[Machine] There was a disagreement between two men from the Ansar, so the Prophet ﷺ went to reconcile between them during prayer time. When it was time for prayer, Bilal came to Abu Bakr and said, "O Abu Bakr, the prayer has begun, and the Prophet ﷺ is not here. Should I call the adhan and lead the prayer?" Abu Bakr replied, "Do as you wish." So Bilal called the adhan and led the prayer, and Abu Bakr started the prayer. Then the Prophet ﷺ came and joined the congregation. After finishing the prayer, the Prophet ﷺ greeted the people, and Abu Bakr went to move away. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ motioned to him to stay in his place, and when Abu Bakr moved, the Prophet ﷺ moved forward and led the prayer. After completing the prayer, the Prophet ﷺ asked Abu Bakr, "O Abu Bakr, what prevented you from staying where I instructed you?" Abu Bakr replied, "It was not fitting for the son of Abu Quhafa to lead the prayer in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to stand on a wooden platform. When the number of people increased, they said, "O Messenger of Allah, the people have increased, so should we not make a pulpit for you to stand on? For surely, sometimes the person who comes late does not hear anything from you and leaves." So, he commanded a young boy from the Ansar and took pieces of wood from the outskirts of the forest and made this pulpit. When he sat on it, the wooden platform he used to stand on became soft and quiet.

[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, there has been an argument between the Banu Amr ibn Awf until they threw stones at each other." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This used to happen among them in the past. Come with us to them." So, Ubayy ibn Ka'b and Suhail ibn Bayda'a stood up and went with him to reconcile between them. Then, the prayer time came and Bilal called the prayer. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gestured to him to go slowly, so the people said to Abu Bakr, "Move forward." He said, "Do you see that?" They said, "Yes." So, he moved forward, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and started shaking hands with the people. Abu Bakr would not turn around during the prayer, but when he heard the people shaking hands, he turned around and saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He then stepped back, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ moved forward and led the prayer. After finishing, he said, "O Abu Bakr, what prevented you from staying in your place when I gestured to you?" He said, "It was not appropriate for Ibn Abi Quhafa to go ahead of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Why did I see you shaking hands? Clapping is for men, and tasbih (saying subhan Allah) is for women in prayer."

I would certainly give this standard to a person at whose hand Allah would grant victory and who loves Allah and His Messenger and Allah and His Messenger love him also. The people spent the night thinking as to whom it would be given. When it was morning the people hastened to Messenger of Allah ﷺ all of them hoping that that would be given to him. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Where is 'Ali b. Abu Talib? They said: Messenger of Allah, his eyes are sore. He then sent for him and he was brought and Messenger of Allah ﷺ applied saliva to his eyes and invoked blessings and he was all right, as if he had no ailment at all, and conferred upon him the standard. 'Ali said: Messenger of Allah, I will fight them until they are like us. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Advance cautiously until you reach their open places, thereafter invite them to Islam and inform them what is obligatory for them from the rights of Allah, for, by Allah, if Allah guides aright even one person through you that is better for you than to possess the most valuable of the camels. People came to Sahl b. Sa'd al-Sa'idi, when they were doubtful about the kind of wood of the pulpit (in the mosque of the Prophet). They asked him about it. He said: By Allah, I know (the wood) of which it was made; I saw it the first day when it was placed there, and the first day when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat on it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for a woman whom Sahl named and asked her: Order your boy, the carpenter, to construct for me a wooden pulpit so that I sit on it when I deliver a speech to the people. So she ordered him and he made a pulpit of a wood called tarfa taken from al-Ghabah (a place at a distance of nine miles from Medina). He brought it to her. She sent it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He ordered and that was placed here. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying on it: he said: "Allah is most great"; he then bowed while he was on it; then he returned and prostrated in the root of the pulpit; he then returned (to the pulpit). When he finished (the prayer), he addressed himself to the people and said: O people, I did this so that you may follow me and know my prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1080)

He said, "Praise be to Allah, the Book of Allah is one, but the recitation styles differ among you. The black and the red (styles of recitation) should recite the Quran, recite the Quran, recite the Quran, before a people come who will recite it and establish its letters, similar to how an arrow is shot piercing through its target. They will rush to gain its reward and not delay it."
