1. Purification (10/28)
[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ went to visit a group of people, and I happened to be standing nearby. I moved away from him but he said, "Come closer." So, I approached him and then he performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks, according to the authentic Hadith mentioned in Sahihain from the narration of Al-A'mash.
The Prophet ﷺ and I walked till we reached the dumps of some people. He stood, as any one of you stands, behind a wall and urinated. I went away, but he beckoned me to come. So I approached him and stood near his back till he finished. (Using translation from Bukhārī 225)
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to a certain people called Subaita, and he became ill while standing. So, I met Mansur (a person) and asked him to tell me what Abu Wail narrated from Hudhaifah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to a certain people called Subaita, and he became ill while standing, like this.
[Machine] It is said that the Prophet ﷺ urinated while standing with a wound on his foot. The imam, may Allah have mercy on him, said that it was previously known that the Arabs would use urine to treat a pain in the joints, so perhaps the Prophet did so at that time due to the pain in his foot. Ash-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, mentioned this incident in a similar manner. It is also said that the Prophet did so because he could not find a place or a spot to sit, and Allah knows best.
1.121 [Machine] Sitting Urination
[Machine] I and Amr ibn Al-As were sitting when the Messenger of Allah came out to us carrying a stick. He stumbled while he was sitting and we talked between ourselves, saying: he urinates like a woman. He came to us and said: "Do you know what the companion of Bani Israel went through? When they were afflicted by urine, they would cut it off, so they were forbidden to do so. But, they continued doing it and were punished in their graves. Then, Ibn Uyyinah and others added to it, so he concealed it with it, and he stumbled while he was sitting."
[Machine] What is wrong with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as he stands since the Qur'an was revealed to him. In another narration by Al-Husayn ibn Hafs, it is mentioned that the Surah Al-Furqan is also known as the Qur'an or Al-Furqan.
[Machine] I heard Aisha swearing by Allah that she never saw anyone, including the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , urinating while standing since the Qur'an was revealed to him.
[Machine] Umar said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw me urinating while standing, so he said, 'O Umar, do not urinate while standing. I have not urinated while standing after 'Abdul-Karim. This is the son of Abu Al-Mukhariq.'"
[Machine] About Umar, Ali, Sahl ibn Saad, and Anas ibn Malik.
[Machine] Umar said, "Urination while standing is more hygienic for the anus."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade men from urinating while standing. We were informed by Abu Sa'd al-Malini, who narrated it from Abu Ahmad ibn 'Adi, who narrated it from Ibn Sa'id, who narrated it from Muhammad ibn Abdullah Al-Mukharrimi and Abu Al-Fadl Al-Khirqi. They said: Abu 'Amir Al-Aqadi told us, who narrated it from 'Adi ibn Al-Fadl, who mentioned it.
1.122 [Machine] The obligation of istinja with three stones
"I am like a father teaching you. When any one of you goes to Al-Khala' (the toilet), let him not face toward the Qiblah nor turn his back toward it, and let him not clean himself with his right hand." And he used to tell them to use three stones, and he forbade using dung or old bones. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 40)
[Machine] About throwing pebbles and sprouting crops, and he commanded with three stones.
[Machine] They said to Salman, "Did your Prophet ﷺ teach you everything, even how to clean yourselves after using the bathroom?" He replied, "Yes, indeed. He forbade us from facing the qibla (direction of prayer) while defecating or urinating. He also prohibited us from performing istinja (cleansing after using the bathroom) with less than three stones. And he forbade us from using dung or bones for istinja."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When any of you goes to relieve himself, he should take with him three stones to cleans himself, for they will be enough for him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 40)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about Istihāba (the state when a discharge of semen occurs without desire) and he said: "It is with three stones that do not have any trace of impurity." Abu Dawood said: "This is how it was narrated."
"The Messenger of Allah went to the toilet and said: 'Bring me three stones.' So I brought him two stones and a piece of dung. He took the two stones and threw the dung away, saying: 'It is impure.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 314)
1.123 [Machine] The Benefit of Stretching
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever performs ablution, let them sprinkle water, and whoever performs istinja, let them use water for cleaning themselves."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If one of you intends to perform I'tikaf (spiritual seclusion in a mosque), then he should do so for three days. In this, there is an indication that he orders seeking spiritual seclusion in odd numbers, and the most virtuous odd number is the number one."
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "Whoever wishes to perform I'tikaf, let him do so. And whoever does this, has done well. And whoever does not, there is no harm upon him. And this is if it is authentic, for Allah knows best, and the Witr prayer is performed after the three Rak'ahs."
[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ said: 'When one of you performs ablution, let him perform an odd number of units of prayer (Tahajjud), for indeed Allah is odd and He loves odd numbers. Have you not seen that there are seven heavens and seven earths, and the circumambulation (Tawaf) around the Kaaba, and the mention of things?"
1.124 [Machine] Avoiding Urinary Incontinence
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ happened to pass by two graves and said: They (their occupants) are being tormented, but they are not tormented for a grievous sin. One of them carried tales and the other did not keep himself safe from being defiled by urine. He then called for a fresh twig and split it into two parts, and planted them on each grave and then said: Perhaps, their punishment way be mitigated as long as these twigs remain fresh. (Using translation from Muslim 292a)
[Machine] I and Amr ibn al-Aas went out and the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , came out with a container of water or something like it, and he sat down and covered himself with it. While he was sitting, he started urinating. So, I said to my companion, "Look at the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , how he urinates like a woman while sitting?" So, the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , came to us and said, "Do you not know what happened to the people of Bani Israel when one of them had some urine drops on him? He was struck with a punishment in his grave."
1.125 [Machine] Using water for istinja
[Machine] I heard Anas saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to go to the bathroom and I would follow him along with a young boy from the Ansar, carrying a container of water, so he would clean himself with it after defecating. This narration is found in Sahihayn (i.e. Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim) from the hadith of Shu'bah ibn al-Hajjaj.
The Prophet ﷺ said: The following verse was revealed in connection with the people of Quba': "In it are men who love to be purified" (ix.108). He (AbuHurayrah) said: They used to cleanse themselves with water after easing. So the verse was revealed in connection with them. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 44)
[Machine] When this verse was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a message to Uwaim bin Sa'idah and said, "What is this purification that Allah has praised you for?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah, no man or woman among us goes to the bathroom without washing their backside, or he said, their private parts." The Prophet ﷺ said, "This is the practice of Hudaifah bin Al-Yaman as narrated from him, and it is also the Sunnah (tradition) of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, that a woman washes her private parts before intercourse."
1.126 [Machine] Combining wiping with stones and washing with water in Istinja
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Ansar! Allah has praised you for your goodness in purification. So what is your method of purification?' They replied: 'O Messenger of Allah, we perform ablution for prayer and we wash ourselves from impurity.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Is there anything else besides that?' They said: 'No, except that when one of us comes out of the lavatory, he prefers to cleanse himself with water.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'That is what you should do.'"
[Machine] "To wash away the traces of excrement and urine from them, for I feel shy towards them, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do it 515 times. Abu Al-Hasan Ali bin Ahmad bin Umar Al-Muqri' Al-Baghdadi narrated to us, saying: I am Ahmad bin Salman Al-Faqih, Ja'far bin Muhammad bin Shakir narrated to us, saying: Affan narrated to us, saying: Hammam and Abu Awanah narrated to us, saying: Qatadah mentioned it in its meaning, and Abu Qilabah and others narrated it from Muadhah Al-Adawiyyah, but it is not attributed to the Prophet's ﷺ action, and Qatadah is a memorizer."
[Machine] "And Murna said to your wives about that, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do it. He said, and she said, it is a remedy for hemorrhoids. Imam Ahmad, may Allah have mercy on him, said, this is a mursal (disconnected) narration from Abu 'Ammaar Shaddaad, whom I do not see as someone who was contemporaneous with Aisha."
[Machine] This is not from the old story of Abd al-Malik, for Abd al-Malik narrates from the youth.
[Machine] Ali said, "Indeed, we used to graze livestock in the past, and today you are trampling it (the grass) flat."
[Machine] I have seen myself as the seventh of seven with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and we had no food except for leaves of the tree bark or the fiber of date-palm, as Shu'bah narrated. One of us would place it on his abdomen just as a sheep does, and then the Banu Asad tribe began to look down upon me because of my Islam. I have indeed lost then, and my effort has gone astray. Ibn 'Uyaynah narrated it as, "except for leaves of the tree or the fiber of date-palm, and one of us would place it on his abdomen just as a sheep does, while his wealth is mixed with that." The rest is similar in meaning.

1.127 [Machine] Rubbing the hands on the ground after using the bathroom.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to bring water in a container or pitcher when he entered the restroom. He would perform istinja (cleaning oneself after answering the call of nature), then he would wipe his hand on the ground. Then he would bring another vessel and perform ablution (washing the body parts for prayer). Abu Dawood said: This is the complete narration of Aswad ibn 'Amir.
[Machine] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with ablution, and he performed istinja, then poured water from his hand onto the ground. Then he performed ablution and wiped over his socks. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, your feet?" He said, "I entered them pure in this way."
[Machine] The Prophet of Allah ﷺ asked me to bring him ablution water, so I brought it to him. He performed istinja with water, then he put his hand into the soil, wiped it, and then washed it. After that, he performed ablution and wiped over his socks. I said, "You performed ablution but did not wash your feet?" He replied, "I wiped them and they were already clean."

1.128 [Machine] Performing Istinja with an Alternative to Using Stones for Cleansing without Violating Prohibitions
[Machine] Abu Huraira used to follow the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to take care of his ablution and needs. One day, he caught up with the Prophet and asked, "Who is this?" Abu Huraira replied, "I am Abu Huraira". The Prophet said, "Give me some stones so I can clean myself, but do not bring me bones or dung". So, I brought him stones in my garment and placed them next to him. When he finished, he got up and I followed him. I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what about the bones and dung?" He replied, "A delegation of two tribes came to me and asked for provisions. I supplicated to Allah for them that they should not pass by any bones or dung without finding food on them". This was reported to us by Abu Hazim al-Abdawi al-Hafiz, Muhammad bin al-Hasan bin Ismail al-Muqri, Abu al-Abbas Muhammad bin Hayyan al-Mazini from Basrah, who narrated from Abdullah bin Abdul Wahhab al-Hajabi, who narrated from Amr bin Yahya, from his grandfather Sa'id bin Amr, from Abu Huraira. Abu Huraira said, "I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ carrying his water tools, and I caught up with him when he wanted to relieve himself. So, I reminded him of it indirectly".
[Machine] He heard Abdullah say, "The Prophet ﷺ went to relieve himself, and he ordered me to bring him three stones." He said, "So I found two stones and searched for the third but couldn't find it. So I took a piece of dung and brought it to the Prophet ﷺ . He took the two stones and threw the dung away, saying, 'This is impure.'"
[Machine] I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for his need, and he said: "Bring me something to perform Istinja with, and do not obstruct me or go back." And this narration, if it is authentic, strengthens the narration of Abu Ishaq from Abdul Rahman ibn Al-Aswad, except that Laith ibn Abi Sulaim is weak.

[Machine] I asked Alqamah, "Was Ibn Masood with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Night of the Jinn?" Alqamah said, "I asked Ibn Masood and said, 'Did anyone of you witness the Night of the Jinn with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' He said, 'No, but we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a certain night, and we lost him. So we searched for him in the valleys and mountains, and we said, 'He was taken away or killed.' So we spent the night fearing that some people had captured him. When morning came, he appeared to us from the direction of Hira and said, 'We lost you and searched for you but did not find you, so I spent the night with some people.' He said, 'A caller from among the jinn came to me and I went with him, and I recited the Quran to them.' He then took us to see their tracks and the marks of their fires, and they asked him for provisions. He said, 'Every bone that mentions the name of Allah upon it will be enough for you as meat, and every dung will be enough for your animals.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do not relieve yourselves with those two things, for they are the food of your brothers.'"

A deputation of the jinn came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Muhammad, forbid your community to cleans themselves with a bone or dung or charcoal, for in them Allah has provided sustenance for us. So the Prophet ﷺ forbade them to do so. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 39)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited using a bone, dung, or animal excrement for istinja. Ali ibn Rabah is reported to have heard it but there is weakness in the chain of narration, and Allah knows best. In this matter, there is also a narration from Abu Uthman ibn Sanaa al-Khuzai and Abdul Rahman ibn Rafi al-Tanukhi, both narrating from Ibn Masood, but neither of them mention the use of animal excrement.

Shayban al-Qatbani reported that Maslamah ibn Mukhallad made Ruwayfi' ibn Thabit the governor of the lower parts (of Egypt). He added: We travelled with him from Kum Sharik to Alqamah or from Alqamah to Kum Sharik (the narrator doubts) for Alqam. Ruwayfi' said: Any one of us would borrow a camel during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ from the other, on condition that he would give him half the booty, and the other half he would retain himself. Further, one of us received an arrowhead and a feather, and the other an arrow-shaft as a share from the booty. He then reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You may live for a long time after I am gone, Ruwayfi', so, tell people that if anyone ties his beard or wears round his neck a string to ward off the evil eye, or cleanses himself with animal dung or bone, Muhammad has nothing to do with him. [Machine] From a man among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ from the Ansar, he informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited anyone from using the bones, dung, or animal skin for fragrance. Abu Bakr al-Harifi informed us of this. I am Ali ibn Umar al-Hafidh and Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Nasir narrated to me, from Al-Hasan ibn Ali, from Abu Tahir and Amr ibn Suwaid, they said: Ibn Wahb narrated from Umar ibn al-Harith, and he mentioned it. Ali ibn Umar said, "This chain is not reliable."

[Machine] The translation of the passage into English is:
"The method of istinja' (cleansing after using the toilet) is with three stones or with three sticks. I asked, 'What if I can't find them?' He said, 'Three handfuls of soil will suffice.' This is the correct view according to a statement attributed to Ta'us."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you goes to relieve himself, let him not face the qibla (direction of prayer) or turn his back to it. Then let him cleanse himself with three stones or three sticks or three clumps of soil. Then let him say, 'Praise be to Allah who relieved me of what could harm me and kept me safe from that which could benefit me.'"
[Machine] Surahqa bin Malik came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him about performing istinja (ritual cleansing after using the bathroom). The Prophet ﷺ ordered him to take a strong wind and face away from the Qibla (direction of prayer) without directly facing it, and to use three stones for istinja, not containing any filth, or three twigs, or three clots of dust. Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz, Abu Bakr ibn al-Hasan al-Qadi, and Abu Abdullah al-Sulami informed us that Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to them, who was narrated by Abu Uthbah, who was narrated by Baqiah, who was narrated by Mubashir bin Ubaid, who was informed by al-Hajjaj bin Artat, mentioning it. Abu Bakr al-Harithi said: Abu al-Hasan al-Daraqutni al-Hafiz did not mention it except through Mubashir bin Ubaid, who is abandoned in hadith. The sheikh said: Qutaybah narrated from Anas bin Malik as marfu (a saying of the Prophet ﷺ). And this is what is mentioned.
