[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said regarding the zakat al-fitr: Give a saa' (a measurement unit) of wheat or barley for every male or female, young or old, free or slave. As for the rich, Allah purifies them through it, and as for the poor, He gives them more than what they receive. Sulaiman ibn Dawood al-Atki narrated from Hammad, who said that the Prophet, ﷺ , mentioned in the hadith "young and old, rich or poor" except that Abdullah ibn Tha'labah or Tha'labah ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Suayr mentioned it, and Sulaiman ibn Harb narrated from Hammad, who narrated from Tha'labah ibn Abi Suayr, who narrated from his father, and he mentioned both the rich and the poor in his text. He also mentioned in his text, "Give a saa' of wheat or barley for every person."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي صَدَقَةِ الْفِطْرِ أَدُّوا صَاعًا مِنْ قَمْحٍ أَوْ بُرٍّ عَلَى كُلِّ ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنْثَى أَوْ صَغِيرٍ أَوْ كَبِيرٍ حُرٍّ أَوْ مَمْلُوكٍ فَأَمَّا الْغَنِيُّ فَيُزَكِّيهِ اللهُ وَأَمَّا الْفَقِيرُ فَيَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِ أَكْثَرَ مِمَّا أَعْطَاهُ وَرَوَاهُ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْعَتَكِيُّ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ فَقَالَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ صَغِيرًا وَكَبِيرًا غَنِيًّا أَوْ فَقِيرًا إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ ثَعْلَبَةَ أَوْ ثَعْلَبَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي صُعَيْرٍ وَقَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي صُعَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَذَكَرَ فِي مَتْنِهِ الْغَنِيَّ وَالْفَقِيرَ وَقَالَ فِي مَتْنِهِ أَيْضًا أَدُّوا صَاعًا مِنْ قَمْحٍ أَوْ قَالَ بُرٍّ عَنْ كُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ  

[Machine] Zakat al-Fitr is mandatory upon every free Muslim, male or female, young or old, poor or rich. The amount is one saa' of dates or half a saa' of wheat. Ma'mar reported to me that Al-Zuhri used to present it to the Prophet ﷺ and he mentioned from 'Ata' that he said, "Whoever takes from the Zakat al-Fitr should deliver it for themselves, and likewise for Al-Hasan." Abu Al-A'la and Al-Sha'bi also said the same.  

كَانَتْ زَكَاةُ الْفِطْرِ عَلَى كُلِّ حُرٍّ وَعَبْدٍ ذَكَرٍ وَأُنْثَى صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ فَقِيرٍ وَغَنِيٍّ صَاعٌ مِنْ تَمْرٍ أَوْ نِصْفُ صَاعٍ مِنْ قَمْحٍ قَالَ مَعْمَرٌ وَبَلَغَنِي أَنَّ الزُّهْرِيَّ كَانَ يَرْفَعُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَيَذْكُرُ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ الَّذِي يَأْخُذُ مِنْ زَكَاةِ الْفِطْرِ يُؤَدِّي عَنْ نَفْسِهِ وَكَذَلِكَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ وَكَذَلِكَ قَالَ أَبُو الْعَالِيَةِ وَالشَّعْبِيُّ
