53. Actions to Perform Day and Night (19/21)
The Prophet ﷺ said: Do not say: "What Allah wills and so and so wills," but say: "What Allah wills and afterwards so and so wills. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4980)
[Machine] A Jewish person came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "You both swear and commit shirk (associate partners with Allah). You say 'If Allah wills and you will,' and you also say 'By the Kaaba.' The Prophet ﷺ instructed them that when they want to swear an oath, they should say 'By the Lord of the Kaaba' and then say 'If Allah wills and you will.'"
Then, Ahmad bin Hafs narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me from Ibrahim bin Tahman, from Mughira, from Ma'bad bin Khalid, from Qutayla, who was a woman from the Muhajirat (those who migrated from Makkah to Madinah) from Juhayna. She said, "A Jewish woman entered upon Aisha and said, 'You both commit shirk (associate partners with Allah).' And she narrated the rest of the story."
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and spoke to him. The man said, "Whatever Allah wills and whatever you will." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Woe to you! Did you make me equal to Allah? Say, 'Whatever Allah wills alone.'" This incident was different from the opinion of Ishaq ibn Yoonus.
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and spoke to him about a matter. The man said, "What Allah wills and you will." The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Do you make me equal to Allah? Say, 'What Allah wills alone.'"
53.334 [Machine] What is said by one who swears by Al-Lat and Al-Uzza?
"I swore by Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza and my companions said to me: 'What a bad thing you have said! You have said something horrible.' So I went to the Messenger of Allah and told him about that. He said: 'Say: La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulk wa lahul-hamd wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir (There is none worthy of worship except Allah with no partner or associate; His is the Dominion, to Him be all praise, and He is able to do all things). Spit to your left three times, seek refuge with Allah from the Shaitan, and do not say that again.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3777)
"We were talking about something, and I had only recently left Jahiliyyah behind, so I swore by Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah said to me: 'What a bad thing you have said! Go to the Messenger of Allah and tell him, for we think that you have committed Kufr.' So I went to him and told him, and he said to me: 'Say: La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah (There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner) three times, and seek refuge with Allah from the Shaitan three times, and spit dryly to your left three times, and do not say that again.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3776)
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whomever takes an oath in which he mentions Lat and ʿUzza (forgetfully), should say: None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and whoever says to his companion. 'Come along, let us gamble' must give alms (as an expiation). (Using translation from Bukhārī 4860)

53.335 [Machine] What a polytheist is commanded to say
that Ḥuṣayn or Ḥaṣīn came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: O Muḥammad, ʿAbdulmuṭṭalib was better for the people than you: he used to feed them liver and humps and you slaughter them. The Prophet ﷺ then said to him what Allah willed he would said, then he said to him, "What do you order me to say?" He said, "Say, O Allah protect me from the evil of my own self and guide me to the best of my affairs."
He said, he then left and then the man accepted Islam, then he came and said: I came to you and you told me to say 'O Allah protect me from the evil of my self and give me guide me to the best of my affairs,' what should I say now? He said, "Say, O Allah forgive what ˹I done˺ in secret and in public, and for the sins ˹I've committed˺ and the intentional ˹wrong˺ I committed, and what ˹what I did˺ knowingly and unknowingly." (Using translation from Aḥmad 19992)

[Machine] Husayn came to the Prophet ﷺ before embracing Islam and said, "O Muhammad, Abd al-Muttalib was better for your people than you. He used to feed them liver and meat, while you slaughter them." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah say what He wills." Then Husayn said, "O Muhammad, what do you order me to say?" He said, "You say, 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of myself and ask You to determine the right course for me.' " Then Husayn embraced Islam. Afterwards, he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I asked you the first time and I say it now, what do you order me to say?" He said, "Say, 'O Allah, forgive what I have kept secret and what I have declared, and what I have erred in, and what I have been ignorant of, and what I have known.'"
53.336 [Machine] What to say when the news is requested
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ, when he wanted to present a narration, would often begin with a witty statement and then proceed to share the news from sources that have not been previously mentioned.
[Machine] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to inquire about news, he would mimic a playful attitude and bring you news that you were not prepared for."
from his father, that 'Aishah was asked: "Did the Prophet ﷺ used to say any poetry?" She said: "He would say parables with the poetry of Ibn Rawahah, saying: 'News shall come to you from where you did not expect it.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2848)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ asked me, "Do you have any poetry from Umayyah?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Bring it." So I recited a poem for him and he kept saying, "Yes" until I recited one hundred lines.
53.337 [Machine] Mentioning what a person says about what hurts him from his body, and mentioning the difference in the accounts of those who convey the news about that.
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me while I had a pain that almost ruined me. So,the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Rub it with your right hand seven times and say Aʿudhu bi ʿIzzatillah Wa Qudratihi wa Sultanihi min sharri ma ajid." ("I seek refuge in Allah's might, power, an authority, from the evil of what I suffer.)" He said: "So I did it, and Allah removed what I had, and I never ceased telling my family and others to do it." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2080)
[Machine] He informed him that Uthman ibn Abi al-Aas came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he was suffering from a severe pain that almost incapacitated him. He mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , who claimed that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Put your right hand on the place where you feel pain, then wipe it seven times and say, 'I seek refuge in the might of Allah and in His power from the evil that I find in every wipe.'" The wording is from Abu Salih.
[Machine] He complained to the Prophet ﷺ about a pain that he felt in his body, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Place your hand on the part of your body that is in pain and say 'Bismillah' three times, and say 'A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru' seven times." 10774 Yusuf bin Abdullah bin Al-Laith bin Asim told us, on the authority of my grandfather, who heard it from Uthman bin Al-Hakam, who heard it from Yunus, who heard it from Ibn Shihab, that Nafi' bin Jubair informed him that Uthman bin Abi Al-Aas complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about a pain that he felt.
53.338 [Machine] The Mention of What Jibril Used to Seek Refuge for the Prophet ﷺ
“The Prophet ﷺ came to visit me (when I was sick), and said to me: ‘Shall I not recite for you a Ruqyah that Jibra’il brought to me?’ I said: ‘May my father and mother be ransomed for you! Yes, O Messenger of Allah!’ He said: Bismillah arqika, wallahu yashfika, min kulli da’in fika, min sharrin- naffathati fil-‘uqad, wa min sharri hasidin idha hasad (In the Name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you, from every disease that is in you, and from the evil of those who (practice witchcraft when they) blow in the knots, and from the evil of the envier when he envies), three times.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3524)
[Machine] I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ in the morning while he was suffering from pain, the severity of which only Allah knows. Then I entered upon him in the evening and he had recovered. He said, "Gabriel came to me with a cure, so I recovered. Shall I not teach it to you, O Ibn As-Saamit?" I said, "Yes." He said, "In the name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you, seeking healing from every disease that harms you, from the evil of every envier and from the evil eye. In the name of Allah, He will cure you."
“O Muhammad, you are ill. He said: ‘Yes.’ He said: Bismillahi arqika, min kulli shay’in yu’dhika, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin aw hasidin. Allahu yashfika, bismillahi arqika (In the Name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you, from everything that is harming you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye, may Allah heal you. In the Name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you). (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3523)
53.339 [Machine] The remembrance of what Ibrahim ﷺ used to seek refuge with for Isma'il and Ishaq (may Allah bless them)
The Prophet (May peace be upon him) used to seek refuge in Allah for al-Hasan and al-husain, saying ; I seek refuge for both of you in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every poisonous thing and from the evil eye which influences. He would then say; your father sought refuge in Allah by them for Ismail and Ishaq. Abu Dawud said; this is a proof of the fact that the Quran is not created. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4737)

So they gave us thirty sheep, and I went with them. I started reciting Surah Al-Fatiha and wiped the place where he was bitten until he was healed. They gave us the sheep, but I said, "By Allah, I will not eat it. I don't know what Ruqyah is, nor do I know how to perform it correctly." When we arrived in Medina, we went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him of what happened. He said, "How did you know that it was a Ruqyah, and what made you think it was a Ruqyah? Yes, eat it and give me some of it."

Some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ came across a tribe amongst the tribes of the Arabs, and that tribe did not entertain them. While they were in that state, the chief of that tribe was bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion). They said, (to the companions of the Prophet ﷺ ), "Have you got any medicine with you or anybody who can treat with Ruqya?" The Prophet's companions said, "You refuse to entertain us, so we will not treat (your chief) unless you pay us for it." So they agreed to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them (the Prophet's companions) started reciting Surat-al-Fatiha and gathering his saliva and spitting it (at the snake-bite). The patient got cured and his people presented the sheep to them, but they said, "We will not take it unless we ask the Prophet (whether it is lawful)." When they asked him, he smiled and said, "How do you know that Surat-al-Fatiha is a Ruqya? Take it (flock of sheep) and assign a share for me." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5736)

[Machine] About some of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, it was narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Do you have any children?" She replied, "Yes." So he called for the child and placed the child between two of his fingers on his foot. Then he said, "O Allah, diminish the major one and magnify the minor one, remove it from me." So it was extinguished.

We proceeded from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and came to a clan of the Arabs. They said: We have been told that you have brought what is good from this man. Have you any medicine or a charm, for we have a lunatic in chains? We said: Yes. Then they brought a lunatic in chains. He said: I recited Surat al-Fatihah over him for three days, morning and evening. Whenever I finished it, I would collect my saliva and spit it out, and he seemed as if he were set free from a bond. He said: They gave me some payment, but I said: No, not until I ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He (the Prophet) said: Accept it, for, by my life, some accept it for a worthless charm, but you have done so for a genuine one. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3901)

[Machine] That he had taken off a woollen cloak from him, so I looked at him and I was impressed by his appearance, so I affected him with an evil eye. He was seized with a fit of sneezing, so I called him but he did not respond to me, so I went to the Prophet ﷺ and told him about it. He said, "Come with me." So he raised his garment from his ankles until he dipped them in water, so it was as if I was looking at the clarity of the Prophet's ankles. He struck his chest and said, "In the name of Allah, O Allah, remove its heat, coldness, and wetness, by the permission of Allah." So he got up and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If any one of you sees something in himself or his wealth or his brother that impresses him, let him seek blessings, for verily the evil eye is true."

He said: Ask AbuThabit to seek refuge in Allah from that I asked: O my Lord, will the spell be useful? He replied: No, the spell is to be used except for the evil eye or a snake bite or a scorpion sting. Abu Dawud said: Humah means the biting of snakes and sting of the poisonous insects. [Machine] That his father had a urinary retention and he developed a kidney stone, so he taught him a ruqyah that he heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "Our Lord, who is in heaven, may your name be sanctified. Your command is in the heavens and the earth, just as your mercy is in the heavens, make your mercy on the earth, and forgive our weaknesses and sins. You are the Lord of the righteous, so send down healing from your healings and mercy from your mercy upon this pain, so that it may be healed." And he commanded him to recite it over him, so he recited it over him and he was healed. Al-Hasan ibn Abi Maryam narrated that Ahmad ibn Saad ibn al-Hakam ibn Abi Maryam informed us on the authority of his paternal uncle that Al-Layth informed us on the authority of Ziyad ibn Muhammad Al-Ansari that he heard Fadalah say: "Two men came from Iraq seeking a cure for their father who had urinary retention, so the people directed them to Abu Al-Darda. The two men came to him and with them was Fadalah, so they mentioned their problem to him. Abu Al-Darda said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever of you complains of anything or has a brother who complains of anything, let him say..." and he mentioned similar words.''
