[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ moving the soil of the trench until the soil covered his chest hair and he was reciting the poem of Abd Allah bin Rawahah (Bahar Rajz): "O Allah, if it were not for You, we would not have been guided, nor given in charity, nor prayed. So send tranquility upon us and keep our feet steady if we meet [the enemy]. Indeed, the first [enemies] have transgressed against us and if they intend to cause discord, we will confront them with it." Abu Abdullah Al-Rahman said, and it has been narrated from Salamah bin Al-Akwa that this 'rajz' (poem) was for his brother.

I saw Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day (of the battle) of the Trench carrying earth till the hair of his chest were covered with dust and he was a hairy man. He was reciting the following verses of ʿAbdullah (bin Rawaha): "O Allah, were it not for You, We would not have been guided, Nor would we have given in charity, nor prayed. So, bestow on us calmness, and when we meet the enemy. Then make our feet firm, for indeed, Yet if they want to put us in affliction, (i.e. want to fight against us) we would not (flee but withstand them)." The Prophet ﷺ used to raise his voice while reciting these verses. (See Hadith No. 432, Vol. 5).

On the day (of the battle) of Al-Ahzab (i.e. clans) I saw the Prophet ﷺ carrying earth, and the earth was covering the whiteness of his ʿAbdomen. And he was saying, "Without You (O Allah!) we would have got no guidance, nor given in charity, nor prayed. So please bless us with tranquility and make firm our feet when we meet our enemies. Indeed (these) people have rebelled against (oppressed) us but never shall we yield if they try to bring affliction upon us."

When it was the day of Al-Ahzab (i.e. the clans) and Messenger of Allah ﷺ dug the trench, I saw him carrying earth out of the trench till dust made the skin of his ʿAbdomen out of my sight and he was a hairy man. I heard him reciting the poetic verses composed by Ibn Rawaha while he was carrying the earth, "O Allah! Without You we would not have been guided, nor would we have given in charity, nor would we have prayed. So, (O Allah), please send Sakina (i.e. calmness) upon us and make our feet firm if we meet the enemy, as they have rebelled against us. [Machine] I saw the Prophet ﷺ moving from the sand of the trench until he could see the dirt on his abdomen, and he was saying the words of Abdullah bin Rawaha. O Allah, if it weren't for You, we wouldn't have been guided, given charity, or prayed. Send down tranquility upon us and make our steps steadfast if we encounter our enemies. Indeed, the highest group has transgressed against us, and if they intend to cause us turmoil, we refuse.
