Making dua for the sick when you visit them; Sickness expiates sins of a believer

bukhari:5662Isḥāq > Khālid b. ʿAbdullāh > Khālid > ʿIkrimah > Ibn ʿAbbās

Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon a man for a sick visit and said to him:

"lā baʾs, ṭahūrun, in shā Allāh!"

(It's okay, ˹its spiritual˺ cleansing ˹for your faults˺, by the Will of Allah)

The man said, "No, it is in fact a fever that is boiling within an old man and will send him to his grave." On that, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Then yes, so be it."

A description of virtues of various righteous acts

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "(1) Purification is a part of faith; (2) al-ḥamdu lillāh (all praise and gratitude is for Allah alone) fills the scale, (3) subḥān Allāh (Perfection is to Allah alone) and al-ḥamdu lillāh fill up what is between the heavens and the earth; (4) prayer is a light; (5) charity is proof ˹of one's faith˺; (6) patience is brightness; and (7) the Quran is evidence either for you or against you."

"All men go out early in the morning and sell themselves, thereby either earning salvation or earning destruction."

The leading duʿāʿ for seeking forgiveness (istighfār)

abudawud:5070Aḥmad b. Yūnus > Zuhayr > al-Walīd b. Thaʿlabah al-Ṭāʾī > Ibn Buraydah from his father

from the Prophet ﷺ who said: "If anyone says in the morning or in the evening: 'O Allah! You are my Lord; there is no god except You, You have created me, and I am Your servant and I hold on to Your covenant and promise as much as I can; I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done: I acknowledge Your favour upon me, and I acknowledge my sin. So pardon me, for none but You pardons sins,' and he dies during the daytime or during the night, he will enter Paradise."

Dua and dhikr after performing the wudu

tirmidhi:55Jaʿfar b. Muḥhammad b. ʿImrān al-Thaʿlabī al-Kūfī > Zayd b. Ḥubāb > Muʿāwiyah b. Ṣāliḥ > Rabīʿah b. Yazīd al-Dimashqī > Abu Idrīs al-Khawlānī and Abu Uthmān > ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whoever performs wudu, and performs the wudu well, then says:

ash-hadu an lā ilāha illa Allāh, waḥdahū lā sharīka lahū, wa-ash-hadu anna muḥammadan ʿabduhū wa-rasuluhu; Allāhumma jaʿalnī min al-tawwābīn wa-jaʿalnī min al-mutaṭahhirīn

(I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, who ha no partners, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger; O Allah! Make me among those who constantly repent, and make me among those who thoroughly purify themselves.)

... then eight gates of Paradise are opened for him, that he may enter by whichever of them he wishes.

Abū ʿĪsá said: On this topic, there are narrations from Anas and ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir. Abū ʿĪsá also said: The Hadith of ʿUmar has been contradicted with that of Zayd b. Ḥubāb in this hadith. He said: ʿAbdullāh b. Ṣāliḥ and others narrated from Muʿāwiyah v. Ṣāliḥ, from Rabīʿah b. Yazīd, from Abū Idrīs, from ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir, from ʿUmar; and from Rabīʿah from Abū ʿUthmān, from Jubayr b. Nufayr, from ʿUmar. And the chain of this Hadith has iḍṭirāb and it cannot be authentically be attributed to the Prophet ﷺ. Muhammad and Abū Idrīs said that this nothing was heard from ʿUmar.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever says when he reaches the evening: “I am pleased with Allah as ˹my˺ Lord, with Islam as ˹my˺ religion, and with Muhammad ﷺ as ˹my˺ Prophet," it is a duty upon Allah to please him."

Abū ʿĪsá said that this Ḥadīth is Ḥasan-Gharīb in this particular context.

Dua for pain

ibnmajah:3522Abū Bakr > Yaḥyá b. Abū Bukayr > Zuhayr b. Muḥammad > Yazīd b. Khuṣayfah > ʿAmr b. ʿAbdullāh b. Kaʿb > Nāfiʿ b. Jubayr > Uthmān b. Abū al-ʿAaṣ al-Thaqafī

I came to the Prophet ﷺ and I was suffering pain that was killing me. The Prophet ﷺ said to me: "Put your right hand on it and say:

bismillāh, aʿūdhu bi-ʿizzati allāhi wa-qudratihī min sharri ma ajidu wa-uḥādhiru.

(In the Name of Allah, I seek refuge in the might and power of Allah from the evil of what I feel and what I fear),

seven times." I said that, and Allah healed me.

Several virtues of exalting Allah after Fajr and Maghrib prayers

ahmad:17990Rawḥ > Hammām > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Ḥusayn al-Makkī > Shahr b. Ḥawshab > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Ghanm

from by the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "Whoever says before leaving and getting up from the Maghrib and Fajr prayers:

lā ilāha illā Allāhu, waḥdahū, lā sharīka lahū, lahū al-mulku, wa-lahū al-ḥamdu, bi-yadihī al-khayr, yuḥyī wa-yumītu, wa-huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr

(There is no god but Allah, alone, without partners. Him is the sovereignty and to Him is the praise. In His hand is all good. He gives life and He gives death, and He has Power over everything.)

... ten times: (1) ten good deeds will be recorded for him, and (2) ten bad deeds will be erased from him, and (3) he will be raised ten degrees, and (4) it will also be a protection for him against every disliked thing, and (5) a protection from the accursed Satan, and (6) no sin will reach him except shirk (associating partners with Allah), and (7) he will be among the best of people in terms of deeds, except for a person who does better than him in what he says."

al-ḥamdu lillāhi ʿadada mā khalaqa, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi milʾa mā khalaqa, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi ʿadada mā fī al-samāwāti wal-arḍ, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi milʾa mā fī al-samāwāti wal-arḍ, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi ʿadada mā aḥṣā kitābuhu, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi milʾa mā aḥṣā kitābuhu, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi ʿadada kulli shayʾ, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi milʾa kulli shayʾ

(All praise is due to Allah as much as the number of what ˹creations˺ He created, and all praise is due to Allah as much as what fills what He created. All praise is due to Allah as much as the number of what are in the heavens and the earth, and all praise is due to Allah as much as what fills the heavens and the earth. All praise is due to Allah as much as the number of what His Book has enumerated, and all praise is due to Allah as much as what fills that His Book has enumerated. All praise is due to Allah as much as the number of everything, and all praise is due to Allah as much as what fills everything.)

... and do the same ˹saying˺ subḥān Allah (glory be to Allah) then, that is the greatest.
