1. Purification (21/28)
We set out on a journey. One of our people was hurt by a stone, that injured his head. He then had a sexual dream. He asked his fellow travelers: Do you find a concession for me to perform tayammum? They said: We do not find any concession for you while you can use water. He took a bath and died. When we came to the Prophet ﷺ, the incident was reported to him. He said: They killed him, may Allah kill them! Could they not ask when they did not know? The cure for ignorance is inquiry. It was enough for him to perform tayammum and to pour some drops of water or bind a bandage over the wound (the narrator Musa was doubtful); then he should have wiped over it and washed the rest of his body. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 336)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that whoever leaves even a hair's breadth of his body unwashed from ritual impurity, it will be punished with the fire. Ali said, "Therefore, I have become an enemy of my hair." This hadith and its meaning necessitate the proper washing of it. The book also necessitates the use of tayammum for what cannot be washed. By Allah's guidance, the apparent meaning of the book indicates the use of whatever water one finds, and then resorting to tayammum if one cannot find water. It has been narrated from Ishaq from Isa bin Yunus from Abdah bin Abi Lubabah, and it is mentioned about Abdah bin Abi Lubabah that he said that he would perform wudu and tayammum in a state of major impurity if he could not find water except what is required for wudu. Similarly, Ma'mar bin Rashid said the same, and Hasan and Zuhri would say the same.
1.248 [Machine] Wiping on socks and shoes
[Machine] If there is no bandage on the wound, then wash what is around it and do not wash it. With its chain of transmission, Al-Walid said: Al-Walid informed me that Hisham ibn Al-Ghaz said that he heard Nafi' narrate from Abdullah ibn Umar that he used to say: "Whoever has a bandaged wound should perform ablution and wipe over the bandage, and wash what is around the bandage." With its chain of transmission, Al-Walid said: Sa'id informed me, from Sulaiman ibn Musa, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, that his big toe was injured, so he put a sock on it and used to perform ablution over it. With its chain of transmission, Al-Walid said: Yahya ibn Hamza narrated to me, from Musa ibn Yasar, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, that he performed ablution and his hand was bandaged, so he wiped over the bandage and washed the rest of his body. This is from the narrations of Ibn Umar, which is authentic. Abu Sa'id ibn Abu Amr informed us, Abu al-Abbas al-Asammu narrated to me, and I am al-Rabi' who said: Al-Shafi'i said: And a narration has been reported from Ali that one of his fingers was broken, so the Prophet ﷺ ordered him to wipe over the bandages. If I knew its chain of transmission to be authentic, I would have mentioned it, which means: what.
[Machine] One of my teeth broke, so I asked the Prophet ﷺ . He said, "Wipe over the bandage." Amr ibn Khalid al-Wasiti, who is known for his knowledge of Hadith, was known for fabricating Hadiths. Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Yahya ibn Ma'in, and others among the scholars of Hadith have accused him of fabricating Hadiths. He is also attributed to Waki' ibn Jarrah as fabricating Hadiths. He was living in our neighborhood, and when he was caught, he turned to be a middleman, and Omar ibn Musa ibn Wajih followed him in that path. They both narrated from Zaid ibn Ali similar to what he fabricated. Omar ibn Musa is considered mursal and attributed to fabrication, and we seek refuge in Allah from being misled. It has also been narrated with another unknown chain of transmission from Zaid ibn Ali, and it is not considered anything. Abu al-Walid Khalid ibn Yazid al-Makki also narrated it with another weak chain of transmission from Zaid ibn Ali, which is also mursal, and it is not proven from the Prophet ﷺ anything in this matter. The most authentic narration on this subject is the Hadith of Ata' ibn Abi Rabah, which has been mentioned previously. He is not considered strong, and the saying of the jurists among the tabi'in is in line with what we have narrated from Ibn Umar regarding wiping over the bandage. And Allah knows best.

[Machine] Regarding scratches that a person may have, if it increases the requirement for ablution or full bathing due to major impurity, and there is a bandage on the affected area, then it is said: If one fears that the water might harm the wound, they should wipe over the bandage. But if they do not fear any harm, then they should wash it.
[Machine] I heard Ata ibn Abi Rabah, Mujahid ibn Jabr, and Tawus saying about a man who injured his finger. They said that he should wash the blood from the wound, then tie it with a bandage. After that, he should wipe over the bandage when performing ablution. If the blood seeps through the bandage until it becomes visible, he should replace it with a new one, and then wipe over it when performing ablution.
[Machine] I had a severe wound from the plague and I contracted impurity. So, I asked Abu Majlaz and he said, "Wipe it, as it will suffice you."
[Machine] I asked Ibrahim An-Nakha'i, "My hand is broken and there is blood, dirt, and scabs on it. It may have become impure. He said, "Wipe it with water, as Allah Most High exonerates with an excuse and washes it with His command." Al-Walid narrated to us from Sa'id from Qatadah who said, "Do not put bandages and casts on a wound or fracture when it is in the place of ablution until a person performs ablution for prayer and washes the area of the wound for the blood that appears."
[Machine] The bandages and splints should not be placed on the wound or fracture if it is in the area of ablution until he performs ablution for prayer, and washes the area of that wound because blood has appeared from it.
1.249 [Machine] The valid resident performs ablution for obligatory prayers, funeral prayer, and Eid prayer, and does not perform tayammum.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah does not accept the prayer of any one of you if he is in a state of impurity until he performs ablution."
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah does not accept a prayer without purification, and He does not accept charity from unlawfully earned wealth. Abu Al-Malih is the son of Usama bin Umayr Al-Hudhali."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Woe to the heels from the Fire." This is a narration from Abu Abdullah. Abu Sa'id added to his narration that Aisha commanded him to perform ablution (wudhu) and she said to him,
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "Its soil has been made pure for me as a means of purification when water is not available."
[Machine] He said, "One should not pray the funeral prayer unless he is in a state of purity, and likewise."
1.250 [Machine] The traveler performs dry ablution first if he does not find water, then prays without repeating it if he finds water later.
[Machine] Two men went on a journey and the time for prayer arrived, but they did not have any water with them. So they performed dry ablution on a clean surface and prayed. Then they found water at the time of prayer, so one of them repeated the ablution and prayer, but the other did not. They both went to the Messenger of Allah and informed him about this. He said to the one who did not repeat the ablution and prayer: "You have followed the Sunnah and your prayer is accepted." He said to the one who repeated the ablution and prayer: "You will be rewarded twice." This narration was reported by others from Abdullah bin Nafi', from Layth, from Umair bin Abi Najiyyah, from Bakr bin Sawadah, from Ata' bin Yasar, from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , with a connected chain of narrators.
This narration was also reported by Abu Abdullah Al-Haafiz, from Abu Bakr bin Ishaq, from Ahmad bin Ibrahim, from Yahya bin Bakir, from Layth, from Umarah bin Abi Najiyyah. In my book, I mentioned it as Umair bin Abi Najiyyah, and the correct opinion is that it is Umarah bin Abi Najiyyah.
This narration was also reported by Abu Ali Al-Rudhbari, from Abu Bakr bin Dasa, from Abu Dawud, from Al-Qa'nabi, from Ibn Lah'iyah, from Bakr bin Sawadah, from Abu Abdullah, the freed slave of Isma'il bin Ubaid, from Ata' bin Yasar, regarding two companions of the Prophet ﷺ with the same meaning.

He also said, "When one of you wakes up, do not put his hand in the ablution water until he washes it, for he does not know where his hand has spent the night." This hadith was narrated by Muslim in the authentic collection from Muhammad ibn Rafi' from Abdur-Razzaq who said, "Az-Zuhri said, 'Imam Shafi'i said in old times, if a person kneads impure dough with it meaning with najis (impure) water, and then a animal eats it and feeds it to other animals, Imam Ahmad said, 'We have narrated from Ata and Mujahid that one should feed it to a chicken.'"

Abu Ahmad said, "This is how Ibn Muslim narrated it from his book." Suwaid reported from Nu'h ibn Dhakwan, from Al-Hasan, from Anas, who said, "A servant girl made dough for them in a container, and her hand was pricked by a small piece of iron in the dough. So, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about it, and he said, 'Do not eat it.' Abu Ahmad and Suwaid, the one who mixed this narration, mentioned this hadith once."

Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to visit me while I was sick and unconscious. He performed ablution and sprinkled the remaining water on me and I became conscious and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The sheikh (Ahmad ibn Hanbal) said, 'Its chain of narration is not strong, but we have narrated it from Yunus ibn Ubayd that he said, 'It is possible that Muhammad ibn Sirin did not find a handkerchief, so he wiped his face with his garment.' And Abu Saeed ibn Abi Amr informed us that Abu Al-Abbas narrated to us, who is Rabee', who said, 'Al-Shafi'i said, 'If someone asks, "From where did it become impure?" It can be said, "It was before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution. And undoubtedly, some impurity may touch his clothes during ablution, and it is not known whether he washed his clothes or changed them. And I do not know if any Muslim did this, but it would be reasonable if the water did not touch impurity, it would not become impure."

[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he forbade urinating in constant water and bathing in it for those in a state of impurity. Abu al-Hasan ibn Abdan narrated to us, from Ahmad ibn Ubayd al-Saffar, from Ubayd ibn Sharik, from Yahya ibn Bukayr, from Al-Layth, from Ibn Ajlan, from Abu al-Zinad. He mentioned it, and it has been said that it is narrated from him from Abu al-Zinad with a different wording.
