"عَنِ ابْن عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ النَّبى ﷺ دَخَلَ عَلَى أَعْرَابِىٍّ يَعُودُهُ، فَقَالَ: طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ الله، فَقَالَ الأعْرَابِىُّ: كَلاَّ بَلْ حُمَّى تَفُورُ عَلَى شَيْخٍ كَبِيرٍ، كَيْمَا أَنْ تُزيرهُ الْقُبُورَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : فَنَعَمْ إِذَنْ".

Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Prophet ﷺ went to visit a bedouin who was ill. When the Prophet ﷺ visited someone who was ill, he would say, 'There is no harm in it. It is a purification, Allah willing." That man then said, "A purification! No, rather it is a fever which boils (or appears) in an old man and will cause him to visit the graces." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then yes (it is)".

The Prophet ﷺ paid a visit to a sick bedouin. The Prophet ﷺ when visiting a patient used to say, "No harm will befall you! May Allah cure you! May Allah cure you!" So the Prophet ﷺ said to the bedouin. "No harm will befall you. May Allah cure you!" The bedouin said, "You say, may Allah cure me? No, for it is a fever which boils in (the body of) an old man, and will lead him to the grave." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes, then may it be as you say."

The Prophet ﷺ went to visit a sick bedouin. Whenever the Prophet ﷺ went to a patient, he used to say to him, "Don't worry, if Allah will, it will be expiation (for your sins):" The bedouin said, "You say expiation? No, it is but a fever that is boiling or harassing an old man and will lead him to his grave without his will." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then, yes, it is so."

Making dua for the sick when you visit them; Sickness expiates sins of a believer
Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon a man for a sick visit and said to him:
"lā baʾs, ṭahūrun, in shā Allāh!"
(It's okay, ˹its spiritual˺ cleansing ˹for your faults˺, by the Will of Allah)
The man said, "No, it is in fact a fever that is boiling within an old man and will send him to his grave." On that, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Then yes, so be it."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ دَخَلَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ يَعُودُهُ فَقَالَ:
«(لاَ بَأْسَ، طَهُورٌ، إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ!)»
فَقَالَ: كَلاَّ، بَلْ حُمَّى تَفُورُ عَلَى شَيْخٍ كَبِيرٍ كَيْمَا تُزِيرَهُ الْقُبُورَ۔ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: «فَنَعَمْ، إِذًا۔»
Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon a sick bedouin in whom he went to visit and said to him, "Don't worry, Tahur (i.e., your illness will be a means of cleansing of your sins), if Allah Will." The bedouin said, "Tahur! No, but it is a fever that is burning in the body of an old man and it will make him visit his grave." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then it is so."

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , entered upon a Bedouin man who had a fever. The Prophet said, "Fever is a means of expiation and purification." The Bedouin man replied, "No, it is a fever that overwhelms an elderly man, digging graves for him." So the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , got up and left him.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ دَخَلَ عَلَى أَعْرَابِيٍّ يَعُودُهُ وَهُوَ مَحْمُومٌ فَقَالَ كَفَّارَةٌ وَطَهُورٌ فَقَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ بَلْ حُمَّى تَفُورُ عَلَى شَيْخٍ كَبِيرٍ تُزِيرُهُ الْقُبُورَ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَتَرَكَهُ
ذِكْرُ مَا يُسْتَحَبُّ لِلْعُوَّادِ أَنْ يُطَيِّبُوا قُلُوبَ الْأَعِلَّاءِ عِنْدَ عِيَادَتِهِمْ إِيَّاهُمْ
[AI] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ entered upon a bedouin man who was experiencing fever. The Prophet said, "There is no harm, it is a means of purification, God willing." The man responded, "No, rather it is a severe heat upon an old and aged Sheikh who is being cooked in the graves." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Well then, it is good."
