10. Zakāh (Prescribed Charity) (7/13)
[Machine] God Almighty said, "And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion." [Al-Bayyinah: 5]
[Machine] I used to wear garments made of gold, so I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, is this considered a treasure?" He replied, "It is not considered a treasure until you pay its zakat (obligatory charity), and once you do, then it is purified. Abu Ali Ar-Rudhbary informed us that Muhammad bin Bakr narrated to us, who informed us from Abu Dawood, who informed us from Muhammad bin Isa, who informed us from Attab, who mentioned it. And this is a narration that can be attributed solely to Thabit bin Ajlan. And Allah knows best.
10.78 [Machine] Who said Zakat on ornaments includes their value?
[Machine] The translation of the passage "زَكَاةُ الْحُلِيِّ عَارِيَتُهُ" into English is "The Zakat of the jewelry is its bare minimum."
[Machine] About al-Sha'bi, in one of the two narrations about him.
10.79 [Machine] Who said that the zakat of jewelry was only mandatory at the time when jewelry made of gold was forbidden, but when it became permissible for women, its zakat was no longer obligatory with usage, just like the zakat of livestock? Many of our companions hold this opinion.
10.80 [Machine] Context of news indicating the prohibition of adornment with gold
The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone wants to put a ring of fire on one he loves, let him put a gold ring on him: if anyone wants to put a necklace of fire on one he loves, let him put a gold necklace on him, and if anyone wants to put a bracelet of fire on one he loves let him put a gold bracelet on him. Keep to silver and amuse yourselves with it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4236)
The Prophet ﷺ as saying : You women folk, have in silver something with which you adorn yourselves. I assure you that any woman of you who adorns herself with gold which she displays will be punished for it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4237)
The Prophet ﷺ as saying: Any woman who wears a gold necklace will have a similar one of fire put on her neck on the Day of Resurrection, and any woman who puts a gold earring in her ear will have a similar one of fire put in her ear on the Day of Resurrection. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4238)
[Machine] The daughter of Hubayrah came to the Prophet ﷺ with a handful of gold rings. The Prophet ﷺ struck her hand, so she went to Fatimah and complained to her. Thawban entered with the Prophet ﷺ to Fatimah and I was with them. She had taken a gold chain from her neck and said, "Abu Hassan gave this to me." She had the chain in her hand, so the Prophet ﷺ said, "Are you pleased that people say, 'Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, has a chain of fire in her hand?'" Then he left, without sitting. Fatimah proceeded to sell the chain and bought a slave girl with it, whom she then freed. When the Prophet ﷺ heard about this, he said, "Praise be to Allah who saved Fatimah from the Fire." Abu al-Hasan ibn Abdan informed us, Ahmad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, Tamtam narrated to us from Muhammad ibn Ghaleb, from Musa, from Hammam, from Yahya, from Zaid ibn Abi Salamah, from his grandfather, who said that Abu Asma told him that Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , said something similar, so these narrations and what is mentioned in them indicate the prohibition of adorning oneself with gold.
10.81 [Machine] Context of news indicating its permissibility for women.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said that silk and gold are forbidden for the males of my community but permissible for their females. This has been narrated to us in the hadith of Ali ibn Abi Talib, Uqbah ibn Amir, and Abdullah ibn Amr from the Prophet ﷺ .
The Prophet ﷺ got some ornaments presented by Negus as a gift to him. They contained a gold ring with an Abyssinian stone. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turning his attention from it took it by means of a stick or his finger, then called Umamah, daughter of Abul'As and daughter of his daughter Zaynab, and said: Wear it, my dear daughter. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4235)
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ adorned her mother and her aunt, and their father was Abu Umamah As'ad bin Zurarah. He entrusted them to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so he adorned them with a necklace made of gold and pearls. Zainab said, "I already possessed some of the jewelry or parts of it."
[Machine] I was in the company of the Prophet ﷺ along with my two sisters, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would adorn us with gold and pearls. The narration of Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr states that the Prophet ﷺ would adorn us. According to the narration of Abu 'Ubaid, Ibn Ja'far said: "He would adorn us with golden bracelets and pearls," and Safwan said: "He would adorn us with silver and pearls." Abu 'Ubaid said: Abu 'Amr, the narrator of this hadith, said that the word "Ra'athah" refers to earrings. These narrations and the evidence mentioned in them indicate the permissibility of adorning women with gold. We also deduced its permissibility for them from the consensus on the permissibility, as there is no clear prohibition related to them. And Allah knows best.
10.82 [Machine] What is permissible for a man to adorn himself with in terms of his ring, sword ornament, and Quran when they are made of silver.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ had a gold ring brought to him, so he put it on his right hand and made a mark on it from the part that was below his palm. People then started wearing gold rings. When he saw that, he took off the ring and said, "I will never wear it again," and he replaced it with a ring made of silver.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a gold ring and placed its gem on the inner part of his palm. People followed him and did the same, taking a ring made of paper or silver.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a ring made of leaves. It was in his possession, then it was in the possession of Abu Bakr after him, then it was in the possession of Umar, then it was in the possession of Uthman, until it fell from it into the well of Aris, with the inscription of "Muhammad, Messenger of Allah".
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ used to wear a silver ring on his right hand, with the gemstone facing inward, and he would place the gemstone on the lower part of his palm.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ wore a silver ring on his right hand, and it had an Abyssinian gemstone set in it which he would arrange to face the palm of his hand.
[Machine] Translation: "It is as if I am looking at the ring of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, placed on his left hand."
[Machine] The Prophet's ﷺ ring was on his right hand and he pointed to his pinky finger on his left hand. The sheikh said, "It is likely that this narration is more correct than the narration of Al-Zuhri from Anas about the ring that he made from paper, as Al-Zuhri narrated from Anas that he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a ring made of paper for one day. Then people started making paper rings and wearing them, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ threw his ring and then the people threw their rings. It is also likely that the mention of paper in this story is a mistaken understanding that Al-Zuhri had, so it was attributed to him as a misconception. What he actually threw was his gold ring, and then he later got a ring made of paper. The narration of Ibn Umar indicates that the one he put on his right hand was his gold ring, then he threw it, so it is possible that the mistake is in the narration of Yunus from Al-Zuhri from Anas and it is said that Anas ibn Malik only mentioned the right hand in which he placed the gold ring, as Abdullah ibn Umar clarified. Al-Zuhri's narration preceded the mention of paper, and the misunderstanding occurred in the narration of who narrated from Al-Zuhri, mentioning the right hand in paper. Allah knows best. Sulaiman ibn Bilal narrated from Ja'far ibn Muhammad from his father, which indicates the authenticity of this combination, that the one he put on his right hand was his gold ring and the one he put on his left hand was his silver ring. Allah knows best.

[Machine] "He (Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ) used to wear a gold ring on his right hand on his little finger until he returned home and took it off. Then he would wear a silver ring on his left hand. Abu Bakr, Umar ibn al-Khattab, Ali ibn Abi Talib, Hasan, and Husain, they all used to wear rings on their left hand. Ja'far ibn Muhammad said: In the ring of Hasan and Husain, the name of Allah was engraved, and in the ring of Abu al-Izzah, it was written 'for the sake of Allah all together.'"

[Machine] About my grandfather, they gathered the Quran during the time of Uthman. And they distributed the copies of the Quran in this way or something similar.
10.83 [Machine] Who refrained from adorning with silver and saw the sword's ornamentation from treasures.
[Machine] "I saw a man asking Abu Umamah, 'Do you consider the ornamental value of swords more important than treasures?' Abu Umamah replied, 'Yes.' Then he said, 'Indeed, I only inform you of what I have heard.'"
[Machine] Indeed, a man can be identified by his possessions, to the extent that even the sheath of his sword can reveal his character.
[Machine] Abu Dharr looked at Abu Huraira, who had a sword covered in silver, and said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'There is no one who will abandon a yellow or white cloth except that it will be heated up for them on the Day of Judgment.'" Then, he threw it away, as a poor person would do.
[Machine] The sandals of Abu Huraira's sword were made of silver. Abu Dharr prohibited him from wearing them. He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever leaves white or yellow sandals unpolished, it is as if he said this.'" Uthman ibn Jabalah narrated it from Shu'bah, and Ibn Abi Adi narrated it from Shu'bah and from the son of Abd al-Wahid, and Abu Dawud narrated it from Shu'bah, from the son of Abd al-Wahid or the son of Abd al-Wahid, and Mu'adh narrated it from Shu'bah, from the son of Abd al-Wahid. Al-Bukhari said about it, "There is a difference of opinion."
10.84 [Machine] The prohibition of men's adornment with gold
[Machine] I went to the Prophet ﷺ and I had a gold ring on my finger. He asked, "Do you pay the Zakat for this?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, is there Zakat for this?" He replied, "Yes, it is a significant amount." Al-Walid said, "So I asked Sufyan, how do you pay Zakat for a ring that is worth only a small amount?" He said, "You add it to what you own in terms of the obligatory weight for Zakat, and then you pay the Zakat for it. That's how it is."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was approached by a man wearing a large golden ring. The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you pay the zakat for this?" The man replied, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the zakat for this?" When the man turned away, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is a great, burning fire."
10.85 [Machine] Prohibition of Gold and Silver Utensils for Men and Women
[Machine] From Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, she said that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Verily, the one who drinks from silver utensils is as if he is swallowing fire from the Hellfire."
[Machine] "Anyone who drinks from a vessel made of gold or silver is causing a fire from hell to be dragged in their stomach. This mentioned the gold without mentioning food. The mention of food was narrated in the Hadith of Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, then in the Hadith of Ali ibn Abi Talib and Anas ibn Malik in the Book of Purification. And with Allah is the facilitation."
10.86 [Machine] What is not subject to Zakat except for gold and silver.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no zakat on a stone." Abu Sa'ad al-Malini narrated to us, Abu Ahmad ibn 'Adi al-Hafith informed us, and Yazid ibn 'Abdullah ibn Himas informed us, narrating from Kathir ibn 'Ubayd, narrating from Baqiyyah who narrated from 'Umar al-Kalai'i about it. This narration was also transmitted by 'Uthman ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Waqqaasi from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb in raised form, and it was narrated by Muhammad ibn 'Abdullah al-Arzmii from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb from his father from his grandfather in suspended form. All the narrators of this hadith from 'Amr are weak, and Allah knows best.
[Machine] There is no Zakat in its essence, and this is cut off and suspended.
[Machine] There is no zakat in gemstones such as rubies, sapphires, pearls, or anything other than gold and silver. This statement is attributed to Ata, Sulayman ibn Yasar, Ikrimah, Zahri, and Nakha'i, and Mak'hul.
10.87 [Machine] What is not subject to zakat from what is taken from the sea, such as amber and others?
[Machine] He said, "There is no Zakat (mandatory alms) for amber. It is only something that the sea hides." Abu Al-Husain Ibn Al-Fadl Al-Qattan informed us that Abdullah Ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Ya'qub Ibn Sufyan narrated to us, Al-Humaidi and Ibn Qa'nab narrated to us, Sa'id said, They narrated to us from Sufyan except that he mentioned it but he said, "I heard Ibn Abbas saying: Amber is not a treasure. It is only something that the sea hides." Ibn Juraij narrated it from Amr Ibn Dinar.
[Machine] Is there zakat on amber? Then he mentioned the rest, and Ibn Abbas commented on it in this narration and stated that there is no zakat on it in the first narration, so the definitive ruling is more accurate, and Allah knows best.
10.88 [Machine] Zakat al-Tijarah - The Qur'anic Verse commanding to spend from the lawful earnings (Surah Al-Baqarah: 267)
[Machine] "From Mujahid in his statement: {Spend from the good things which you have earned} [Al-Baqarah 267]. He said, "Trade", {and from what We have produced for you from the earth} [Al-Baqarah 267]. He said, "Date palm."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to order us to pay the sadaqah (zakat) on what we prepared for trade. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1562)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Their charity is in camels, their charity is in sheep, and their charity is in cows."
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "In camels, their giving sadaqah (charity) is from their meat and milk. In sheep, their giving sadaqah is from their wool. And whoever accumulates dinars, dirhams, gold, or silver and does not count it for others nor spend it in the way of Allah, it will be a treasure he will be burnt with on the day of Judgment." The mention of cows is 7600 and it has been removed from this narration.
[Machine] While I was sitting with Uthman, Abu Dharr came to him and mentioned a hadith. They said, "O Abu Dharr, tell us about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'In camels, their truthfulness is in their humps, in sheep, their truthfulness is in their wool, in cows, their truthfulness is in their milk, and in goats, their truthfulness is in their saliva.' He said it with a ز."
[Machine] Omar, don't you pay your Zakat, O Himaas? So I said, O Amir al-Mu'minin, I have nothing except what is on my back, and I am in debt. He said, "That is wealth, so pay it." I said, "So I placed it in front of him." He considered it and I found that Zakat was due on it, so he took the Zakat from it. The wording of the hadith is from Sufyan and the hadith of Ja'far ibn Awon is summarized. He said, Himaas used to sell clothes and blankets. Omar said to him, "Pay your Zakat." He said, "I only have blankets and clothes." He said, "Assess it and pay its Zakat: 7604." And Abu Zakaria and others informed us, Abu al-Abbas informed, al-Rabi' informed, al-Shafi'i informed, Sufyan informed, Ibn Ajlan narrated from Abu al-Zinad, from Abu Amr ibn Himaas, from his father, with a similar narration according to his first narration from Sufyan.
[Machine] The meaning of his statement "If it is valid, there is no zakat on goods" means that if trade is not intended with it.
