10. Zakāh (Prescribed Charity)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "The likeness of the hypocrite and the miser is like that of two men who have two gardens or two fields of iron from under their breasts until their throats. When the hypocrite intends to spend, his armor tightens and it tears his sides until it grasps his neck or his collarbone. And when the miser intends to spend, it contracts upon him and its every ring binds its place until it grasps his neck or his collarbone." The Prophet ﷺ said, "It expands it but it does not become spacious even once. It was narrated from Abu Abdullah Al-Haafiz, Abu Zakariyya ibn Abi Ishaq, and others who said that Abu Al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated from Ar-Rabi' ibn Sulayman who narrated from Ash-Shafi'i who narrated from Sufyan ibn Uyaynah who mentioned it with a similar chain of narrators except that he said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'It expands it but it does not become spacious even once.'" Sufyan ibn Uyaynah also narrated from Ibn Juraij from Al-Hasan ibn Muslim from Tawus from Abu Hurairah who narrated from the Prophet ﷺ a similar hadith except that he said, "It expands it but it does not become spacious."
[Machine] To me, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded you to spend and sacrifice such and such, and do not count, for Allah will count against you, and do not feel too secure, for Allah will expose it to you.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ came and she said, "O Prophet of Allah, I have nothing except what Zubair brings to me. Is it wrong for me to keep some of it for myself?" He said, "Keep whatever you can and do not be extravagant, for Allah will bless it for you." This hadith is narrated in Sahih Bukhari by Muhammad ibn Abdul Rahim from Hujjaj, and narrated in Sahih Muslim by Muhammad ibn Hatim and others from Hujjaj.
[Machine] And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, Allah said to me, 'Spend, I will spend on you.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is not a day that dawns upon the servants except that two angels descend. One of them says, 'O Allah, give to the one who spends, replacing their wealth,' and the other says, 'O Allah, give to the one who withholds, causing their wealth to perish.'"
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No charity ever decreases wealth; rather, Allah increases it through forgiveness. And no one humbles themselves for the sake of Allah, except that Allah exalts them."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ preached and said: Abstain from avarice, for those who had been before you were annihilated due to avarice. It (avarice) commanded them to show niggardliness; it commanded them to cut off their relationship with their nearest relatives, so they cut off. It commanded them to show profligacy, so they showed it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1698)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A man does not give anything from charity until he removes seventy devils from his beard."
