53. Actions to Perform Day and Night (17/21)
[Machine] Narrated Aisha: I said to the Prophet ﷺ , "If I come across Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree), what should I supplicate?" He said, "You should supplicate: 'Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'anni' which means 'O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness, so forgive me.'" I was informed by Muhammad ibn Abdul A'la, who narrated from Al-Mu'tamir, who said, "I heard a whisper from Ibn Buraydah that Aisha said, 'O Messenger of Allah, one who is sent.'"
"O Messenger of Allah, what do you think I should say in my supplication, if I come upon Laylatul-Qadr?" He said: "Say: 'Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni (O Allah, You are Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me).'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3850)
53.295 [Machine] Mentioning the disagreement about Sufyan in this hadith.
[Machine] "If I knew which night is the Night of Decree, I would have increased my supplication to Allah on that night, asking for forgiveness and well-being."
53.296 [Machine] The Issue of Exemption, and Mentioning the Discrepancy of the Narrators' Words about the News of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq in that.
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivering a sermon on the pulpit for the first time in this place, and his eyes were shedding tears when he mentioned the Prophet of Allah ﷺ saying, "Ask Allah for well-being, for no servant is given anything after certainty better than well-being."
[Machine] I heard Abu Bakr As-Siddiq say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us in the first year, and mentioned my father and mother. Then al-Abra (a type of poisonous plant) choked him, and he said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us in the first year, and mentioned my father and mother. Then he said, 'Ask Allah for well-being, for no servant is given anything after certainty (belief) that is better than well-being.'"
[Machine] I heard Abu Bakr saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us in the first year and asked for the well-being and good health for us, and then he was choked by tears. He then repeated, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the first year saying, 'Ask Allah for forgiveness, well-being, and good health, for no servant is given anything after certainty better than good health.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood at my place on the first year, then he paused and said: "Ask Allah for well-being for verily no one is given anything after certainty that is better than well-being. And do not envy one another, do not plot against one another, do not cut off ties with one another, and do not compete with one another. And be brothers as Allah has commanded you."
I came to Madinah one year after the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I found Abu Bakr addressing the people. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood before us last year... and he wept and struggled to speak three times, then he said: 0 people, ask Allah for well-being for no one is given, after certainty of faith, anything like well being and nothing worse than doubt after disbelief. You should be truthful, for it guides to righteousness and they lead to Paradise. Beware of lying, for it guides to immorality and they both lead to Hell. (Using translation from Aḥmad 44)
[Machine] Abu Bakr stood up and mentioned the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He cried and then said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood in this position for the first time and said, 'O people, ask Allah for safety and well-being three times, for no one has been given such well-being after certainty.'"
Abu Bakr -q. addressed us and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us last year and said: “Nothing is shared out among the people that is better than well-being after certainty of faith. Verily, truthfulness and righteousness lead to Paradise and verily lying and immorality lead to Hell.ʿ (Using translation from Aḥmad 49)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , stood among us in the first year, just as I am standing among you now, and he said, "Indeed, people have not been given anything better than forgiveness and good health, so ask Allah for both of them." And Muhammad ibn Rafi' narrated to us, he said: Hussein ibn Ali narrated to us from Zaidah from Asim from Abu Salih who said: Abu Bakr stood on the pulpit and narrated to us this narration twice, one time like this and another time like that.
[Machine] From some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ who said: Abu Bakr became the caliph and he stood up and said, "Among us, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, 'O people! Ask Allah for well-being, for indeed, no one is given anything better than well-being.' It is not certain."
53.297 [Machine] What is said when sleeping, and when waking up
[Machine] I heard Uqbah bin Amir saying, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite the Mu'awwidhatayn (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) in his prayer and he said to me, 'Recite them whenever you go to sleep and whenever you wake up.'"
53.298 [Machine] What to Say When Getting up from Bed and Then Returning to It for a Rest
The Prophet ﷺ said, "When anyone of you goes to bed, he should dust it off thrice with the edge of his garment, and say: Bismika Rabbi Wadaʿtu janbi, wa bika arfa'hu. In amsakta nafsi faghfir laha, wa in arsaltaha fahfazha bima tahfaz bihi 'ibadaka-s-salihin." (Using translation from Bukhārī 7393)
53.299 [Machine] What does he say when he finishes his prayer and lies down in his bed?
[Machine] I sat with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one night and I would hear him, when he finished his prayer and lay down, saying, "O Allah, I seek refuge in Your protection from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your displeasure, and I seek refuge in You from You. O Allah, I cannot praise You enough even if I were eager, but You are as You have praised Yourself." 10662 Muhammad bin Abdul Rahim Al-Barqi informed us, Yahya bin Hassan said, Ismail bin Ja'far said, Yazid bin Khusaifah narrated it from Abdullah bin Abdul Qari from Ali with similar wording.
53.300 [Machine] What he says when he sees in his dream what he loves
The Prophet ﷺ said, "If anyone of you sees a dream that he likes, then it is from Allah, and he should thank Allah for it and narrate it to others; but if he sees something else, i.e., a dream that he dislikes, then it is from Satan, and he should seek refuge with Allah from its evil, and he should not mention it to anybody, for it will not harm him." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6985)
53.301 [Machine] The mention of differences regarding Abi Salamah bin Abdul Rahman in this hadith.
[Machine] "If I see a dream that makes me sick, I go to Abu Qatada and he says, 'If anyone of you sees something he likes, let him tell only those whom he loves. If he sees something he dislikes, let him swoon three times to his left and seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan and from its evil, and not mention it to anyone, for it will not harm him.'" 10665 Ahmad bin Sulaiman reported to us, Ubaidullah reported to us from Isra'il, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Salama, who said: The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever sees a dream that pleases him" - it is Marfu'.
53.302 [Machine] What does one say when they see something in their dream that they dislike, and mentioning the disagreement over Al-Awza'i's narration about the report of Abu Qatadah in it
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Good dreams are from Allah and nightmares are from Satan. If any of you has a nightmare that frightens him, let him spit on his left side three times and seek refuge in Allah from Satan, for it will not harm him.'"
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "A good dream is a glad tidings from Allah, while a bad dream is from Satan. So if anyone of you sees a bad dream which he dislikes, then he should spit on his left side three times and seek refuge in Allah from Satan, for it will not harm him." Abu Salamah said, "I used to see dreams that would make me sick, till I heard Abu Qatadah talking about the Rukyah (incantation). [Sahih al-Bukhari]
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Righteous dreams are from Allah, and nightmares are from Satan. So, if anyone of you has a nightmare that he fears, then let him spit to his left and seek refuge in Allah from Satan, as it will not harm him." Yahya said, "Abu Salama informed me and said, 'I used to have a dream that I feared until it would make me lie down. So, I met Abu Qatadah and he informed me of this.'"
53.303 [Machine] The mention of differences regarding Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman in it.
(a companion of the Prophet ﷺ and one of his cavalry men) "I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "A good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Satan; so, if anyone of you had a bad dream which he disliked, then he should spit on his left and seek refuge with Allah from it, for it will not harm him." (Using translation from Bukhārī 7005)
I heard the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) say: A good vision comes from Allah and a dream (hulm) from the devil, so when one of you sees what he dislikes, he must spit on his left (three times), and seek refuge in Allah from its evil. It will then not harm him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5021)

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say that dreams fall into three categories: Some are the result of a person's own thoughts, which is of no significance. Some are from Satan, and they will not harm him. And some are a true vision from Allah. So, if anyone of you sees something that pleases him, let him tell it to a trusted advisor and seek good interpretation. Surely, the dream of a righteous servant is one part of forty-six parts of Prophethood." Awf ibn Malik said: "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, if it were to be counted, it would be very numerous, like the count of the pebbles.
