[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the way of Allah, will Allah forgive my sins?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If you are killed in the way of Allah while being patient, seeking reward, and not turning back, Allah will forgive your sins." When the man sat down, the Prophet ﷺ called him and asked, "How did you say?" The man repeated his question, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Except for debt, that is what Gabriel ﷺ informed me."

البيهقي:١٧٨٢٥ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلْمَانَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الْفَقِيهُ بِبَغْدَادَ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُكْرَمٍ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أنبأ يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ قُتِلْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ كَفَّرَ اللهُ عَنِّي خَطَايَايَ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنْ قُتِلْتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا مُقْبِلًا غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ كَفَّرَ اللهُ عَنْكَ خَطَايَاكَ فَلَمَّا جَلَسَ دَعَاهُ فَقَالَ كَيْفَ قُلْتَ؟ فَأَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ إِلَّا الدَّيْنَ كَذَلِكَ أَخْبَرَنِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said from Said al- Maqburi from Abdullah ibn Abi Qatada that his father had said that a man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah! If I am killed in the way of Allah, expectant for reward, sincere, advancing, and not retreating, will Allah pardon my faults?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Yes." When the man turned away, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called him - or commanded him and he was called to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "What did you say?" He repeated his words to him, and the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Yes, except for the debt. Jibril said that to me."

مالك:٢١-٣٣ – وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "If you are killed in the way of Allah while being patient, expecting reward, not turning away, then Allah will forgive your sins." When the man sat down, the Prophet called him and asked, "How did you phrase your question?" So he repeated it and added, "Except for the debt." Gabriel ﷺ informed me in the same way.
