39. Marriage
[Machine] "On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said: Women are married for four reasons, for their wealth, their lineage, their beauty, and their religion. Therefore, choose the one with religion, may your hands be covered in dust."
It was narrated from Jabir that he married a woman at the time of the Messenger of Allah, and the Prophet met him and said: "Have you got married, O Jabir?" He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'A virgin or a previously-married woman?' I said: 'A previously-married woman.' He said: 'Why not a virgin who would play with you?' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have sisters, and I did not want her to come between them and I.' He said: 'That's better then. A woman may be married for her religious commitment, her wealth or her beauty. You should choose the one who is religiously committed, may your hands be rubbed with dust (may you prosper).'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3226)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, the entire world is a provision, and the best provision of the world is a righteous woman."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ says, "Do not marry women for their beauty, as their beauty may cause them to become arrogant. And do not marry women for their wealth, as their wealth may lead them to be disobedient. Rather, marry them for their faith. A black slave woman who is pious is better than a beautiful woman who is irreligious." This is the preferred wording of the hadith of Ibn Bashran, and in the narration of Abu Zakariyya may Allah have mercy on him, it is said "a hyena." And Allah knows best.
