10. Zakāh (Prescribed Charity)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ enjoined giving a Sa' of dates or a Sa' of barley as charity in Ramadan, on every free Muslim, male or female, young or old, slave or free. The people then began to give a half Sa' of wheat as charity. Ibn 'Umar used to give dates, and the people of Madinah used to give barley. Ibn 'Umar used to give it when the people sat to wait for the Iftar during Ramadan, a day or two before it. He used to give to both the young and the old members of his family, until he started giving it on behalf of my two sons, meaning An-Nafi' and Ibn Umar.
[Machine] About Zaid ibn Aslam, he mentioned in the narration that we used to give Zakat al-Fitr during the time of the Prophet ﷺ. He mentioned it with his chain of narration: He informed us Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz, who informed us Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ya'qub, who informed us Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Al-Farrah. Qabeesah ibn Uqbah narrated it to Sufyan, who mentioned it with its chain of narration, and its meaning is included in this addition, without mentioning raisins.
[Machine] People used to give out Zakat al-Fitr during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as a saa' (a unit of measurement) of barley, dates, salt, or raisins.
