39. Marriage
[Machine] Umar Ibn Al-Khattab married Um Kulthum bint Ali and he attended a gathering in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ between the grave and the pulpit for the Muhajireen (Muslims who migrated from Mecca to Medina). He was the only one sitting in that gathering, so they prayed for blessings for him. He said, "I swear by Allah that he did not call me to marry her except that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Every severed cause and lineage on the Day of Judgment, except for what is from my cause and lineage, the narration of Ibn Ishaq is a reliable hadith and it has been narrated from other reliable sources as well."
[Machine] "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: Every lineage and connection will be severed on the Day of Judgment, except for my lineage and connection. So I wanted to have a connection and lineage from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Marry your two cousins, Hasan and Husain. They said: It is a woman's choice for herself. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) got angry, and Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) held onto his garment and said, 'Have patience with your separation, O our father.' So, they were married."
[Machine] "From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: Fatimah is a part of me, whoever angers her angers me, and whoever pleases her pleases me. And on the Day of Resurrection, lineages will be cut off except for my lineage, my cause, and my son-in-law."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every lineage will be cut off except for my lineage, my companions, and my son-in-law." This is how it is.
