53. Actions to Perform Day and Night (11/21)
[Machine] Omar ibn Al-Khattab was listening to the recitation while leading the people in prayer at the Prophet's mosque from the house of Abu Jahm. Ka'ab Al-Ahbar said, "By the One who split the sea for Moses, Suhaib told me that Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, never entered a village except that when he saw it, he would say, 'Oh Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they shade, and Lord of the seven earths and all that they carry, and Lord of the devils and all that they mislead, and Lord of the winds and all that they scatter. Indeed, we ask You for the goodness of this village and the goodness of its people, and seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of its people, and the evil of what is in it.' Ka'ab swore by the One who split the sea for Moses, as it was the supplication of Dawood when he would see the enemy."
[Machine] It was narrated by Suhaib, the companion of the Prophet ﷺ, that the Prophet ﷺ never entered a village without saying, "O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and whatever they shade, and Lord of the earths and whatever they contain, and Lord of the devils and whatever they mislead, and Lord of the winds and whatever they scatter. Indeed, we ask You for the good of this village and the good of its people, and seek Your protection from its evil and the evil of its inhabitants and the evil within it." Abu Abdul Rahman Hafs ibn Maysarah said, "There is no harm in it." And Abdul Rahman ibn Abi al-Zinad is weak. Abdul Rahman ibn Abi al-Zinad reported to us that Harun ibn Abdullah informed us that Saad ibn Abdul Hamid informed us that Ibn Abi al-Zinad reported to us from Musa ibn Uqbah from Ata ibn Abi Marwan from his father that Abdul Rahman ibn Mughith told him that Ka'b said, "Whenever Muhammad ﷺ wanted to enter a village, he would say upon seeing it, 'Their people are all the same, except for the evil among them.'" Ka'b also said, "Suhaib narrated this supplication from the Messenger of Allah." And Ka'b said, "It was the supplication of Dawud (David) when he used to face the enemy." Ibn Ishaq differed with this. Ibn Ishaq reported to us that Ibrahim ibn Ya'qub informed us that al-Nufayli narrated to us that Muhammad ibn Salamah narrated to us from Ibn Ishaq from Ata ibn Abi Marwan from his father from Abu Mughith ibn Amr that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ approached Khaibar, he said to his companions, "Stop!" Then he said, "O Allah, Lord of the heavens and whatever they shade," and so on, like that. He used to say it upon entering every village. Zakariyya ibn Yahya reported to us that Umar ibn Ali narrated to us that Abdullah ibn Harun narrated to us that his father narrated to us that Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us from someone whose name I do not remember, from Ata ibn Abi Marwan from his father from Abu Mughith ibn Amr, a similar narration.

53.190 [Machine] What does he say when he returns from travel?
Hallowed is He Who subdued for us this (ride) and we were not ourselves powerful enough to use It as a ride, and we are going to return to our Lord. O Allah, we seek virtue and piety from Thee in this journey of ours and the act which pleaseth Thee. O Allah, lighten this journey of ours, and make its distance easy for us. O Allah, Thou art (our) companion during the journey, and guardian of (our) family. O Allah, I seek refuge with Thee from hardships of the journey, gloominess of the sights, and finding of evil changes in property and family on return. And he (the Holy Prophet) uttered (these words), and made this addition to them: We are returning, repentant, worshipping our Lord. and praising Him. (Using translation from Muslim 1342)
53.191 [Machine] The mention of the difference regarding Abu Ishaq in the news of Bara' ibn Azib in it.
[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from a journey, he used to say, "We are coming back, repenting, worshiping, and praising our Lord." Abu 'Abdur-Rahman and Abu Ishaq said, "We did not hear it from Al-Bara."
That whenever the Prophet ﷺ would return from a trip, he would say: “(We are) Returning, repenting, worshipping, and to our Lord directing the praise (Ā’ibūna tā’būna ʿābidūna lirabbinā ḥāmidūn).” (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3440)
53.192 [Machine] What does he say when he approaches a city?
[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, walking from Usfan towards Madinah. When he approached the city, he said, "We come repentant, worshipping and grateful to our Lord." He continued to say that until we entered the city.
“We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition. When we returned, we overlooked Al-Madinah, and the people were pronouncing the Takbīr, and they raised their voices with it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Verily, your Lord is not deaf nor absent, He is between you and between the heads of your mounts.’ Then he said: ‘O ʿAbdullah bin Qais, should I not inform you of a treasure from the treasures of Paradise: Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh (There is no might or power except by Allah).’” (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3374)
[Machine] I heard Abu Hurairah say, "We asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, what were the people afraid of when they used to say, "When we arrive in the city, provide us with sustenance and residence?"' He ﷺ said, 'They used to fear the injustice of rulers and drought.'"
53.193 [Machine] What does he say when his animal stumbles?
[Machine] On the authority of Ridfa, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When a harmful creature stumbles upon you, do not say, 'May Satan be miserable,' for he becomes more arrogant until he becomes like a house and says, 'By my power, I have created it.' Rather, say 'In the name of Allah,' for he becomes smaller until he becomes like a fly."
[Machine] I was a companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and our camel stumbled, so I said, "May the devil be cursed." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not curse the devil, for he becomes big by it until he becomes the size of a house and says, 'By my power.' But say, 'In the name of Allah,' for he becomes small by it until he becomes the size of a fly." Abu Abdullah Al-Sawwab said, "The correct narration according to us is the hadith of Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak, and this mistake (10314) is with me." Muhammad bin Bashshar informed us, Abdul Wahhab told us, Khaled informed us from Abu Tamimah from Abu Al-Malih who said: "A man was riding with the Prophet ﷺ on his mount, and the mount stumbled, so the man said, 'May the devil be cursed,' while facing him (the devil)."
53.194 [Machine] The road
[Machine] While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was walking, a woman came in front of him and I said, "Give way to the Prophet." She replied, "The path is narrow, he can either go right or take a left." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Leave her, as she is stubborn." I said, "Indeed, she is stubborn." He ﷺ said, "It is in her heart." Abu 'Abdul-Rahman 'Afeya bin Yazid, who is trustworthy, and Sulaiman Al-Hashimi, I do not know him.
53.195 [Machine] What to say to someone who has locked their invasion
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Verily, the angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or statues." So I said, "Let's go to Aisha and ask her about this." So we went to her, and I said, "O mother, this person informed me that the Prophet ﷺ said, 'The angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or statues.' Have you heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mention this?" She said, "No, but I will tell you what I have seen him do." She then narrated the incident where he went out for some military expeditions, and I took a cushion and covered it. When he returned, I greeted him at the door and said, "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah, and the mercy of Allah. All praise is due to Allah who honored you, granted you victory, and bestowed His blessings upon you."
53.196 [Machine] What to Say When You Hit a Stone and Stumble, Causing Your Finger to Bleed
While the Prophet ﷺ was walking, a stone hit his foot and stumbled and his toe was injured. He then (quoting a poetic verse) said, "You are not more than a toe which has been bathed in blood in Allah's Cause." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6146)
53.197 [Machine] What does he say when he arrives at a house?
I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: When anyone lands at a place, and then says:" I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of what He has created," nothing would harm him until he marches from that stopping place. (Using translation from Muslim 2708a)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If one of you enters a house and says, 'I seek refuge in the words of Allah from the evil of what He has created,' nothing harmful will come to him in that house until he leaves."
[Machine] On the authority of Sulaiman bin Yasir and Busyr bin Sa'id, they said: A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "I was stung by a scorpion." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "If only you had said, when you reached the evening, 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created,' it would not have harmed you."
53.198 [Machine] What to say when it is night and you are on a trip
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was travelling and night came on, he said: O earth, my Lord and your Lord is Allah; I seek refuge in Allah from your evil, the evil of what you contain, the evil of what has been created in you, and the evil of what creeps upon you; I seek refuge in Allah from lions, from large black snakes, from other snakes, from scorpions, from the evil of jinn which inhabit a settlement, and from a parent and his offspring.

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you should say: 'O Allah, forgive me if You wish; O Allah, be merciful to me if You wish,' but he should always appeal to Allah with determination, for nobody can force Allah to do something against His Will." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6339)

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When anyone of you appeal to Allah for something, he should ask with determination and should not say, 'O Allah, if You wish, give me.', for nobody can force Allah to do something against His Will. (Using translation from Bukhārī 6338)

[Machine] He informed him that he heard Abu Hurairah saying that a man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said to him, "I was bitten by a scorpion." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "If you had said, when you reached the evening, 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created,' it would not have harmed you."

[Machine] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Last night, I was stung by a scorpion." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If you had said in the evening, 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil He has created,' it would not have harmed you."
[Machine] A man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ was bitten, and it affected him as Allah willed. This news reached the Prophet ﷺ, who said, “Indeed, if he had said 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created,' it would not have harmed him (the man).”
[Machine] "Who is Allah's Messenger ﷺ ?", he asked. He replied, "A scorpion stung me." He said, "Indeed, if you say when you enter the evening, 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created, nothing will harm you, if Allah wills."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever says, when evening comes, 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created, it will not harm him any harm that night, three times."

[Machine] A man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ went missing for a night, so they asked about him. When the morning came, he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "What held you back?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah, I was bitten by a scorpion." The Prophet ﷺ said, "If you had said in the evening, 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created three times,' it wouldn't have harmed you."

[Machine] A scorpion bit a man, so he went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. The Prophet said, "Indeed, if you say when you become an evening, 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created, nothing will harm you.' This is Ibrahim ibn Yusuf al-Kufi, who is not strong in narration, and Ibrahim ibn Yusuf al-Balkhi, who is trustworthy, informed us. Ishaq ibn Mansur informed us that Habban informed us that Wuhayb narrated to us from Suhail from his father from a man who embraced Islam similar to him [221]. Ishaq ibn Mansur informed us that Abu Nuaim said that Zuhayr narrated to us from Suhail from his father from a man who embraced Islam. He said, "I was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when a man from his companions came to him and said, 'I was stung by a scorpion yesterday.'" Qutaibah ibn Sa'id informed us that Sufyan narrated to us from Suhail from his father from a man who embraced Islam. He said, "I was with the Prophet ﷺ and a man from the Ansar came to him and said in the end, 'If Allah wills.' Rabia ibn Sulaiman informed us that Asad ibn Musa said that Shu'bah narrated to us from Suhail and his brother from their father from a man who embraced Islam that he was bitten, so he went to the Prophet ﷺ towards him." Ahmad ibn Sulaiman informed us that Ubaidullah narrated to us that Isra'il narrated to us from Abdul Aziz ibn Rufay' from Abu Salih in a letter.

[Machine] Narrated Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If a person recites the perfect words of Allah seeking refuge with them from the evil of what He has created, he will not be bitten by a venomous creature nor harmed." (Hadith number 10360)
Kathir bin 'Ubayd reported: Bakīyah informed us from Az-Zubaydi from Az-Zuhri from Tāriq, from Abu Makhāshim, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ with the same wording. (Hadith number 10361)
Abu Abdur-Rahman Az-Zubaydi said: I am more authoritative than my cousin Az-Zuhri and his cousin owes him no such regard, except that he agrees with an unclear tradition reported from Az-Zuhri. Yunus contradicted him. (Hadith number 10361)
Ahmad bin Amr bin As-Sarh informed us, from the Hadith of Ibn Wahb, from Yunus, from Ibn Shihab. We were informed that Abu Hurayrah narrated something similar.

53.215 [Machine] What does he say when he is afraid of a people?
When the Prophet ﷺ feared a (group of) people, he would say: "O Allah, we make Thee our shield against them, and take refuge in Thee from their evils." (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1537)
[Machine] "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the trench saying, 'O Allah, the Revealer of the Book, swift in taking account, disperser of clouds, defeat them and shake them.'"
[Machine] The last words of Prophet Ibrahim ﷺ when he was thrown into the fire were "HasbunAllah wa ni'mal wakil" (Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs). Your Prophet ﷺ said an example similar to it when the people said to them, "Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them." But it [merely] increased them in faith and they said, "Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs." (Quran 3:173)
