10. Zakāh (Prescribed Charity) (6/13)
[Machine] God Almighty said, "And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion." [Al-Bayyinah: 5]
[Machine] The Muslims have continued to behave on earth and exploit it after the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They also pay zakat from what they have obtained from it. So we see this land in that way. The discussion about the blackness of Iraq is mentioned in the book of jizya.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is not permissible for a Muslim to be burdened with a jizyah (tribute) and a tenth (tax), for this is a false hadith with no authentic chain of narration, and Yahya ibn Anbasah has been accused of fabricating it." Abu Sa'd said, "Abu Ahmad ibn 'Adi narrated it only through Abu Hanifa from Hammad from Ibrahim, from his statement."
10.61 [Machine] The dhimmi pays the kharaaj instead of the jizyah and it is dropped from him like the jizyah on the heads.
[Machine] "Some passages from the traditions of our Prophet ﷺ regarding the rights of non-Muslim citizens: They are not required to pay any tax on the money they possess, their servants, their homes, their lands, or their livestock, except for a charitable contribution."
10.62 [Machine] What is mentioned in His saying, may He be exalted: "{And give its rightful due on the day of its harvest}" [Al-An'am: 141]
[Machine] In His saying, "And give its due on the day of its harvest" [Surah Al-An'am 141], Al-Ushr (one-tenth) is mentioned, as well as half of Al-Ushr.
[Machine] Zakat is both obligatory and restricted to specific categories in Islam.
[Machine] "Regarding his father's statement in the verse 'And give its due on the day of its harvest' [Al-An'am 141], he said, 'Zakat (charity)'."
The Prophet ﷺ permitted the people who provided the pilgrims with water to stay at Mecca during the nights of Mina. (Using translation from Bukhārī 1743)
[Machine] "In His saying, 'And give him his due on the day of his harvest.' [Surah Al-Anaam: 141] He said, they used to give something to whoever came to them except for charity, except that Hafs did not say anything except for charity."
[Machine] About Ataa, Allah says: "And give His due on the day of harvesting." (Surah Al-An'am, 141) He said, whoever comes to you and asks on that day, give him handfuls of his harvest, and it is not the obligation of Zakah.
[Machine] From Mujahid, in his saying, "And give its due [share] on the day of its harvest" [Al-An'am 141], he said: during planting, you take a handful like this and he pointed with the tips of his fingers as if he was taking something with them, and during threshing, you take a handful like this and he pointed with his palm as if he was grasping something, and he said: "Take the handful." He said: "Leave them to follow the traces of the threshing floor." And a group went on to say that it was abrogated by the obligatory Zakat.
[Machine] Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz, Abu Bakr, and Abu Saeed told us, they said: Abu Al-Abbas narrated to us, he said: Al-Hasan ibn Ali narrated to us, he said: Yahya narrated to us, he said: Israel narrated to us, from Mughira, from Ibrahim, regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And give its due on the day of its harvest." (Quran 6:141). He said: This verse was abrogated by the verse of Zakat.
[Machine] "Not to give charity, as mentioned in the first book of Zakat, and with Allah's guidance, all the evidences in this context have passed."
10.63 [Machine] What is stated in the prohibition of harvesting and grafting at night.
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade working with ropes at night and harvesting at night. Ja'far said, "I see it is because of the poor." And likewise.
10.64 [Machine] No one will be destroyed except the ones whom Allah wants to destroy.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say that while a man was in a valley, he heard thunder in a cloud and heard it say, "Water the garden of so-and-so with your name." So, that cloud came to a barren land and poured out its water. Then, it came to a valley full of cracks, and it reached a crack and absorbed the water. The man followed the cloud until it came to a standing man in a garden, watering it. The man said, "O servant of Allah, what is your name?" He said, "Why do you ask?" The man said, "I heard in a cloud that its water should water the garden of so-and-so with your name. What do you do with it when you cultivate it?" He said, "When you said that, I make it into three parts. I take one-third for me and my family, and I give one-third in charity, and I keep one-third for the poor, the beggars, and the travelers."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no charity in anything less than five awqia, and there is no charity in anything less than five ذَوْد." Sufyan said, "The awqiya is forty dirhams." Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, narrating from Abu Bakr ibn Ishaq, who reported from Bishr ibn Musa, who reported from al-Humaydi, who reported from Sufyan. He said, "I asked Amr ibn Yahya ibn Amarah ibn Abi Hassan al-Mazini about his father, and he mentioned him in similar words, adding, 'There is no charity in anything less than five oosuq,' but he did not mention the statement of Sufyan."
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No Zakat is imposed on less than five Awsuq of dates; no Zakat is imposed on less than five Awaq of silver, and no Zakat is imposed on less than five camels." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1459)
[Machine] He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "There is no less than five dates from dates that are considered charity, and there is no less than five dirhams from coins that are considered charity, and there is no less than five camels' saddles of raisins that are considered charity." Abu Usamah confirmed this and said, "Yes, Abu Salih informed us that my grandfather narrated to us that Ahmad ibn Salamah said, 'Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Yahya said, 'These narrations are preserved from Muhammad ibn Abdur-Rahman.' And the hadiths were narrated from him by three individuals: Abu Sa'eed, his father, Yahya ibn Umarah, and Abbad ibn Tamim."
10.67 [Machine] Interpretation of the Eclipse
[Machine] I asked Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , how much was the dowry of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? She said, "His dowry for his wives was twelve uqiyyah and a nash." She asked, "Do you know what the nash is?" I said, "No." She said, "Half of an uqiyyah, which is five hundred dirhams. So, this was the dowry of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for his wives."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There is no charity in an amount less than two hundred dirhams."
10.68 [Machine] The obligation amount in paper when it reaches a threshold.
[Machine] Abu Bakr wrote this book when he went to Bahrain. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. These are the obligatory acts of charity that Allah has imposed upon the Muslims, which Allah commanded through His Messenger ﷺ . So whoever asks for them from the Muslims, let him give them, and whoever asks for more than them, let him not give. And he mentioned the hadith until the end, and in it is the quarter of the tenth (of wealth) in ar-Riqqa. So if there is no wealth except ninety and one hundred, then there is no charity in it unless Allah wills it.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿI have relieved you of zakah on horses and slaves, so give zakah on silver: for every forty dirhams, one dirham. There is no zakah on one hundred and ninety, but if it reaches two hundred, then five dirhams are due (in zakah).ʿ (Using translation from Aḥmad 711)

[Machine] "From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ he said: Give a quarter of one-tenth of every forty dirhams. However, you do not owe anything until it reaches two hundred dirhams. When it reaches two hundred dirhams, in it there are five dirhams, so whatever exceeds that is considered accordingly."

And they would not consider zakat on any fruit except for grapes when they reach five uqiyyah according to the measurement of the Prophet ﷺ. And they would consider charity in every half a dinar of gold or silver or dates or grains or grapes, whether it exceeds or is less or is the same, but they would not consider charity in a half walking animal of camels, cows, and sheep. And we were informed by Ibrahim al-Nakhai that he said, 'Whatever exceeds two hundred is to be calculated.'"

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him, when he was sent to Yemen, not to take anything from a surplus. If the paper is two hundred dirhams, he takes five dirhams from it, and he does not take anything from what exceeds it until it reaches forty dirhams, then he takes one dirham from it. Abu Bakr ibn al-Harith al-Faqih informed us that Ali ibn Umar al-Hafiz said to me after narrating this hadith, "Minhal ibn al-Jarrah metaphorically narrated it, and he is Abu al-Atuf and his name is al-Jarrah ibn Minhal. Ibn Ishaq used to mix up his name when narrating from him, and Obadah ibn Nusayy did not hear from Muadh." The sheikh said, "If the hadith is sound, we would have accepted it without opposing it, except that its chain of narration is very weak, and Allah knows best."

10.71 [Machine] What a person is not forbidden from giving charity from the evil of his wealth
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ prohibited two types of dates, the dates known as Juhroor and Hubayq, and there were some people who would collect the bad fruits and then take them out as charity. So they were forbidden from two types of dates. It was revealed: "And do not give away (or spend) that which is evil to spend." [Al-Baqarah 267] This narration was attributed to Abu Al-Walid and it was transmitted by Muslim ibn Ibrahim and Muhammad ibn Kathir from Sulaiman ibn Kathir.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded for charity, and a man from this tribe came with some trinkets. Sufyan, may Allah be pleased with him, said it was a kind of cloth. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Who brought this?" and no one would bring anything without being attributed to the one who brought it. Then the verse was revealed, "And do not give the khabith (bad things) which you yourselves would not accept in charity" [Al-Baqarah 2:267]. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited the use of Jura'ur and Habbayq in charity. Az-Zuhri said, "They were two colors of dates from Al-Madinah, and the same applied to them."
[Machine] The Ansar used to give less than the required amount of dates in their zakat. Then Allah revealed the verse:
"O you who have believed, spend from the good things which you have earned and from that which We have produced for you from the earth. And do not aim toward the defective therefrom, spending [from that] while you would not take it [yourself] except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy." (Quran 2:267)
The word "defective" in this verse refers to the inferior dates. If someone owes you something and they give you something less, they have reduced your right. But if you accept it, then it is considered as closing your eyes to it.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the truthful one comes to you, do not let him leave except with your consent." Al-Shafi'i said, "By Allah, I know that they should fulfill his requests obediently and not refuse him with regards to giving him from their wealth what is not upon them. This is how he should command them and command the truthful one." And this is what Al-Shafi'i said, may Allah have mercy on him, and it is likely that it is not mentioned in the narration of Abdur Rahman ibn Hilal al-Abssi from the addition.
Jabir bin ‘Abdallah told of some people, meaning nomadic Arabs, who came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said Collectors of zakat come to us and act unjustly. He said please those who collect the sadaqah from you. They asked Even if they wrong us, Messenger of Allah? He replied Please those who collect sadaqah from you. The version of ‘Uthman adds “Even if you are wronged”. Abu Kamil said in this version “Jarir said No collector of zakat returned from me since I heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but he was pleased with me.” (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1589)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If a person comes to you seeking charity, then give him your charity. But if he transgresses against you, then turn away from him and do not curse him. Say, 'O Allah, I seek reward from You for what he has taken from me.' This is an indication that he saw the virtue of patience in dealing with their transgressions. Similarly, in a narration from Jabir ibn Atik, the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Keep away from them and what they seek. If they act justly, then it is for their own souls, and if they act unjustly, then it is upon them.' This has been mentioned previously in the chapter of voluntary acts of charity being given to governors. Many narrations have been reported from the Prophet ﷺ about the virtue of being patient towards the oppression of rulers, and this is understood to mean that he was commanded to be patient when he knew that there was no way to seek help and that those in authority cannot be overthrown by one's own hands. So if it is possible to repel their transgression or if one hopes for relief..."

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was in her house with some of his companions when a man came and asked, "O Messenger of Allah, how much charity should I give from dates?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ answered, "This much and that much." The man then said, "So-and-so wronged me and took more from me, increasing it by a was." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What will you do when someone who wrongs you goes even further in wronging you?" This sparked a discussion among the people, and the conversation continued until a man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what if a man is absent from you, with his camels, livestock, and crops, but he still pays his zakat, and then the right of someone is taken from his wealth. What should he do while he is absent from you?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever pays his zakat willingly to seek the pleasure of Allah and the Hereafter and does not withhold anything from his wealth, and he establishes prayer, then the right of someone is taken from his wealth, he should take his weapon and fight. If he is killed in battle, he will be a martyr."

10.73 [Machine] Zakat of Gold
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There is no person who owns gold or silver and does not give its due except that on the Day of Judgment, plates of fire will be prepared for him. Then, they will be heated in the fire of Hell and used to brand his sides, forehead, and back. Whenever they cool down, they will be reheated and used on him again. This punishment will continue for a day that is equivalent to fifty thousand years, until the matters between servants are concluded and he can see his path, either leading to Paradise or leading to the Hellfire."

[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ : "Bring to me one-quarter of the wealth tax (Zakat) from every forty dirhams. However, no obligation is placed upon you until you possess two hundred dirhams. When you possess two hundred dirhams and a year passes over it, then you should give five dirhams. No obligation is placed upon you until you possess twenty dinars. When you possess twenty dinars and a year passes over it, then you should give half a dinar. Whatever increases beyond this, its calculation is upon that (specific amount)." He said, "I do not know whether he said, 'according to that' or 'raised it to the Prophet ﷺ except that Jarir reported from the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ that there is no obligatory zakat upon wealth until a year passes over it." This is the wording of the hadith of Bahri bin Nasr. And the additional part in its chain of narrators is from Ibn Wahb, from Al-Harith bin Nabhan, from Al-Hasan bin Umarah, from Abu Ishaq.

[Machine] We entered upon Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, and she said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me and saw in my hand a necklace made of leaves. He said, 'What is this, O Aisha?' I replied, 'I made them to beautify myself for you, O Messenger of Allah.' He asked, 'Do you pay their zakat?' I said, 'No, or whatever Allah wills.' He said, 'It is enough for you to be saved from the Fire, O Aisha.' Abu Bakr ibn al-Harith al-Faqih informed us that Ali ibn Umar al-Hafiz narrated to him, who narrated from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abdul Aziz, who narrated from Muhammad ibn Harun Abu Naseet, who narrated from Amr ibn al-Rabi ibn Tariq, who mentioned the same hadith except he said, 'leaf necklaces.' Ali ibn Umar said, 'Muhammad ibn Ata reported to me.' The scholar said, 'He is unknown. The sheikh is Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Ata, and he is well-known.'"

A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and she was accompanied by her daughter who wore two heavy gold bangles in her hands. He said to her: Do you pay zakat on them? She said: No. He then said: Are you pleased that Allah may put two bangles of fire on your hands? Thereupon she took them off and placed them before the Prophet ﷺ saying: They are for Allah and His Apostle. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1563)
