[Machine] I have seen myself as the seventh of seven with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and we had no food except for leaves of the tree bark or the fiber of date-palm, as Shu'bah narrated. One of us would place it on his abdomen just as a sheep does, and then the Banu Asad tribe began to look down upon me because of my Islam. I have indeed lost then, and my effort has gone astray. Ibn 'Uyaynah narrated it as, "except for leaves of the tree or the fiber of date-palm, and one of us would place it on his abdomen just as a sheep does, while his wealth is mixed with that." The rest is similar in meaning.  

البيهقي:٥١٩أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ ثنا أَبُو حَاتِمِ بْنُ بِلَالٍ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ أَبِي دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْمُنَادِي ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي وَأَنَا سَابِعُ سَبْعَةٍ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَا لَنَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا وَرَقُ الْحَبَلِ أَوِ الْحَبَلَةِ هَكَذَا حَدَّثَ شُعْبَةُ حَتَّى إِنَّ أَحَدَنَا لَيَضَعُ كَمَا تَضَعُ الشَّاةُ ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَتْ بَنُو أَسَدٍ تُعَزِّرُنِي عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ لَقَدْ خَسِرْتُ إِذًا وَضَلَّ سَعْيِي وَفِي رِوَايَةِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ إِلَّا وَرَقُ الشَّجَرِ أَوِ الْحَبَلَةِ حَتَّى إِنَّ أَحَدَنَا لَيَضَعُ كَمَا تَضَعُ الشَّاةَ مَالَهُ خِلْطٌ وَالْبَاقِي بِمَعْنَاهُ
