[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us two sermons, the sermon of prayer and the sermon of necessity. As for the sermon of necessity, it begins with "Alhamdulillah, we seek His help and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of ourselves and from our bad deeds. Whoever Allah guides, no one can misguide him, and whoever He misguides, no one can guide him. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger." Zuhair stood and narrated to us, Amr bin Ali informed us, Khalaf bin Tamim narrated to us from Zuhair, who narrated to us from Abu Ishaq, who narrated from Abu Al-Ahwas, who narrated from Abdullah, who said: "When one of you wants to give a sermon of necessity, let him begin by saying 'Alhamdulillah, we seek His help, similar to it' and 'He is One, with no partner.' Shu'bah contradicted them and reported from Abu Ishaq, who narrated from Abu Ubaidah, who narrated from Abdullah."

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said: He taught us the sermon of necessity, saying, "All praise is due to Allah, the same way and more. Then he recited three verses: 'O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared' (Al 'Imran 102), 'O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul' (An-Nisa' 1), and 'O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice' (Al-Ahzab 70). Then he mentioned his need.

We praise Him, seek His help, and seek refuge in Allah from the evil of ourselves. Whoever Allah guides, there is no misguidance for him, and whoever He misguides, there is no guidance for him. And I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, alone, without any partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and messenger." Abu Ubaydah said, "I heard Abu Musa saying, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, "If you want, your sermon can include any of these verses from the Quran: 'Fear Allah as He deserves to be feared and do not die except as Muslims.' (Surah Al-Imran, 3:102) 'Fear Allah, in whom you ask each other for your rights, and fear the wombs (lest you sever its ties). Verily, Allah is ever watching over you.' (Surah An-Nisa', 4:1) 'Fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice.' (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:70) until 'great success.' (Surah An-Nisa’, 4:73).' Then he would speak about his need. Israel combined both of these (verses)."

The Prophet ﷺ used to teach us the way of doing Istikhara (Istikhara means to ask Allah to guide one to the right sort of action concerning any job or a deed), in all matters as he taught us the Suras of the Qur'an. He said, "If anyone of you thinks of doing any job he should offer a two rakʿat prayer other than the compulsory ones and say (after the prayer): -- 'Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi'ilmika, Wa astaqdiruka bi-qudratika, Wa as'alaka min fadlika Al-ʿazlm Fa-innaka taqdiru Wala aqdiru, Wa ta'lamu Wala a'lamu, Wa anta 'allamu l-ghuyub. Waqdir li al-khaira haithu kana Thumma ardini bihi.' (O Allah! I ask guidance from Your knowledge, And Power from Your Might and I ask for Your great blessings. You are capable and I am not. You know and I do not and You know the unseen. O Allah! If You know that this job is good for my religion and my subsistence and in my Hereafter--(or said: If it is better for my present and later needs)--Then You ordain it for me and make it easy for me to get, And then bless me in it, and if You know that this job is harmful to me In my religion and subsistence and in the Hereafter--(or said: If it is worse for my present and later needs)--Then keep it away from me and let me be away from it. And ordain for me whatever is good for me, And make me satisfied with it). The Prophet ﷺ added that then the person should name (mention) his need. (Using translation from Bukhārī 1166)

On the day of the Battle of Khaibar my brother fought a fierce fight by the side of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. His sword rebounded and killed him. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon hill) talked about his death and doubted (whether it was martyrdom). (They said): (He is) a man killed by his own weapon, and expressed doubt about his affair. Salama said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from Khaibar, I said: Messenger of Allah, permit me that I may recite to you some rajaz verses. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted him. 'Umar b. Khattab said: I know what you will recite. I recited: By God, if God had guided us not, We would hive neither been guided aright nor practised charity, Nor offered prayers. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What you have said is true, 'I (continued): And descend on us peace and tranquillity And keep us steadfast if we encounter (with our enemies) And the polytheists have rebelled against us. When I finished my rajaz, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Who composed these verses? I said: They were composed by my brother. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: May God show mercy to him! I said: By God, some people are reluctant to invoke God's mercy on him (because) they say he is a man who died by his own sword. (Hearing this) the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He died as God's devotee and warrior. Ibn Shihab has said: I asked one of the sons of Salama (b. Akwa') about (the death of 'Amir). He related to me a similar tradition except that he said: When I said some people were reluctant invoke God's blessings on him, the Messenger of Allah (may peace be, upon him said: They lied. ('Amir) died as God's devotee and warrior (in the cause of Allah). For him there is a double reward, and he pointed out this by putting his two fingers together.
