58. Expeditions
٥٨۔ كِتَابُ السِّيَرِ
[Machine] "Regarding my religion, I swear by Allah that this will not happen until I meet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions who sell food or fodder in the land of Rome from what they obtained from it with gold or silver. In this case, one-fifth belongs to Allah and the tribute belongs to the Muslims."
عَنْ دِينِي وَاللهِ لَا يَكُونُ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى أَلْقَى مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ وَأَصْحَابَهُ مَنْ بَاعَ طَعَامًا أَوْ عَلَفًا بِأَرْضِ الرُّومِ مِمَّا أَصَابَ مِنْهَا بِذَهَبٍ أَوْ فِضَّةٍ فَفِيهِ خُمُسُ اللهِ وَفَيْءُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
[Machine] "That I will be committed to it until I die, anything that was sold for gold or silver in which Allah's share is there, as well as the arrows of the Muslims."
أَنْ لَا أَزَالَ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى أَمُوتَ مَا كَانَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بِيعَ بِذَهَبٍ أَوْ فِضَّةٍ فَفِيهِ خُمُسُ اللهِ وَسِهَامُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
[Machine] That I should not proceed in any of that except by your order, so write to me your command regarding that." Umar wrote to him (the governor): "Allow the people to eat and plant crops, and impose one-fifth on whatever is bought with gold or silver, and the arrows of the Muslims."
أَنْ أَتَقَدَّمَ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِلَّا بِأَمْرِكَ فَاكْتُبْ إِلِيَّ بِأَمْرِكَ فِي ذَلِكَ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ عُمَرُ ؓ أَنْ دَعِ النَّاسَ يَأْكُلُونَ وَيَعْلِفُونَ فَمَنْ بَاعَ شَيْئًا بِذَهَبٍ أَوْ فِضَّةٍ فَفِيهِ خُمُسُ اللهِ وَسِهَامُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
