Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon sick man to pay him a visit, and said to him, "Don't worry, Allah willing, (your sickness will be) an expiation for your sins." The man said, "No, it is but a fever that is boiling within an old man and will send him to his grave." On that, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Then yes, it is so." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5662)

The Prophet ﷺ paid a visit to a sick bedouin. The Prophet ﷺ when visiting a patient used to say, "No harm will befall you! May Allah cure you! May Allah cure you!" So the Prophet ﷺ said to the bedouin. "No harm will befall you. May Allah cure you!" The bedouin said, "You say, may Allah cure me? No, for it is a fever which boils in (the body of) an old man, and will lead him to the grave." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes, then may it be as you say."

Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon a sick bedouin in whom he went to visit and said to him, "Don't worry, Tahur (i.e., your illness will be a means of cleansing of your sins), if Allah Will." The bedouin said, "Tahur! No, but it is a fever that is burning in the body of an old man and it will make him visit his grave." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then it is so."

Making dua for the sick when you visit them; Sickness expiates sins of a believer

Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon a man for a sick visit and said to him:

"lā baʾs, ṭahūrun, in shā Allāh!"

(It's okay, ˹its spiritual˺ cleansing ˹for your faults˺, by the Will of Allah)

The man said, "No, it is in fact a fever that is boiling within an old man and will send him to his grave." On that, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Then yes, so be it."

ذِكْرُ مَا يُسْتَحَبُّ لِلْعُوَّادِ أَنْ يُطَيِّبُوا قُلُوبَ الْأَعِلَّاءِ عِنْدَ عِيَادَتِهِمْ إِيَّاهُمْ

[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ entered upon a bedouin man who was experiencing fever. The Prophet said, "There is no harm, it is a means of purification, God willing." The man responded, "No, rather it is a severe heat upon an old and aged Sheikh who is being cooked in the graves." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Well then, it is good."
