1. Purification (18/28)
[Machine] That men and women during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to perform ablution together in one vessel.
We (men) and women during the life-time of the Apostle of Allaah ( sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) used to perform ablution from one vessel. We all put our hands in it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 80)
[Machine] My hand and the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ differed regarding a single vessel for ablution. Al-Bukhari said: "This is Salim, the son of Sarj, also known as Ibn Khurboodh, Abu An-Nu'man." Some of them said: "He is the son of An-Nu'man." Al-Bukhari said: "He is the freed slave of Umm Sabiyyah, whose name was Khawlah bint Qais." Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al-Farsi informed us: "I am Ibrahim ibn Abdullah Al-Asbahani." Abu Ahmad ibn Faris narrated from Muhammad ibn Ismail Al-Bukhari, and he mentioned it.
1.207 [Machine] What is mentioned in the prohibition regarding that?
[Machine] I met a man who accompanied the Prophet ﷺ just as Abu Hurairah accompanied him for four years. He said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from wiping ourselves with water every day or urinating in the place of washing, or a woman washing herself due to a man's seminal discharge, or a man washing himself due to a woman's discharge. Instead, they should both perform ghusl (ritual bathing). Abu Ali Ar-Ruwdhbari reported to us on the authority of Abu Bakr bin Dasa, who narrated from Abu Dawud, who narrated from Ahmad bin Yunus, who narrated from Zuhair, who narrated from Dawud bin Abdullah who mentioned it in the same manner except that it does not include the statement "they should both perform ghusl." The narrators of this hadith are trustworthy, except that Humaid did not mention the companion who narrated it, so he can be considered as a confident narrator, but not a connected one, except that he is a good mursal narrator, if not for his contradiction of established and continuous hadiths. Dawud bin Abdullah Al-Awdi did not cite this hadith as evidence, and the Shaykhs Bukhari and Muslim did not use it as evidence. May Allah have mercy on them.
[Machine] About a man from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who said that the Prophet ﷺ forbade performing ablution from the leftover water of a woman's ablution. Yunus said, "This was narrated to us by Abu Dawood."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ prohibited a man from performing ablution based on the ablution of a woman. This was narrated by Mahmoud ibn Ghailan from Abu Dawud At-Tayalisi as such, except that he (the Prophet) said "or based on her wudu". This was also narrated by Wahb ibn Jarir from Shu'bah.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ prohibited the consumption of a woman's urine, and he did not know the virtue of her urine or the virtue of her drink. This was narrated by Shu'bah from Sulaiman al-Taymi.
The Messenger of Allah forbade men to perform ablution with the left over water by a woman. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 373)
[Machine] On the authority of a man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ from the tribe of Ghifar, it was mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ prohibited a man from purifying himself with the remnants of a woman's ablution, and so forth.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited the exaggeration in the ablution of women and similar.
[Machine] The woman performs ablution and cleanses herself due to the ritual purification of the man, and the man does not perform ablution due to the ritual purification of the woman nor her cleanliness. Ali said, "This is suspended and it is more correct." The scholar said, "It has been reported to me from Abu Isa At-Tirmidhi from Muhammad ibn Ismail Al-Bukhari that he said, 'The hadith of Abdullah ibn Sargis in this chapter is authentic, and whoever denies it is mistaken.'"
1.208 [Machine] There is no time for those who purify themselves.
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when the time for Asr prayer came and the people sought to perform ablution but they could not find water. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought a container of water and he placed his hand in it, and he commanded the people to perform ablution from it. I saw water springing from beneath his fingers, and the people performed ablution until they all completed it.
[Machine] I used to shower with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from one vessel.
[Machine] I and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution from a single vessel, and that container at that time was called "Al-Faraqah".
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to perform ablution in the same container, and I also used to perform ablution with him from the same vessel.
[Machine] I used to take a bath along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from one container that had a capacity of a sa' (measurement). Abu Bakr ibn al-Hasan al-Qadi informed us, Hajib ibn Ahmad, that Muhammad ibn Hammad narrated to us, who narrated from Abdul-Razzaq, who narrated from Ma'mar and Ibn Jurayj, who narrated from Al-Zuhri, who mentioned it, and Malik narrated it from Al-Zuhri, with an addition to it.
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ghusl (ritual bathing) from a vessel that was separate from janabah (ritual impurity).
[Machine] I and the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to perform ablution from one container. The difference is stated, and Az-Zuhri said, "I think it is five portions." Abu 'Amr said, "One portion is four dirhams." Others also narrated from Ibrahim ibn Sa'd in the same manner, and Abu Muhammad ibn Yusuf informed us that I am Abu Abdullah ibn Yazid, and I am Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Sufyan. Muslim ibn Al-Hajjaj narrated to us, and he said Qutaibah has said, Sufyan said, meaning Ibn Uyaynah, "The difference is thirteen ash'." In another narration from Harmala, it is reported from Ash-Shafi'i that he said the same. Abu Ali Ar-Rudhbari informed us, and Abu Bakr ibn Dasa narrated to us, and Abu Dawud said, "I heard Ahmad ibn Hanbal saying, 'The difference is sixteen ratl." I also heard him saying, "A sa' of Ibn Abi Dhi'b is five dirhams and a third." It was asked, "So how much is it?" He said, "Eight dirhams." It was said, "That is not correct." Ash-Shafi'i said, "And we have been informed that the Prophet, ﷺ , performed ablution with a mud and took a bath with a sa'."
[Machine] I heard Anas ibn Malik saying that the Prophet ﷺ used to perform ghusl (ritual bathing) with a sa' (a unit of measurement) of water up to five imdad (liters), and he used to perform wudu (ablution) with mud.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution with the "makkuk" and take a bath with five "makaakii" 931 and their meaning.
1.209 [Machine] It is preferable not to diminish the amount of water used in ablution or in washing.
[Machine] From the ship of the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ghusl with a sa'a and perform purification with mud.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution with a mudd of water and wash himself with a sa' (measurement unit).
The Prophet ﷺ used to wash himself with a sa' (of water) and perform ablution with a mudd (of water). Abu Dawud said: This tradition has also been narrated by Aban on the authority of Qatadah. In this version he said: "I herd safiyyah." (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 92)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The minimum amount for ablution is a handful, and the minimum amount for ritual impurity is a Saa'."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to perform ablution with a "mud" (pot) and would take a bath with a "saa" (measurement). I was informed by Abu Bakr ibn Foorak that Abdullah ibn Ja'far narrated to us, then Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us, then Abu Dawood narrated to us, then Abu Awaanah mentioned it.
[Machine] A man among them said, "By Allah, that is not sufficient for me, neither from him nor to him." Jabir said, "He used to suffice me with more loyalty and goodness than you."
[Machine] About the ritual ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from major impurity, she called for water measuring a Saa' (a measure unit) and performed the ablution. Then, she poured the water over her head three times.
1.210 [Machine] The allowance for exemption from them both when it comes to what they were commanded.
[Machine] She used to bathe with the Prophet ﷺ from a single container that would hold three servings and nearly that amount.
[Machine] Women have indeed been burdened, and I have seen myself and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution from this (amount of water), and there is a container similar to a Saa' or less, and I pour it all onto my head three times.
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ performed ablution and then a vessel containing water, about two-thirds of a mud, was brought to him in this manner.
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ was brought two-thirds of a container of water, so he performed ablution and then wiped his arms.
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ performed ablution with about two-thirds of a mudd, and likewise
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ performed ablution with half a mud. Abu Saad al-Malini informed us that I am Abu Ahmad ibn Adiyy. Abdullah ibn Muhammad al-Baghawi narrated to us that Surayj ibn Yunus narrated to us from Ali ibn Thabit al-Jazari from As-Salti, who mentioned it. And As-Salti ibn Dinar is abandoned and his hadith is not celebrated, although it has been narrated from him in this hadith. He also said in another instance with a small amount of water. Abu Hazim al-Hafiz informed us that Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Ishaq al-Hafiz narrated to us that I am Abu Al-Qasim Abdullah ibn Muhammad. Surayj ibn Yunus also mentioned it in his chain of narration similar to the narration of Al-Malini, and he added that in another instance with a small amount of water, and it has been said about him in this hadith with a lesser amount. Abu Saad al-Malini informed us that Abu Ahmad ibn Adiyy narrated to us that Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahid al-Naqid narrated to us that Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Abi Mudhoor narrated to us from Ali ibn Thabit al-Jazari from As-Salti ibn Dinar, who mentioned it in his chain of narration.

[Machine] "O my son, ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge in Him from the Fire, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying that there will be a group in this Ummah who commit excesses in purification and supplication."
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ , there is a devil for ablution, called Al-walahan, so beware of it or be cautious of it. Another narration from Abu Dawud mentions: Beware of it and fear the whispers of the water. Abi Abdullah Al-Hafiz reported from Ali ibn Isa ibn Ibrahim from Muhammad ibn Salih ibn Jameel from Abdullah Al-Saffar and Muhammad ibn Bashar who said: Abu Dawud mentioned it similarly. In the chain of narration, it is mentioned by Utayyah ibn Damarah, and this Hadith is attributed to Ath-Thawri from Bayan, from Al-Hasan with part of it being his speech, not raised, and the rest from Yunus ibn Ubaid, also not raised. And Allah knows best. And this is due to the fact that...

1.212 [Machine] Cover-up in laundry among people.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ covered himself and performed ghusl (ritual washing) from janabah (major ritual impurity). He began by washing his hands, then poured water with his right hand onto his left hand, and washed his private parts and whatever was touched by impurity. Then, he wiped the wall or the ground with his hand, then performed ablution (wudu) for prayer, excluding his feet. After that, he poured water on his body and washed it, then stepped back and washed his feet.
[Machine] He informed him that he heard Umm Hani bint Abi Talib say, "I went to the Prophet ﷺ on the day of the conquest, and I found him performing ablution while Fatimah, his daughter, was covering him with a garment."
[Machine] Ali ibn Abi Talib entered upon her while they were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the conquest of Mecca. He mentioned the hadith, she said: Then, water was poured for him to perform ablution, and his daughter Fatimah covered him with his garment. When he finished ablution, he took it and wrapped himself with it, then he stood up and prayed eight prostrations, and that was after sunrise.

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a man washing himself with urine. So he ascended the pulpit and praised Allah and glorified Him, then he said: "Indeed, Allah, may His praise be exalted, is shy and loves shyness and modesty. So when one of you washes himself, let him cover his private parts." And Abu Ali reported to us, from Abu Bakr, from Abu Dawud, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Abi Khalaf, from Al-Aswad ibn Amir, from Abu Bakr ibn Ayyash, from Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Suleiman, from Ata, from Safwan ibn Ya'la, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ , with this hadith, and Abu Dawud said: "The first part is complete.

1.213 [Machine] Exposure when alone
The Prophet ﷺ said, "While Job was naked, taking a bath, a swarm of gold locusts fell on him and he started collecting them in his garment. His Lord called him, 'O Job! Have I not made you rich enough to need what you see? He said, 'Yes, O Lord! But I cannot dispense with your Blessing."' (Using translation from Bukhārī 3391)
The Prophet ﷺ said, 'The (people of) Bani Israel used to take bath naked (all together) looking at each other. The Prophet ﷺ Moses used to take a bath alone. They said, 'By Allah! Nothing prevents Moses from taking a bath with us except that he has a scrotal hernia.' So once Moses went out to take a bath and put his clothes over a stone and then that stone ran away with his clothes. Moses followed that stone saying, "My clothes, O stone! My clothes, O stone! till the people of Bani Israel saw him and said, 'By Allah, Moses has got no defect in his body. Moses took his clothes and began to beat the stone." Abu Huraira added, "By Allah! There are still six or seven marks present on the stone from that excessive beating." (Using translation from Bukhārī 278)

[Machine] He said, "O Prophet of Allah, our nakedness, what we present and what we conceal?" He said, "Preserve your nakedness except from your wife or those whom your right hand possesses." So I said, "What if the people are in close proximity to each other?" He said, "If you can prevent anyone from seeing it, then do so." I said, "What if one of us is alone?" He said, "Allah is more deserving that one feels ashamed before Him than before the people." This was mentioned by Al-Bukhari in his summary. And Bahz narrated from his father, from his grandfather, from the Prophet ﷺ, "Allah is more deserving that one feels ashamed before Him than before the people."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not perform ablution in the desert unless you cannot find any shelter. If you cannot find any shelter, then one of you should draw a line like a boundary, then call upon Allah the Exalted and perform ablution with it." Abu Bakr bin Muhammad informed us, "I am Abu Al-Hasan Al-Fasawi," Abu Ali Al-Lu'lu'i informed us, and Abu Dawud mentioned it.

1.215 [Machine] Al-Junub Delays Ghusl (ritual purification) Until Late at Night
[Machine] I asked Aisha, "Did you see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform the ritual bath for major impurity (ghusl) at the beginning of the night or at the end?" She replied, "Perhaps he performed it at the beginning of the night, and perhaps he performed it at the end." I said, "Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest), praise be to Allah who made ease in matters."

[Machine] Aisha, the wife of the Prophet, said "When the Messenger of Allah wanted to sleep while in a state of ritual impurity (junub), he would perform ablution (wudu) for prayer before sleeping." And Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz narrated to us, from Abu Bakr ibn Ishaq, from Ismail ibn Qutaybah, from Yahya ibn Yahya, from Layth ibn Saad, who mentioned it similarly.
