On the day of Hunayn we travelled with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we journeyed for a long time until the evening came. I attended the prayer along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. A horseman came and said: Messenger of Allah, I went before you and climbed a certain mountain where saw Hawazin all together with their women, cattle, and sheep, having gathered at Hunayn. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said: That will be the booty of the Muslims tomorrow if Allah wills. He then asked: Who will be on guard tonight? Anas ibn AbuMarthad al-Ghanawi said: I shall , Messenger of Allah. He said: Then mount your horse. He then mounted his horse, and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah said to him: Go forward to this ravine till you get to the top of it. We should not be exposed to danger from your side. In the morning the Apostle of of Allah ﷺ came out to his place of prayer, and offered two rak'ahs. He then said: Have you seen any sign of your horseman? They said: We have not, Messenger of Allah. The announcement of the time for prayer was then made, and while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was saying the prayer, he began to glance towards the ravine. When he finished his prayer and uttered salutation, he said: Cheer up, for your horseman has come. We therefore began to look between the trees in the ravine, and sure enough he had come. He stood beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saluted him and said: I continued till I reached the top of this ravine where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me, and in the morning I looked down into both ravines but saw no one. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him: Did you dismount during the night? He replied: No, except to pray or to relieve myself. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You have ensured your entry to (Paradise). The Messenger of Allah said to him: Go forward to this ravine till you get to the top of it. We should not be exposed to danger from your side. In the morning the Apostle of of Allah ﷺ came out to his place of prayer, and offered two rak'ahs. He then said: Have you seen any sign of your horseman? They said: We have not, Messenger of Allah. The announcement of the time for prayer was then made, and while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was saying the prayer, he began to glance towards the ravine. When he finished his prayer and uttered salutation, he said: Cheer up, for your horseman has come. We therefore began to look between the trees in the ravine, and sure enough he had come. He stood beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saluted him and said: I continued till I reached the top of this ravine where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me, and in the morning I looked down into both ravines but saw no one. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him: Did you dismount during the night? He replied: No, except to pray or to relieve myself. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You have ensured your entry to (Paradise). No blame will be attached to you supposing you do not work after it.

[Machine] "On the authority of Aisha, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , she said: "People used to pray in the Masjid of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Ramadan at night in groups. A person would recite a portion of the Quran, and he would have with him five or six people, sometimes more or less, who would pray with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me one night to set up a mat for him at the door of my room. So I did, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to it after he had prayed the last evening prayer. Those who were in the mosque gathered around him, and he prayed with them for a long night. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left and entered the house, leaving the mat as it was. When the people woke up in the morning, they spoke about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with those who were with him in the mosque that night. And in the evening, the mosque was filled with people, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the last evening prayer with them. Then he entered his house, and the people stayed in their places. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked me, 'O Aisha, what is the matter with the people?' I said to him, 'O Messenger of Allah, the people heard about your prayer last night with those who were in the mosque, so they gathered for you to pray with them.' He said, 'Get rid of your mat, O Aisha.' So I did, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spent the night without being aware of it. The people stayed in their places until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out in the morning to dawn and said, 'O people, by Allah, I did not spend the night in heedlessness, and my location was not hidden from me. But I feared that it would be made obligatory upon you, so do as much acts of worship as you are able, for Allah does not become tired until you become tired.' Aisha used to say, 'The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are done consistently, even if they are few.'"

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَهْلَ بْنَ الْحَنْظَلِيَّةِ يَذْكُرُ أَنَّهُمْ سَارُوا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنِ فَأَطْنَبُوا السَّيْرَ حَتَّى كَانَ عَشِيَّةً فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَارِسٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي انْطَلَقْتُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ حَتَّى طَلَعْتُ جَبَلَ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِهَوَازِنَ عَلَى بَكْرَةِ أَبِيهِمْ بِظُعُنِهِمْ وَنَعَمِهِمْ وَشَائِهِمْ فَاجْتَمَعُوا إِلَى حُنَيْنٍ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ تِلْكَ غَنِيمَةُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ غَدًا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «مَنْ يَحْرُسُنَا اللَّيْلَةَ؟» فَقَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَرْثَدٍ الْغَنَوِيُّ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ «ارْكَبْ» فَرَكِبَ فَرَسًا لَهُ فَجَاءَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اسْتَقْبِلْ هَذَا الشِّعْبَ حَتَّى تَكُونَ فِي أَعْلَاهُ وَلَا تَفِرَّنَّ مِنْ قِبَلِكَ اللَّيْلَةَ» فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْنَا خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى مُصَلَّاهُ فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «هَلْ أَحْسَسْتُمْ فَارِسَكُمْ؟» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مَا أَحْسَسْنَا فَثَوَّبَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَلْتَفِتُ إِلَى الشِّعْبِ حَتَّى قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ فَقَالَ «أَبْشِرُوا فَقَدْ جَاءَ فَارِسُكُمْ» قَالَ فَجَعَلْنَا نَنْظُرُ إِلَى ظِلِّ الشَّجَرِ فِي الشِّعْبِ فَإِذَا هُوَ جَاءَ حَتَّى وَقَفَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي انْطَلَقْتُ حَتَّى كُنْتُ فِي أَعْلَى هَذَا الشِّعْبِ حَيْثُ أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ اطَّلَعْتُ عَلَى الشِّعْبَيْنِ فَنَظَرْتُ فَلَمْ أَرَ أَحَدًا فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «نَزَلِتَ اللَّيْلَةَ؟» فَقَالَ لَا إِلَّا مُصَلِّيًا أَوْ قَاضِي حَاجَةٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «قَدْ أَوْجَبْتَ فَلَا عَلَيْكَ أَنْ لَا تَعْمَلَ بَعْدَهَا» هَذَا الْإِسْنَادُ مِنْ أَوَّلِهِ إِلَى آخِرِهِ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ «غَيْرَ أَنَّهُمَا لَمْ يُخَرِّجَا مَسَانِيدَ سَهْلِ بْنِ الْحَنْظَلِيَّةِ لِقِلَّةِ رِوَايَةِ التَّابِعِينَ عَنْهُ وَهُوَ مِنْ كِبَارِ الصَّحَابَةِ عَلَى مَا قَدَّمْتُ الْقَوْلَ فِي أَوَانِهِ» على شرط البخاري ومسلم لكن لم يخرجا لسهل وهو صحابي كبير

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who will guard us tonight?" Abdullah replied, "I will, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "You sleep." He then repeated, "Who will guard us tonight?" I said, "I will, O Messenger of Allah," repeating it three times. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "So it is you." I kept guard until just before dawn when the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke me up saying, "You sleep." I fell asleep and we were only awakened by the heat of the sun on our backs. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and performed ablution and the two units of the Fajr prayer. He then led us in the morning prayer, and after finishing, he said, "If Allah intended for you not to sleep, you would not have slept. However, He wanted it so for those who come after you as well." Then the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ camel and the camels of the people scattered. The people went looking for them and brought their camels back except the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ camel. Abdullah said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, 'Take it here.'" So, I took it to where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had told me and found its reins twisted around a tree. By Allah, no one but a hand could have released it. So, I brought it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, by the one who sent you with the truth, I found its reins twisted around a tree and no one could have released it except a hand." The verse was then revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "Indeed, We have given you a clear conquest."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ يَحْرُسُنَا اللَّيْلَةَ؟» قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فَقُلْتُ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّكَ تَنَامُ» ثُمَّ أَعَادَ «مَنْ يَحْرُسُنَا اللَّيْلَةَ؟» فَقُلْتُ أَنَا حَتَّى أَعَادَ مِرَارًا ثَلَاثَةً أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فَأَنْتَ» فَحَرَسْتُهُمْ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ وَجْهِ الصُّبْحِ أَدْرَكَنِي قَوْلُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّكَ تَنَامُ» فَنِمْتُ فَمَا أَيْقَظَنَا إِلَّا حَرُّ الشَّمْسِ فِي ظُهُورِنَا فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَنَعَ كَمَا كَانَ يَصْنَعُ مِنَ الْوُضُوءِ وَرَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا الصُّبْحَ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ لَوْ أَرَادَ أَنْ لَا تَنَامُوا عَنْهَا لَمْ تَنَامُوا وَلَكِنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَكُونَ أَوْ قَالَ يَكُونُ لِمَنْ بَعْدِكُمْ فَهَكَذَا لِمَنْ نَامَ أَوْ نَسِيَ» ثُمَّ إِنَّ نَاقَةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَإِبِلَ الْقَوْمِ تَفَرَّقَتْ فَخَرَجَ النَّاسُ فِي طَلَبِهَا فَجَاءُوا بِإِبِلِهِمْ إِلَّا نَاقَةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «خُذْ هَا هُنَا» فَأَخَذْتُ حَيْثُ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَوَجَدْتُ زِمَامَهَا قَدِ الْتَوَى عَلَى شَجَرَةٍ وَاللهِ مَا كَانَتْ تَحُلُّهَا إِلَّا يَدٌ قَالَ فَجِئْتُ بِهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولُ اللهِ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ لَقَدْ وَجَدْتُ زِمَامَهَا مُلْتَوِيَةً عَلَى شَجَرَةٍ مَا كَانَتْ لِتَحُلَّهَا إِلَّا يَدٌ قَالَ وَنَزَلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ {إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُبِينًا}

On the day of Hunayn we travelled with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we journeyed for a long time until the evening came. I attended the prayer along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. A horseman came and said: Messenger of Allah, I went before you and climbed a certain mountain where saw Hawazin all together with their women, cattle, and sheep, having gathered at Hunayn. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said: That will be the booty of the Muslims tomorrow if Allah wills. He then asked: Who will be on guard tonight? Anas ibn AbuMarthad al-Ghanawi said: I shall , Messenger of Allah. He said: Then mount your horse. He then mounted his horse, and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah said to him: Go forward to this ravine till you get to the top of it. We should not be exposed to danger from your side. In the morning the Apostle of of Allah ﷺ came out to his place of prayer, and offered two rak'ahs. He then said: Have you seen any sign of your horseman? They said: We have not, Messenger of Allah. The announcement of the time for prayer was then made, and while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was saying the prayer, he began to glance towards the ravine. When he finished his prayer and uttered salutation, he said: Cheer up, for your horseman has come. We therefore began to look between the trees in the ravine, and sure enough he had come. He stood beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saluted him and said: I continued till I reached the top of this ravine where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me, and in the morning I looked down into both ravines but saw no one. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him: Did you dismount during the night? He replied: No, except to pray or to relieve myself. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You have ensured your entry to (Paradise). No blame will be attached to you supposing you do not work after it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2501)

" عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ الْحَنْظَلِيَّةِ أَنَّهُمْ سَارُوا مَعَ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : مَنْ يَحْرُسُنَا؟ فَقَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ أَبِى مِرْثَدِ الْغَنَوِىُّ: أَنَا يَارَسُولَ الله، فَقَالَ: ارْكَبْ، فَرَكِبَ فَرسًا، فَجَاءَ إِلَى رَسُولِ الله ﷺ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : اسْتَقْبِلْ هَذَا الشِّعْبَ حَتَّى تَكُونَ فِى أَعْلاَهُ، وَلاَ تَغْرُرْ (*) مَنْ قِبَلكَ اللَّيْلَةَ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ، خَرَجَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ إِلَى مُصَلاَّهُ، فَصَلَّى رَكعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: هَلْ أَحْسَنْتُمْ فَارِسَكُمْ؟ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَارَسُولَ الله، مَا أَحْسَنَّاهُ (فَثُوِّبَ) بِالصَّلاَةِ، فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ وَهُوَ فِى الصَّلاَةِ يَتَلَفَّتُ إِلَى الشِّعْبِ، حَتَّى إِذَا قَضَى صَلاَتَهُ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: أَبْشِرُوا فَقَدْ جَاءَ فَارسُكُمْ، فَجَعَلْنَا نَنْظُرُ إِلَى ظِلاَلِ الشَّجَرِ فِى الشِّعْبِ، فَإذَا هُوَ (قَد) جَاءَ (حَتَّى) وَقَفَ عَلَى رَسُولِ الله ﷺ ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّى قَدِ انْطَلَقْتُ حَتَّى كُنْتُ فِى أَعْلَى هَذَا الشِّعْبِ، حَيْثُ أَمَرنِى رَسُولُ الله ﷺ ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ (فَنَظَرْتُ) فَلَمْ أَرَ أَحَدًا، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : نَزَلْتَ اللَّيْلَةَ؟ قَالَ: لاَ إِلاَّ مُصَلِّيًا أَوْ قَاضِىَ حَاجَةٍ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : (فَقَدْ أَوْجَبَتَ) فَلاَ عَلَيْكَ أَنْ لاَ تَعْمَلَ غَيْرَهَا".
