[Machine] O Messenger of Allah, will men go out to fight while we stay back and bear witness, even though we are entitled to only half of the inheritance? So Allah, the Almighty, revealed: "And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you exceed others." [Surah An-Nisa, verse 32]
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ inspected me on the battlefield on the Day of Uhud, and I was fourteen years old. He did not allow me (to take part in the fight). He inspected me on the Day of Khandaq-and I was fifteen yearsold, and he permitted me (to fight), Nafi' said: I came to 'Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz who was then Caliph, and narrated this tradition to him. He said: Surely, this is the demarcation between a minor and a major. So he wrote to his governors that they should pay subsistence allowance to one who was fifteen years old, but should treat those of lesser age among children. (Using translation from Muslim 1868a)
[Machine] I was presented on the Day of the Trench with Rafa'ah bin Khadeejah to the Prophet (PBUH). He and I were both fifteen years old at the time, and he accepted us.
[Machine] “Allah’s Messenger ﷺ esteemed a group of people on the day of Uhud, including Zaid bin Jarah, who sacrificed himself, Al-Bara’ bin ‘Azib, Zaid bin Arqam, Sa’ad, the father of Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri, Abdullah bin ‘Umar, and Jabir bin Abdullah. This is mentioned in my book, ‘Uthman bin Abdullah. And I have also seen it in another place, mentioned by Ibn Ubaidullah."
[Machine] "I will not marry unless a man guarantees this orphan for me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ offered the Ansar's young men every year, and whoever among them reached puberty, he would choose for them. He said, "I was offered for a year, and a young man was chosen for me, but he rejected me. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, you have chosen him for me but he rejected me.' If I had wrestled him, I would have defeated him." He said, "Wrestle him then." So I wrestled him and defeated him; thus, he was decided for me."
[Machine] Was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raiding women? And did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ shoot arrows for them? And did he kill young boys? And when does the orphan reach maturity? And who does the fifth belong to? So Ibn Abbas wrote to him, "Indeed, you wrote asking me if the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was raiding women, while he would raid them to cure the sick and benefit from the spoils. As for the arrow, he never shot an arrow for them. And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not kill children, so do not kill them except if you know from them, what Al-Khidr knew from the boy he killed, which differentiated between the believer and the unbeliever, so you may kill the unbeliever and spare the believer. And you wrote when does the orphan reach maturity, and by my life, a man's beard grows (indicating maturity) and he is weak in taking and giving. So when he takes for himself from the good that people take, then the orphanage has departed from him. And you wrote asking me about the fifth, and indeed, we used to say it is for us, but our people did not agree on that, so we accepted it."
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in one of his expeditions, and he passed by some people from Muzaynah. A slave followed him, who was the servant of one of them. When they were on a certain path, he greeted him and said, "So and so?" He said, "Yes." He said, "What do you want?" He said, "I want to fight alongside you." He said, "Did your mistress give you permission?" He said, "No." He said, "Go back to her, for someone like you is like a slave who does not pray, if he dies before returning to her. So recite the greeting of peace to her." So he returned to her and informed her of the news, and she said, "Did Allah command you to recite the greeting of peace to me?" He said, "Yes." She said, "Go back and strive with him."
58.16 [Machine] Those who apologize for weakness, illness, circumstances, and excuse themselves from participating in Jihad. God Almighty said regarding Jihad: "There is no blame upon the weak or upon the ill or upon those who do not find anything to spend - if they are sincere to Allah and His Messenger. There is not upon the doers of good any cause [for blame]. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." [Quran 9:91], until the end of the three verses.
"Jihad of the elderly, the young, the weak, and women, is Hajj and 'Umarah."(Sahah) (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2626)
[Machine] When the verse "Not equal are those believers remaining [at home] - other than the disabled" [Quran 4:95] was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed Zaid to write it. Then, Ibn Umm Maktum came and complained about his disability to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So, Allah ﷻ revealed the verse "Except for the disabled" [Quran 4:95].
[Machine] When the verse "Not equal are those believers remaining [at home] - other than the disabled - and the mujahideen, [who strive and fight] in the cause of Allah" was revealed, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ assigned Zaid to write it down. Then Ibn Umm Maktum came and complained about his disability to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . So Allah revealed the verse "Not equal are those believers remaining [at home] - other than the disabled" [Quran 4:95].
[Machine] I was with the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , when the verse "Not equal are those believers remaining [at home] - other than the disabled - and the mujahideen [striving and fighting] in the cause of Allah" [Quran 4:95] was revealed. Ibn Umm Maktum came to him while I was writing it and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have been afflicted by harm and if I were able to fight, I would have fought." Zaid bin Thabit said, "So the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , placed one of his legs on my thigh, making it heavy, until I thought it would break, then he said to me, 'Write: "Not equal are those believers remaining [at home] - other than the disabled - and the mujahideen."' This is the wording of the Qantari Hadith."
Zaid bin Thabit said “I was beside the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ when the divinely-inspired calmness overtook him and the thigh of the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ fell on my thigh. I did not find any weightier than the thigh of the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ. He then regained his composure and said “Write down. I wrote on a shoulder. Not equal are thise believers who sit (at home), other than those who have a (disabling) hurt, and those who strive in the way of Allaah. When Ibn Umm Makhtum who was blind heard the excellence of the warriors. He stood up and said “Apostle of Allaah ﷺ how is it for those believers who are unable to fight (in the path of Allaah)? When he finished his question his divinely-inspired calmness overtook him, and his thigh fell on my thigh and I found its weight the second time as I found the first time.” When the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ regained his composure, he said “Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said “Other than those who have a (disabling hurt). Zaid said “Allaah, the exalted, revealed it alone and I appended it.” By Him in Whose hands is my life, I am seeing, as it were the place where I put it (i.e., the verse) at the crack in the shoulder.” (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2507)
[Machine] "Allah says, 'Those believers who stay behind, apart from those who are disabled, are not equal to those who strive in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives.' They said, 'They are disabled people who were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and would not fight alongside him. They were suffering from illnesses and diseases, while others were healthy. So, the sick ones were excused more than the healthy ones.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said during one of his journeys, "Indeed, in the city of Madinah, there are men whom we never walked in a path or crossed a valley without them being with us. Illness prevented them from being present to narrate the hadith of Ahmad."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, you have left behind in the city a group of people whom you have not traveled with nor have you spent from your wealth except that they are with you in it." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, how can they be with us when they are in the city?" He said: "The excuse has detained them."
[Machine] About some of the elders of Banu Salamah, they said: Amr ibn Al-Jamuuh was severely crippled in his leg, and he had four young sons who would go out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ whenever he went for a battle. So when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to go to Uhud, his sons said to him, "Indeed, Allah has given you permission to stay behind, so if you stay, we will protect you, and Allah has relieved you from the obligation of Jihad." So Amr ibn Al-Jamuuh came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my sons are preventing me from going out with you, and by Allah, I hope to be martyred. So may I step forward with this crippled leg of mine into Paradise?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "As for you, Allah has relieved you from the obligation of Jihad." Then he said to his sons, "What prevents you from letting him go? Perhaps Allah will grant him martyrdom." So he went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and was martyred on the Day of Uhud.

58.17 [Machine] The Man Who Cannot Find What to Spend
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: By the One in whose hand is my soul, if it were not difficult for the believers, I would not have stayed behind from leading a military expedition in the cause of Allah. But I do not find the means to carry them, and they do not find the means to follow me, and their souls do not feel content to stay behind after me."
It is sufficient sin for a man that he neglects him whom he maintains. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1692)
[Machine] While we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , a young man from the Thaqeef tribe came to us. When we saw him with our own eyes, we said, "If only this young man would dedicate his youth, energy, and strength in the cause of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ overheard our conversation and said, "What is the cause of Allah except for those who fight? Whoever strives for the well-being of his parents is in the cause of Allah. Whoever strives for the welfare of his family is in the cause of Allah. Whoever strives to control his desires is in the cause of Allah. And whoever strives for worldly gain is in the cause of Satan."

When the man sat down, the Prophet ﷺ called him and asked, "How did you say?" The man repeated his question, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Except for debt, that is what Gabriel ﷺ informed me."

There came to Allah's Apostle ﷺ a person and said: I owe allegiance to you for migration and Jihad seeking reward only from Allah. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Is one from amongst your parents living? He said: Yes, of course, both are living. He further asked: Do you want to seek reward from Allah? He said: Yes. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Go back to your parents and accord them benevolent treatment. (Using translation from Muslim 2549d)

[Machine] O Saad's mother, hasn't Allah commanded righteousness towards parents? By Allah, I shall not eat food or drink anything until you disbelieve or I die. So whenever they wanted to feed her or give her something to drink, they would touch her mouth with a stick, then they would offer her food and drink. So the verse was revealed, "And We have enjoined upon man to be good to his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them." [Al-'Ankabut 8].

[Machine] When Talha ibn al-Bara'ah met the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, he said, "O Prophet of Allah, command me to do something that I love and that I will not disobey." The Prophet ﷺ was amazed by this request, as Talha was still a young boy at the time. The Prophet ﷺ then told him, "In that case, kill your father." Talha went out, prepared to carry out this command, but the Prophet ﷺ called him back and said, "I have not been sent to sever family ties."

[Machine] Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah appointed Abu Ubaydah as the idol for Abu Ubaydah, but Abu Ubaydah refused. When al-Jarrah persisted, Abu Ubaydah sought him out and killed him. Allah revealed this verse about him when he killed his father: "You will not find anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons." [Al-Mujadalah 22] until the end. This is the end of the excerpt.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever equips a warrior in the cause of Allah has indeed participated in the battle, and whoever remains behind to take care of his family has also participated in the battle." This is the wording of the hadith of Abd al-Warith and a similar hadith of Ru'h, except that he (the Prophet) said regarding it, "narrated by 'an'" direction.

[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have been wronged, so help me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I do not have anything to help you with." Then, the man said, "Shall I guide you, O Messenger of Allah, to someone who can help me?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever guides someone to good, will have a reward similar to the one who does it." Abu Abdullah said in his narration, "Abu Muawiyah said, 'I have been wronged,' meaning he was killed."

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ announced to go on expedition for Tabuk. I went to my family and then proceeded (on journey). The vanguard of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had already proceeded. So I began to announce loudly in Medina: Is there anyone who takes a man on his ride, and he will get his share (from the booty? An old man from the Ansar (Helpers) spoke loudly: We shall have his share if we take him with us on our mount by turns, and he will have his meal with us. I said: Yes. He said: So go on journey with Allah's blessing. I then proceeded along with my best companion and Allah gave us booty. Some she-camels were given to me as my share of booty. I drove them till I reached him. He came out and sat on the rear part of the saddle of his camel. He then said: Drive them backward. He again said: Drive them forward. He then said: I find your she-camels very gentle. He said: This is your booty which I stipulated for you. He replied: Take your she-camels, my nephew; we did not intend (to get) your portion.
