53. Actions to Perform Day and Night (12/21)
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went on an expedition, he said: O Allah, Thou art my aider and helper; by Thee I move, by Thee I attack, and by Thee I fight. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2632)
[Machine] Narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that on the day of Hunayn, Abu Sufyan was riding his white mule and he dismounted, seeking help. Then he said, "I am the Prophet, there is no lie, I am the son of Abdullah ibn Muttalib."
[Machine] When we met on the day of Badr, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up to pray. I did not see anyone chanting with more passion than the chanting of Muhammad ﷺ to his Lord, saying, "O Allah, I solemnly implore You and Your promise and covenant. O Allah, I ask You for what You have promised me. O Allah, if You destroy this group, there will be no worship on earth." Then he turned to us, and it seemed as if the moon was split on his face, and he said, "These are the remnants of the evening people."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate with this supplication: "O Lord, help me and do not help against me, grant me victory and do not grant victory against me, plot for me and do not plot against me, guide me and make guidance easy for me, grant me victory over those who wrong me, O Lord, make me grateful to You, a remembrance of You, obedient to You, humble to You, repentant to You. O Lord, accept my repentance, cleanse my heart, make my argument strong, guide my heart, make my tongue correct, remove the malice in my heart." Imran bin Musa narrated that Abdul Warith narrated that Muhammad bin Juhadah narrated from Amr bin Murrah from Ibn Abbas who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate, "O Lord, help me." And he mentioned the Hadith Mursal of Sufyan, and Yahya bin Sa'id said, "I did not see anyone memorize as much as Sufyan, and it was narrated from Ath-Thawri that he said, 'I did not trust my heart with anything so it betrayed me.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Prepare yourselves until I praise my Lord." So, they lined up behind him neatly, and he said, "O Allah, all praise is due to You, there is no withholder for what You have given, nor is there any extender for what You have withheld, and there is no guide for those whom You have led astray, nor any misleader for those whom You have guided. There is no giver for what You have denied, nor any denier for what You have given. There is no one who brings near what You have distanced, nor anyone who distances what You have brought near. O Allah, bestow upon us Your blessings, mercy, favor, and sustenance. O Allah, I ask You for eternal bliss that does not change or fade away. O Allah, I ask You for bliss on the Day of Reunion and security on the Day of Fear. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You have given us and from the evil of what You have kept from us. O Allah, make faith beloved to us and adorn it in our hearts. Make disbelief, immorality, and disobedience hated to us. Make us among the guided ones. O Allah, cause us to die as Muslims, and make us live as Muslims. Join us with the righteous ones, without disgrace or trial. O Allah, fight against the disbelievers who deny Your messengers and obstruct Your path. Place upon them Your punishment and torment, O God of Truth, Amen." [226] Abu Nuaim contradicted him, so he sent the hadith as 10371. Ishaq ibn Mansur narrated to us, saying, Abu Nuaim informed us, saying, Abdul Wahid ibn Ayman told us, saying, I heard Ubayd ibn Rifaa'ah al-Zurqi say, "When it was the day of Uhud, he mentioned something similar to this."
[Machine] When it was the day of Badr, I fought in a battle, then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to see what he was doing, and when I came, I found him in prostration saying, "O Ever-living, O Sustainer! O Ever-living, O Sustainer!" Then I returned to the battle, and then I came back to him, and I found him in prostration, not saying anything else. Then I went back to the battle, and then I came back, and I found him in prostration, saying the same thing. So Allah granted him victory.
[Machine] He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray, "O Ever-Living, O Sustainer of Existence."
[Machine] It was part of the Prophet's supplication, ﷺ , "O Ever Living, O Sustainer!"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to whisper something in his prayer without informing us about it. He would then ask, "Did you understand what I said?" We would reply, "No." He would say, "I mentioned a Prophet from among the Prophets who was given an army from his people. He asked, 'Who will compensate them or stand up for them?' Salomon said a word similar to this. It was said to him, 'Choose one of three things for your people: either I will send against them an enemy against whom no one would be able to stand, or I will inflict a famine upon them, or I will cause death to overtake them within three days.' They said, 'You are the Prophet of Allah, so you should choose on our behalf.' He then said in his prayer, 'When they would be distressed, they would turn to prayer. As for an enemy against whom no one would be able to stand, it is a lie. And as for famine, it is a lie. However, death would be sent against them for three days, and they would perish in large numbers.' So, the one you saw me mentioning is the Lord, whom I fight for and seek His support. There is no refuge from Him nor any power except with Him."
53.217 [Machine] What is the slogan?
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, you will encounter your enemy tomorrow, so let your slogan be 'Hummah' (the Prophet's call to battle), may they not be aided against the call of your Prophet."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You will face the enemy tomorrow, and your symbol is ham, but they will not be victorious." Al-Ajlhah was not strong and he was excessive in his allegiance. Zuhair and Shariq disagreed with them in terms of their authority and wording, due to their disagreement in this matter.
[Machine] A man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said on the night of the trench, "I see the people only in your camp, for your slogan is "ham," and they will not be victorious."
[Machine] That Hooriya would accommodate him, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dug the trench while fearing that Abu Sufyan would accommodate him. "If you are besieged, your call is ham, they will not be helped."
53.218 [Machine] What to say when he undergoes surgery
"On the day of Uhud, the people ran away, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in one position among twelve men of the Ansar, one of whom was Talhah bin 'Ubaidullah. He said: 'Who will face the people?' Talhah said: 'I will.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Stay where you are.' One of the Ansar said: 'I will, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He said: 'You (go ahead).' So he fought until he was killed. Then he turned and saw the idolators. He said: 'Who will face the people?' Talhah said: 'I will'. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Stay where you are.' One of the Ansar said: 'I will, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He said: 'You (go ahead).' So he fought until he was killed. This carried on, and each man of the Ansar went out to face them and fought like the one before him, and was killed, until only the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Talhah bin 'Ubaidullah were left. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Who will face the people?' Talhah said: 'I will.' So Talhah fought like the eleven before him, until his hand was struck, and his fingers were cut off, and he exclaimed in pain. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'If you had said Bismillah (in the Name of Allah), the angels would have lifted you up with the people looking on.' Then Allah drove back the idolators." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3149)
In one of the holy Battles a finger of Messenger of Allah ﷺ (got wounded and) bled. He said, "You are just a finger that bled, and what you got is in Allah's Cause." (Using translation from Bukhārī 2802)
53.219 [Machine] What does he say when he is overwhelmed by a matter?
“The stronger believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, although both are good. Strive to seek that which will benefit you and do not feel helpless. If something overwhelms you, then say: Qaddarallah, wa ma sha'a fa’al (It is the decree of Allah and what He wills He does). And beware of (saying) ‘If only,’ for ‘If only’ opens the door to Satan.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4168)

[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: "The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, but there is good in both. Be diligent in pursuing what benefits you and do not be helpless. If something overwhelms you, say: 'Allah has decreed it and what He wills, He does.' Beware of negativity, for negativity opens the door to the devil's actions." Muhammad ibn Hatim informed us, he said: Habban informed us, he said: Abdullah informed us, on the authority of Ibn Ajlan, on the authority of Rabi'ah, on the authority of Al-A'raj, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: [he mentioned the hadith similar to the above, and Abdullah said: I heard it from Rabi'ah and preserved it from Muhammad].

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah disapproves of helplessness, but you should rely on being prudent. And when you are faced with a difficult situation, say, 'Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.'" Abu Abdullah Saif said, "I do not know who narrated this."

So, we took her to a place until we were close to the hill, and he bid her farewell while she was on her mount. I recognized that he was teaching her those words that he had kept secret from us. Then he turned away from her and we departed until we were close to the mile marker. I lagged behind, feeling as if I was pouring water, then I ran and said, 'O daughter of my cousin, I have come to know that your father has left us to teach you the words that he kept secret from us.' She said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Tell me of them.' She said, 'He forbade me from informing anyone about them.' I said, 'I ask you by Allah, except for what you have informed me, lest I never see you again after this incident.' She said, 'He left me and then said to me, "My daughter, your father taught me certain words that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught him to say when facing hardship. He said, 'I have chosen you for these words, excluding Hasan and Husayn. Indeed, you will go to a land where you will be a stranger. So when you face difficulty or encounter hardship, say, 'There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous. Glory be to You, blessed be Allah, Lord of the Great Throne. I have specified them to you apart from Hasan and Husain.' Abdullah ibn Ja'far would keep these words to himself. But when he married his daughter to Abd al-Malik and they went to Sham, he taught her these words, and we also learned them from him. When she returned and wanted to leave, he went with her. We realized that he was teaching her these words. When he left, I stayed behind, and then I caught up to her. I asked her and she mentioned a word with its meaning. She said: 'O daughter, you are going to a land where you are a stranger. Whenever distress or grief befall you, say these words: 'There is no god but Allah, the Generous, the Forbearing. Blessed be Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all the worlds.'' [Machine] He said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me these words and commanded me that if a calamity or difficulty befalls me, I should say: "There is no god but Allah, the Generous, the Forbearing. Glory be to Him, blessed be Allah, the Lord of the mighty Throne. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds." So, Abdullah ibn Ja'far used to teach these words to the deceased and blow them onto the face of the sick person, and he would teach them to his scattered daughters.

[Machine] The prophet ﷺ taught him words to say when he experienced distress. He would supplicate with the following words: "There is no god but Allah, the Clement and Noble. Glorified is Allah, the Lord of the Great Throne. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds." This is incorrect and Ibn Thawban is weak and does not have the authority to support it. The correct hadith is the hadith of Ya'qub.

The Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ ﷺ instructed him, "Perform ablution, then pray two units of prayer, and say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through my Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to Allah through you to fulfill my need, or fulfill my need through so-and-so. O Allah, intercede for me through my Prophet and intercede for me in my own self."
