ibn 'Uyaynah disapproved of it and said, 'What is this? Talhah ibn Musarif from his father and his grandfather?' And Abu 'Abdullah Al-Hafith informed us, and Abu Al-Hasan Ahmad ibn Muhammad Al-Tarayfi informed us, saying, 'I heard 'Uthman ibn Sa'id Al-Darimi saying, 'I heard 'Ali ibn 'Abdullah Al-Madinī saying, I said to Sufyan, "Laith reported from Talhah ibn Musarif from his father from his grandfather that he saw the Prophet ﷺ performing ablution, and Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah disapproved of it." 'Ali said, "I asked 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi about the genealogy of Talhah's grandfather, and he said, "Umru ibn Ka'b or Ka'b ibn 'Amr, and he had companions who testified to his character." And Abu 'Abdullah Al-Hafith informed us, and Abu Al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub reported to us, and 'Abbas ibn Muhammad Al-Duri said, "I said to Yahya ibn Ma'in, 'Did the Prophet ﷺ see his grandfather?' And Yahya said, 'The narrators say that he did, and the family of Talhah says that he did not have companionship.'"

1.53 [Machine] Confirmation of gargling and nasal rinsing.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever performs ablution should sprinkle water, and whoever performs Istinja' (cleansing after using the bathroom) should perform Wudhu (ablution)." This is a narration of Ibn Al-Mubarak, and Hassan added in his narration from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri, and they both mentioned it from the Prophet ﷺ .
[Machine] He came to Aisha along with his companion to seek the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , but they did not find him. So Aisha fed them dates and porridge. It was not long before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came wearing a lower garment and a headcloth, and he said, "Did anyone feed you?" I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." Then I said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell us about prayer." He said, "Perform the ablution thoroughly, move your fingers, and when you rinse your nose, do it thoroughly unless you are fasting."
“If you perform ablution, then rinse your mouth.” (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 144)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ commanded the practice of gargling and sniffing water into the nose. He said it on another occasion as well. This narration was not mentioned by Abu Hurairah. The scholar said in this hadith, I think it is a fabricated addition, reported by someone once and then connected to it in another narration. Dawud ibn al-Muhabbir narrated it from Hammad regarding its connection, and others reported it as a connected hadith. This is also mentioned to me by Abu Bakr al-Faqih from Abu Al-Hasan al-Daraqutni. The scholar disagreed with them, and Ibrahim ibn Sulaiman al-Khallal, a teacher of Ya'qub ibn Sufyan, said from Hammad from Ammar from Ibn Abbas, and both of them are not reliable narrators.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Gargling and sniffing water into the nose are essential parts of ablution that cannot be skipped." Al-Shaykh reported it and Isma'il ibn Bishr al-Balkhi narrated from 'Isam (ibn Yusuf al-Balkhi) something similar to that, except that he said, "Required part of ablution that the prayer cannot be completed without it." Abu Bakr al-Faqih informed us, "I am 'Ali ibn 'Umar Al-Hafiz, and 'Isam narrated it as something specific and there was some confusion about it. The correct narration is from Ibn Juraij from Sulayman ibn Musa who transmitted it from the Prophet ﷺ, 'Whoever performs ablution should gargle and sniff water into the nose.'"

1.54 [Machine] The Sunnah of gargling and sniffing water and that they are not obligatory, as stated by Al-Hasan, Ata', Al-Zuhri, Qatadah, Rabiah, and Yahya bin Sa'id Al-Ansari
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Ten are the acts according to fitrah (nature): clipping the moustache, letting the beard grow, using the tooth-stick, cleansing the nose (Al-Istinshaq) with water, cutting the nails, washing the finger joints, plucking the hair under the arm-pits, shaving the pubes, and cleansing one's private parts (after easing or urinating) with water. The narrator said: I have forgotten the tenth, but it may have been rinsing the mouth. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 53)
[Machine] "Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ said: ten things are part of instinctive hygiene: rinsing the mouth, inhaling water into the nostrils, using the tooth stick (Miswak), trimming the mustache, cutting the nails, removing underarm hair, shaving the pubic hair, washing the joints, performing ablution with water, and circumcision."
1.55 [Machine] Washing the face
Ibn ʿAbbas performed ablution and washed his face (in the following way): He ladled out a handful of water, rinsed his mouth and washed his nose with it by putting in water and then blowing it out. He then, took another handful (of water) and did like this (gesturing) joining both hands, and washed his face, took another handful of water and washed his right forearm. He again took another handful of water and washed his left forearm, and passed wet hands over his head and took another handful of water and poured it over his right foot (up to his ankles) and washed it thoroughly and similarly took another handful of water and washed thoroughly his left foot (up to the ankles) and said, "I saw Messenger of Allah ﷺ performing ablution in this way." (Using translation from Bukhārī 140)
1.56 [Machine] Repetition in face cleansing
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "Whoever performs ablution like my ablution, then prays two units of prayer without letting any worldly thoughts distract him, all his previous sins will be forgiven."
[Machine] Ali entered upon me, and he had spilled water, so he called for wudu. We brought him a basin filled with water and placed it in front of him. He then said, "O Ibn Abbas, shall I show you how the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to perform wudu?" I said, "Yes." He then poured water over his hands, washed them, and then put his right hand into the basin and poured water over his left hand. He then washed his hands, rinsed his mouth, and sniffed water into his nose. After that, he put his hand into the basin and scooped a handful of water, then struck it on his face. He then wiped his right thumb over the front part of his ears, then the left one, and then the third time, repeating the same action. He then grabbed a fistful of water with his right hand and poured it onto the base of his head, letting it flow and remain on his face. And he mentioned the rest of the narration.

[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do what you saw me do. Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari informed me that he was asked about this hadeeth and he said, "It is good." He also said, "The best thing I have in Takhleet is the hadeeth of Uthman."
Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution, he took a handful of water, and, putting it under his chin, made it go through his beard, saying: Thus did my Lord command me. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 145)

We were informed about the method of rinsing the beard from 'Ammar ibn Yasir, Aisha, and Umm Salamah, from the Prophet ﷺ . We were also informed about the permissibility of leaving it (without rinsing) from Ibn Umar and Hasan ibn Ali. And we were informed about it from An-Nakha'i and a group of the followers of the Prophet ﷺ ."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to rinse his mouth with water and then he would rinse his nose by putting water in it and blowing it out. Abdel Wahid bin Qais reported this, and there was disagreement about his reliability. Yahya bin Ma'een and his father Yahya bin Saeed al-Qattan considered him trustworthy, as did Muhammad bin Ismail al-Bukhari. Abu Bakr al-Faqih reported to us that Abu al-Hasan al-Daraqutni said that Ibn Abi Hatim reported from his father that Al-Walid reported from Al-Awza'i who reported from Abdel Wahid who reported from Yazid al-Raqashi and Qatadah, who said: The Prophet, ﷺ , was sending and he was the most similar to the correct opinion. Abu al-Hasan also reported it, and Abu al-Mughira reported it from Al-Awza'i in a connected chain to Ibn Umar, which is the correct opinion. We were informed by Abu Bakr that Abu al-Hasan reported to us, that Ismail bin Muhammad al-Saffar reported to us, that Ibrahim bin Hanee reported to us, that Abu al-Mughira reported to us, that Al-Awza'i narrated to us, that Abdel Wahid bin Qais narrated to us, from Yazid al-Raqashi, who reported from the Prophet, ﷺ , something similar to this.
[Machine] That Ibn Umar, when he performed ablution, used to rub his arms and sometimes comb his beard with his fingers and sometimes leave it.

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Wudu', and he scooped up one handful (of water) and rinsed his mouth and nose. Then he scooped up another handful and washed his face. Then he scooped up another handful and washed his right hand, then another handful and washed his left hand. Then he wiped his head and his ears, the inside with his forefinger and the outside with his thumb. Then he scooped up a handful of water and washed his right foot, and scooped up another handful and washed his left foot." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 102)
1.60 [Machine] Repetition in washing hands.
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pour water on his elbow.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to wipe his elbows when performing ablution.
1.61 [Machine] The desirability of passing water over the shoulder.
[Machine] I was behind Abu Huraira while he was performing ablution for prayer. He would extend his hand until he reached his armpit. I said to him, "O Abu Huraira, what kind of ablution is this?" He said to me, "O son of the bird, are you here? If I had known that you were here, I would not have performed this ablution." I heard my beloved ﷺ saying, "The adornment of a believer reaches where the ablution reaches."
[Machine] He said: "One day, I was with Abu Hurayrah on the back of the mosque. He was wearing pants under his shirt, so he took off his pants, then he performed ablution. He washed his face and hands, then he raised the water to his shoulders and washed his feet. He raised the water to his knees and washed his legs. Then he said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , saying: 'On the Day of Resurrection, my Ummah will come with radiant foreheads and limbs shining from the effect of ablution. So whoever among you can extend his radiance, let him do so.'"
1.62 [Machine] Moving the ring on the finger while washing the hands
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to move his ring when performing ablution. Abu Ahmad said, "I heard Ibn Hammad saying that Al-Bukhari, Ma'mar ibn Muhammad ibn 'Ubaidullah ibn Abi Rafi', was denounced in hadith. The sheikh relied on this issue on the evidence from Ali and others."
[Machine] I performed ablution for Ali, and whenever he would perform ablution, he would move his ring.
[Machine] I saw Ibn Umar, when he performed ablution, he moved his ring.
1.63 [Machine] Wiping the head
[Machine] I saw Uthman bin Affan perform ablution (wudu'). He poured water three times over his hands, then washed them. Then he rinsed his mouth and nose, then washed his face three times. Then he washed his right arm up to the elbow three times, followed by his left arm the same way. Then he wiped his head, then washed his right foot three times, followed by his left foot the same way. Then he said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution similar to my ablution, then he said, 'Whoever performs ablution like my ablution, then prays two Rak'ahs, without talking to himself in them, his previous sins will be forgiven."
[Machine] In it, then he inserted his right hand into the container until the water covered it, then he raised it with the water it contained, then he wiped it with his left hand, then he wiped his head with both hands once, and he mentioned the hadith, and at the end of it, "So whoever likes to look at the purity of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, this is his purity."
he wiped his head so much so that drops (of water) were about to trickle down. He then washed his feet three times and said: This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablutions. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 114)
[Machine] To show you how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution (wudu), he called for a container with water and mentioned the supplication while doing so. Then, he cupped his hand and poured a handful of water, rinsed his mouth, and cleansed his nose.
1.64 [Machine] Wiping Some of the Head
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed his natural call of nature, and when he finished, he asked, "Do you have water with you?" So I brought a container to him, and he washed his hands and face with it. Then, he tried to remove the sleeves of his garment, but they were tight for him. So, he pulled his hands out from under the garment and threw the garment over his shoulders. Then, he washed his arms, wiped his forehead, and passed his hands over his turban and his feet. And he mentioned the rest of the Hadith.
