[Machine] Sa'd bin 'Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I attended the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and a man came to him saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, I found a man with my wife and I struck him with a sword.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'What evidence is clearer than the sword?' Then he returned and said, 'This is the book of our Lord.' Sa'd bin 'Ubadah said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what evidence is clearer than the sword?' He said, 'The book of Allah and a witness is also present.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'O Ansar, this is your leader, he has been incited by jealousy to go against the book of Allah.' A man from the Ansar said, 'O Messenger of Allah, Sa'd is a jealous man. He has never married a chaste woman except for his jealousy, and none of us could ever divorce a woman based on jealousy.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Sa'd is jealous, and I am more jealous than him. By Allah, I am more jealous than him.' A man from the Ansar said, 'What does Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, become jealous about?' He said, 'He becomes jealous when a fighter in the cause of Allah goes back to his family.'"  

سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ حَضَرْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ وَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَجَدْتُ عَلَى بَطْنِ امْرَأَتِي رَجُلًا أَضْرِبُهُ بِالسَّيْفِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَيُّ بَيِّنَةٍ أَبْيَنُ مِنَ السَّيْفِ؟» ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَقَالَ «كِتَابُ رَبِّنَا هَذَا» فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَيُّ بَيِّنَةٍ أَبْيَنُ مِنَ السَّيْفِ؟ فَقَالَ «كِتَابُ اللهِ وَشَاهِدٌ ثَمَّةَ» قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ هَذَا سَيِّدُكُمْ اسْتَفَزَّتْهُ الْغَيْرَةُ حَتَّى خَالَفَ كِتَابَ اللهِ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ سَعْدًا رَجُلٌ غَيُورٌ مَا تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً ثَيِّبًا قَطُّ لِغَيْرَتِهِ وَمَا قَدَرَ أَحَدٌ مِنَّا أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً طَلَّقَهَا لِغَيْرَتِهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «سَعْدٌ غَيُورٌ وَأَنَا أَغْيَرُ مِنْهُ وَاللهُ ﷻ أَغْيَرُ مِنِّي» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ عَلَى أَيِّ شَيْءٍ يَغَارُ اللهُ تَعَالَى قَالَ «يَغَارُ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مُجَاهِدٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ يُخَالَفُ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ»  

[Machine] About Awrah: "Regarding the naming of the Muslims who pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at al-Aqaba, first from the Ansar, then from Banu Harith bin Khazraj, Saad bin Rabi bin Amr, who was a prominent leader and had participated in the Battle of Badr."  

عَنْ عُرْوَةَ «فِي تَسْمِيَةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ الَّذِينَ بَايَعُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الْعَقَبَةِ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ سَعْدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو وَهُوَ نَقِيبٌ وَقَدْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا»  

[Machine] About Urwah: "In the naming of those who witnessed the Battle of Badr from the Ansar and then from the Banu Harith ibn Al-Khazraj, Saad ibn Al-Rabi'i ibn Abi Zuhayr ibn Malik ibn Amr ibn Qays ibn Tha'alabah ibn Ka'b ibn Al-Khazraj ibn Al-Harith ibn Al-Khazraj."

عَنْ عُرْوَةَ «فِي تَسْمِيَةِ مَنْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ سَعْدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَبِي زُهَيْرِ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ امْرِئِ الْقَيْسِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ»  

[Machine] From Ibn Shihab: "Regarding the name of the person who witnessed the Battle of Badr from the Ansar, and then from the Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj, it is Sa'd ibn al-Rabi'i, and he was a captain."  

عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ «فِي تَسْمِيَةِ مَنْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ سَعْدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ وَهُوَ نَقِيبٌ»  

[Machine] "Regarding the naming of those who participated in the Battle of Badr from the Ansar and then from the Banu Harith bin Al-Khazraj, Saad bin Ar-Rabi'a."  

عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ «فِي تَسْمِيَةِ مَنْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ سَعْدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ»  

[Machine] About Urwah, he said: "Regarding the naming of those who were martyred in the Battle of Uhud alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the Ansar, Sa'd ibn al-Rabi'ah."  

عَنْ عُرْوَةَ «فِي تَسْمِيَةِ مَنِ اسْتُشْهِدَ بِأُحُدٍ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ سَعْدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ»  

[Machine] About Ibn Shihab, "Regarding the naming of those who were martyred on the day of Uhud from the Ansar and then from the Banu Harith bin Al-Khazraj, Sa'd bin Ar-Rabi'."  

عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ «فِي تَسْمِيَةِ مَنِ اسْتُشْهِدَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ سَعْدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ»  

[Machine] "O successor of the Messenger of Allah, who is this?" He said, "This is the daughter of the one who is better than me and than you." He said, "And who is better than me and than you except the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" Abu Bakr said, "A man who fulfilled his covenant ﷺ , he will occupy his seat from Paradise, and I and you will remain."  

«يَا خَلِيفَةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ مَنْ هَذِهِ؟» فَقَالَ «هَذِهِ بِنْتُ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنِّي وَمِنْكَ» قَالَ «وَمَنْ خَيْرٌ مِنِّي وَمِنْكَ إِلَّا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ» قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ «رَجُلٌ قُبِضَ عَلَى عَهْدِهِ ﷺ تَبَوَّأَ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَبَقِيتُ أَنَا وَأَنْتَ»  

[Machine] We went out in the month of Hajj in which we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah. Naqib of the Banu Khazraj was Abdullah bin Rawahah, and Saad bin Ar-Rabi'.  

«خَرَجْنَا فِي الْحِجَّةِ الَّتِي بَايَعْنَا فِيهَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَكَانَ نَقِيبَ بَنِي الْخَزْرَجِ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَوَاحَةَ وَسَعْدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ»  

[Machine] I heard Anas ibn Malik say that Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf came to Medina and the Prophet ﷺ arranged a brotherhood between him and Sa'd ibn Ar-Rabi' Al-Ansari. Sa'd offered to divide his wealth and family with Abdur-Rahman, who replied, "May Allah bless you in your family and wealth. Show me the market." Abdur-Rahman went to the market and made a profit by selling some fat. The Prophet ﷺ saw him after a few days with a yellowish complexion, so he asked him, "What's wrong, Abdur-Rahman?" He replied, "I married a woman from the Ansar." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What did you give her as a dowry?" Abdur-Rahman said, "A piece of gold weighing a date seed." The Prophet ﷺ said, "May Allah bless your marriage. Offer a wedding feast, even if it is with a sheep."  

سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ قَدِمَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ الْمَدِينَةَ فَآخَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ سَعْدِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ فَعَرَضَ عَلَيْهِ سَعْدٌ أَنْ يُنَاصِفَهُ أَهْلَهُ وَمَالَهُ وَكَانَ لَهُ امْرَأَتَانِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بَارَكَ اللهُ لَكَ فِي أَهْلِكَ وَمَالِكَ دُلُّونِي عَلَى السُّوقِ قَالَ فَأَتَى السُّوقَ فَرَبِحَ شَيْئًا مِنْ أَقِطٍ مِنْ سَمْنٍ فَرَآهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بَعْدَ أَيَّامٍ وَعَلَيْهِ وَضَرٌ مِنْ صُفْرَةٍ فَقَالَ «مَهْيَمْ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ» قَالَ تَزَوَّجْتُ امْرَأَةً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ قَالَ «مَا سُقْتَ إِلَيْهَا» قَالَ وَزْنَ نَوَاةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ قَالَ «أَوْلِمْ وَلَوْ بِشَاةٍ»  

"The Messenger of Allah established the bond of brotherhood between (some of) the Quraish and (some of) the Ansar, and he established the bond of brotherhood between Sa'd bin Ar-Rabi' and 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf. Sa'd said to him: 'I have wealth, which I will share equally between you and me. And I have two wives, so look and see which one you like better, and I will divorce her, and when her 'Iddah is over you can marry her.' He said: 'May Allah bless your family and your wealth for you. Show me -i.e., where the market is.' And he did not come back until he brought some ghee, and cottage cheese that he had left over. He said: 'The Messenger of Allah saw traces of yellow perfume on me and he said: 'What is this for?' I said: 'I have married a woman from among the Ansar.' He said: 'Give a Walimah (wedding feast) even if it is with one sheep.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3388)   

آخَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ قُرَيْشٍ وَالْأَنْصَارِ فَآخَى بَيْنَ سَعْدِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ سَعْدٌ إِنَّ لِي مَالًا فَهِيَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ شَطْرَانِ وَلِي امْرَأَتَانِ فَانْظُرْ أَيُّهُمَا أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكَ فَأَنَا أُطَلِّقُهَا فَإِذَا حَلَّتْ فَتَزَوَّجْهَا فَقَالَ بَارَكَ اللهُ لَكَ فِي أَهْلِكَ وَمَالِكَ دُلُّونِي عَلَى السُّوقِ فَلَمْ يَرْجِعْ حَتَّى رَجَعَ بِتَمْرٍ وَأَقِطٍ ثُمَّ أَفْضَلَهُ وَرَأَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَيْهِ أَثَرَ صُفْرَةٍ فَقَالَ «مَهْيَمْ؟» فَقُلْتُ تَزَوَّجْتُ امْرَأَةً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ قَالَ «مَا سُقْتَ إِلَيْهَا؟» قَالَ وَزْنَ نَوَاةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ قَالَ «أَوْلِمْ وَلَوْ بِشَاةٍ»  

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , when Ibn Awf came to him, he handed him over to Sa'd ibn Rabi', and he said, "This is your brother." So he took him and accommodated him, and when morning came, Sa'd went to Abdulrahman ibn Awf and greeted him. He said, "I am the best of the Ansar in terms of two wives, and the best of the Ansar in terms of two walls. So look at my two wives, whichever one you find more pleasing to you, I will divorce her for you, as her family does not disobey me. And look at whichever wall you choose, and take it." But he did not accept anything from him.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَمَّا قَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ ابْنُ عَوْفٍ دَفَعَهُ إِلَى سَعْدِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ فَقَالَ «هَذَا أَخُوكَ» فَانْقَلَبَ بِهِ فَعَشَّاهُ وَفَرَشَ لَهُ فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ غَدَا سَعْدٌ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ فَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَحْسَنُ الْأَنْصَارِ امْرَأَتَيْنِ وَأَفْضَلُ الْأَنْصَارِ حَائِطَيْنِ فَانْظُرْ إِلَى امْرَأَتَيَّ فَأَيَّتُهُمَا كَانَتْ أَعْجَبَ إِلَيْكَ طَلَّقْتُهَا لَكَ فَإِنَّ أَهْلَهَا لَمْ يَعْصُونِي وَانْظُرْ إِلَى أَيِّ حَائِطَيَّ شِئْتَ فَخُذْ فَلَمْ يَقْبَلْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا  

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had reconciled between Saad and Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, so he returned to his family and said, "Choose whichever wife you want, I will divorce her for you, and as for my wealth, you can have half of it." Abd al-Rahman said, "May Allah bless you in your family and wealth. Show me the market." They showed him the market and he did not return until he acquired something. Then he married a woman from the Ansar with the weight equivalent of a date stone in gold. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ met him carrying a wound from beating. He said, "What is this?" Abd al-Rahman said, "I married a woman from the Ansar with the weight equivalent of a date stone in gold." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Spend, even if it is just a sheep."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ آخَى بَيْنَ سَعْدٍ وَبَيْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ فَرَجَعَ بِهِ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ فَقَالَ اخْتَرْ أَيَّ امْرَأَتَيَّ شِئْتَ أُطَلِّقْهَا لَكَ وَمَالِي لَكَ نِصْفَيْنِ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بَارَكَ اللهُ لَكَ فِي أَهْلِكَ وَمَالِكَ دُلُّونِي عَلَى السُّوقِ فَدَلُّوهُ عَلَيْهَا فَلَمْ يَرْجِعْ حَتَّى أَصَابَ شَيْئًا فَتَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ عَلَى وَزْنِ نَوَاةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَلَقِيَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَبِهِ وَضَرٌ مِنْ صُفْرَةٍ فَقَالَ «مَهْيَمْ؟» فَقَالَ تَزَوَّجْتُ امْرَأَةً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ عَلَى وَزْنِ نَوَاةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَوْلِمْ وَلَوْ بِشَاةٍ»
