10. Zakāh (Prescribed Charity)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The matter of a person will continue until he meets Allah, and there is not a single spot on his face that is devoid of flesh."
He who begs the riches of others to increase his own is asking only for live coals, so let him ask a little or much. (Using translation from Muslim 1041)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not insist on asking so much, for by Allah, no one among you asks me anything that causes me to give something from myself while I dislike it, except that he will be blessed in it." This is the wording of the hadith of Sufyan.
Hakim bin Hizam said, "(Once) I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ (for something) and he gave it to me. Again I asked and he gave (it to me). Again I asked and he gave (it to me). And then he said, "O Hakim! This property is like a sweet fresh fruit; whoever takes it without greediness, he is blessed in it, and whoever takes it with greediness, he is not blessed in it, and he is like a person who eats but is never satisfied; and the upper (giving) hand is better than the lower (receiving) hand." Hakim added, "I said to Messenger of Allah ﷺ , 'By Him (Allah) Who sent you with the Truth, I shall never accept anything from anybody after you, till I leave this world.' " Then Abu Bakr (during his caliphate) called Hakim to give him his share from the war booty (like the other companions of the Prophet ﷺ ), he refused to accept anything. Then ʿUmar (during his caliphate) called him to give him his share but he refused. On that ʿUmar said, "O Muslims! I would like you to witness that I offered Hakim his share from this booty and he refused to take it." So Hakim never took anything from anybody after the Prophet ﷺ till he died. (Using translation from Bukhārī 1472)
We, nine, eight or seven men, were in the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said: Why don't you pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah? -while we had recently pledged allegiance. So we said: Messenger of Allah, we have already pledged allegiance to you. He again said: Why don't you pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah? And we said: Messenger of Allah, we have already pledged allegiance to you. He again said: Why don't you pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah? We stretched our hands and said: Messenger of Allah. we have already pledged allegiance to you. Now tell (on what things) should we pledge allegiance to you. He said I (You must pledge allegiance) that you would worship Allah only and would not associate with Him anything, (and observe) five prayers, and obey- (and he said onething in an undertone) -that you would not beg people of anything. (And as a consequence of that) I saw that some of these people did not ask anyone to pick up the whip for them if it fell down. (Using translation from Muslim 1043)
[Machine] Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever does me a favor, I will reciprocate by admitting him into Paradise." Thawban said, "O Messenger of Allah, it is me!" He ﷺ replied, "Do not ask people for anything." Thawban said, "Sometimes my whip falls while I am on my camel, and I cannot retrieve it until someone comes down and gives it to me." This hadith was narrated by Abu Al-'Aliyah, from Thawban.
