53. Actions to Perform Day and Night (6/21)
The Prophet ﷺ said, "If anyone of you, when intending to have a sexual intercourse with his wife, says: 'Bismillah, Allahumma jannibna-sh-shaitan, wa jannibi-sh-shaitan ma razaqtana,' and if the couple are destined to have a child (out of that very sexual relation), then Satan will never be able to harm that child." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6388)
53.105 [Machine] What the son of his building says, and what is said to him
[Machine] Anas ibn Malik said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ married Zainab bint Jahsh, and I was sent as a invite for a meal. So, I invited the people and they would come and eat and then leave. Then, another group would come and eat and then leave. So, I said, "O Prophet of Allah, I have invited to the extent that I can't find anyone else to invite." He said, "Raise your food." So, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left and went towards Aisha's chamber and said, "Peace be upon the people of the house." They replied, "And peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah. How did you find your family?" He went to his wife's chamber and they said the same as Aisha had said.
[Machine] Did not the Messenger of Allah ﷺ build a house for Zainab and provide bread and meat for the Muslims? And then he went to the mothers of the believers and greeted them and they greeted him and prayed for him. He used to do this in the morning after building the house.
53.106 [Machine] What does he say when he eats?
[Machine] When we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we were invited to a meal and we did not put our hands on it until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ put his hand on it. So we were invited to a meal and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not put his hand on it, so we withdrew our hands. Then, a Bedouin came as if he was being chased, and he reached out his hand to the plate. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took his hand and made him sit down. Then, a servant girl came and reached out her hand to the plate. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took her hand and said, "When the devil made me forget to mention the name of Allah upon our food, he brought this Bedouin to make it permissible for him, and when we withheld him, he brought this servant girl to make it permissible for her. By Allah, his hand is in mine with her hand." Then he mentioned the name of Allah and ate.
53.107 [Machine] What does he say to the one who eats?
“I was a boy in the care of the Prophet ﷺ and my hand used to wander all over the plate. He said to me: ‘O boy! Say the Name of Allah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is in front of you.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3267)
That he entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he has some food. He said: "Sit down O my son! Mention Allah's Name and eat with your right hand, and eat what is nearest to you." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1857)
That he entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he has some food. He said: "Sit down O my son! Mention Allah's Name and eat with your right hand, and eat what is nearest to you." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1857)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "O my son, when you eat, say the name of Allah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is in front of you."
[Machine] I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ one day while he was eating. He said, "Sit and eat, O my son, and mention the name of Allah and eat with your right hand, and eat from what is in front of you."
I was a boy under the care of Messenger of Allah ﷺ and my hand used to go around the dish while I was eating. So Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, 'O boy! Mention the Name of Allah and eat with your right hand, and eat of the dish what is nearer to you." Since then I have applied those instructions when eating. (Using translation from Bukhārī 5376)
[Machine] It is narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Say Bismillah and eat from what is in front of you." Qutaybah disagreed with him.
A meal was brought to Messenger of Allah ﷺ while his step-son, ʿUmar bin Abi Salama was with him. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Mention the Name of Allah and eat of the dish what is nearer to you." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5378)
53.108 [Machine] What to say if you forget the name and then remember
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to eat in his house when a hungry Bedouin came and he fed him with two morsels of food. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If he had mentioned the name of Allah, it would have been sufficient for you all. So, when any one of you eats, let him mention the name of Allah. If he forgets to mention the name of Allah in the beginning, let him say, 'In the name of Allah' in the beginning and at the end."
[Machine] It was narrated to us by Umayyah ibn Makhshiyy, who was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , that the Prophet ﷺ saw a man eating without mentioning the name of Allah. When the man was about to eat his last portion, he said "Bismillah" (In the name of Allah) at the beginning and end of it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The devil was eating with him until he mentioned the name of Allah, and then the devil vomited what he had eaten."
53.109 [Machine] What does he say when he is full from food?
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "When Amr was full from eating, he would say, 'Praise be to Allah, abundant, good, blessed praise that is not ingratitude or farewell.' Ahmad (one of the narrators) said, 'nor is it wanting or dependant.' And the wording is that of Ahmad."
53.110 [Machine] What to say when the table is lifted
When the food cloth was removed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “praise be to Allah abundantly and sincerely, of such a nature as is productive of blessing, is not insufficient, Abandoned, or ignored, O our lord.” (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3849)
53.111 [Machine] What does he say when he drinks?
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ate or drank, he said: "Praise be to Allah Who has given food and drink and made it easy to swallow, and provided an exit for it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3851)
53.112 [Machine] What is said when drinking milk, and mentioning the difference regarding Ali ibn Zaid ibn Jud'an's report about Ibn Abbas in it
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever is fed by Allah, let him say, 'O Allah, feed us better than this.' And whoever is given milk by Allah, let him say, 'O Allah, bless it for us and increase it for us, for there is nothing that can replace food and drink other than milk.'" [116] 10046 Muhammad ibn Bashshar informed us, he said: Muhammad informed us, he said: Shu'bah informed us, from 'Ali ibn Zaid, he said: I heard 'Umar ibn Abu Haramalah saying, I heard Ibn Abbas saying, the Prophet ﷺ said something similar.
53.113 [Machine] The mention of the differences of the narrators regarding the news of Abu Sa'id in that
“Whenever the Prophet ﷺ ate, he would say: Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi at’amana wa saqana wa ja’alana Muslimin (Praise is to Allah Who has fed us, given us to drink, and made us Muslims).” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3283)
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his food, he said: "Praise be to Allah Who has given us food and drink and made us Muslims." (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3850)
When the Prophet ﷺ used to eat or drink, he would say: “All praise is due to Allah who fed us and gave us drink, and made us Muslims (Al-ḥamdulillāh, alladhī aṭʿamanā, wa saqānā, wa jaʿalanā muslimīn).” (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3457)
53.114 [Machine] What does he say when people eat with him?
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was visited by a person who brought him food. He would eat dates and place the pits on the back of his finger, and then he would throw them away. Then, he got onto a white camel, so I stood up to hold its reins. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, supplicate for us." He said, "O Allah bless them in what You have provided for them, forgive them, and have mercy upon them." Abu Dawood and Bahz ibn Asad disagreed with him.
[Machine] I heard Abdullah bin Busrah say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited my father, so my mother brought food to him and he ate it. Then dates were brought to him, and he ate them while saying the following words: "Like this," and he joined his index and middle fingers together and threw the dates pits. Then a drink was brought to him and he drank from it. After that, he passed it to the person on his right, and said, "Oh Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah for us." He said, "Oh Allah, bless them, provide for them, forgive them, and have mercy on them." [118] 10052
Amr bin Yazeed Abu Burayd told us that Bahz bin Asad told us that Shu'bah told us that Yazid bin Khumayr told me that he heard Abdullah bin Busrah say something similar.

[Machine] The Prophet of Allah, ﷺ , used to say when he broke his fast with a family, "The fasting people have broken their fast with you, and the righteous ones have eaten your food, and the angels have sent their blessings upon you." Abu Abdullah Al-Rahman Ibn Abi Kathir said, "I did not hear this from Anas."

I saw Ibn Umar holding his beard with his hand and cutting what exceeded the handful of it. He (Ibn Umar) said that the Prophet ﷺ said when he broke his fast: Thirst has gone, the arteries are moist, and the reward is sure, if Allah wills. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2357)
53.117 [Machine] What to say when invited while fasting
If any one of you is invited, he should accept (the invitation). In case he is fasting, he should pray (in order to bless the inmates of the house), and if he is not fasting he should eat. (Using translation from Muslim 1431)
53.118 [Machine] What to say when washing hands
[Machine] A man from the Ansar, from the people of Quba, invited the Prophet ﷺ , so we went with him. When he ate and washed his hands or his hands were washed, he said over us: "All praise is due to Allah, who feeds and is not fed upon. He guided us and provided us with food and drink, and every good blessing is from Him. All praise is due to Allah, who does not need to be bid farewell, nor repaid, nor thanked. All praise is due to Allah, who feeds from the food, provides drink from the drink, clothes from the clothes, guides from misguidance, gives sight to the blind, and bestows favor upon many of His creatures. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds."
53.119 [Machine] What does he say when he is called upon to take the first fruit and he takes it?
O Allah, bless us in our fruits; and bless us in our city; and bless us in our sa's and bless us in our mudd. O Allah, Ibrahim was Thy servant, Thy friend, and Thy apostle; and I am Thy servant and Thy apostle. He (Ibrahim) made supplication to Thee for (the showering of blessings upon) Mecca, and I am making supplication to Thee for Medina just as he made supplication to Thee for Mecca, and the like of it in addition. He would then call to him the youngest child and give him these fruits. (Using translation from Muslim 1373a)
53.120 [Machine] What should one say to someone who gives to him?
[Machine] A sheep was given to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said, "Divide it." Aisha used to ask the servant when he returned, "What did they say to you?" He would reply, "They said: 'May Allah bless you.' So Aisha would say, 'May Allah bless them in return,' and she would respond to them with the same words they said. Our reward will remain for us.
53.121 [Machine] What does he say when he looks up at the sky?
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never raised his head to the sky except that he said, "O Director of Hearts, keep my heart firm on obeying You."
“The Prophet looked at the moon and he said: ‘O Aishah! Do you seek refuge with Allah from the evil of this? For indeed this is Al-Ghasiqu Idha Waqab (The darkened one as it darkens).’” (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3366)
[Machine] He ﷺ was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and he said, "Let me see how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prays." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept, and then he woke up and raised his head to the sky and recited four verses from the end of Surah Al-Imran, 'Verily, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding.' He passed by the four verses and then he inclined his hand towards his knee, took a tooth-stick and used it, then he performed ablution, prayed and then slept. He then woke up and did the same as he did the first time, and then he slept. He then woke up and did the same as he did the first time, and they claim that it was the Tahajjud prayer which Allah commanded."
53.122 [Machine] What do you conclude from reciting the Quran?
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never sat in a gathering, recited the Quran, or performed a prayer without ending it with these words. I said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, I always see you ending every gathering, recitation, and prayer with these words. He replied, "Yes, whoever says something good, a seal is placed upon it, and whoever says something evil, it serves as an expiation for him. Glory is to You (O Allah), and praise belongs to You. There is no god except You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You."
53.123 [Machine] What does he say when he asks for a new garment?
[Machine] The following passage is in Arabic and translates to English as: "When the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , would put on a new garment, he would name it with his own name and say, 'O Allah, you have dressed me with this garment, so all praise is due to you. I ask you for the goodness of it and the goodness for which it was made, and I seek refuge in you from its evil and the evil for which it was made.' This was followed by Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak and was contrary to their opinion by Hammad bin Salamah." [124]
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah, when he wore a new garment, would say, "O Allah, I ask You for the good of it and the good for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil for which it was made." Abu Abdullah Al-Jurairi Hammad ibn Salamah, in his narration, confirmed that it is more reliable than the narration of Isa bin Yunus, because Al-Jurairi had mixed with and heard from Hammad ibn Salamah before the two mixed. Yahya bin Sa'id Al-Qattan said, "It is whispered that we rejected Al-Jurairi during the days of the plague, and the narration of Hammad is more reliable than the narration of Isa and Ibn Al-Mubarak. And with Allah is the success."
53.124 [Machine] What does he say when he sees a garment on his brother
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ saw on Umar a garment and said, "Is this new or washed?" Umar said, "It is washed." The Prophet said, "Wear it new and live honorably and die as a martyr." Abu Abdur Rahman said, "This is a disliked hadith that Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan disapproved of on Abdul Razzaq's authority. Ma'mar did not narrate it except on Abdul Razzaq's authority, and this hadith has been narrated on Ma'mar's authority from Muqil bin Abdullah with differing opinions about it. It has also been narrated on Ma'mar's authority from Ibrahim bin Saad from Az-Zuhri, but it was sent as a Mursal hadith and this hadith is not from Az-Zuhri's hadith. And Allah knows best."
53.125 [Machine] What does he say to the one who comes to him?
[Machine] "From Al-Sa'ib bin Abi Al-Sa'ib, who used to participate with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the time of ignorance, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me and said, 'Welcome, my brother who does not deceive or cheat.'"
[Machine] The sons of Al-Harith ibn Ka'b came to meet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and greeted him, and he said, "Welcome, and peace be upon you. Where have you come from?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, my father and mother are from the tribe of Al-Harith, and they sent me to you with the message of Islam." He said, "Welcome to you. What is your name?" I said, "My name is Akbar." He said, "No, you are Bashir." So the Prophet ﷺ named him Bashir.
53.126 [Machine] What the outsider says to his friends
[Machine] "Come with us to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that we may ask him to make our water flow abundantly, as we are facing a severe drought. We have never asked him for anything except that he has given it to us, and he never asks anything of his Lord except that it is granted to him. So they went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he came out to meet them, saying, 'Welcome to the Ansar (the helpers).' He repeated this three times and said, 'Do not ask me for anything today except that I will give it to you, and I do not ask my Lord for anything except that He grants it to me.' They abandoned their request and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah for our forgiveness.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'O Allah, forgive the Ansar, their children, and the children of their children.'"
53.127 [Machine] How to seek permission
that 'Amr bin 'Abdullah bin Safwan informed him, that Kaladah bin Hanbal had informed him, that Safwan bin Umayyah sent him to bring some milk, colostrum, and Daghabis (a type of herb) to the Prophet ﷺ while he was in the upper valley. (He said): "I entered upon him without seeking permission nor giving Salam. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Go back and say: As-Salamu Alaykum, may I enter?'" And that was after Safwan had accepted Islam." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2710)
A man of Banu Amir told that he asked the Prophet ﷺ for permission (to enter the house) when he was in the house, saying: May I enter ? The Prophet ﷺ said to his servant: Go out to this (man) and teach him how to ask permission to enter the house, and say to him: "Say : Peace be upon you. May I enter?" The man heard it and said: Peace be upon you! May I enter ? The Prophet ﷺ permitted him and he entered. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5177)
53.128 [Machine] How is peace?
[Machine] "I met the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and I said to him, 'Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Peace be upon you, the greeting of the deceased. Peace be upon you,' three times, like this. So say,"
[Machine] From something they said, I asked, "Who is this?" They said, "This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." I said, "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah," three times. He said, "Do not say 'peace be upon you,' as it is the greeting of the dead. Rather, say 'peace be upon you.'"
[Machine] I said to you, "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah." He replied, "Peace be upon you, the greeting of the dead when you meet your believing brother. So say, 'Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.'" [128] 10079 Muhammad ibn Bashshar informed us, he said: Abdul Wahhab informed us, he said: Khalid narrated to us from Abu Tamimah from a man from his people. He said: I sought the Messenger of Allah ﷺ but I could not reach him. So I sat down and there was a group among them that I did not know. When he got up, some of them stood up with him. They said, "O Messenger of Allah!" When I saw that, I said to him, "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah." And he started the conversation.

Umar came to the Prophet ﷺ when he was in his wooden oriel, and said to him: Peace be upon you. Messenger of Allah, peace be upon you! May Umar enter ? (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5201)
