13. Chapter of Sīn (Male)
١٣۔ بَابُ السِّينِ
[Machine] We passed by a flood, so I entered it, and I took a bath, then I came out soaking wet. That was reported to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "Tell Abu Thabit to seek refuge (in Allah from evil)." I said to him, "O my master, is reciting ruqyah beneficial?" He said, "Only in three situations: for the nafs (psychological issues), al-hummah (fever) and al-laddah (bitter sting)."
[Machine] My father used to be a companion of Abu Darda in Damascus and he informed me that he was a man from the companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ known as Ibn al-Hanzaliyyah. He was a man who constantly engaged in prayer and rarely interacted with people. Whenever he prayed, it was as if he was conversing with Allah. After finishing his prayer, he would engage in the remembrance and glorification of Allah until he returned to his family. One day, he passed by us while we were with Abu Darda, and he greeted him. Abu Darda asked him for a word that would benefit us and not harm him. He replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out a secret mission, and I participated in it. A man came and sat down in the gathering where the Prophet ﷺ was present. He said to a man beside him, 'If you saw us when we encounter the enemy and one person stabs another, what would you do?' The man replied, 'Take it, and I am the servant of Ghuwariyyah. What do you think?' He said, 'I can only see that such an act would invalidate the reward.' The conversation continued until the Prophet ﷺ heard it and said, 'Glory be to Allah! There is no harm in being rewarded and praised.' Abu Darda was delighted by this and began to declare, 'You heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, didn't you?' He said, 'Yes.' He repeated this statement several times, while raising his head towards him, 'I would make him sit on my lap.'

[Machine] My father was a companion of Abu Darda in Damascus. He told me that there was a man among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ called Ibn al-Hanzaliyyah. He was a man who rarely socialized with people, as he considered it to be a form of worship. When he left, he would engage in glorification, praise and recitation of "Allahu Akbar" until he reached his family. One day, he passed by us while we were with Abu Darda and greeted him. Abu Darda said to him, "Say a word that benefits us and does not harm you." He said, "The Messenger of Allah sent a small group on a secret mission. I joined them and a man came and sat in the gathering where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was present. He said to a man beside him, 'If you saw us when we meet the enemy and one person stabs another, what would you do?' He replied, 'Take his sword and I am the servant of Ghifari. How do you see it?' He said, 'I do not see any reward but that it has been nullified.' Another person said, 'The last thing I see is harm.' They disputed about it until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard them and said, 'Glory be to Allah, there is no harm in receiving reward and praise.' Abu Darda was delighted with this and started to say, 'Did you hear this from the Prophet ﷺ?' He said, 'Yes, to the extent that I say it while he raises his head to listen.'

He said, 'I would intervene, and I am the young Ghifar boy, what do you think?' He said, 'I would not consider there to be any reward in doing so.' Another person said, 'The last thing I would see is any harm.' They were arguing about this until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard them and said, 'Glory be to Allah, there is no harm in being rewarded and praised.'" Abu Darda was pleased with that and began to say, "Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" He replied, "Yes," and even said it when raising his head towards him, as though he was riding on his knees.

He was known as the son of Hanzhaliyya. This man would pass by Abu Darda and stop to speak to him. Abu Darda would say to him, "Tell us a hadith that benefits us and does not harm you." So he narrated to him the following incident: One day, I went out on a military expedition and I fought a man from the Banu Ghifar tribe. I struck a polytheist and said, "Take this, I am from the Ghifar tribe." They reported the incident using the statement of the man from the Ghifar tribe. Some Muslims said that his reward was invalidated, while others disagreed until this reached the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ . He said, "There is no harm in him being rewarded and praised." Abu Darda was pleased with this statement.

[Machine] I heard Ibn al-Hanzaliyyah saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a secret mission, so they encountered the enemy. He gave it to a man from the tribe of Ghifariyyah and said, "Take it, I am the Ghifari youth." A man said, "He doesn't deserve the reward." This was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he said, "There is no harm in rewarding him and praising him."
On the day of Hunayn we travelled with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we journeyed for a long time until the evening came. I attended the prayer along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. A horseman came and said: Messenger of Allah, I went before you and climbed a certain mountain where saw Hawazin all together with their women, cattle, and sheep, having gathered at Hunayn. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said: That will be the booty of the Muslims tomorrow if Allah wills. He then asked: Who will be on guard tonight? Anas ibn AbuMarthad al-Ghanawi said: I shall , Messenger of Allah. He said: Then mount your horse. He then mounted his horse, and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah said to him: Go forward to this ravine till you get to the top of it. We should not be exposed to danger from your side. In the morning the Apostle of of Allah ﷺ came out to his place of prayer, and offered two rak'ahs. He then said: Have you seen any sign of your horseman? They said: We have not, Messenger of Allah. The announcement of the time for prayer was then made, and while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was saying the prayer, he began to glance towards the ravine. When he finished his prayer and uttered salutation, he said: Cheer up, for your horseman has come. We therefore began to look between the trees in the ravine, and sure enough he had come. He stood beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saluted him and said: I continued till I reached the top of this ravine where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me, and in the morning I looked down into both ravines but saw no one. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him: Did you dismount during the night? He replied: No, except to pray or to relieve myself. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You have ensured your entry to (Paradise). No blame will be attached to you supposing you do not work after it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2501)

[Machine] No, by Allah, I will not ask anyone for anything after what Sahl ibn al-Hanzaliyyah told me. He said: I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when 'Uyaynah ibn Badr al-Fazari and al-Aqra' ibn Habis al-Tamimi came to him. They asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for something, so he called Mu'awiyah, may Allah have mercy on him, and commanded him with something that I do not know. So Mu'awiyah came with two scrolls that he was carrying, and he threw one of the scrolls to 'Uyaynah. 'Uyaynah was the more sensible of the two men, so he took it and tied it to his turban, and he threw the other scroll to al-Aqra' ibn Habis. He said, "What is in it?" He said, "It contains what you commanded." He said, "What an imposing group of people, if I come to them with a scroll that I am carrying and do not know what it contains, like the scroll of the Mutalammis." He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to a man who was speaking to him, and when he heard his speech, he took the scroll and opened it, and there was a camel inside it. He said, 'Where is the owner of this camel?' It was sought but not found, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Fear Allah with regard to these beasts, consume them fat and ride them in good health.' Then he left until he entered his house and I was with him. Suddenly he said, speaking in an angry tone, 'Whoever asks people about the source of their wealth, he is only increasing his share of the fires of Hell.' So I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the source of wealth?' He said, 'To know that, in their homes, they have what feeds them and provides them with dinner.'"

[Machine] Easy. "Approach your prayer, for Satan will not interrupt your prayer. And I only speak to you with what I have heard from the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ ."

[Machine] I entered the mosque of Damascus and saw people gathered and a sheikh speaking to them. So, I asked, "Who is this?" They said, "Sahl ibn Al Hanbalia." I heard him saying, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever eats meat, let him perform ablution.'"
