1. Purification (16/28)
[Machine] He heard Abu Huraira saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a horseman ahead to Najd, and he brought a man from Banu Hanifa named Thumamah bin Athal Al-Yamama. They tied him to one of the pillars of the mosque with a rope made from the curtains of the mosque. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned the hadith and said, "Release Thumamah." So he went to a nearby date palm tree, performed ablution, entered the mosque, and said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." And he mentioned the rest of the hadith.
[Machine] He came to the Prophet ﷺ and embraced Islam. The Prophet ﷺ commanded him to perform ritual ablution with water and sidr leaves, like this.
[Machine] That his grandfather, Qais bin Asim, came to the Prophet ﷺ wanting to convert, so the Prophet ﷺ ordered him to perform ablution with water and sidr (a type of tree) and with their meanings.
[Machine] That his grandfather Qais ibn 'Asim came to the Prophet ﷺ and he ordered him to perform ghusl with the water of sidr. And Abu Abdullah al-Hafith informed us, and Abu An-Nadr al-Faqih informed me, and Muadh ibn Najdah Al-Qurashi informed us, and Qabeesah ibn 'Uqbah narrated it in this way.
I have embraced Islam. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: Remove from yourself the hair that grew during of unbelief, saying "shave them". He further says that another person (other than the grandfather of 'Uthaim) reported to him that the Prophet ﷺ said to another person who accompanied him: Remove from yourself the hair that grew during the period of unbelief and get yourself circumcised. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 356)

'Urwa has narrated it on the authority of 'A'isha that when Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a bath because of sexual intercourse, he first washed his hands before dipping one of them into the basin, and then performed ablu- tion as is done for prayer. (Using translation from Muslim 316d)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ghusl to cleanse himself from major impurity. He washed his hands three times, then performed wudu for prayer. After that, he inserted his hand into a vessel of water and passed his fingers through the roots of his hair until it seemed to him that he had thoroughly cleaned his scalp. Then, he poured water onto his head, allowing it to flow over the rest of his body.

[Machine] Aisha, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , used to start washing herself by using her right hand and pouring water on it. Then, she would wash it. After that, she would pour water on the area that she needed to wash using her right hand, and she would wash it with her left hand. She would continue doing this until she finished, and I think she also poured water on her head.

I placed water near the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to take a bath because of sexual intercourse. He washed the palms of his bands twice or thrice and then put his hand In the basin and poured water over his private parts and washed them with his left hand. He then struck his hand against the earth and rubbed it with force and then performed ablution for the prayer and then poured three handfuls of water on his head and then washed his whole body after which he moved aside from that place and washed his feet, and then I brought a towel (so that he may wipe his body). but he returned it. (Using translation from Muslim 317a)
"When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Ghusl from Janabah, he would start by washing his hands, then he would pour water with his right hand onto his left and wash his private part, then he would strike his hand on the ground then wipe it then wash it. Then he would perform Wudu' as for prayer, then he would pour water on his head and all of his body. Then he would move and wash his feet." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 419)
The Prophet ﷺ took the bath of Janaba. (sexual relation or wet dream). He first cleaned his private parts with his hand, and then rubbed it (that hand) on the wall (earth) and washed it. Then he performed ablution like that for the prayer, and after the bath he washed his feet. (Using translation from Bukhārī 260)
If you want, I can certainly show you the marks of the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the wall where he took a bath because of sexual defilement. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 244)
1.185 [Machine] Performing ablution before bathing
[Machine] The Prophet Mohammed ﷺ used to start by washing his hands, then perform ablution for prayer. After that, he would dip his hands into water and run his fingers through his hair roots. When he felt that his skin was well-moistened, he would pour three handfuls of water over his head. Then he would wash the rest of his body. This hadith is narrated by Hisham bin Urwah in Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to begin by washing his hands when he performed ghusl (ritual bath) from janabah (major ritual impurity), then he would pour water with his right hand onto his left hand and wash his private parts. Then he would perform wudu (ritual ablution) for prayer, and then he would take water and insert his fingers into the roots of his hair until he felt that he had completely cleaned himself. He would then pour three handfuls of water over his head and then pour water over the rest of his body. Finally, he would wash his feet. This narration is strange and authentic.
1.186 [Machine] The License for Delaying Washing the Feet in Wudu' Until One Finishes Washing.
I screened the Prophet ﷺ while he was taking a bath of Janaba. He washed his hands, poured water from his right hand over his left and washed his private parts. Then he rubbed his hand over a wall or the earth, and performed ablution similar to that for the prayer but did not wash his feet. Then he poured water over his body, shifted from that place, and washed his feet. (Using translation from Bukhārī 281)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to begin by washing his hands after exiting a state of major ritual impurity. Then, he would take water with his right hand and pour it over his left hand, washing his private parts until they were clean. Then, he would rinse his mouth and nostrils three times, wash his face three times, and his arms three times. After that, he would pour water over his head and body. When he finished, he would wash his feet.

Whenever the Prophet ﷺ took a bath after Janaba he started by washing his hands and then performed ablution like that for the prayer. After that he would put his fingers in water and move the roots of his hair with them, and then pour three handfuls of water over his head and then pour water all over his body. (Using translation from Bukhārī 248)
(on the authority of his father) ʿAisha said, "Whenever Messenger of Allah ﷺ took the bath of Janaba, he cleaned his hands and performed ablution like that for prayer and then took a bath and rubbed his hair, till he felt that the whole skin of the head had become wet, then he would pour water thrice and wash the rest of the body." ʿAisha further said, "I and Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to take a bath from a single water container, from which we took water simultaneously." (Using translation from Bukhārī 272)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to perform ablution from impurity, then he would enter his right hand into the water and rub it on the right side of his head, following the roots of his hair. Then he would do the same with the left side of his head using his left hand. He would continue doing this until he covered his entire scalp. After that, he would pour water over his head three times.
I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: ʿWhoever leaves a space the size of a hair when doing ghusl for janabah and does not make water reach it, Allah will punish him with such and such in the Fire.” ‘Ali ؓ said: From that time I disliked my hair. (Using translation from Aḥmad 727)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Under every hair is impurity, so wash the hair and clean the skin underneath it." It was narrated by Harith bin Waji'i and Harith bin Waji'i spoke about it.

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a bath because of sexual intercourse, he poured three handfuls of water upon his head. Hasan b. Muhammad said to him (the narrator): My hair is thick. Upon this Jabir observed. I said to him: O son of my brother, the hair of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was thicker than your hair and these were more fine (than yours).
The people contended amongst themselves in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with regard to bathing. Some of them said: We wash our heads like this and this. Upon this the Messenger ﷺ said: As for me I pour three handfuls of water upon my head. (Using translation from Muslim 327a)
[Machine] It was mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about performing ghusl from janabah (major impurity). So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "As for me, I pour water on my head three times like this." Zuhair described it by saying, "He cupped the palms of his hands and poured water from what is higher than the sky onto them, and poured it from what is lower than the earth onto his back."
1.189 [Machine] Water Overflowing onto His Entire Body
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ prepared water for his ritual bath from impurity. He poured it onto his right hand and washed it, then poured it onto his left hand and washed it, then poured it onto his right foot and washed it. Then he struck the ground with his hands. Then he performed ablution for prayer. He poured water onto his head three times and then washed the rest of his body. After that, he moved away from the place of bathing and washed his feet. I offered him a towel, but he did not take it and instead shook his hand. Hafs said that Al-A'mash said, "I mentioned this to Ibrahim, and he said that it was disliked out of fear of setting a precedent."

[Machine] Whenever he performed a ritual ablution from major impurity, he would splash water on his face and insert his finger into his ear, while standing.
[Machine] He used to pour water over his eyes when he performed a ritual wash from major impurity. Malik said: "There is no specific action required for this." Al-Shafi'i said: "There is no need to pour water over the eyes because they are not distinct parts of the body." The teacher said: "It has been narrated as a statement of the Prophet, but its chain of narration is not authentic."

[Machine] I prepared a washing for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he performed ablution from impurity. Then, he poured water onto his right hand with his left hand and washed his hands three times. After that, he poured water over his private part and washed it. Then, he said, "With his hand, wipe the wall or the ground," so he wiped it. Then, he rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nose, washed his face and arms, poured water over his head, and then poured water over the rest of his body. After that, he moved aside and washed his feet. Then, I brought him a garment and he said, "With his hand, like this," meaning to return it.

[Machine] I heard Jubair bin Mut'im saying that the mention of washing after sexual impurity was mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "As for me, I pour water on my head three times, as mentioned in the book of Muslim from the narration of Shu'bah."
[Machine] Some people came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him about the ritual bath after sexual impurity. They said, "We are in a cold land." He replied, "It is sufficient for one of you to pour three handfuls of water over his head." This narration is from the Hadith of Ja'far in Sahih Muslim.
[Machine] The people of Taif said, "O Messenger of Allah, our land is a cold land, so what is sufficient for us in terms of ritual purification after sexual impurity?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "As for me, I pour water three times over my head."
"I said, O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman with tight braids. Should I undo them when I take a bath to cleanse myself from the state of sexual impurity?" He said: "Rather it is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water over yourself, and you will be purified," or he said: "In that case you would have become purified." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 603)
[Machine] He used to say, "There is no ablution better than washing when one avoids sexual intercourse."

[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey and he mentioned a narration. He then called the people to prayer. When he finished the prayer, a man who had been staying behind did not pray with the congregation. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "What prevented you, O so-and-so, from praying with the people?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah, I was in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) and had no water." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You should use clean soil, as it will suffice for you." The narration continued and said, "The last part of this incident is that the one who was in a state of major ritual impurity was given a vessel of water, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told him, 'Go and pour it over yourself; you have a release from your obligation.' This narration is in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim from the hadith of Awf ibn Abi Jamilah."
[Machine] "I saw Abu Dharr mentioning a hadith regarding janaba (major ritual impurity) and the difficulty it causes, and the lack of water. He said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Oh Abu Dharr, the clean sand is sufficient for you even if you do not find water for ten years. And when you find water, pour it over your body.' Yunus bin Habib, also known as Abu Hafs, narrated that Yazid bin Zurai' narrated from Khalid al-Hathaa from Abu Qilaba from Amr bin Bujdan who said, 'I heard Abu Dharr meaning this.'"
[Machine] The prayer was fifty times and washing from sexual impurity was seven times, and washing clothes from urine was seven times. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept asking until he made the prayer five times, and washing from sexual impurity once, and washing clothes from urine once. Ash-Shafi'i said about what was narrated from him, "As for what is narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that there is impurity under every hair, so wash the hair and clean the skin, for it is not confirmed."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "There is impurity under every hair, so wash the hair and cleanse the skin." Al-Harith bin Wajih did this in a distinctive manner. Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz reported to us that Abu Abbas Muhammad bin Ya'qub said, "I am Abbas bin Muhammad." He said, "I asked Yahya bin Ma'in about Al-Harith bin Wajih, and he said, 'His hadith is not reliable according to others who are knowledgeable in the hadith of Bukhari, Abu Dawood Al-Sijistani, and others. It is only narrated from Al-Hasan from the Prophet, ﷺ , as a Mursal hadith, and from Al-Hasan from Abu Hurairah as a Mawquf hadith. It was also transmitted by Al-Nakha'i, which is said to have been taken by Al-Shafi'i in the narration of Al-Za'farani and others from him, but it includes what is apparent and what is internal in the nose and mouth, which resembles the inner parts of the eyes and ears.' He said, 'Therefore, whoever spoke about it with Al-Shafi'i, the analogy is not to repeat it, but we have taken the narration from Ibn Abbas.'"

Asma asked the Messenger of Allah about bathing after ones's period. He said: "One of you should take her water and lote leaves, and purify herself well, or thoroughly. Then she should pour water over her head and rub it vigorously so that the water reaches the roots of her hair. Then she should take a piece of cotton perfumed with musk and purify herself with it." Asma said: "How should I purify myself with it?" He said: "Subhan Allah! Purify yourself with it!" 'Aishah said, as if whispering to her: "Wipe away the traces of blood with it." Then she (Asma) asked him about bathing to cleanse oneself from sexual impurity. He said: "One of you should take her water, and purify herself, and purify herself well, or thoroughly. She should pour water over her head and rub it so that the water reaches the roots of her hair, then she should pour water over her body." 'Aishah said: "How good were the women of the Ansar! For they did not let shyness keep them from understanding their religion properly." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 642)

Jumay' ibn Umayr, one of the sons of Banu Taym Allah ibn Tha'labah, said: Accompanied by my mother and aunt I entered upon Aisha. One of them asked her: How did you do while taking a bath? Aisha replied: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution (in the beginning) as he did for prayer. He then poured (water) upon his head three times. But we poured water upon our heads five times due to plaits. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 241)
[Machine] "He said to mix it with water, do not mix it with a little bit of fire to preserve it."
1.196 [Machine] Abandoning the woman trimming her hair when she learns that water has reached the roots of her hair
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman with extremely tangled hair or she said, 'I have head lice.' Should I undo my hair for Janabah (major ritual impurity) or menstruation?" He replied, "No, it is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water on your head, then you have become purified."
