bayhaqi:1120Abū Ḥāzim al-Ḥāfiẓ > Abū Aḥmad al-Ḥāfiẓ

[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he performed ablution, he wiped his face with the edge of his garment. Abu Al-Abbas said, "I heard Abu Raja' say, 'Ahmad ibn Hanbal asked me about this hadith, so I wrote it down.' The sheikh (Ahmad ibn Hanbal) said, 'Its chain of narration is not strong, but we have narrated it from Yunus ibn Ubayd that he said, 'It is possible that Muhammad ibn Sirin did not find a handkerchief, so he wiped his face with his garment.' And Abu Saeed ibn Abi Amr informed us that Abu Al-Abbas narrated to us, who is Rabee', who said, 'Al-Shafi'i said, 'If someone asks, "From where did it become impure?" It can be said, "It was before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution. And undoubtedly, some impurity may touch his clothes during ablution, and it is not known whether he washed his clothes or changed them. And I do not know if any Muslim did this, but it would be reasonable if the water did not touch impurity, it would not become impure."
