١۔ كِتَابُ الطَّهَارَة ص ٢٦
[Machine] He informed us about it from him, Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz, and I found evidence with Anas ibn Malik that indicates that.
أَخْبَرَنَا بِذَلِكَ عَنْهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَقَدْ وَجَدْتُ لِأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَثَرًا يَدُلُّ عَلَى ذَلِكَ
[Machine] I saw Anas bin Malik enter the bathroom while wearing two socks. Underneath them were leather socks, and on top of them were yellow socks. He wiped over them.
رَأَيْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ دَخَلَ الْخَلَاءَ وَعَلَيْهِ جَوْرَبَانِ أَسْفَلُهُمَا جُلُودٌ وَأَعْلَاهُمَا خَزٌّ فَمَسَحَ عَلَيْهِمَا
1.294 [Machine] What is mentioned in the wiping (mas'h) on the two sandals?
١۔٢٩٤ بَابُ مَا وَرَدَ فِي الْمَسْحِ عَلَى النَّعْلَيْنِ
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution repeatedly and wiped his feet like this.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ مَرَّةً مَرَّةً وَمَسَحَ عَلَى نَعْلَيْهِ هَكَذَا
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ wiped over the shoes, and the authentic narration is from the collective reference, narrated by Abdul Aziz Ad-Darawardi and Hisham ibn Saad from Zaid ibn Aslam, who mentioned in the hadith that he sprinkled water on the person, and the shoes had not been washed, so it is possible to understand from this that he washed them while wearing the shoes.
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مَسَحَ عَلَى النَّعْلَيْنِ وَالصَّحِيحُ رِوَايَةُ الْجَمَاعَةِ وَرَوَاهُ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ الدَّرَاوَرْدِيُّ وَهِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ فَحَكَيَا فِي الْحَدِيثِ رَشَّ عَلَى الرِّجْلِ وَفِيهَا النَّعْلُ وَذَلِكَ يَحْتَمِلُ أَنْ يَكُونَ غَسَلَهَا فِي النَّعْلِ فَقَدْ
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performing ablution and he wiped over his sandals and feet, and he said, "It is enough to wipe over them, for I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing so."
رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى نَعْلَيْهِ وَقَدْمَيْهِ وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ إِنَّهُ رَأَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution and wiped over his slippers while they were cut. Abu Bakr ibn Fuhrk informed us that Abdullah ibn Ja'far narrated to us that Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us that Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi narrated to us that Hammad ibn Salamah mentioned it. And this chain of narration is not strong, but it indicates what the first hadith suggests, which is that it refers to washing the two feet while wearing slippers.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى نَعْلَيْهِ وَهُو مُنْقَطِعٌ أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ فُورَكٍ أنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ فَذَكَرَهُ وَهَذَا الْإِسْنَادُ غَيْرُ قَوِيٍّ وَهُوَ يَحْتَمِلُ مَا احْتَمَلَ الْحَدِيثَ الْأَوْلَ وَالَّذِي يَدُلُّ عَلَى أَنَّ الْمُرَادَ بِهِ غَسْلُ الرِّجْلَيْنِ فِي النَّعْلَيْنِ
[Machine] As for the Sibtiyyah sandals, I have seen the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , wearing sandals that do not have hair on them and performing ablution while wearing them. I love to wear them. Al-Bukhari narrated it in Al-Sahih from Abdullah ibn Yusuf, from Malik, and Muslim narrated it from Yahya ibn Yahya.
أَمَّا النِّعَالُ السِّبْتِيَّةُ فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَلْبَسُ النِّعَالَ الَّتِي لَيْسَ فِيهَا شَعْرٌ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ فِيهَا فَأَنَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَلْبَسَهَا وَرَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ عَنْ مَالِكٍ وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَحْيَى وَكَذَلِكَ
[Machine] Ibn Umar was asked, "We have seen you doing something that no one else does. What is it?" He replied, "What is it?" They said, "We have seen you wearing these Sabbath sandals." He said, "I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wearing them, performing ablution with them, wiping over them, and if they are clean, it does not negate the washing. He used to wash them with the sandals and wipe over them, just as he wiped over his forehead and his turban." Only Allah knows the truth.
قِيلَ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ رَأَيْنَاكَ تَفْعَلُ شَيْئًا لَمْ نَرَ أَحَدًا يَصْنَعُهُ غَيْرُكَ قَالَ وَمَا هُوَ؟ قَالَ رَأَيْنَاكَ تَلْبَسُ هَذِهِ النِّعَالَ السِّبْتِيَّةَ قَالَ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَلْبَسُهَا وَيَتَوَضَّأُ فِيهَا وَيَمْسَحُ عَلَيْهَا وَهَذِهِ الزِّيَادَةُ إِنْ كَانَتْ مَحْفُوظَةً فَلَا يُنَافِي غَسْلَهُمَا فَقَدْ يَغْسِلُهُمَا فِي النَّعْلِ وَيَمْسَحُ عَلَيْهِمَا كَمَا مَسَحَ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ وَعَلَى عِمَامَتِهِ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ
[Machine] Ali performed the ablution while standing, then wiped over his socks.
بَالَ عَلِيٌّ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى النَّعْلَيْنِ
[Machine] Ali cried out while standing, then he performed ablution and wiped over his sandals. After that, he went out and prayed the midday prayer.
بَالَ عَلِيٌّ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى النَّعْلَيْنِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ
[Machine] So he told me, and I saw Abu Dhabian standing in the mosque, so I said, "This is Abu Dhabian." I went to him and asked him about the hadith and what is known about Ali, that he washed his feet when performing ablution like the Prophet ﷺ, and that he did not differ from the Prophet ﷺ. As for wiping over the sandals, it is included in washing the feet with the sandals, and wiping over the sandals is permissible for those who cover their feet with socks, as they are not considered the place of washing. He said, "The basic ruling is that washing the feet is obligatory except for what has been specifically mentioned in the established Sunnah or agreed upon without any difference of opinion. Wiping over the sandals or socks is not the same, and Allah knows best."
فَأَخْبَرْنِي فَرَأَيْتُ أَبَا ظَبْيَانَ قَائِمًا فِي الْكُنَاسَةِ فَقُلْتُ هَذَا أَبُو ظَبْيَانَ فَأَتَاهُ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ الْحَدِيثِ وَالْمَشْهُورُ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ؓ أَنَّهُ غَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ حِينَ وَصَفَ وُضُوءَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ لَا يُخَالِفُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَمَّا مَسْحُهُ عَلَى النَّعْلَيْنِ فَهُوَ مَحْمُولٌ عَلَى غَسْلِ الرِّجْلَيْنِ فِي النَّعْلَيْنِ وَالْمَسْحِ عَلَى النَّعْلَيْنِ لِأَنَّ الْمَسْحَ رُخْصَةٌ لِمَنْ تَغَطَّتْ رِجْلَاهُ بِالْخُفَّيْنِ فَلَا يُعَدَّانِهَا مَوْضِعَهَا قَالَ وَالْأَصْلُ وُجُوبُ غَسْلِ الرِّجْلَيْنِ إِلَّا مَا خَصَّتْهُ سُنَّةٌ ثَابِتَةٌ أَوْ إِجْمَاعٌ لَا يُخْتَلَفُ فِيهِ وَلَيْسَ عَلَى الْمَسْحِ عَلَى النَّعْلَيْنِ وَلَا عَلَى الْجَوْرَبَيْنِ وَاحِدٌ مِنْهُمَا وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ
1.295 [Machine] Wiping over the footgear, and the footgear is the sock except that whoever permits wiping over the two footgear uses it as an evidence.
١۔٢٩٥ بَابُ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْمُوقَيْنِ وَالْمُوقُ هُوَ الْخُفُّ إِلَّا أَنَّ مَنْ أَجَازَ الْمَسْحَ عَلَى الْجُرْمُوقَيْنِ احْتَجَّ بِهِ
He went out to relieve himself. Then I brought water for him and he performed ablution, and wiped over his turban and socks. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 153)
عَنْ وُضُوءِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ كَانَ يَخْرُجُ يَقْضِي حَاجَتَهُ فَآتِيهِ بِالْمَاءِ فَيَتَوَضَّأُ وَيَمْسَحُ عَلَى عِمَامَتِهِ وَمُوقَيْهِ وَقَالَ غَيْرُهُ تَمِيمُ بْنُ مُرَّةَ
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wipe over his mawqayn and khimar."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَمْسَحُ عَلَى الْمُوقَيْنِ وَالْخِمَارِ
1.296 [Machine] The removal of socks and washing of the feet in the obligatory ritual bath of janabah.
١۔٢٩٦ بَابُ خَلْعِ الْخُفَّيْنِ وَغَسْلِ الرِّجْلَيْنِ فِي الْغُسْلِ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ
[Machine] Did you hear anything from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it? He ﷺ said: "Yes, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us that when we are on a journey, we should not remove our socks for three days and nights, regardless of defecation, urination, or sleep, except when in a state of janabah."
سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِيهِ شَيْئًا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا كُنَّا سَفَرًا أَوْ مُسَافِرِينَ أَنْ لَا نَخْلَعَ خِفَافَنَا ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيَهُنَّ مِنْ غَائِطٍ وَلَا بَوْلٍ وَلَا نَوْمٍ إِلَّا مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ
1.297 [Machine] The one who took off his shoes after wiping them
١۔٢٩٧ بَابُ مَنْ خَلَعَ خُفَّيْهِ بَعْدَمَا مَسَحَ عَلَيْهِمَا
[Machine] A man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ narrated about a man who wiped over his socks and then desired to take them off. He said, "He should wash his feet." 1371 Abu Bakr ibn Ibrahim al-Farisi narrated to us that Ibrahim ibn Abdullah al-Asbahani informed us, and Abu Ahmad ibn Farris, and Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari informed us, and Abu Nuaim informed us, and Abdus Salam mentioned it in its meaning. Al-Bukhari said, "We do not know if Yahya heard it from Saeed or not, and we do not know if Saeed was from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ or not."
عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الرَّجُلِ يَمْسَحُ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ يَبْدُو لَهُ فَيَنْزِعُهُمَا قَالَ يَغْسِلُ قَدْمَيْهِ 1371 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْفَارِسِيُّ أنبأ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ بْنُ فَارِسٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْبُخَارِيُّ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا عَبْدُ السَّلَامِ فَذَكَرَهُ بِمَعْنَاهُ قَالَ الْبُخَارِيُّ وَلَا نَعْرِفُ أَنَّ يَحْيَى سَمِعَ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ أَمْ لَا وَلَا سَعِيدٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ in the story of the wiping, he said, "And my father used to remove his socks, wash his feet, and it is mentioned about 'Ata' that he did the same."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي قِصَّةِ الْمَسْحِ قَالَ وَكَانَ أَبِي يَنْزِعُ خُفَّيْهِ وَيَغْسِلُ رِجْلَيْهِ وَيُذْكَرُ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ
[Machine] About Alqamah and Al-Aswad in the man who performs ablution and wipes over his socks then takes them off, they said: He washes his feet. This was narrated by Abu Hanifah from Hammad from Ibrahim himself, and it was also narrated from Al-Hakam and others from Ibrahim that he prays and does not wash his feet, and this is the saying of Al-Hasan. And it was also narrated from Ibrahim a third opinion.
عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ وَالْأَسْوَدِ فِي الرَّجُلِ يَتَوَضَّأُ وَيَمْسَحُ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ يَخْلَعُهُمَا قَالَا يَغْسِلُ رِجْلَيْهِ وَرَوَاهُ أَبُو حَنِيفَةَ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ نَفْسِهِ وَرُوِيَ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ وَغَيْرِهِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ يُصَلِّي وَلَا يَغْسِلُ قَدْمَيْهِ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ الْحَسَنِ وَرُوِيَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ شَيْءٌ ثَالِثٌ
[Machine] If he wiped over his socks and then took them off, his ablution is invalidated.
إِذَا مَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ خَلَعَهُمَا خَلَعَ وُضُوءَهُ
[Machine] About a man who performed ablution, then he put his feet in clean socks. Then he broke his ablution and wiped over the socks. Should he wash them or continue his ablution? He said, "No, he should continue his ablution." The sheikh narrated a similar story from Mak'hul, and Ash-Shafi'i narrated it in the book of Abu Hanifah and Ibn Abi Layla on the issue of differentiating ablution. And the narrations about it have passed in its chapter. And we have also narrated from Ash-Sha'bi from Ash-Shafi'i regarding a man who had a pebble in his sock. He said, "He should perform ablution, and Allah knows best, he only intended to take off his sock to remove the pebble, and then he should perform ablution."
عَنْ رَجُلٍ تَوَضَّأَ فَأَدْخَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ الْخُفَّيْنِ طَاهِرَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ أَحْدَثَ فَمَسَحَ عَلَيْهِمَا ثُمَّ نَزَعَهُمَا أَيَغْسِلُهُمَا أَمْ يَسْتَأْنِفُ وُضُوءَهُ؟ قَالَ بَلْ يَسْتَأْنِفُ وُضُوءَهُ قَالَ الشَّيْخُ وَيُرْوَى عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ الشَّافِعِيُّ فِي كِتَابِ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ وَابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَلَى تَفْرِيقِ الْوُضُوءِ وَقَدْ مَضَتِ الْآثَارُ فِيهِ فِي بَابِهِ وَرَوَيْنَا عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنِ الشَّافِعِيِّ فِي رَجُلٍ دَخَلَ خُفَّهُ حَصَاةٌ قَالَ يَتَوَضَّأُ وَإِنَّمَا أَرَادَ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ يَنْزِعُ خُفَّهُ لِإِخْرَاجِ الْحَصَاةِ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ
[Machine] We went on a raid with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he instructed us to wipe over our socks for three days and nights for the traveler, and for a day and night for the resident, as long as they do not take them off. This was done uniquely by Umar ibn Rudadh, and it is not preferred.
غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَمَرَنَا بِالْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيَهَا لِلْمُسَافِرِ وَيَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً لِلْمُقِيمِ مَا لَمْ يَخْلَعْ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ عُمَرُ بْنُ رُدَيْحٍ وَلَيْسَ بِالْقَوِيِّ
1.298 [Machine] How to perform ablution on the feet
١۔٢٩٨ بَابُ كَيْفَ الْمَسْحُ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ
The Messenger of Allah wiped over the top and the bottom of the leather socks. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 550)
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَمْسَحُ أَعْلَى الْخُفِّ وَأَسْفَلَهُ
[Machine] "I performed ablution for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Battle of Tabuk. He wiped over the top and bottom of his socks. This is what was narrated in this chain: Rajaa ibn Haywah told us in 1379, Abu al-Hasan ibn Abdan informed us, Ahmad ibn Ubaid al-Saffar narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Yahya ibn Ishaq al-Hulwani informed us, Dawud ibn Rushayd mentioned it in a similar manner, and he said it was narrated from Rajaa in 1380. Abu Ali al-Rudhbari told us, I am Abu Bakr ibn Dasa, Abu Dawud informed us, Musa ibn Marwan al-Raqqi and Mahmoud ibn Khalid al-Dimashqi narrated, they both said that Waleed mentioned it in a similar manner, and he said it was narrated from Rajaa ibn Haywah. Abu Dawud said, it is narrated that Thawr did not hear this hadith from Rajaa. And Abu Bakr ibn al-Harith al-Faqih informed us, he said that Ali ibn Umar al-Hafiz said."
وَضَّأْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ فَمَسَحَ عَلَى أَعْلَى الْخُفِّ وَأَسْفَلِهِ كَذَا قَالَ فِي هَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ثنا رَجَاءُ بْنُ حَيْوَةَ 1379 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ بْنُ عَبْدَانَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ فَذَكَرَهُ بِمَعْنَاهُ وَقَالَ عَنْ رَجَاءٍ 1380 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ أنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ نا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ مَرْوَانَ الرَّقِّيُّ وَمَحْمُودُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ قَالَا ثنا الْوَلِيدُ فَذَكَرَهُ بِمَعْنَاهُ وَقَالَ عَنْ رَجَاءِ بْنِ حَيْوَةَ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ يُرْوَى أَنَّ ثَوْرًا لَمْ يَسْمَعْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ مِنْ رَجَاءٍ وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الْفَقِيهُ قَالَ قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْحَافِظُ
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ مِثْلَهُ
[Machine] He used to say, "Put the one who wipes on the shoes, one hand above the shoe and one hand beneath the shoe, then wipe." Malik said, "That is the most beloved thing that I have heard regarding wiping the shoes."
أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ يَضَعُ الَّذِي يَمْسَحُ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ يَدًا مِنْ فَوْقِ الْخُفِّ وَيَدًا مِنْ تَحْتِ الْخُفِّ ثُمَّ يَمْسَحُ قَالَ مَالِكٌ وَذَلِكَ أَحَبُّ مَا سَمِعْتُ إِلِيَّ فِي مَسْحِ الْخُفَّيْنِ
1.299 [Machine] Restriction to surface wiping only
١۔٢٩٩ بَابُ الِاقْتِصَارِ بِالْمَسْحِ عَلَى ظَاهِرِ الْخُفَّيْنِ
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ wiped over the upper part of his socks in this way.
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مَسَحَ عَلَى ظَاهِرِ خُفَّيْهِ كَذَا
[Machine] "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wearing sandals, then he came until he performed ablution, then he wiped over his feet and placed his right hand on his right foot and his left hand on his left foot, then he wiped over them with one wipe, to the extent that it was as if I could see the fingers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on his sandals."
رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَالَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ وَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى خُفِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ وَيَدَهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى خُفِّهِ الْأَيْسَرِ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ أَعْلَاهُمَا مَسْحَةً وَاحِدَةً حَتَّى كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى أَصَابِعِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ
If the religion were based on opinion, it would be more important to wipe the under part of the shoe than the upper but I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping over the upper part of his shoes. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 162)
لَوْ كَانَ الدِّينُ بِالرَّأْيِ لَكَانَ أَسْفَلُ الْخُفِّ أَوْلَى بِالْمَسْحِ مِنْ أَعْلَاهُ وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَمْسَحُ عَلَى ظَاهِرِ خُفَّيْهِ
[Machine] Ali said, "If the religion of Allah were based on opinion, the underside of the shoe would be more deserving of being wiped than its top. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping his fingers like this."
قَالَ عَلِيٌّ لَوْ كَانَ دِينُ اللهِ بِالرَّأْيِ لَكَانَ بَاطِنُ الْخُفِّ أَحَقُّ بِالْمَسْحِ مِنْ أَعْلَاهُ وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَمْسَحُ هَكَذَا بِأَصَابِعِهِ
“I always preferred to wash the under part of the feet until I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping the upper part of them. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 163)
مَا كُنْتُ أَرَى بَاطِنَ الْقَدْمَيْنِ إِلَّا أَحَقَّ بِالْمَسْحِ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَمْسَحُ عَلَى ظَهْرِ خُفَّيْهِ
[Machine] I used to believe that wiping the upper part of the feet during ablution was more correct than wiping the bottom part, until I saw the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ perform ablution and wipe over the top of his feet on his socks. In all of these restricted narrations about wiping on the socks, there is an indication of brevity and ease.
كُنْتُ أَرَى أَنَّ بَاطِنَ الْقَدْمَيْنِ أَحَقُّ بِالْمَسْحِ مِنْ ظَاهِرِهِمَا حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى ظَهْرِ قَدْمَيْهِ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ وَفِي كُلِّ هَذِهِ الرِّوَايَاتِ الْمُقَيَّدَاتِ بِالْخُفَّيْنِ دَلَالَةٌ عَلَى اخْتِصَارٍ وَقَعَ
[Machine] If it were not for the fact that I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiping over the top of the feet, I would think that the bottom or the inside of them is more appropriate for that. And likewise.
لَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَمْسَحُ عَلَى ظَهْرِ الْقَدْمَيْنِ لَرَأَيْتُ أَنَّ أَسْفَلَهُمَا أَوْ بَاطِنَهُمَا أَحَقُّ بِذَلِكَ وَكَذَلِكَ
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanding us to wipe over the top of the socks when wearing them, as long as they are clean. Khalid ibn Abu Bakr is weak, and what has been mentioned is sufficient.
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَأْمُرُنَا بِالْمَسْحِ عَلَى ظَهْرِ الْخُفَّيْنِ إِذَا لَبِسَهُمَا وَهُمَا طَاهِرَتَانِ خَالِدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ لَيْسَ بِالْقَوِيِّ وَفِيمَا مَضَى كِفَايَةٌ
[Machine] He saw Anas ibn Malik in Quba wiping the surface of his leather socks with one wipe of his hands.
أَنَّهُ رَأَى أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ بِقُبَاءَ مَسَحَ ظَاهِرَ خُفَّيْهِ بِكَفَّيْهِ مَسْحَةً وَاحِدَةً
[Machine] He felt an urge, so he performed ablution and wiped over the tops of his feet.
أَنَّهُ بَالَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ظُهُورَ الْقَدْمَيْنِ
عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ
[Machine] That he fell, so he performed ablution and wiped over the tops of his feet.
أَنَّهُ بَالَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ظُهُورَ الْقَدْمَيْنِ
1.300 [Machine] The permission to remove the socks and wash the feet if there is no desire for it based on the Sunnah.
١۔٣٠٠ بَابُ جَوَازِ نَزْعِ الْخُفِّ وَغَسْلِ الرِّجْلِ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِ رَغْبَةٌ عَنِ السُّنَّةِ
[Machine] He used to command us to wipe over the socks, and he used to wash his feet. So, it was asked to him about that, how do you command wiping while you wash? He said, "It is not a problem for me if it is a profession for you and a sin upon me. I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing it and commanding it. However, I am a person who loves to perform ablution. This is the wording of the Zahranis' hadith."
أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَأْمُرُنَا بِالْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ وَكَانَ يَغْسِلُ هُوَ قَدْمَيْهِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ كَيْفَ تَأْمُرُ بِالْمَسْحِ وَأَنْتَ تَغْسِلُ؟ فَقَالَ بِئْسَ مَا لِي إِنْ كَانَ مَهْنَاةً لَكُمْ وَمَأْثَمَةً عَلَيَّ قَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَفْعَلُهُ وَيَأْمُرُ بِهِ وَلَكِنِّي امْرُؤٌ حُبِّبَ إِلِيَّ الْوُضُوءُ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ الزَّهْرَانِيِّ

1.302 [Machine] Friday Ritual Bath
١۔٣٠٢ بَابُ الْغُسْلِ لِلْجُمُعَةِ
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When one of you comes to Friday prayer, let him perform ablution."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ
He who comes for Jumu'a he should take a bath. (Using translation from Muslim 844b)
عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَنْ جَاءَ مِنْكُمْ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, while standing on the minbar, "Whoever among you comes for Jumu'ah, let him perform ablution." Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us, he said: Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ya'qub informed us, he said: Ibrahim ibn Abi Talib informed us, he said: Muhammad ibn Rafi' informed us, he said: Abdul-Razzaq narrated it from both of them, in a continuation of the same wording.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ مَنْ جَاءَ مِنْكُمُ الْجُمُعَةَ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ 1400 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ فَذَكَرَهُ عَنْهُمَا جَمِيعًا مُدْرَجًا عَلَى اللَّفْظِ الْأَوْلِ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The ghusl (ritual bath) on Friday is obligatory for every person who has reached puberty. It is recommended to recite the Surah Al-Qunut in it." In another narration by Ibn Wahb, it is mentioned that the ghusl on Friday is recommended.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ غُسْلُ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاجِبٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُحْتَلِمٍ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ الْقَعْنَبِيِّ وَفِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ الْغُسْلُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ
1.303 [Machine] The indication that performing ghusl on Friday is a recommended act.
١۔٣٠٣ بَابُ الدَّلَالَةِ عَلَى أَنَّ الْغُسْلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ سُنَّةُ اخْتِيَارٍ
One of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque on a Friday, when 'Umar bin al Khattab ؓ was addressing the people. 'Umar said: What time is this? He said: 'O Ameer al-Mu'mineen, I have just come from the marketplace. I heard the call and I did not do anything more than wudoo', 'Umar ؓ said: Wudoo’ too! You know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to enjoin ghusl! (Using translation from Aḥmad 199)
أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَعُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يَخْطُبُ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ أَيَّةُ سَاعَةٍ هَذِهِ؟ فَقَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ انْقَلَبْتُ مِنَ السُّوقِ فَسَمِعْتُ النِّدَاءَ فَمَا زِدْتُ عَلَى أَنْ تَوَضَّأْتُ وَأَقْبَلَتُ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ الْوُضُوءُ أَيْضًا؟ وَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْغُسْلِ
[Machine] That Umar ibn Al-Khattab was delivering a sermon on Friday when a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ from the early emigrants came to him. Umar asked him, "What time is it?" He replied, "I have been busy all day and did not return to my family until I heard the call to prayer, so I did not go beyond performing ablution." Umar asked, "Did you perform full ablution as well?" And you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command to perform the ritual bath.
أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ بَيْنَا هُوَ قَائِمٌ لِلْخُطْبَةِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ الْأَوَّلِينَ فَنَادَاهُ عُمَرُ أَيَّةُ سَاعَةٍ هَذِهِ؟ فَقَالَ إِنِّي شُغِلْتُ الْيَوْمَ فَلَمْ أَنْقَلِبْ إِلَى أَهْلِي حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ التَّأْذِينَ فَلَمْ أَزِدْ عَلَى أَنْ تَوَضَّأْتُ قَالَ عُمَرُ الْوُضُوءُ أَيْضًا؟ وَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْغُسْلِ
[Machine] You hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "When one of you comes to the Friday prayer, let him perform ablution."
تَسْمَعْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ
[Machine] "People used to look after themselves and they would go around in their own appearance. It was said to them, 'If you bathe, you will be purified in accordance with the teachings of Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Ansari.'"
كَانَ النَّاسُ عُمَّالَ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَكَانُوا يَرُوحُونَ بِهَيْئَتِهِمْ فَقِيلَ لَهُمْ لَوِ اغْتَسَلْتُمْ مُخَرَّجٌ فِي الصَّحِيحَيْنِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ
Some people of Iraq came and said: Ibn 'Abbas, do you regard taking a bath on Friday as obligatory ? He said: No, it is only a means of cleanliness, and is better for one who washes oneself. Anyone who does not take a bath, it is not essential for him. I inform you how the bath (on Friday) commenced. The people were poor and used to wear woolen clothes, and would carry loads on their backs. Their mosque was small and its rood was lowered down. It was a sort of trellis of vine. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once came out on a hot day and the people perspired profusely in the woolen clothes so much so that foul smell emitted from them and it caused trouble to each other. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ found the foul smell, he said: O people, when this day (Friday) comes, you should take bath and every one should anoint the best oil and perfume one has. Ibn 'Abbas then said: Then Allah, the Exalted, provided wealth (to the people) and they wore clothes other than the woolen, and were spared from work, and their mosque became vast. The foul smell that caused trouble to them became non-existent. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 353)
لَا وَلَكِنَّهُ أَطْهَرُ وَخَيْرٌ لِمَنِ اغْتَسَلَ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَغْتَسِلْ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ بِوَاجِبٍ وَسَأَخْبِرُكُمْ كَيْفَ بَدَأَ الْغُسْلُ كَانَ النَّاسُ مَجْهُودِينَ يَلْبَسُونَ الصُّوفَ وَيَعْمَلُونَ عَلَى ظُهُورِهِمْ وَكَانَ مَسْجِدُهُمْ ضَيِّقًا مُقَارِبَ السَّقْفِ إِنَّمَا هُوَ عَرِيشٌ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي يَوْمٍ حَارٍّ وَعَرِقَ النَّاسُ فِي ذَلِكَ الصُّوفِ حَتَّى ثَارَتْ مِنْهُمْ رِيَاحٌ آذَى بِذَلِكَ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا فَلَمَّا وَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تِلْكَ الرِّيحَ قَالَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِذَا كَانَ هَذَا الْيَوْمُ فَاغْتَسِلُوا وَلْيَمَسَّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَفْضَلَ مَا يَجِدُ مِنْ دُهْنِهِ وَطِيبِهِ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ثُمَّ جَاءَ اللهُ بِالْخَيْرِ وَلَبِسُوا غَيْرَ الصُّوفِ وَكُفُوا الْعَمَلَ وَوُسِّعَ مَسْجِدُهُمْ وَذَهَبَ بَعْضُ الَّذِي كَانَ يُؤْذِي بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا مِنَ الْعَرَقِ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever performs ablution with it, his sins will be forgiven and he will be rewarded for the obligatory prayer. And whoever performs a complete bath, it is better. And this hadith with this wording is rare from this perspective. It is only known from the narration of Al-Hasan and others."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ فَبِهَا وَنِعْمَتْ وَيُجْزِئُ مِنَ الْفَرِيضَةِ وَمَنِ اغْتَسَلَ فَالْغُسْلُ أَفْضَلُ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ وَإِنَّمَا يُعْرَفُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ الْحَسَنِ وَغَيْرِهِ
If any one of you performs ablution (on Friday) that is all right; and if any of you takes a bath, that is better. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 354)
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَبِهَا وَنِعْمَتْ وَمَنِ اغْتَسَلَ فَهُوَ أَفْضَلُ وَهَكَذَا رُوِيَ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever performs ablution on the day of Friday, it is good and beneficial for them. And whoever performs a full bath, the bath is superior and the same goes for it."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَبِهَا وَنِعْمَتْ وَمَنِ اغْتَسَلَ فَالْغُسْلُ أَفْضَلُ وَكَذَلِكَ
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ that whoever performs ablution, he should do it properly and with gratitude. And whoever takes a bath, bathing is preferable. This hadith was narrated by Bakr ibn Bakkār from Abū Hurrah through its chain of narrators. Abu 'Abdullah al-Ḥāfiz reported it to us and he said that Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Sakhṭawayh reported it to us, who reported it from Muhammad ibn Manda al-Asbahānī, who reported it from Bakr ibn Bakkār, who reported it from Abū Hurrah. Another narration of this hadith is reported from another chain of narrators from the Prophet ﷺ , and in its chain of narrators there is a discrepancy (nazhar).
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ فَبِهَا وَنِعْمَتْ وَمَنِ اغْتَسَلَ فَالْغُسْلُ أَفْضَلُ 1413 وَرَوَاهُ بَكْرُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي حُرَّةَ بِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَلَمْ يَشُكَّ أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَخْتَوَيْهِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْدَهَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا بَكْرُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ ثنا أَبُو حُرَّةَ فَذَكَرَهُ وَرُوِيَ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَفِي إِسْنَادِهِ نَظَرٌ
