53. Actions to Perform Day and Night (13/21)
“Supplicate to Allah to heal me.” He ﷺ said: “If you wish I will supplicate for you, and if you wish, you can be patient, for that is better for you.” He said: “Then supplicate to Him.” He said: “So he ordered him to perform Wudu’ and to make his Wudu’ complete, and to supplicate with this supplication: ‘O Allah, I ask You and turn towards You by Your Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the Prophet of Mercy. Indeed, I have turned to my Lord, by means of You, concerning this need of mine, so that it can be resolved, so O Allah so accept his intercession for me (Allāhumma innī as’aluka wa atawajjahu ilaika binabiyyka Muḥammadin nabi-ir-raḥmati, innī tawajjahtu bika ila rabbī fī ḥājatī hādhihī lituqḍā lī, Allāhumma fashaffiʿhu fīyya).’” (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3578)
[Machine] A blind man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, supplicate to Allah to restore my eyesight." He said, "Should I not inform you of something that is better for you?" He advised him to perform ablution and pray two units of prayer, and then say, "O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to Allah through you concerning the restoration of my eyesight. Intercede with Him for me." So the man left and his eyesight was restored.
53.228 [Machine] Whispering and Mentioning the Differences in the Narratives of Abu Huraira's Report on that
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "People will soon cause confusion among themselves until someone among them will say, 'Who created Allah?' When they say that, respond by saying, 'Allah is One, Allah is the Eternal. He neither begets nor was He begotten, and there is no one comparable to Him.' Then, let them spit to their left three times and seek refuge in Allah from Satan." Umar said, "Then let them spit to their left three times and seek refuge in Allah from Satan."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, the devil comes to one of you and asks, 'Who?' Whoever finds anything of that, let him say, 'I believe in Allah.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The servant will come and say, 'Who created such and such? Who created such and such?' When he reaches this point, let him seek refuge with Allah and refrain. 10425 And according to Ahmad ibn Sa'id al-Marwazi, on the authority of Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim ibn Sa'd, on the authority of the nephew of Al-Zuhri, on the authority of his uncle."
Verily we perceive in our minds that which every one of us considers it too grave to express. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Do you really perceive it? They said: Yes. Upon this he remarked: That is the faith manifest. (Using translation from Muslim 132a)
[Machine] About Abu Hurairah regarding a man who finds something in himself that he does not like to talk about, he said, "That is purely faith."
[Machine] It was said to the Prophet ﷺ, "Indeed, we find something within ourselves that makes us feel too proud to speak about it." He said, "That is the clear sign of faith." And from Amr ibn Ali, from Ghundar, from Shu'bah, from Ibn Muthanna, from Ibn Abi Adi, from Shu'bah, from Zaidah, from both of them, from Asim ibn Abi al-Najud, from Abu Salih, that the Prophet ﷺ mentioned him through a chain of narrations. And from Mudammad ibn Adam and Ahmad ibn Harb, both of them from Abu Mu'awiyyah, from al-Amash, from Abu Salih, from some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, from the Prophet ﷺ in a similar manner. And from Bundar, from Abd al-Rahman, from Sufyan, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Abu Salih, that the Prophet ﷺ mentioned him as a Marqal through Ahmad ibn Sulaiman, from Abu Dawud, from Sufyan, from Habib, from Abu Salih. The Prophet ﷺ said, "He is a Marqal."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was asked about waswasah (whispers from Satan) and he replied, "That is a sign of pure faith." Hammad ibn Abi Sulayman disagreed.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "That is pure faith." It was contradicted by Ishaq ibn Yusuf.
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I find something in myself that I would rather be mute." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah is greater. Praise be to Allah who repelled his scheme to whispering." Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said, "I do not know anyone who followed Ishaq (narrating) this narration, and the authentic (one) is what Abdul Rahman narrated."
[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, I find something in myself that I would rather be a pebble than speak it. So, in the hadith of Mansoor, he said "Allahu Akbar" and they all said "Alhamdulillah, who sent His command back to the whisperings."
[Machine] It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, one of us finds it more beloved to him to have a boil than to speak with it?" He said, "One of them said, 'Praise be to Allah who has only given you the whispers!' and the other said, 'Praise be to Allah who has returned His command to the whispers!'"
[Machine] It was narrated that the Prophet ﷺ was brought two men who differed in their recitation. Each one of them claimed that the Prophet ﷺ recited it in the way he did. So the Prophet ﷺ recited it in both ways and they differed. Then he said to them, "You both have done well." Ubayy said, "This caused me doubt more than I had in the time of ignorance, so I said, 'You both have done well, you both have done well.'" Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ struck my chest with his hand and said, "O Allah, remove the doubt from him." He said, "I felt sweat dripping from me as if I were seeing Allah separating it." Then he said, "I have been commanded to recite the Quran in seven different styles." [250] 10438 It was narrated that Abdur Rahman bin Muhammad bin Salam said: It was narrated to us by Ishaq, who said: It was narrated to us by Al-Awam, from Abu Ishaq, from Sulaiman bin Surad, who said: Ubb bin Ka'b came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with two men who differed in recitation similar to him.
[Machine] Indeed, people asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the whispers that a person may feel more beloved to them than speaking. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "That is a clear sign of faith, as Shaytan comes to the servant in other matters, but when he is prevented, he resorts to that." [251] 10440 Hilal ibn al-Ala reported from his father from Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman from his father from al-Mughirah from Ibrahim ibn Yazid al-Nakha'i from Aisha that a man mentioned to her the whisperings that he feels.
53.229 [Machine] What is recommended for a person to read every night?
"Qul Huwa Allahu ahad [Say: He is Allah, (the) One] is equivalent to one third of the Quran." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3787)
[Machine] Whoever recites {Say, "He is Allah , [who is] One"} [Al-Ikhlas 1] has recited one-third of the Quran.
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ who said, "Can any of you not recite one-third of the Quran every night?" He asked, "Who is capable of doing that?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Certainly, yes. Say, 'He is Allah, [who is] One'" [Surah Al-Ikhlas 1]. Sulayman Al-A'mash narrated it from Ibrahim, who transmitted it to 10,444. Muhammad bin Bashshar informed us, he said, Abdur-Rahman narrated to us, he said, Sufyan informed us, on the authority of Al-A'mash, on the authority of Ibrahim, on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, transmitted it to 10,445. Muhammad bin al-Ala narrated it to us, he said, Abu Muawiyah narrated it to us, on the authority of Al-A'mash, on the authority of Ibrahim, he said, the Prophet ﷺ transmitted it.
53.230 [Machine] The mention of differences on Rabee'ah Ibn Khathim in this Hadith.
[Machine] The Ansari used to say, "Whoever recites {Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One"} [Surah Al-Ikhlas 1], it is equivalent to reciting one-third of the Quran."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Is it difficult for any of you to recite one-third of the Quran every night?" We remained silent, so he repeated his question three times, saying, "I continue to ask and you remain silent." Then he said, "Whoever recites 'Say, He is Allah, the One' (Surah Al-Ikhlas) in one night, has indeed recited one-third of the Quran."
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "Say, 'He is Allah, [who is] One.'" (Surah Al-Ikhlas, verse 1) This verse constitutes one-third of the Quran.
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "Say, He is Allah, the One." [Al-Ikhlas 1]. One-third of the Quran. I do not know of any longer chain of transmission in an authentic hadith than this. Abu Bakr bin Ali informed me, he said, Ubaidullah and Yusuf bin Marwan narrated to us, they said, Fudail bin 'Iyad narrated to us, from Mansur, from Hilal, from 'Amr bin Maymun, from Rabi' bin Khuthaim, from Abdul Rahman bin Abi Layla, from a woman, from Abu Ayyub, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said something similar to this.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever recites in one night 'Say, He is Allah, One,' has indeed recited one-third of the Quran." This is incorrect.

[Machine] A man heard someone reciting {Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One} [Al-Ikhlas 1] repeatedly. When morning came, he went to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and mentioned it to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, it is equivalent to one-third of the Quran." Isma'il ibn Ja'far contradicted him. 10468 Abbas ibn Abdul Azim informed us: Muhammad ibn Jahdam told us: Isma'il ibn Ja'far told us from Malik, who mentioned a word with its meaning from Abdul Rahman ibn Abdullah ibn Abdul Rahman ibn Abi Sa'sa'a.
