10. Zakāh (Prescribed Charity)
[Machine] We entered upon Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, and she said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me and saw in my hand a necklace made of leaves. He said, 'What is this, O Aisha?' I replied, 'I made them to beautify myself for you, O Messenger of Allah.' He asked, 'Do you pay their zakat?' I said, 'No, or whatever Allah wills.' He said, 'It is enough for you to be saved from the Fire, O Aisha.' Abu Bakr ibn al-Harith al-Faqih informed us that Ali ibn Umar al-Hafiz narrated to him, who narrated from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abdul Aziz, who narrated from Muhammad ibn Harun Abu Naseet, who narrated from Amr ibn al-Rabi ibn Tariq, who mentioned the same hadith except he said, 'leaf necklaces.' Ali ibn Umar said, 'Muhammad ibn Ata reported to me.' The scholar said, 'He is unknown. The sheikh is Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Ata, and he is well-known.'"
A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and she was accompanied by her daughter who wore two heavy gold bangles in her hands. He said to her: Do you pay zakat on them? She said: No. He then said: Are you pleased that Allah may put two bangles of fire on your hands? Thereupon she took them off and placed them before the Prophet ﷺ saying: They are for Allah and His Apostle. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1563)
[Machine] I used to wear garments made of gold, so I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, is this considered a treasure?" He replied, "It is not considered a treasure until you pay its zakat (obligatory charity), and once you do, then it is purified. Abu Ali Ar-Rudhbary informed us that Muhammad bin Bakr narrated to us, who informed us from Abu Dawood, who informed us from Muhammad bin Isa, who informed us from Attab, who mentioned it. And this is a narration that can be attributed solely to Thabit bin Ajlan. And Allah knows best.
