[Machine] O Saad's mother, hasn't Allah commanded righteousness towards parents? By Allah, I shall not eat food or drink anything until you disbelieve or I die. So whenever they wanted to feed her or give her something to drink, they would touch her mouth with a stick, then they would offer her food and drink. So the verse was revealed, "And We have enjoined upon man to be good to his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them." [Al-'Ankabut 8].

Mother of Saʿd b. Abū Waqqaṣ psychologically tortured him to give up Islam

tirmidhi:3189Muḥammad b. Bashhār And Muḥammad b. al-Muthanná > Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar > Shuʿbah > Simāk b. Ḥarb > Muṣʿab b. Saʿd from his father Saʿd ˹b. Abū Waqqaṣ˺

that his father, Saʿd, said: "Four āyāt were revealed about me" and he mentioned the story. Umm Saʿd had said: "Did not Allah command you to honor (your parents). By Allah! I will not eat or drink anything until I die or you renounce (Islam)." He said: "So when they wanted to make her eat, they would force her mouth open. So this āyah was revealed: And We have enjoined on man to be dutiful to his parents; but if they strive to make you associate (partners) with Me, of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not (29:8)."

Abū ʿĪsá said that this Ḥadīth is Ḥasan-Ṣaḥīḥ.
