I felt greatly distressed by the frequent flowing of prostatic fluid. For this reason I used to take a bath very often. I asked the apostle of Allah ﷺ about this. He replied: Ablution will be sufficient for you because of this. I asked: Messenger of Allah, what should I do if it smears my clothes. He replied: It is sufficient if you take a handful of water and sprinkle it on your clothe when you find it has smeared it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 210)

Amir said, "By Allah, I have never seen anything like what I have seen today, not even hidden scars on his body." Sahl overheard this and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed about it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Do you accuse him of anything?" They replied, "Yes, Amir ibn Rabee'ah passed by him while he was performing ablution and made that statement." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Amir ibn Rabee'ah and expressed his anger towards him, saying, "Why would one of you kill his brother? Shouldn't you have blessed him? Perform ablution for him." So, Amir ibn Rabee'ah performed ablution for Sahl, and Sahl continued his journey with the caravan unharmed.

[Machine] And by Allah, I have never seen a day like today, nor a concealed skin being uncovered. So Sahl was informed that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had arrived. It was said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, do you have any rights over Sahil ibn Hunayf?" He replied, "Do you accuse him of something?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah, 'Amir ibn Rabee'ah saw him bathing and said, 'By Allah, I have never seen a day like today, nor a concealed skin being uncovered.'" So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called 'Amir ibn Rabee'ah and became angry with him, saying, "Why should any one of you kill his brother? If you come across this situation, then conduct a purification for him." 'Amir washed Sahil's body and then they proceeded with the caravan. Ibn Shihab said, "The bathing that our scholars told us about is that a person who is unable to pour water over his body is given a jug that is filled with water, and he holds it elevated from the ground. The one who is helping him dips his right hand into the water and pours it over his face in one pour from the jug. Then he puts his left hand into the water and washes his right hand in one pour from the jug. Then he puts his right hand into the water and washes his left hand in one pour from the jug up to the elbows. Then he puts both of his hands into the water and pours it over his chest in one pour from the jug. Then he puts his left hand into the water and pours it over the back of his right hand in one pour from the jug. Then he puts his right hand into the water and pours it over the left elbow in one pour from the jug, which is still in his hands, all the way up to his neck. Then he does the same with his left elbow. After that, he dips the inside of his right cloth into the water and then the person holding the jug pours it over his right knee in one pour from the jug. Then the person holding the jug pours it over his left knee in one pour from the jug. Finally, he tilts the jug over the ground."

[Machine] I have not seen any hidden camel skin, so I struck it till the pain prevented me from offering my prayers. So I informed the Prophet ﷺ about it and he ordered him to be washed. The Prophet ﷺ went with him till he entered the place of washing and his uncle Mughira bin Shu'ba followed him. The man was washed while he was unconscious and then he regained his consciousness. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever wants to see a man from the people of the Fire, then he may look at this (man)." Then the Prophet ﷺ praised Allah and said, "Allah saved him (the dead man) from the fire and made him a lesson for the people."

So the Messenger of Allah called 'Amir and became angry with him and said to him, "Why does one of you kill his brother and not cleanse himself for him?" So 'Amir was washed and Sahal continued with the group.

[Machine] Al-Qa'nabi narrated from Malik, from Muhammad ibn Abi Umamah ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf, that he heard his father say: Sahl ibn Hunayf performed ghusl (ritual washing) in the kharrar (a well or pool) and removed a garment that he had on. Al-Aamir ibn Rabeea looked at him and said, "I have never seen today, nor have I seen the skin of a virgin, as beautiful as yours." So Sahl became distracted and his condition worsened. They informed the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , that Sahl was in a state of distress and had an unpleasant odor. So the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , went to him and Sahl informed him about Al-Aamir's comment. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Why would one of you kill his brother? Would you not have blessed him by performing ablution for him?" So Al-Aamir performed ablution for him, and Sahl accompanied the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , without any harm.

It was already late at night, so they disliked waking him up and feared the darkness of the night and the creatures of the earth for him. They left without awakening him. When he woke up in the morning, he asked about her. They said, "O Messenger of Allah, we came to inform you, but we found you sleeping. We disliked waking you up and feared the darkness of the night and the creatures of the earth for you, so we left." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to her grave, prayed for her, and raised his voice in takbeer four times.

Sahal b. Hunaif stood up on the Day of Siffin and said: O ye people, blame yourselves (for want of discretion) ; we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Day of Hudaibiya. If we had thought it fit to fight, we could fight. This was in the truce between the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the polytheists. Umar b. Khattab came, approached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, aren't we fighting for truth and they for falsehood? He replied: By all means. He asked: Are not those killed from our side in Paradise and those killed. from their side in the Fire? He replied: Yes. He said: Then why should we put a blot upon our religion and return, while Allah has not decided the issue between them and ourselves? He said: Son of Khattab, I am the Messenger of Allah. Allah will never ruin me. (The narrator said): Umar went away, but he could not contain himself with rage. So he approached Abu Bakr and said: 'Abu Bakr, aren't we fighting for truth and they for falsehood? He replied: Yes. He asked: Aren't those killed from our side in Paradise and those killed from their side in the Fire? He replied: Why not? He (then) said: Why should we then disgrace our religion and return while God has not yet decided the issue between them and ourselves? Abu Bakr said: Son of Khattab, verily, he is the Messenger of Allah, and Allah will never ruin him. (The narrator continued): At this (a Sura of) the Qur'an (giving glad tidings of the victory) was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He sent for Umar and made him read it. He asked: Is (this truce) a victory? He (the Messenger of Allah) replied: Yes. At this Umar was pleased, and returned. (Using translation from Muslim 1785a)

[Machine] My father used to be a companion of Abu Darda in Damascus and he informed me that he was a man from the companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ known as Ibn al-Hanzaliyyah. He was a man who constantly engaged in prayer and rarely interacted with people. Whenever he prayed, it was as if he was conversing with Allah. After finishing his prayer, he would engage in the remembrance and glorification of Allah until he returned to his family. One day, he passed by us while we were with Abu Darda, and he greeted him. Abu Darda asked him for a word that would benefit us and not harm him. He replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out a secret mission, and I participated in it. A man came and sat down in the gathering where the Prophet ﷺ was present. He said to a man beside him, 'If you saw us when we encounter the enemy and one person stabs another, what would you do?' The man replied, 'Take it, and I am the servant of Ghuwariyyah. What do you think?' He said, 'I can only see that such an act would invalidate the reward.' The conversation continued until the Prophet ﷺ heard it and said, 'Glory be to Allah! There is no harm in being rewarded and praised.' Abu Darda was delighted by this and began to declare, 'You heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, didn't you?' He said, 'Yes.' He repeated this statement several times, while raising his head towards him, 'I would make him sit on my lap.'

[Machine] My father was a companion of Abu Darda in Damascus, and he informed me that there was a man from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ known as Ibn Hanthalah. He was a man who would rarely socialize with people, for he would say, "It is only prayer when I am present, and when I depart, it is only glorification and exaltation of Allah." Until he would reach his family. One day, he passed by us while we were with Abu Darda, and he greeted him. Abu Darda said to him, "Say a word that benefits us and does not harm you." He replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a secret expedition, and I participated. A man came and sat in the gathering where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was. He said to a man beside him, 'If you saw us when we meet the enemy and so-and-so stabbed such-and-such, what do you see?' The man replied, 'Take it, and I am the Gufari servant. What do you see?' He said, 'I do not see anything except that his reward has been nullified.' Another man said, 'The last thing I see is harm.' They disputed over it until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard them and said, 'Glory be to Allah! There is no harm in being rewarded and praised.' Abu Darda was delighted by that and started saying, 'Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' He replied, 'Yes, indeed.' He even continued saying it while raising his head towards the sky."

Another person said, 'The last thing I would see is any harm.' He was known as the son of Hanzhaliyya. This man would pass by Abu Darda and stop to speak to him. Abu Darda would say to him, "Tell us a hadith that benefits us and does not harm you." So he narrated to him the following incident: One day, I went out on a military expedition and I fought a man from the Banu Ghifar tribe. I struck a polytheist and said, "Take this, I am from the Ghifar tribe." They reported the incident using the statement of the man from the Ghifar tribe. Some Muslims said that his reward was invalidated, while others disagreed until this reached the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ . He said, "There is no harm in him being rewarded and praised." Abu Darda was pleased with this statement.

On the day of Hunayn we travelled with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we journeyed for a long time until the evening came. I attended the prayer along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. A horseman came and said: Messenger of Allah, I went before you and climbed a certain mountain where saw Hawazin all together with their women, cattle, and sheep, having gathered at Hunayn. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said: That will be the booty of the Muslims tomorrow if Allah wills. He then asked: Who will be on guard tonight? Anas ibn AbuMarthad al-Ghanawi said: I shall , Messenger of Allah. He said: Then mount your horse. He then mounted his horse, and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah said to him: Go forward to this ravine till you get to the top of it. We should not be exposed to danger from your side. In the morning the Apostle of of Allah ﷺ came out to his place of prayer, and offered two rak'ahs. He then said: Have you seen any sign of your horseman? They said: We have not, Messenger of Allah. The announcement of the time for prayer was then made, and while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was saying the prayer, he began to glance towards the ravine. When he finished his prayer and uttered salutation, he said: Cheer up, for your horseman has come. We therefore began to look between the trees in the ravine, and sure enough he had come. He stood beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saluted him and said: I continued till I reached the top of this ravine where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me, and in the morning I looked down into both ravines but saw no one. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him: Did you dismount during the night? He replied: No, except to pray or to relieve myself. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You have ensured your entry to (Paradise). [Machine] No, by Allah, I will not ask anyone for anything after what Sahl ibn al-Hanzaliyyah told me. He said: I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when 'Uyaynah ibn Badr al-Fazari and al-Aqra' ibn Habis al-Tamimi came to him. They asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for something, so he called Mu'awiyah, may Allah have mercy on him, and commanded him with something that I do not know. So Mu'awiyah came with two scrolls that he was carrying, and he threw one of the scrolls to 'Uyaynah. 'Uyaynah was the more sensible of the two men, so he took it and tied it to his turban, and he threw the other scroll to al-Aqra' ibn Habis. He said, "What is in it?" He said, "It contains what you commanded." He said, "What an imposing group of people, if I come to them with a scroll that I am carrying and do not know what it contains, like the scroll of the Mutalammis." He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to a man who was speaking to him, and when he heard his speech, he took the scroll and opened it, and there was a camel inside it. He said, 'Where is the owner of this camel?' It was sought but not found, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Fear Allah with regard to these beasts, consume them fat and ride them in good health.' Then he left until he entered his house and I was with him. Suddenly he said, speaking in an angry tone, 'Whoever asks people about the source of their wealth, he is only increasing his share of the fires of Hell.' So I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the source of wealth?' He said, 'To know that, in their homes, they have what feeds them and provides them with dinner.'"
